Chapter 12 – I Believe
I believe we can fly up in the sky
One day we may just be able to touch down on a star
Off the road we have to go
The roadless path we shall proceed until the end of our roles
There's no turning back for us 'cause we will never give up

Edward's POV
The next morning since Bella's departure with her father and friends, things have been… different. In some ways. Like… things are normal, but you're the only person who knows that it's beyond normal, similar to how you're a superhero with a secret identity and everyone around you act like nothing unusual has happened or is happening.
Here I am sitting on my bed after getting up, reeling in on the reality that is upon me. That I will continue living my life as a normal guy; going to school, be with family, hang with friends and pursuing my dreams to get into the NFL. The only difference of my life today from before? Bella.
Ever since I started dating Bella, my life feels so different. Every day when I wake up, I look forward to seeing Bella. Calling or texting even. It would've been like this everyday for the rest of my life. Except, Bella's an actress and singer and is well known by the whole world. In other words, she's a celebrity, and I'm not. It means that while I'm stuck doing school and living a life where things are normal, Bella is out in the big world living her life where she is busy with her career and traveling to places for projects she's involve in. She won't be with me here in Forks. Did the last few weeks flew by that fast? Feels like Bella and I have been together for a long time. I guess there's nothing we can do now but go through with this long distance relationship. I sure hope we can pull this off. Only eight months to go until I graduate and hopefully, go wherever Bella goes.
After doing my morning routine and had breakfast, I said goodbye to my folks and drove myself to school. I did what I always do there; meet up with my friends, take in the compliments from classmates about my performance in the game and of course dealing with Mike's bullshit. How things could be different if Bella wasn't a celebrity.
"Dude, are you even there?"
"Huh, what?" I said when someone was snapping his fingers right in my face getting my attention. It was then I noticed that I was standing in the hallways with my friends after second period ended.
"And you guys were making fun of my brain function." Demetri said to them before turning to me. "How many times do I have to keep on going to make sure you don't zone out man?"
"Sorry guys." I said as I straighten my backpack up and secured it over me.
"You okay? You look kind of bummed." Seth said to me.
"Eh, it is a Monday. That means back to school for us which teachers thinks it's okay to kill our mood after the weekend." Ben said with a shrug.
"Yeah, like Mr. Talbot. His class was such bullshit as well as his teaching." Jessica said in disbelief.
"You're just pissed because he confiscated your phone in class for being on Twitter instead of focusing on his lectures." Heidi said, rolling her eyes.
"Someone's gotta keep tabs on Bella." Jessica huffed. At the mention of Bella's name, it made me miss her even more just hearing it.
"And because of your actions, you got my phone confiscated as well when you tried to use mine to continue where you left off and got us both detention." Jane said to Jessica in annoyance causing those two to start bickering.
"Is everything okay, Edward?" Alec asked.
"I'm fine." I said.
"Is it your girlfriend?" Angela asked. I looked up, almost panicking. "Is something going on between you and Isabella?" I resisted the urge to sigh in relief remembering that I told my friends of my girlfriend by Bella's birth name.
"Um, yeah. No, I mean," I took a deep breath and start over. "We're just… struggling on our relationship. Not that it's going bad," I quickly added. "It's just… like I said, it's new to the both of us."
"Things will be alright, Edward." Angela said as she comfort me by rubbing my arm. "You two will learn how to adjust."
"Yeah man, I mean don't you two like text, FaceTime and Instagram all the time?" Seth asked.
"Yeah." I said. At least I'm able to do that… depending on how our schedule fits with one another.
"So when do we get to meet this Isabella? We never got to see her when we hung out over the weekend." Heidi asked.
"Yeah sorry, she said she feels bad to not get a chance to meet you all, but her grandmother wasn't doing well and she wanted to be there." I explained of the excuse. "And it's kind of challenging since she has after school activities."
"She must be that busy huh? Are you sure you're okay being in that kind of relationship?" Alec asked.
The question there reminded me of the conversation I had with Jacob last weekend if I'm committed to this relationship with Bella. Even though it pains me being separated from her, I'm willing to go for the long haul.
"It's a challenge I'm willing to take." I answered with a voice of conviction.
"Well if things don't work out between you and her, give me a call and we'll find you a girl you could double date with me and Heidi." Demetri said with a big smile as he thumped my back.
