Chapter 45:

"I think your age is starting to get to you, old man..."

The undertaker started cackling as he held onto himself.

"Hehehe~ Just like when you were younger!"

My brows creased in confusion. "When I was younger?"

"Hee hee... drink this and see for yourself~"

I looked at the vial that was in his hands. Something in the back of my mind was telling me to drink. Maybe it was the demon in me, wanting to taste whatever it was in that vial. But another part of me, the part that was sane and human, kept telling me that I was going to regret my decision if I took that vial.

"I'm not going to, Undertaker."

"Well," he began, placing the vial in his robe, "you'll take it someday. I can't force a hurt bird to do something they don't want to do~"

I scoffed at him. The both of us became silent. I looked over at the flowers that I used to love as a kid and began thinking.

What would have happened if I was born a true human? Would everything had been better? Would my parents still be alive?

A bit of time passed until we finally went back to the funeral parlor. The undertaker ushered me back into the room that I used for the past three weeks. The world seemed to be slowly revolving as I laid there. Undertaker had not come to the room for any reason since we came back from the field of flowers. It left me feeling slightly lonely.

Another week had passes. The Undertaker had done nothing else besides give me food and make sure that I wasn't on the verge of dying. I walked around the room from time to time to get the balance back in my legs. It was hard, but with time and dedication I somehow managed to walk for a decent amount of time without falling over.

I was trying to walk around the room again, with the cane so I wouldn't completely topple over, when the door creaked open. I turned and spotted Undertaker with the familiar mysterious smile.

"We have somewhere we need to be~"

I narrowed my eyes at the Undertaker. "The last time we went somewhere you wanted me to drink a strange liquid."

"Not this time, darling~"

I knew I had no choice but to go with the reaper. He may have been smiling, but his smile was more forceful than his words.

I sighed and turned to get my robe from the bed to cover up the garment that was still covered in dry blood. I let Undertaker lead me to wherever it was he wanted me to go.

Standing in front of us was a grand building that made Ciel's manor look somewhat petite compared to it. The Undertaker and I stood in front of the building, the former standing as if it was something that he created himself.

"Undertaker, where the hell are we?"

"This, my dear, is a school!"

My eyes widened even more as I eyed the tall building in front of me. The design was intricately patterned and the fountain in the front was magnificent. The lawn was perfectly trimmed, not leaving a single etch of uneven grass to be seen by the eye. It was much cleaner than the streets and there was no stench to the school besides a hint of masculinity.

"Now, I need you to listen very carefully, little bird..."

I looked at the odd reaper with suspicion and confusion. What was the old man planning on doing at a school?

"I need you to fool the butler for me darling~"

My head tilted sideways in confusion. "Fool him? Why?"

"The butler and the Earl cannot find me just yet. I haven't had this much fun in my long years as a reaper; the chase is the best part!"

"But why me? If you love the chase then why don't you do it yourself?"

"Because I'm the acting principal of this school~ But they won't be happy once they see me off the bat neither will they believe it~"

I tsked and looked away. "Why the hell should I help you with your dirty work? You almost killed me and the others and who knows how many countless other people."

"Because I saved your life~"

He was right. He did save my life, but he also almost ended it. I ground my teeth together as I stood there. A feeling in my gut told me there was something wrong with what he was asking me to do. Something was wrong in general. The worst feeling was that of death; it was something that I could feel the easiest no matter what situation I was in.

I reluctantly agreed and the Undertaker grabbed my arm once more, dragging me to a room inside the large school.

"With the bindings around your chest this will be a lot easier than expected..." he said.

"Huh?"

Without another word the air was silent in the halls of the school. I looked around as we walked, noticing the lack of people in the building. The halls were empty and the only visible sound was the rushing of blood in my ears. Everything was too quiet. The halls were spacious with small archways that let one see into the yard. But even the yard was empty.

I walked behind Undertaker, slightly stumbling over the fast pace that he was taking. As we continued walking a dull ache etched itself at the stump of the missing wing. I tsked and gripped the walking stick a little harder as the dull pain reached my mind.

