Disclaimer: I own nothing of the DC Universe.

The Lords of Order are beings of nearly unlimited power devoted to opposing their cosmic opposites, the Lords of Chaos.

For almost all of existence they had empowered mortal agents to act on their behalf and establish order. It would work for a time then mortals would inevitably become chaotic either by their own choice or because of the Lords of Chaos intervention.

The Lords of Order were patient beings but even they had their limits and mortals had long exhausted their willingness to tolerate their nature.

It was time to enact a new plan.

Most people in Abilo Silva's position would be beyond excited, to be reborn in the DC Universe. The universe of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, plus so many other heroes and villains. The chance to have superpowers and fight crime had been a sweet dream of those very people.

Abilo was not one of those people.

He remembered getting sick and dying in the hospital surrounded by his sobbing family and waking up as a baby. He was excited at first with his new lease on life. His new family was pleasant, and he got to be in his home country of Brazil.

He was far less excited when the entire family was watching TV and he saw the announcement of Superman's first appearance in Metropolis. If Superman was real, then all the nastiness of a superhero universe was not far behind him.

The mass murdering supervillains who go unpunished for their crimes due to idealistic superheroes and an incompetent justice system.

The world-threatening private militias of various criminal groups and singularly individuals.

The alien armadas and actual demons from hell that attack every other week.

The actual physical gods ranging from clear evil to the apathic good ones.

The worst was the genocidal cosmic entities who changed existence itself.

It sounds fantastic when reading about it on pieces of paper. It was another matter when you inhabited the same universe.

Abilo couldn't help but continue to stare at the T.V. screen.

The past three weeks had been nothing but newscasts about the appearance of Superman, proof of aliens and all kinds of experts discussing the implications of alien life. The stories didn't end there though. Reports of strange creatures like a giant bat in Gotham and a flying green man that appeared in Coast City were also discussed. It was as if time itself stood still for the last few weeks since the reports first came out.

Abilo felt his stomach sink every time he watched this on the news. Superman was the lynchpin of the DC Universe and the herald of all the nastiness of a comic book universe.

In a way he could understand the world's attitude towards Superman. Aliens and otherworldly beings had been a figment of mankind's imagination for thousands of years. Now there was proof of them it was as if a bomb had been hit every aspect of society. He found it a little strange however that the general attitude of the world was wonder and excitement instead of fear and terror like he thought there would be in his original world, but it made sense considering DC Earth humanity were in general good people.

Abilo would be lying if he said he didn't share the same sense of wonder, but it was quickly overwhelmed by the fear. Most of humanity was sitting ducks who were utterly dependent on the superheroes to defend them from the endless threats of the universe. In his current state Abilo was in the same boat.

He had no superpowers as far as he could tell, connections to heroes or villains, he wasn't the wielder of some fancy alien technology or mystical artifact and wasn't even rich enough to afford any of those things.

A thought suddenly occurred to him that all the danger came enormous opportunity. He may have little now, but he wasn't going to sit around waiting for the world to consume him. He would gain all the power he could in all its forms so he could stand above everything and everyone.

As Marie watched her son eat his food at dinner her mind pondered her strange boy.

Marie knows she should be lucky to have such a child like Abilo. He had been an easy birth, rarely cried and was extremely well behaved for a child. He was also very intelligent, grasping his schoolwork with an almost bored ease. He was already speaking in full sentences and could hold conversations with her and Vitor in almost any subject.

Yes, she should be lucky and even happy, no she was happy, but it didn't stop the feelings of unease in the dark areas of her mind.

No infant should be walking around should be like Abilo. It was impossible for a kid to be so adult like before they reached their fifth birthday, yet Abilo was doing it. She had talked to Vitor about it, and he admitted to sharing her concerns. He pointed out; however, things could be far worse. Abilo was a healthy boy with a high intellect which would give him a good start in life. Marie admitted he had a point there and decided to let her ignore her own unease.

Her concerns were brought up to the surface again when the Superman hit the news and Abilo stared at the screen as if was the only thing that mattered in the universe. When she gently touched his shoulder, he jumped and immediately ran to his room informing her he had something to do.

One night at dinner it was just the two of them as Vitor was busy working late when Abilo stopped eating and looked straight at her with a worried expression on his adorable face.

"It's going to get worse mom."

She looked at him with a puzzled expression.

"Superman is just the start of a whole crapload of trouble coming down on the world."

Marie was a little confused at Abilo's statement. A man who could fly, have super strength, and heat vision was a little worrying but all the news reports showed the man protecting people from criminals and natural disasters.

"What do you mean sweetie? Superman helps and protects people."

Abilo nodded in agreement then continued "Superman is a hero but a lot of people out there are going to be supervillains."

"Supervillains?"

"Every hero out there is going to have least ten supervillains against them. Most of them are going to fight the hero, get defeated, thrown in prison and break out to continue committing crimes. Most of them will have at least killed hundreds of people and none of them will get punished. The good news is most of the heroes and villains will be in America."

Marie opened her mouth to ask multiple questions, but Abilo continued

"That won't stop us from being affected but a supervillain attacking is going to be the least of our concerns considering all the alien invasions and cosmic beings around the corner."

He looked at her straight in the eye.

"No matter what mom I will do whatever it takes for our family to survive and be on the top."

From another person the words Abilo spoke would have sounded crazy, but the sheer frankness left no doubt in her mind everything he said was going to come true. She wanted to tell him it was all in his head but she didn't want to discourage him from talking about these things with her.

The last thing she wanted was for him to freeze her out.

"Thank you, my sweet boy, but your father and I will do whatever we can to protect you."
