The Shadow's Light

Sting X Nina (OC)

Learning Time!

One day, Nina had enough and nearly dragged Rogue and even Laxus to the library, warning the others to leave them alone so she can teach them a few things. Of course Sting tried to follow, but he eventually let her have her way, least he get whacked on the head again. Even the Exceeds were forbidden to join, which had Shina laughing at her partner's stubbornness as she took time to also help Froche and Lector use their Exceed magic, mostly on their ability to fly.

By midday, she was proud of the two before going over to a book only she knew was there. "Alright... I suppose I should show you why I wanted you two to learn more. This." She dropped the old-looking book on the table, causing the two men to nearly jump due to nearly passing out. It looked like it should've fallen apart years ago, but it was still in great condition, with the cover only having a few tears while some of the pages were starting to turn a golden yellow. The title caught the two men's attention: Lovers And Dragons. "I found this a while back, before I even knew of Rogue's existence. I only got here..." She pointed to the third chapter. "Actually, Gajeel said I could have it, since he 'didn't want it' and he had Levy anyhow."

Rogue chuckled as he realized what the book was about, considering it was from Gajeel himself. "And you didn't want Sting involved?"

"Well, no... I... Kinda wanted to surprise him with knowledge... I guess it's stupid..." She deflated into a chair at the idea before bringing her knees to her chest in defeat. 'Why would I believe I could do that? I'm a female Dragon Slayer... I'm supposed to submit to the standards... Curse my reading needs... I should've never accepted it... Perhaps Gajeel-san wanted me to give it to Rogue, Laxus and Sting?'

"Hey. It's alright. You should've just said so. Sting would rather learn from experience rather than books." Rogue pointed out with Laxus nodding.

"That kid won't judge the fact you're a bookworm. As far as I can see, he seems to care for you the way you are." Laxus added.

"Really? I stopped reading the book because... It said that... Well, here... Read for yourself." She pointed to the entry that made her stop reading the book.

"'Female Dragon Slayers and/or Dragons that are currently reading must stop at this chapter, for the rest of this book is only for the males. Females must now submit to anything and everything without fuss, for their only duty is to birth heirs to the magic and thus knowledge shall be forbidden to them.'" Rogue read before glaring. "This is stupid. Whomever wrote this is stuck in the past."

Laxus nodded. "Exactly. If every woman followed that, it'd be a shitty world. You should realize you break those kinds of rules all the time. I bet the author is stupid. Do I need to have your guy explain how dumb that rule is?"

Nina gulped and was about to say no when Rogue stood up. "I think he'll have a few words for that passage... I'll grab him, along with Yuki..." He stated and left the two alone in the room.

"Heh. He read my mind... I was gonna get him whether or not you agreed or not. Guess that's why we get along so well." Laxus teased as Rogue returned, with Sting and Yukino on his heels. "Mind tellin her this is a stupid rule?"

Rogue sat on the other side and let Yukino read the book from the beginning until the part where they currently were as he saw Sting cross his arms at Nina. He knew if anyone could make her realize the rule was irrelevant to them, it was Sting, considering that they had already 'broken' some rules in the book from what he recalled Gajeel explaining to him one day when he ran into the Iron Dragon Slayer a few weeks back.

"So, Rogue told me you're doubting things... Mind tellin me why?" Came the question.

Figuring she might as well bite the figurative bullet, she stared at floor for a while before sighing. "It's... because I kinda wanted to listen to the book, since it had more information that I thought possible... However... It also said I should stop trying to learn what I can about it and just give up... I'm supposed to give into the standards laid out by it... After all, besides Wendy, I'm the only other female Dragon Slayer, so I suppose I have to set an example for her for when she does grow up..." After speaking her peace, she took a chance to see that at first, Sting looked pissed off before looking disappointed. A tiny part of her heart felt like breaking at the sight, never wanting to disappoint him in any way, but seemingly found a way to do so. That was before he sighed and crouched to be level with her face and took her hands in his.

"That's a load of shit... You don't need to do anythin like that. The day you actually give into any stupid 'standard' is the day you die. You are an assertive, encouraging, and spirited woman. Never ever change this quality about you. It's somethin I adore about ya and I know it's stupid to say, but, I doubt anyone could ever be you in my life." He smirked a bit before continuing. "As for that passage, fuck it. In case you haven't figured it out, you've busted a few 'standards' already, so why start now? I am truly blessed to have you in my life."

Those words sank into her mind, destroying her view on her place in the world and made her realize that he was right about everything. She knew he meant every word because of how his blue eyes shown in the amount of love and respect he held for her. "You're right... I let it get a hold over my mind... Thank you..."

He winked and kissed her knuckles. "Anytime, Superwoman... Is it safe to join ya?"

She nodded with a grin. "This way you can stop me from doubting myself more." That got him to laugh and helped her to sit at the table, seeing how now Yukino was getting angry. "Uhh... Yuki?"

"How. DARE THEY! Assuming roles like that! I have half a mind to scold them, but they're long gone probably..." Yukino appeared to want to burn the book by the glare she was giving the poor thing and the way her hand twitched on her side, above the holder for her keys. "Libra should tear this thing from it's binding for that insult."

Rogue carefully placed an arm around the fuming form of Yukino. "Calm down, Sunshine. If you destroy it, you'll hurt Lita's feelings."

Yukino huffed again before smiling. "I suppose... I see why you had the doubts... Let's see if it's what I think it is... Oh, hello, Lady Minerva!"

