The Forgotten Chieftain's Wife Chapter 29
Durotan lost track of how many hours he was imprisoned in the cages alongside the captive humans. Many of them looked at him in repulsed fear not knowing why he was there and others even pleading with him to help them. Even if Durotan wanted to he can't do anything, lacking the suitable means to take proper action. The chains binding him kept him anchored and there's no doubt in his mind the guards would stop him before he could get very far.
Durotan knew what his fate is going to be when this night is over. It had already been decided and he's not afraid of the inevitable death that awaits him. Only remorseful that he'll never be able to lead the Frostwolves to safety or see his family again. To embrace Lyanna close to the heart in his arms nor bear witness Go'el grow into the strong, confident, and brave Chieftain he knows the boy will one day become in his stead.
It'll be a long and difficult road with many hurdles to overcome that will be beset onto him.
The one consolation Durotan has is that at the very least Go'el won't be experiencing whatever obstacles the future has in store for him alone. His mother will always be there beside him where he cannot. Durotan has no doubt his wife will make sure the boy doesn't grow up overhasty, and have a strong hand a clear head that is needed to reestablish the true ways of the Orc to their kind instead of the tainted existence Gul'dan would rather have them all lead through disarray and confusion.
Thoughts trailing back to Lyanna, his precious wife and most priceless treasure he'd ever received, Durotan can feel chill fingers clutch at his heart as he tries not to think about what the other Orc's might do to her once his protection is gone. Leaving the path ahead fraught with infinite danger.
Durotan's contemplations are interrupted. He can hear loud footsteps approaching closer and closer as they steadily circle around his prison.
The Orcs standing guard over Durotan recognize the intruder, moving to intercept.
Orgrim says nothing, simply raising Doomhammer and swiftly bringing it down onto both guards' heads. Neither of them will rise again.
In casual impassiveness, Durotan said "Now you are enemies with all sides."
"I'll tell them it was you," said Orgrim, stepping into the cage and undoing the chains and shackles that bind Durotan in place.
Feigning stiffness and fatigue, pain rippling through his vast muscles Durotan permits Orgrim to assist him in a standing position.
Without any warning, Durotan strikes savagely at Orgrim's chest.
Orgrim does nothing in retaliation as he drops to the ground. The disgraced warrior bows his head in submission and acceptance of the harsh reprimand.
"What happened," demands Durotan.
"I am sorry, Durotan," whispered Orgrim, confessing everything to his chieftain, beyond remorseful on the magnitude behind the repercussions his shameful actions have unintentionally wrought. "I did not see how we could side with the humans against our own kind. I was wrong. Gul 'dan's Fel magic is destroying us."
There's a pause as Durotan seriously considers his fallen confidante. Orgrim sits there silently, waiting for Durotan's decision.
Finally, Durotan extends a hand to him, accepting Orgrim's genuine and sincere regretful demeanor. Having found it adequate Orgrim's loyalty is once more reaffirmed.
"Where is Lyanna," asked Durotan.
"Safe. I have her hidden in a secure location. She's there waiting for you. Draka has the baby in a separate spot. Lyanna will reunite with them and depart for the human city," reports Orgrim. "But the rest…"
There's no need for further explanation. The implications hinting at what has become of the Frostwolves are more than apparent. It'll be a miracle if any of them managed to survive the purge.
Durotan shuts his eyes, exhaling his grief.
Unfortunately, neither has the benefit of time on their side.
"Take me to Lyanna," ordered Durotan, quelling the pain, grief, and rage mixing in his heart.
Orgrim complies.
It won't take long before others soon realize that Durotan is loose and send out patrols to search for him. This needs to be done quickly before any chance of discovery.
Lyanna fidgets anxiously in her hiding spot with an arrow knocked on her bow at the ready. The longer Orgrim is away the more nervous and uneasy she becomes. She's about ready to break cover and go looking for Durotan just as she intended the first time when she hears noises emerging from the nearby brush.
Aiming in that direction, eyes blazing fiercely, Lyanna snarled "Show yourself or risk your life."
Shoving aside some branches, stepping out of the shadows, Orgrim said "It's me, Lyanna."
Easing tension on the bow, Lyanna said "Where is Durotan?"
"Here, Lyanna," announced Durotan, stepping into the moonlight.
The bow and arrow slips from her fingers, plummeting into the dirt. Lyanna runs straight into Durotan's open arms. He holds her tightly close to his chest. Lyanna wraps her arms tightly around his neck, never wanting to let go.
Burying her face into his neck, Lyanna murmured "I thought you were dead."
"Not yet," said Durotan.
"The others…I couldn't save them. I couldn't protect any of them," said Lyanna, utterly crushed, destroyed inside.
"None of us could, but we cannot linger too long on the past. Doing so would lead to our demise," said Durotan, solemnly.
Composing herself, Lyanna said "You're right. We shouldn't linger here. Draka has Go'el close to her. Our wolves are there too. If we leave now and ride the wolves without stopping, we can get to Stormwind before or around sunset."
Lyanna tugs on Durotan's hand to pull him away but he refuses to move, a blank expression covering his face.
"What's wrong," asked Lyanna, worriedly.
Quietly, Durotan said "I'm not coming with you."
No.
No, this can't be.
Durotan didn't come to leave with her.
He came to say goodbye.
"No," said Lyanna, brokenly.
Placing his big hands on her shoulders, barely holding himself together by the thinnest thread, struggling to justify his choice, Durotan said "There is no other way. Gul'dan must be stopped. No one else from the Horde will take him on in a fight. It must be me."
Mak'gora.
A sickening shiver overtook Lyanna upon reaching this realization.
"You can't do it. Gul'dan will kill you," exclaimed Lyanna, face draining of all color.
Chuckling, Durotan jested "Do you have such little faith in me?"
