Chapter 65: Battle of the Heavens

After Alexis's duel had finished, it was Blair's time to duel. Her opponent was St. Joan, who eyed the human loftily.

"Humph, this shouldn't take too long."

"Why are you really that bad of a duelist? Don't worry, I'll go easy on you."

The crowd laughed at Blair's comeback, making her opponent seethe in fury.

"Arrogant punk! I'll show you to talk back to your superiors!"

"Yeah? Well, bring it!"

GAME ON!

Blair: 8000

Joan: 8000

"I'll let you go first. You'll need all of the help you can get."

"Gee, thanks. I'll set one monster face down, and one card face down. That ends my turn."

"What a waste! I'll start with my Dunames Dark Witch (1800/1050) in attack mode! Attack her face down!"

The witch created an orb of light in her hands before launching it, revealing it to be a Ryko, which pounced on his attacker before exploding, taking her with him.

"Now I activate my trap card Lightsworn Spiral! Now, every time I have to send cards from the top of my deck thanks to a Lightsworn monster, the top card of your deck gets removed from play."

The fusion spirit scowled, but pocketed the Marshmallon that had been on the top of her deck.

"And one of those cards was my Wulf, so he gets to join the party as well!"

"Don't get too cocky! I'll set one card face down and end my turn."

"Alright then, it's my turn! First, I'll summon Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner (1000/1000) in attack mode! And with her effect, I can discard one card from my hand to special summon a level 4 or lower Lightsworn from my graveyard, like my Jain! Now my monsters, attack!"

"I activate my trap card, Draining Shield! I choose your Wulf!"

Joan: 10,1000

"It doesn't matter, because my other two monsters can still attack!"

Joan: 7300

"Next, I'll activate my Realm of Light Field Spell!"

The stadium around them disappeared, replaced with a beautiful palace surrounded by waterfalls.

"I'll end my turn there, and thanks to my monsters I have to send the top two and three cards from my deck respectively. But that's just fine, because each time a card is sent from my deck to the graveyard, my field spell gains a shine counter. And for every counter it has, all Lightsworn monsters gain 100 attack points (2100-2300) (1800-2000) (1000-1200)."

"I'll admit you have some skill, but not enough! I'll start by discarding my King of the Swamp to add Polymerization from my deck to my hand. Now I'll activate it to fuse my Forgiving Maiden to fusion summon myself, St. Joan (2800/2000)! Next, I'll equip myself with Cestus of Dagala!"

Twin bladed weapons adorned her doppelganger's arms.

"These fashionable weapons give me 500 attack points (2800-3300). Now I'll attack your Lumina!"

The clone flew over towards the spellcaster, slashing her to shreds with her weapons.

Blair: 5900

"And when the monster equipped with Cestus inflicts battle damage to you, I gain the amount that you lost!"

Joan: 9200

"I'll end my turn with one monster in face down defense position. Make your move, if you can."

"Don't count me out just yet! First, I'll tribute my Jain to summon Gragonith, Lightsworn Dragon! And for every Lightsworn in my graveyard, he gains 300 attack points, and I currently have 5 (2000-2200-3700)! Destroy St. Joan!"

The dragon fired a bright white stream of fire at the fusion monster, The copycat tried to block with her new weapons, but was vaporized all the same.

Joan: 8800

"Now Wulf, attack her face down!

The beast pounced, swiping at the mystery monster, only for it to be revealed to be Gellenduo, rendering his attack pointless.

"Fine, I end my turn (ROL: 3) (2300-2400) (3700-3800)."

"Get ready, because I'm done messing around! I'll use my Gellenduo as two tributes to summon Guardian Angel Joan (2800/2000)!"

"Impressive, but my Dragon is still stronger!"

"That doesn't matter, because I activate Smashing Ground! This destroys your monster with the strongest defense, and your Dragon fits the bill!"

Blair gasped in horror as a giant fist came crashing down, obliterating her strongest monster.

"Now my Guardian Angel, destroy her Wulf!"

Blair: 5400

"And when my Guardian Angel destroys a monster in battle, I gain life points equal to its attack points in the graveyard!"

Joan: 10,900

"I end my turn there. Give up, you can't win!"

"Oh yes I can! Since I have at least 4 Lightsworns with different names in my graveyard, I can bring out Judgement Dragon!"

Her life points are too high, I can't afford to only deal chip damage to her, or I'll deck out before I can even get close!"

"I activate my Dragon's effect! By paying 1000 life points, all other cards on the field are destroyed."

Blair: 4400

To her opponent's surprise, Blair's Realm of Light was still standing after the blast hit, though with two fewer orbs shining.

"Surprised? When Realm of Light would be destroyed by a card effect, I can remove two Shine Counters instead. Next, I summon Garoth, Lightsworn Warrior in attack mode (1850-1950/1300) in attack mode! Attack her directly, my monsters!"

Joan: 5950

"I'll end my turn there, and my Judgement Dragon requires me to send the top 4 cards of my deck to the graveyard (ROL: 2) (1950-2050)."

St. Joan was starting to sweat, not expecting such a big hit in one turn.

It's not much, but it'll have to do. If nothing else, I can stall for time.

"I set one card face down and end my turn."

"Scared? I'll summon Ehren, Lightsworn Monk in attack mode (1600-1800/1000) in attack mode! Attack her facedown monster, Ehren!"

The monk charged across the field and kicked the unknown monster, revealing it to be a Nimble Momonga. But to Joan's surprise, her monster turned into a ball of light and returned to her deck.

"Surprised? When Ehren attacks a facedown monster, it gets shuffled into your deck before damage calculation. Sorry, but no life points for you! Which is too bad, because you're going to need them! Garoth, Judgement Dragon, attack her directly!"

Joan: 900

"I'll end my turn there, and thanks to my monsters I have to send 7 cards from the top of my deck to the graveyard (ROL: 4) (2050-2250) (1800-2000)! What's more, since a card was sent from my deck to the graveyard by Ehren's effect, Garoth sends the top two cards from my deck to the graveyard (ROL: 5) (2250-2350) (2000-2100). And since another Lightsworn was sent, I get to draw a card."

Blair was starting to feel confident, knowing that no matter what happened next she won. But her opponent just smirked smugly.

"I pass my turn."

"Did you give up?"

"Actually, I've won."

"What? But I'm about to-"

Blair's thoughts were interrupted when she tried to draw a card, only to hit cold metal. Looking down, she found to her horror that she didn't have any cards left in her deck, which meant…

"Competitor Blair has no cards left to draw! As such, St. Joan is the winner!"

Dejected, Blair deactivated her duel disk and walked back towards the locker room. St. Joan watched her leave, a smug smile on her lips.

"As I said, this didn't take long."