"Hello... I wondered where you went so fast." Minerva stated before seeing the book. "Huh. That's a strange book..."

Nina giggled. "It's apparently something given to only Dragons or Dragon Slayers... Gajeel-san gave me it. And Yuki nearly tore it apart."

"I see... I might be able to help... Just give me a moment." Minerva said, using her Spacial magic to carefully lift the book up into the air before she frowned. "There was some sort of forbidden spell on it... Maybe it's why you and Yukino got so emotional..." Came the statement as she allowed her sphere to extract said spell off the pages and gently put it back down. "Now, try it."

That got the two to almost collide with their heads as they both looked over the book, which had Rogue and Sting worry about their mates and how serious the two had gotten for learning, which had Laxus laugh. "It's like watching Levy and Lucy all over again."

Sting rolled his eyes as Laxus got up to go do a job, Minerva following behind with her own laugh. He looked helplessly at Rogue, who could only shrug at the antics before sighing. "Well, I guess these two'll be gone for a bit... I hate to say it, but my paperwork is callin my name... Mind helpin, Rogue?"

"It won't hurt. I mean, I did interrupt you." Rogue agreed as they left their mates to the book.

Nina and Yukino both read most of the book and were disappointed when it seemingly ended with the cursed 'End' word in big letters on the final page, no hints towards if there were more or not. But, she grinned at the information they had. "If you want, Yuki, I can use my nose to help with some of that." She said with a wink as they put the book away and left.

"Could you? It'd be nice to know in the future... And... It'll let me treat my Knight..." She said with a giggle.

"Yeah. Just don't go into details, alright? I'd like to keep my respect for my brother high." She added.

"Alright... But, you'll let me know if I need to sick Libra or one of my other Spirits on him." Came the reply. "I mean, it helps that you're both Dragon Slayers... Then again, like it said, the cycle is different between males and females... I wonder what that means."

Nina, however, grew a smirk that Sting often had. "I think it involves the scents... I mean I will be able to tell when your cycle starts, ends and the best time to get pregnant all by your scent alone. I think Rogue would instinctively know, so that could be. And it was how me and Sting technically met, using a combination of our noses and our instincts. But, I can't believe Skiadrum didn't explain it fully... Then again, I was a child, so it didn't interest me."

Yukino smiled. "Rogue mentioned you two would rather play than listen to lectures, unless forced to."

She nodded. "Yeah, I suppose it's what made us really bond as siblings." She thought of how the marks from mates were apparently just the beginning of the mating, according to the book. It made her both excited for the true part, while scared what it meant afterwards before giggling. It wasn't a bad thing, though, considering her mate loved to leave hickeys all over her body as is. She, of course, returned the favor, though now it meant she could leave more in places that could be covered in public, but shown in bed.

"Oh, dear..." Yukino's giggle brought her back with a flush. "I take it you're planning something?"

That made her laugh a little. "Maybe? I guess we'll see soon, won't we?" That got the two to giggle some more as they passed by Sting's office, getting the Twin Dragon's attention easily. She enjoyed the chat with her sister-in-law to a point they both yelped in shock when their mates placed a hand on their shoulders. "E-Eh?"

"Jumpy much, babe?" Sting teased with a smirk.

"N-No... But I think I just lost ten years off my life..." Nina said, trying to get her heart out of her throat with a half-hearted glare towards her Sting.

"S-Same..." Yukino agreed with a frown aimed at Rogue.

"Sorry, Sunshine... But we had to see if you two were alright in the head... We tried to get your attention, but you were giggling the entire time." Rogue explained.

Nina let out a final calming breath before facing her man. "Done with paperwork already?" She teased.

That got him to roll his eyes. "Hardly. We were just starting when you two minxes decided to float past the door." He used an arm to pull her close to kiss her forehead and cheek. "Mind explainin that?"

That made both women suddenly flush as Yukino seemingly forgot how to speak while Nina tried to find words to explain it. "Ermm... Well, it's... Umm... Something... That we read in the book." She said shyly, which got Sting and Rogue to both raise the opposite eyebrow in question and got them to turn even more red. "IthadsomethingtodowithDragonmatinghabits!" She blurted out before trying to hide her face in Sting's chest.

"Come again?" Rogue asked.

"Yeah, can ya slow it down?" Sting clarified.

Nina gulped and shyly glanced up at her mate through her eyelashes, nibbling on her lower lip before trying again. "It had something to do... with Dragon mating habits..." She spoke slowly as she felt herself and Yukino both turn the color of Erza's hair from the top of their head to probably their toes. She, in unison with Yukino, yelped when their mate lifted them up and went opposite directions: Sting to his office and Rogue to his room on the other side of the guild hall. When Sting put her on the desk, she was surprised that it didn't disrupt any papers before she looked at her mate.

"So, what exactly about it?" He questioned with a smirk as he reclined in the chair.

Nina decided to explain it. "Well, according to the book, Third Generations, like you, me and Rogue, have to 'mate' a certain amount of times before the bond is permanent." She saw him nod as he scanned her body. "Obviously between you and me, we'd be able to tell when I go into heat and that, apparently, is the perfect time to make it permanent. However, it also works the opposite way... I'd be able to do the same to you whenever you go into heat... It'll be great karma for all the teasing you did to me."

Sting scoffed lightly and rested an ankle on his knee. "You think so, eh, Superwoman?"

"I guarantee it, Champ." Same her taunt with her own smile.
