Chapter 72: Dark vs Light
After an hour-long wait, it was time for Bastion's duel. His opponent was St. Joan, the same duelist that had defeated Blair. And like with Blair, she wasn't impressed when she saw him approaching her.
"Another human? I'll be sure to defeat you just like I did the last one."
"If I remember correctly, my friend nearly beat you."
"And she wasted her entire deck for nothing. A human could never beat me."
"We'll see, won't we?"
GAME ON!

St. Joan: 8000
"I'll begin with the monster, Malice Doll of Demise (1600/1700) in attack mode! Next, I activate the spell card Ectoplasmer. I'll end my turn with two cards face down and end my turn, which activates Ectoplasmer's effect! By tributing Malice Doll of Demise, you take damage equal to half of its attack points."
The doll's soul rose out of its body, the body dissolving into dust as its spirit rammed into the angelic warrior, making her grunt in annoyance.
St. Joan: 7200
"Is that all you can do? I activate Polymerization, combining Marie the Fallen One and The Forgiving Maiden in order to summon myself! Next, I summon Shining Angel in attack mode! Attack him directly!"
"Please, as if I'd let myself take damage that easily. I activate my trap card, Dimension Wall! Now you take the damage from St. Joan's attack instead of me."
A dimensional rift caught Joan's sword, warping it back to her owner and causing her to grunt in pain.
St. Joan: 4400
Bastion: 6600
"Fine. I set two cards face down and end my turn. And thanks to your Ectoplasmer, I can give you some payback damage!"
Bastion just smirked confidently, not even flinching as the specter of Shining Angel ran through him.
Bastion: 5900
"What was that you were saying about a human never being able to defeat you?"
"Just take your turn!"
"As you wish. First, my Doll returns since it was tributed by the effect of a spell card. Next, I activate Fiend's Sanctuary! But my Metal Fiend Token won't be around for long, because I'm tributing him for Dark Ruler Ha Des!"
"So what? My monster is still stronger."
"Not after I activate Mystic Plasma Zone! This field spell gives all of my dark monsters 500 attack points in exchange for 400 defense points (2450-2950/1600-1200) (1600-2100/1700-1300)!"
"Crap."
Dark Ruler Ha Des, attack her St. Joan!"
"I activate the Gift of the Mystical Elf! Now I gain 300 life points for every monster on the field. There are currently 3, so I gain 900 life points"
"And I activate Bad Reaction to Simochi! Now you lose 900 life points instead."
St. Joan:: 3500
The demonic king took a large gulp of drink before letting loose a torrent of flames from his mouth, which burned the angel to a crisp.
St. Joan: 3350
"Now Malice Doll of Demise, attack her directly!
St. Joan: 1250
"Now I end my turn, and you know what that means!"
St. Joan: 450
St. Joan groaned, knowing nothing in her deck could help her now.
"I set one monster face down and end my turn. Just get it over with."
"Gladly. I'll pass my turn, meaning Ectoplasmer will finish you off!"
St. Joan: 0000
The angelic warrior huffed, leaving without another word. Bastion couldn't help but chuckle.
"What a sore loser."
To everyone's surprise, the next duel was Hassleberry vs Zane. Despite knowing what lay in store for him, Hassleberry made his way to the duel field without fuss.
"I'm impressed. I thought you'd chicken out after seeing what I've done to the others who've opposed me."
"I ain't no chicken! When I receive a declaration of war, I meet the enemy head on!"
"Very well, but don't say I didn't warn you."

Hassleberry: 8000
Zane: 8000
"Since I'm in a good mood, I'll let you go first."
"You'll regret that decision, private! To start, I'll discard Destroyersaurus to get Jurassic World to my hand, which I'll now activate! Next, I summon Black Stego (1200-1500/2000-2300) in attack mode! I'll set two cards face down and end my turn."
"Oh look, you've summoned your cousin. How cute."
Hassleberry growled, his eyes momentarily flashing as his dino DNA kicked in.
"Now let me show you a real play! First, I activate Graceful Charity. Next, I summon Cyberdark Edge (800/800)! And I'll equip him with the Masked Dragon I discarded (800-2200). Now Edge, attack!"
Ha! He must not know about Stego's effect!
"And I know all about your monster's effect, which is why I activate Edge's! By cutting his attack points in half, he can attack you directly!"
"Sam hill!"
The dark machine let out a horrendous screech, pushing Hassleberry back as he tried to brace himself.
Hassleberry: 6900
"I'll end my turn with one card face down."
"Alright, this means war! I'll dismiss Black Stego so I can call in the artillery! Come on out, Dark Driceratops (2400-2700/1500-1800)! Next, I'll special summon Gilasaurus (1400-1700/400-700)! Lastly, I'll activate Fossil Dig to bring back Destroyersaurus (1800-2100/1100-1400)! Driceratops, lead the assault!"
Zane: 7500
"When one of my Cyberdarks would be destroyed by battle while equipped, their hitchhiker takes the hit for them (2200-800).