"Thanks, but I doubt it." I assured him.
"Damn, you're serious about Isabella, aren't you." Ben said. "You're like… hooked on her."
"It may have been only a few weeks since we started going out, but I am truly in love with her." I said.
"How serious is between you two on a scale of one to ten?" Jessica asked me.
I thought about it for a second. "What do you think?" I asked her.
"Oh my gosh, it's very serious." Jessica said in astonishment. "You have to introduce us to her!" If only they knew how they would react since they know her already. I thought as the warning bell rang indicating for the next class to start thus my friends and I went our separate ways.
I arrived in my English class where I saw the teacher isn't present giving the students some time to enjoy themselves before she arrives. As I make my way to sit in the back, I passed by a group of girls who were closed together talking about something.
"So, I noticed that Kenny was staring at me this morning. I got out of my car and he was like watching me. Does that mean he's finally noticing?"
"It's a possibility. Did he came up to you?"
"Well… no. I ran off when I saw him." That causes me to stifle a chuckle."
"Oh Ann, we got a lot of work to do."
"We'll help you out after school today."
"Will I really get him to like me?"
"Don't worry, with what we have planned, you'll be having Kenny going head over heels for you."
"Okay."
"Speaking of love life, I hear Bella is seeing someone." My stifling chuckle immediately stopped as I froze in my seat like I dropped a brick in my chest.
"Wait, really?! Who?!"
"They never said who, but there have been rumors going on of Bella going out with someone. No one hasn't heard anything or seen her since the birthday party. So there's speculation that Bella is indeed seeing someone."
"Is there proof about it?"
"Again, this is speculation, but it is weird how we haven't heard from her lately. Her social media accounts have been quiet other than her Twitter with her usual posting of quotes. You can believe it to be one thing, but there's always more to it than meets the eye."
"If she is seeing someone, I sure I hope it's Jacob."
"Why?"
"Uh, come on, he's hot! He and Bella are totally meant to be together. Have you forgotten their chemistry in To All The Boys I Loved Before? I mean Bella is so more meant to be with Jacob than that Lizzie girl. I mean what does she see in her?"
"I think Bella should be with Rider Daniels. I mean come on, who wouldn't want to date him?"
"Uh, didn't he get fired because Bella complained of him harassing her?"
"Someone must have spread that rumor around. My point is Rider and Bella are the perfect couple." The girls continued their gossip as I let out a breath of relief, not realizing I was holding it.
Well thank god they were assuming about who Bella's in a relationship with and not Bella actually seeing someone who isn't me. And not to mention about our relationship being exposed. That's the least we needed right now is our relationship being revealed to the public. I mean, we're not keeping this hidden from everyone, we're just not ready to tell them yet. All I can hope for is that my relationship with Bella will be okay. If we can handle this long distance relationship, we can handle anything. Maybe then we will tell everyone about us.
One thing I'm annoyed about from that conversation was just from how that one girl thinks Bella and Rider should be together, not at all seeing what a complete douche bag he is. I don't know what Rider did to make his fans so loyal to him. Either he is that persuasive, or the girls here are complete idiots only being crazy about Rider all because of his looks, failing to see what an arrogant airhead he is. Sometimes, I wish everyone would understand Bella's life like I do. She's not just a celebrity, she a human being. What she does is a career and what she does outside is her life. Didn't people see that from Keeping Up With The Kardashians? I mean that is what reality TV shows are about. They are unscripted after all. Well then again, I don't know because I never watched that show. Even if I didn't, I consider Kylie as my favorite Kardashian. Just being honest. My heart belongs to Bella.
"Don't worry ladies, if things don't work out between me and Bella, you all can have a chance with me." I looked up and rolled my eyes at the sight of Mike, along with Tyler and Austin, talking to the gossip girls. "I mean, we can still give things a try until then." He smiled with a wink, which I may say that a nerd can pull off the wink to the hottest girl in school than Mike. Okay, so one day he was head over heels for Bella and now he wants a shot with them? Then again, Mike's a dumbass.
One of the girls look around and then saw me. She then gave me a quick movement with her eyes and I understood what she needed when she said, "Hey Edward, you were at Bella's party right?"
"Um, yeah." I answered.
