Chapter 39:
"Ryan Stoker..."
"It's not like that! That was an incomplete complete salvation! I didn't mean to revive them in such an unhealthy state!" He cowered closer to the crates. Sebastian stepped closer to him, causing the doctor's fear to rise and his knees to shake.
Sebastian moved closer to the doctor, eyes full of fake sympathy with a wide smile on his face. The doctor rambled about letting him go free before Sebastian grabbed the man and held him in place for questioning. His knees continued shaking as well as his teeth as he continued to talk.
"No need to be hasty. There is plenty of time before we arrive at New York, so we'll listen to your story leisurely."
"Wait a second! We have to hurry!" the doctor yelled, trying to break free from Sebastian's grip.
The doctor was sweating, spewing incoherent words at us. I tapped my foot, getting more impatient as I watched him fidget in his spot. The feeling of something bad was clawing at my guts but I didn't know what it was. It was as if something was sinking in the pit of my stomach.
"What is it? We've already cleaned them all up..."
"That's not it! The ship has a reciprocating steam engine in the center with a gigantic boiler! This place is divided into two sections!"
My eyes widened in horror. My arms fell limply to the side as the realization dawned on me.
"Are you saying that there are more of these things on the other side of the ship?!" I yelled.
"We have stored more than ten times of what were stored here!" the doctor cried.
I grabbed the man by his collar. His face contorted into complete fear as he looked at me and he tried shrinking away from me only to be forcefully pulled closer.
"You're saying that you numpties brought all of these dead people here without thinking of the consequence!"
"Well this is quite unpleasant, young master," Sebastian said calmly.
I closed my eyes in irritation, not wanting to look at my mate that was clearly enjoying the pain of everyone else.
"Do you think 'unpleasant' covers it all! Even one of these monsters is a complete hassle!"
I let go of the the doctor and Sebastian grabbed him roughly once again. I placed my hand on my face, closing my eyes in frustration and worry. A small headache formed as I tried to think of a way to handle the situation. Ten times more monsters than there were here, and I was having trouble fending them off myself until Sebastian arrived. With him it was faster but it was still a struggle. A person can only smash a corpses head so many times until it becomes tedious work.
"Ten times more than this... I'm sorry to say, young master, but this is too tedious of a task... even for me. And I doubt with my help Sebastian will be able to destroy all of them either. The best thing we can do is find the source of their becoming and stop them. And by now, they have most likely already taken most of the lives on this ship as we speak," I sated, urgency in tone.
There was a small pause as the young master thought of what to do next. His gaze met mind and Sebastian's as his eyes held determination.
"Sebastian, Celesta! Take my aunt and the others to a safe place!" Ciel ordered.
"What are you going to do?" I asked. There was nothing this child could do by himself on his own.
"We'd just be burden. Go ahead, I have a gun. We can manage. Come back when you are sure they are safe!"
"Certainly!" Sebastian left before I, running ahead with human speed. I took a step forward in his direction but turned around and gave the young master a worried glance.
"Go Celesta."
I turned and saw Sebastian waiting for me at the top of the stairs and looked at the young master one last time before nodding and following Sebastian out of the storage. It didn't take us a long time to get to the top seeing as we had other worldly advantages.
I looked around the area, recognizing the stairway the young master and I ran down from. I looked in both directions for a sign of a way out of here but found it useless. I didn't pay enough attention to know where I was headed. I turned towards Sebastian and walked closer to him. He stood as if he was analyzing something from afar.
"Do you know where they're at?"
"I can sense the Marchioness and the others near thee first class elevators."
"How are we gonna get there? We can't just show everyone that we aren't human."
He placed his hand on his chin and raised it in thought. "We will have to run very fast."
I sighed and ran ahead of him to where we first came from. The dead corpse of the grieving parents were still on the floor as we passed by them in the smoking room but we paid no attention to them as we continued running. Along the way we encountered many of the ghoulish corpses and destroyed the ones that got in our way. The others were irrelevant compared to fulfilling the child's orders. The Marchioness and her husband and son were more important than any other person.
"Are we getting closer to them?" I asked, voice a little shaky from the hard steps I was taking.
"They should be around the corner."
He was right. As soon as we rounded the corner there were more corpses trying to get at the Midford family. The marchioness stabbed one through the chest, only to see that it wouldn't be stopped.
Sebastian jumped and smashed the head of the one that was attacking them. A smug look made its way on his face as he landed.
"Are you alright, milady?"
"Butler!?"
I spotted one going unnoticed by the other and kicked it across the room, successfully smashing his head against the wall.
"The maid!?"
More made their way closer to us and began circling us closer to the elevator entrances.
"What are they?!"
"We're not really sure," I said, "but the best way to defeat them would be to smash their heads."
With a speed unlike any other normal swordsman, the family gathered around each other and stabbed the heads of the corpses that surrounded us. They fell limply on the floor, their limbs no longer moving as they once did.