"I know that, but now there's nothing standing between it and my Destroyersaurus!"
Zane: 6200
"And last but not least, Gilasaurus will bring up the rear!"
Zane: 4500
"Oh yeah, who's the man! I end my turn."
It was just then that Hassleberry noticed Zane was laughing.
"What's so funny?"
"Just the fact that you actually think you have a chance of winning."
"Come again? Maybe I'm missing something, but last I checked I'm winning."
"And like the extinct dinos you use, one small victory makes you think you're the top of the food chain."
"Grr, just take your turn!"
"Gladly. Since you have a monster and I don't, I can bring out Cyber Dragon in attack mode! Destroy Gilasaurus!"
Hassleberry: 6500
"I'll end my turn with two cards face down. Your move."
"Don't get cocky, soldier! I'll start with Card of Demise. This lets me draw until I have five cards. The only downside is that I have to get rid of my entire hand in five turns, but it'll never come to that."
"Plan on losing so soon?"
"Shut up and let me duel! Next, I'll activate Ultra Evolution! Now by giving Destroyersaurus a dishonorable discharge, I get three whole turns of summoning Dinos without having to tribute any of my other ones, so say hello to Black Tyranno (2600-2900/1800-2100)! Now Dark Driceratops, attack his Cyber Dragon!"
"I activate Attack Reflector Unit! By tributing Cyber Dragon, I can call forth Cyber Barrier Dragon (800/2800) in attack mode!"
"Big mistake, because now I can dish out even more damage!"
"Not so fast! Once per turn when Barrier Dragon is in attack mode, I can negate one of your attacks."
"So? Now my Black Tyranno can turn it into scrap metal"
Zane: 2400
"And don't think I'm done just yet, because I activate Spacetime Transcendence! By banishing two dinos from my grave, I can call out another one from my hand whose level is equal to their combined ones. So say adios to Destroyersaurus and Black Stego and say hello to Super Conductor Tyranno (3300/1400)! Since he didn't get a chance to attack this turn, I can tribute Dark Driceratops in order to inflict 1000 points of damage to you!"
"I activate my Fusion Guard trap card. By sending a random fusion monster from my Fusion deck to the graveyard, your effect damage is reduced to zero."
"Nuts. Still, I'm in control of this game! I end my turn."
This made Zane burst into deranged laughter.
"You still don't get it, you've played right into my hands!"
"Come again? Last time I checked, you're the one who let yourself take more damage than you needed by summoning Barrier Dragon in attack mode."
"That's because I wanted to make you think you were winning before ripping that hope right out from under you! First, I activate my trap card Rebirth Judgment! This makes all monsters in the graveyard become Dragon type. Next, I activate Foolish Burial to send Cyberdark Keel to the graveyard. Now I activate Cyberdark Impact!"
"Oh no!"
"Oh yes! Cyberdark Keel, Edge, and Horn combine to create the monster that will be your undoing! Rise forth, Cyberdark Dragon! And with his effect, I'll equip Cyber End Dragon to give him its attack points (1000-5300)! Now I'll attack Black Tyranno!"
Hassleberry: 4500
"You might as well give up, Sergeant! There's not a card in your deck that can stand up to my monster!"
"I won't give up until the last card has been played! That's what Jaden taught me."
"And just like him, you're way in over your head!"
"Don't insult Sarge like that! I draw!"
Yes! Just what I needed!
"I summon Babycerasaurus (500/500) in attack mode!"
"Your army must be desperate for troops to be sending children against me."
"You know what they say, the best things come in small packages. I'll end my turn, but before I do I activate Volcanic Eruption! Since I control Jurassic World during my end phase, I can destroy all cards on the field!"
"What?!"
Just like that, the volcano in the background erupted, sending huge amounts of smoke, ash, and lava raining down onto the field, wiping out every card in play.
"And when Babycerasaurus is destroyed by a card effect, I can special summon a level 4 or lower Dino from my deck, and I can think of none better than Sabersaurus (1900/500)! I'm still in this!"
Zane growled, and drew his card.
"Persistent Pest! I activate Pot of Avarice! By sending the five monsters in my graveyard back into my deck, I can draw 2 cards!"
When he saw what cards he had drawn, he laughed maniacally.
"Something tells me I'm not going to like what happens next."
"You won't, because I activate Polymerization! With it I can combine the three Cyber Dragons in my hand to create Cyber End Dragon (4000/2800)! Wipe out his Sabersaurus!"
Hassleberry: 2400
"I'm not out just yet!"
"Tell that to De-Fusion!"
Hassleberry could only watch eyes wide as the massive fusion monster split back into three.
"Face it general, you just lost the war. Cyber Dragons, finish him off!"
The three serpents opened their mouths and launched three powerful blasts of energy which hit him and sent him flying.
Hassleberry: 0000
When the dust settled, Hassleberry was on his back, unconscious as smoke rose off of him. Zane scoffed, and walked away.
"Pathetic."