"That means you've been hanging out with her. Do you know if she's seeing anyone?" She asked causing me to nearly panic but I was about to mask it. Okay, I take that back, I'd rather have Mike try to take a shot at them than have me being under the spotlight.
"Um, no. I mean," I cleared my throat. "I don't know if she is. I haven't seen Bella since the party."
"So Bella stopped hanging out with you? Should've known. She doesn't hang out long with someone beneath her." Mike scoffed while adding a smirk.
"Oh you think you aren't? Bella isn't the kind of person who treats others below her. She's kind, respectful and has a heart to her fans who she cares about and she isn't one to judge people." I said with a glare. Unlike her mother who showed me the reason why I dislike her. "Besides Bella is a busy person so she doesn't have to hang out with me on my time. And at least I got to hang out with her." I smirked causing the girls to giggle.
"If she would've picked me instead of that little brat of yours on stage, she and I would've been hanging out all the time." Mike said as he came up to where I'm sitting.
"You watch your damn mouth about my little sister!" I snapped as I abruptly got up from my seat, my fists ready to strike.
"Mr. Cullen, Mr. Newton, is there a problem I need to adjust?" Mike and I turned to see our teacher Mr. Knight by the door with his arms folded wearing a stern expression on his face.
"Yeah Mike, is there?" I sneered at him.
"Not at all." Mike said, gritting his teeth and he joined his friends on the other side of the classroom as Mr. Knight walked over to his desk telling the class to get ready when the bell rang.
"Sorry about Mike." One of the gossip girls whispered to me.
"Don't worry about it." I assured her a smile causing her giggle and turned her head to face the class as Mr. Knight began the class.
Yep, this is how my life is. Even if I wasn't living in the smallest city in Washington, in the cold, wet places to be, my life is how it is. Being with my family, hanging out with my friends, squabbling with Mike, and pursuing my dream to be in the NFL. The only thing that could make my life better is if I her with me, and not in Los Angeles.
"You're sure are a hot mess." Bella giggled. "And that's the nicest way I could say to you as possible. Did you even shower?" She teased.
"Hardy har-har," I sarcastically with a chuckle as I ran my hand through my wet hair that I didn't bother to dry. "I just got out of the showers after I got home from practice."
"How did that go?" Bella asked.
I was in my room after a football practice. The minute I got home, I immediately showered to get rid of the sweats and smell I received. I almost slipped in the bathroom the second I was done with my shower and I may have had my underwear on backwards before I straightened myself, put some fresh clothes on, and returned to my room where I got onto my computer and Skyped Bella, who said she was available when I got home.
"Eh, it's the same as always," I shrugged. "Ran some drills, work on the plays, we should be fine for tomorrow's game as long as we all do our job." As long as Mike's not playing or at least stop being an anal nut bag thinking the game is about him, we should be fine. "What about you? You had a good flight home?"
"It was alright." Bella answered. "Minus Emmett and Jacob snoring on the way." She rolled her eyes as I chuckled. "Those two could wake Canada separately. But anyway, we got back around nine and right after that, Renee brought me and Jacob to meet with the cast and crew for our To All The Boys sequel. That took forever with everyone going on with what they need and filling out the cast. They are having auditions for the role for John, Lara's crush in sixth grade." She explained.
"Do you know who's trying out?" I asked.
"Why? Are you jealous?" Bella teased.
"I just wanna makes sure those guys act professional when it comes to the kissing scene." I chuckled as Bella laughs.
"If they were, they would have to answer to Jacob. Who, I'm surprised, you're not jealous of since he portrays as my love interest." Bella laughs.
"Well one, Jacob has a girlfriend." I pointed out with a laugh. "And two, even before we became friends, Jacob is not an arrogant hothead who takes a pleasure to kiss beautiful girls."
"That's because Jacob isn't narcissistic, self-centered with a complex of a Greek god." Bella said.
"That sounds a lot like Demetri." I commented causing us to burst into laughing until we both settle down.
"I was actually referring to Rider, but Demetri does fit the shoe more." Bella laughed. Then a thought came into mind.
"Have you… heard from him since the incident?" I asked, hoping he hasn't caused trouble.