"Undertaker... I need you to slow down..." My breath hitched as the pain grew slightly stronger.

The Undertaker had not slowed his step. He seemed excited and jittery with each step he took, almost speeding up to a point where I couldn't properly walk. I was getting frustrated by both my pain and Undertaker.

We continued down the lustrous halls in haste. We finally made it to a room that was medium in size and unlit. Undertaker closed the door behind me and stepped over to another wall in the room. I couldn't see anything in the dark room and only stood by the door hoping that Undertaker would like a candle or open the drapes to the window.

My ears perked at the sound of a match being lit and soon one corner of the room was holding a glowing flame. Undertaker, still as quiet as he was when entering, moved to another corner of the room and lit a candle that was hanging on the wall.

"Alright little bird..." Undertakers voice rung out in the room. "This next step I'm going to need your cooperation~"

I didn't like the tone of Undertakers voice. It was more sinister than when he asked earlier.

I took a slight step back into the door while keeping my eyes on the reaper in front of me. I spoke with hesitancy in my voice.

"What do you mean? I've been cooperating with you since you decided to cut my wing off... There isn't much that I can do now can I?"

"But what I'm about to do, you won't like darling."

"And what's that?"

Undertaker placed his right hand inside his robe. It lingered inside for a minute before coming up from its depths, holding an object that I was not pleased to see.

"No."

"And you said that you would cooperate~"

"I said that I had no choice in cooperating. It isn't my fault that you decided to drag me over to this school to help with whatever diabolical plan that you had in that rotten mind of yours, old man."

"Such hurtful words."

"And I'll say a lot more before I drink whatever is in that vial."

The Undertaker chuckled. Before I knew it I was being pinned against the door. His left forearm pressed against my neck, causing my instincts to want to pull back as far as I could, only to choke in pain from the pressure on my back and the pressure on my neck.

"What the hell Undertaker?!" I choked.

"I need you to do as I say," his voice became deeper and less eccentric. The same voice I heard when I was fighting him on the ship. Chills ran up my spine from the aura emitting from his person. It was powerful and threatening. I wanted to retreat but I knew with the damage that was done to me, there was noting that I could do. "Otherwise things won't end pretty for you little bird."

"So you're gonna kill me?"

"Nope~ I made a promise to your parents. For helping me I help them, and there was nothing more that they wanted to keep you alive. If it wasn't for them, you would be dead already!"

"You bastard!"

"Now, I need you to drink this..."

Without any hesitation Undertaker's hand moved the liquid to the entrance of my mouth. His left arm lowered itself from my neck but his hand moved to keep my mouth open, his body pinned mine against the wall.

Slowly the liquid began falling in my mouth. I tried breathing it back out only to choke and swallow the content from the vial.

Undertaker released me before I fell to the ground choking on both the air and the liquid. After being forced to drink it my whole body grew on fire. My lungs were burning and my eyesight was becoming hazy. My fingers were growing black and longer and my decapitated wing was burning. Everything inside of me was on fire and I didn't know what to do.

I continued choking, trying to stop the pain by grabbing my throat and closing the little bit of distance between the muscle and the skin. I couldn't choking on the floor.

Undertaker stepped over me and walked away from my aching body. I faintly heard his footsteps stop a few feet away from my heaving body. Soon, an almost pitch black liquid was spewing out of my mouth as I coughed. More and more were falling out as each cough became coarser and rougher.

"You're almost there darling... Just hold on a bit longer..."

Soon the pain over took my senses and a new feeling of rebirth circulated around me. Everything in my vision was blurry but red and everything that I felt was amplified.

"You won't be able to feel anything for a while. I added something into the original vial before we left. But before you completely faint I'll tell you what was inside it... Your blood mixed with my brain fluid~"

"Why-" More black goo fell out of my mouth as I choked. I couldn't think properly over the different sensations that I was feeling.

"It's alright darling. Go to sleep, you'll come back soon~"