"Never," said Lyanna, weakly. "But please don't go back. Leave with us. Don't leave Go'el without his father."
"He will not be without me. You will tell him stories. And through those tales, it'll be similar as if I am there with him. Our son will be a bridge of peace between Orcs and Humans. That will be his destiny," proclaimed Durotan, confidently.
Exhaling, Lyanna said "I wish we had more time."
"As do I," concurred Durotan.
"I can't do this without you," said Lyanna, shakily.
Bringing his forehead down to touch hers, comforting her as best he possibly can, Durotan said "The one thing I regret is that you can't be standing by my side when Gul'dan and I fight."
"Oh, Durotan," breathed Lyanna, staring directly into his eyes.
.
I will always be with you
Makes no difference where your road takes you to
Even if we're apart
Now we're joined at the heart
Though our moment may be gone you and I will still live on
.
Durotan cups the back of her head, eyes and touch filled to brimming with more warmth and love than they ever had before.
.
I will always be with you
I'll be by your side whatever you do
Other memories may fade
But the ones that we made are eternal as a star
Now I'm part of who you are
.
Outside of the Frostwolf Clan other Orc's may have viewed their union as an insult to their kind and way of life, but to them nothing could've been purer.
Go'el is proof of that.
Testament to their bond.
.
And I'll be there with you in the sound of your laughter
I'll be in the tears you cry
'Cause the way you and I have touched one another
Doesn't end with a goodbye
I will always be with you
Like a guardian spirit
Constant and true
When you're lost in the night
And you can't see the light
My love will see you through.
.
Durotan raises Lyanna's chin so their eyes lock.
.
I will always be there.
.
Lyanna lays her head over Durotan's heart.
.
You have me there.
.
Durotan wraps his hand over hers, engulfing Lyanna's tiny hand in his massive palm.
.
I will always be with you.
.
It's time for Lyanna to depart.
"I love you," choked Lyanna, tears trickling down from her eyes, over her cheeks.
Sullenly, Durotan said "And I love you."
Durotan and Lyanna share one last love-filled kiss together, Orgrim averting his gaze, guilt-ridden that he's the cause of their heartbreak.
Pulling back from his beloved with the greatest reluctance, stroking her cheek gently with his thumb, Durotan said "Lyanna, go home. Do not look back."
"Live, Durotan. Live and come back to us," begged Lyanna.
Pressing a soft kiss to her forehead, Durotan said "Go."
Bringing a hand to her lips to muffle the distraught sobs, Lyanna grabs her bow and arrows and runs off into the darkness.
Durotan watches her leave with a heavy heart. As soon as Lyanna is out of sight, he turns to make his way back into the Horde war camp.
"They wouldn't follow him if they could see what he has become," said Orgrim, assuredly.
Determinedly, eyes hard, Durotan declared "Then I'll show them."

The song sung here is Always Be With You from All Dogs Go To Heaven 2. Thought it would be fitting here. What do you think?
Heads up everyone there's someone on fanfiction you need to seriously watch out for. Early a couple of days ago after I woke up I was checking my email and I saw I had a new guest review on my A Dog's Purpose Is Strange Magic 2 sequel. I took a look at it and got a very big shock. Some random person I've never spoken to before on here or anywhere else in my life was basically threatening me. Intimidating and practically ordering me to write a threatening letter to someone on their behalf, telling to stay off of for life or else they and everyone else close to them would be killed, disgustingly telling them to kill themselves. And at the bottom of the message this crazy person wasn't done. Warning me that if I don't send the letter then they would kill me and for confirmation to email them to make absolutely sure I complied with their demands. Of course I did nothing of the sort. Instead of doing what they wanted I reported them to the website, sent copies of this deplorable guest review message to police officer cousins of mine so they could have it on file, and I went to a nearby police station and reported it.
When I spoke to the police officers and they checked everything on the message they saw, that while the address and names of business were accurate the people and their names were not. They agree it was more than likely a scam because of the email address on the bottom in order to perhaps get access to personal information or potentially hack my computer. Despite that I'm still very happy they took it seriously as I showed and told them everything. All the same I'm still very happy that I brought this to the attention of law enforcement. Even though the entire thing might be fake I'm still very happy to have brought this to the attention of those who can do something about it if it was legit in someway. This may have been a scam, but it's obvious these people are beyond irresponsible if they try to goad people into sending death threats to random strangers just to get access to info.
Be that as it may if this does unfortunately happen to you do not send any messages to the email addresses they put down and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you bring the message to the authorities immediately whether it is legit or not.
Because it's a guest review it might not be visible for a couple of days as it loads if it is sent to you. But when it does you should definitely pressing the report abuse button and send it to the email that leads to the support staff that is available.
Just a heads up to those of you who aren't aware of this yet, Email alerts for this website are now only active if Email opts is enabled in account settings.
I hope you all like this one! I certainly did while writing it for your vast enjoyment! ;D
For those of you just starting out with my stuff there are other works on my profile that may catch your interest. I highly recommend you take a look as soon as the opportunity presents itself to you. Who knows, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you discover.
Stay safe everyone. Especially with all of these crazy natural disasters occurring a lot lately due to global warming and climate change everywhere for sure. I swear it's like they're getting worse and worse all the time and it's like officials are simply just ignoring it or pretending it doesn't exist entirely just to go on with their daily lives. Especially those in multi-million dollar companies that rely on certain elements of our planet that we rely on to naturally keep us safe instead of adapting and finding new safer ways to keep in business. There are so many options out there where they can adapt, but they just refuse to see it because all they care about is money. Climate change is altering so much faster than anyone can really keep track of.
So, in light of all this, it is important to live life to the fullest as much as anyone can.
I know I am. ;) See you guys next time.