"You mean when he nearly ruined our first date? No, not that I know of. I mean, my mother did wanted me to see him to "talk it out" for what happened, but I was not taking the deal." Bella said, shaking her head. "She refused to believe that Rider is just using that excuse just to kiss me, still defending him for his actions on that night." She said causing me to shake my head this time.
"Your mother does know that you have a boyfriend, right?" I asked.
"You mean him in her books?" Bella said bluntly.
We both sighed.
"We're a fine pair aren't we?" I murmured. "Somehow, our friends are a bit similar to one another and yet only three of our parents are supportive of our relationship."
"Despite the number of friends we hang out with, they all are amazing to us." Bella said. There was silence. "I miss you."
"I miss you too, love." I said. "Today has been so hard not having you with me."
"Its only going to get even harder the next day." Bella said sadly.
"I knew long distance relationships is hard, but I never imagined it would be like this." I sighed, running my hand through my hair.
"We knew it was going to happen before it started. But I know we can get through this, Edward. We're tackling this one step at a time." Bella said.
I just sat there and stared at my girl's beautiful face on the screen. Could she be any more amazing for how strong she's being on our relationship? Despite the obstacles we're about to face, she's fighting for this just like I am. … As if she believes in our relationship.
Before I could say what I wanted to say,
"I love you." Bella said… as if she read my mind.
I rested my chin in my hand as my elbow rested on my desk while looking into the screen. "I love you so much, it hurts Bella."
We both chuckled at how lovey-dovey we are.
Bella and I continued our Skype chat, though there wasn't much chatting (it was just silence of staring), until we were both tired and said goodnight to one another before turning off the screen.
One day down, and many more to go.
As Bella said, the next day of being in a long distance relationship is harder than the first. But it wasn't as bad. Sure, I miss Bella but it hasn't got in the way of my life. I had my future to focus on, such as the game for tonight against the Sharks.
We nearly struggled in the first half trailing 16 to 3, and that was because the defense held us down where we only got five first downs out of eighteen. Ben only got twelve yards of rushing from sixteen carries, Demetri only got three receptions out of twelve for only twenty five yards, Alec got none and I got sacked twice, thrown away the ball eight times and only made six out of fifteen completion for only a hundred and eleven yards. The defense didn't do so well either as they allowed so many first downs and failed on coverage (all because of Tyler) that gave the Sharks two touchdowns and two field goals. But they did missed an extra point. So yeah, it looked bad for us according to Coach who did the usual and yelled at the team for our performance using words that you don't need to hear. But after that, he started getting us on the right track on what we have to do and make a huge turn around.
So when the second half started, we made a comeback as our stats went up seventy five percent as we scored three touchdowns converting all extra points as our defense shut out the Sharks and even got them to miss a field goal and now we are on top 24 to 16. On the two minute warning however, the Sharks got the ball back and after many first downs, they got to the five yard line where they scored a touchdown. That was because Tyler easily let the Sharks wide receiver get passed him and he didn't do anything when the ball was thrown to him which was completely stupid. So now, the Sharks are going for two in order to win the game and they are on the two yard line that gave them a fifty-fifty chance to make this conversion. I was gripping on the shoulders of my teammates as the ball was snapped and into the quarterback's hands just as the defense made the blitz. The quarterback made a run for it towards the endzone when he suddenly tripped and fell caused by Jared when he was on the ground. His effort causes the Sharks quarterback to be stopped at the one yard line thus ending the game as me and my team, along with our school, cheered at the close call that was made for our victory. What's better is that Mike didn't have to play, much to his displeasure. Now we are 5 and 1 on our record. If we keep this up, we will definitely make the playoffs in route to the WIAA State Championship.
"You did well at the game." Bella said.
"Wait, how did you know?" I asked in surprised.
"Jacob was watching the highlights and showed it to us. I was on the edge of seat at the end of the game." Bella said.
I just returned home from the game where I was on the phone with Bella.
"Oh, did they get my good side?" I teased with a smirk.
"You are so full of yourself." Bella laughed.
"I'm not like that unless I back it up." I said with a chuckled.
"Smart ass." Bella said. "I wish I was there to see you play."
"I wish you were there too." I said sadly.
"Know that I have always been thinking about you. Looks like my prayers were answered to wish you luck." Bella said.
"You certainly did." I grinned. "You might be my good luck charm."