The Marchioness lowered her swords hand, her face holding slight shock. She turned towards me, eyes showing approval.
"Apparently it is true. In consideration, I will excuse your indecent attire."
I gave a smile, my eyes closed and a tick mark on my forehead. The "excuse" for my tattered dress irritating me considering the predicament we were all facing.
Her husband and her son turned around and face Sebastian and I. Both held concerned looks. Their worry was radiating from them and I could feel every inch of it. My mind manipulation could not fix what they had seen, it wouldn't work.
"Butler! Maid! Where is Lizzy?" Edward Midford asked us.
"She is with the young master. They are both safe," Sebastian answered.
"We have nothing to worry about, then," she began, "if they are together. That boy will protect his fiance at all costs."
"At all costs you say?" Sebastian murmured, a slight devilish smile plaguing his face.
I glanced at him with a look that said "don't." I turned towards the Midfords as they gathered around each other.
"We were ordered to take all of you to safety," I stated politely.
They glanced over at me, determination in their eyes. They pointed their sword in the air, blocking their face and flaunting the silver blade.
"The members of the Midford household have protected England for many generations. As knights, it is our duty to protect the people."
"As knights, we protect the England. We protect the weak," Edward finished.
They face the Marchioness with big smiles on their faces. Their admiration for her shining through. "Right mother/ Frances!" They yelled at her.
"Yes," she looked over at Sebastian and I. We stood there watching them with slight confusion and slight amusement. "Go back to where they are right away. Do you know trust our skill as swordsman?" she questioned, her eyebrow slightly raised.
Their swordsmanship looked very good. I was never one to learn such thing considering I rarely had the need or the opportunity to pick up a sword. The best weapon I had was my fist, my wings, and my ability to manipulate the body's mind. I respected her and her family for learning such skills and showing determination in times like this. It was something I wish I had before I met Sebastian and the young master. They ability to feel good for the decisions I make. To feel confident. To be determined that I will do good for others.
"As you wish. Please be safe," Sebastian stated, bowing with a fake worried look adorning his face.
"Hey!" We stopped in our tracks and face the son of the Midfords. "Be sure to tell Ciel that if anything happens to my sister I won't forgive him!"
"Of course," I replied before running with Sebastian back to where the young master would be.
We stopped after taking two steps as the ship began jolting violently. I held on to the wall with the others as we stood near the exit of the elevator room. I faced Sebastian, confusion and worry evident on my face as the ship stopped trembling after a few minutes.
The Midfords looked startled as well. We all headed outside to the main deck. We began looking around for anything out of the ordinary when we spotted an iceberg behind the ship. The little bit of ice from the iceberg scattered on the main deck.
"Impossible!" Sebastian exclaimed.
He ran away from us. I moved with him as Edward yelled after us. We stopped at the ships control panel at the wheelhouse and I stopped outside of the door. Sebastian was muttering to himself about which lever he should push.
Whirring echoed around the ship and I sighed as I stepped towards Sebastian.
"This should prevent the flooding for now. But for all the crew who have been killed..."
I looked around me and noticed the dead bodies, more specifically the captain's body. His eyes were still open in horror as the blood surrounded him and the others on the floor.
"Won't there be others besides the young master and the others down there?" I asked Sebastian and I stepped around the bodies to move next to him. As I did, a quiet growl could be heard behind me.
"There might be... It seems like tonight will be the worst."
Sebastian kicked the corpse with his right foot and sent it flying through the window.
I stood looking throughout the room, taking in the controls and what use each of them had. My mind began whirling as I began thinking more and more.
"Sebastian what do we do?" I turned around to look at him only to find him gone.
I sighed in slight frustration and moved over to the main room. Everything was strewn about. I walked back out and grabbed the ships blueprints and walked it back to the table. I studied it the best I could and noticed that the area of the impact was directly in the center of ship, the back taking the most damage.
"With the way things are going now, everything will sink before we could even blink," I murmured to myself.
"We should get the young master than," Sebastian spoke behind me.
I jumped slightly and turned around to face him. His hair was soaking wet and he didn't have his tailcoat or his gloves on. His black fingers were visible for my eyes to see. His shirt was unbuttoned at the top.
"Where were you?" I asked, slightly irked.
"I was monitoring the condition of the ship. There seems to be an extensive area that has taken damage. At least four divisions are flooded with water, giving the ship at least an hour until it fully sinks."
"How cold is the water?"
"The water should be about two degrees. Swimming in it is no option. It will only harm the body." Sebastian put his tailcoat and gloves back on while explaining the situation.
With my humanity still intact it wouldn't have been the best option for me to touch the water, let alone Ciel. But I couldn't fly otherwise I would be seen.
"I don't know what we're going to do but please tell me you have at least some type of plan, Sebastian..."
"If I didn't, what kind of butler would I be?"
ALRIGHTY so I know like a whole month but you can't blame me ok. My creative juices were not flowing for a good moment ok.
