Chapter 69: Grave Destiny

Alexis slumped over in her seat, despaired by the events that had unfolded. Jaden ran over to her, stopping her from hitting the ground.

"Atticus, he…he…"

"We'll get him back, one way or another."

"What if we can't? What if he's really gone?"

"You can't think like that. He always comes back."

Alexis took a deep breath, and relaxed.

"Thanks, Jay. I needed that."

"Come on, Aster's duel is about to start."

On the duel field, Aster was facing the Gravekeeper's Chief, though he was different from the one Jaden had fought before.

"Nice dress, buddy."

"You dare mock me? You shall pay for your insolence!"

"I doubt that."

GAME ON!

GC: 8000

Aster: 8000

"I'll begin with the field spell Necrovalley! Next, I'll set one card face down and end my turn with Royal Tribute!"

Aster remained stoic as both players sent the monsters in their hands to the graveyard, with two each.

"Is that the best you can do to start? I'll begin by activating the effect of Destiny Hero Malicious in my graveyard! By removing him from play, I can summon another copy from my deck! And since Necrovalley doesn't negate effects activating in the graveyard, it can't do anything to stop me."

The Chief just growled in frustration.

"Next, I'll play the field spell Clock Tower Prison! Now I'll summon Destiny Hero Dread Servant (400/700) in attack mode, and thanks to his effect my Tower gets a counter. I'll set two cards face down and end my turn."

"Is that all? Pathetic! First, I'll flip over Gravekeeper's Spy, and her effect lets me bring Gravekeeper's Assailant (1500/1500) to the field. Next, I'll tribute Gravekeeper's Spy in order to summon myself, the Gravekeeper's Chief (1900/1200)! But thanks to my effect, I can bring her back. Now, I'll attack your Servant!"

The chief created an orb of dark energy and launched it at Dread Servant, blasting it to oblivion. But when the dust settled, the chief noticed something off about Aster's life points.

Aster: 8000

"How didn't you lose any life points? Your monster was in attack mode!"

"It was because of my trap card, Eternal Dread. This added 2 counters to my field spell, and as long as it has 4 counters I don't take any battle damage."

"Humph, lucky draw."

"Oh, but it gets better! See, I wanted you to destroy Dread Servant first."

"Huh? But why?"

"Because when Dread Servant is destroyed, he takes one of my spell or trap cards wit him, and I choose Clock Tower Prison!"

And with that, the clock tower collapsed into rubble on the ground. From the rubble emerged one of the strongest Destiny Heroes, Dreadmaster.

"And when he gets brought out, he brings two of my Destiny Heroes lying in the graveyard with him, like the Dasher and Diamond Dude you made me discard turn 1. And as thanks for bringing them back, they'll happily lend Dreadmaster their attack points (?-4300/?-4300)!"

"Well, he's about to get weaker! Assailant, attack his Diamond Dude!"

The cloaked assassin leapt up, dagger in hand ready to cut down the Diamond cloaked hero, only to be blocked by Dreadmaster's massive fist, sending her back to her chief's side of the field.

"Sorry, but on the turn Dreadmaster is summoned, you can't touch any of his friends, nor do I lose any life points from your attacks. Close, but yet so far."

The Chief looked at his hand, and snarled. Nothing he had could save him.

"I end my turn."

"Sorry, but I'm going to have to cut the fun short. I'll tribute Malicious to summon Destiny Hero Double Dude (1000/1000) in attack mode! Next, I'll remove Malicious from play to summon the last one from my deck (3500-5300). Lastly, I'll activate Dark City! Dreadmaster, attack his chief!"

GC: 4600

"And my Double Dude can attack twice, pluse hs gets 1000 attack points from my city when he attacks a monster with more attack points than him (1000-2000). Take out his spies!"

GC: 3000

"Now Dasher, Diamond Dude, finish him off!"

The chief only had enough time to raise his hands in defense before being knocked over by the attacks, costing him the duel.

GC: 0000

"You can't escape from destiny!"