"Don't say that. You might jynx it." Bella laughed.
"Not unless I lose the game which I'm sure we won't." I said.
"Well when you lose, don't say I warned you." Bella said.
"Noted." I said. "So what have you been doing today?"
Bella didn't say anything until I heard a bark coming from Fluff. "Sorry, guess I was tired."
"Why don't you go ahead and sleep? You need your rest. I saw the dark circles in your eyes from our last night Skype session." I said.
"But I never got the chance to talk to you today." Bella said sadly.
"We have forever to talk. Please love, you need to take care of yourself. I don't want you to get sick because of me." I said.
"Okay, I promise I'll take care of myself. On one condition, you have to do the same." Bella said. "I just had a rough day, and it doesn't help that I wish you were with me. I miss you."
"I know how you feel." I said. "I'm always here for you. You can just text me, no matter when, and I will respond so that you know that I'm here."
"What did I do to deserve you?" Bella said.
"I ask myself the same question." I said. "I love you."
"I love you too." She said.
After a few more minutes, Bella and I hung up and I went straight to bed where I closed my eyes where Bella invaded my dreams.
The next day was met at school where everyone was celebrating on our victory for last night game. Despite accepting the praise, my mind was all on Bella. I was able to contact her before school to see if she felt better which she is. I was curious to what happened. She said she had a rough day. Could it had something to do with Renee's attitude as usual? I hope it wasn't something about Bella's relationships with me that would cause Bella to stress out over it. She better not. I hope Charlie is there to support his daughter.
At least things are getting Bella for us. We continue to text during the day and the call or Skype at night. We seem to find the routine the next day as things become familiar with what to do and that includes communicating with Bella. The more I've been doing this with her, the less painful this heartache has become due to being in contact with her made smile. It seems as if due to our love for each other, we were both very committed to this relationship while also balancing our other life.
They say long distance is hard and that one and third of those don't last. Well maybe they're wrong. Maybe it's because their lack of faith that led to the breakup. Maybe it's how they weren't that committed to their relationship and their feelings changed. Whatever it is, my relationship with Bella isn't like that. I mean, it won't be like that because Bella and I believe in our relationship. We committed in this more than anyone believes. And we love each other very much, meaning there is no one else that has our hearts but ourselves only. As long as we keep it up that way, we may be able to pull this relationship off until we reveal it to the public.
It was Friday and I was exciting where after school, after practice, I get to enjoy the weekend to relax, hang out with my friends, spend time with family and most of all, talk to Bella from a distance.
I arrived at the school parking lot where after I parked my car and locked it, I walked inside the building where students were everywhere chatting. But it wasn't just your normal chatter. I couldn't make out the words, but I can tell that it was something big to cause this much of a commotion.
I made my way through the crowd where I was able to find Alec, Seth, Ben, Angela, Demetri, and Heidi who made their way over to me.
"Hey guys, what's going on here?" I asked them.
"I don't know." Ben answered. "It's too loud to make out what the hell everyone's talking about." He said over the loud chatter.
"I wonder if this is how loud the Seahawks stadium is like." Seth said.
"Do you think we got a new student coming?" Angela asked.
"Can't be. Dad would've mention that to me and Jane." Alec said.
"If it's something hilarious happening to Mike, that would so make my weekend." Demetri said.
"You always wished something should happen to Mike to laugh at." Heidi said to him.
"He's funnier than the nerds here." Demetri said.
"Hey!" Ben said in offense.
"You're the cool nerd, like Peter Parker." Demetri waved it off.
"Still, hey!" Ben said as Angela rubbed his arm to calm him down while I chuckled.
"Guys!" My friends and I turned around to see Jessica and Jane coming over to us. "Did you hear?!" Jessica asked us, looking frantic.
"What's going on?" Angela asked.
"You would not believe this!" Jane said as she held up J – 14 Magazine, showing the front cover and what I saw shocked me as I froze where I stand.
There, taking most of the front cover was Bella where she was in the arms of none other than Rider Daniels himself to what look like they are in an embrace. It wasn't that to what shocked me. There was a note that revealed saying Rider will play the role of John in the sequel of To All The Boys I Loved Before. But that wasn't what shocked me. In the fine print said the words that made my stomach twist.
Bella Confesses…
