Human Encampment: Ka'an vs Phantasms

People and monsters alike gathered around monitors with the promise of an epic duel coming from the training grounds. The screens showed the labyrinth where duels have been taking place for the last few weeks to get ready for the coming battle.

"This is going to be good!"

"Haven't seen the Captain duel in ages!"

"Wasn't he the one that eliminated the Dark World clan near the mountains?"

"Yeah! And now we're getting an exhibition match! This is epic!"

As more and more eyes turned to the many monitors showing what was going to be happening, some noticed how there was no visual on anyone inside the tunnel.

"Where are the combatants?"

Camera angles changed and changed again until finally, one angle showed a single being clad in dark clothes waiting in the tunnel for the other.

"Who is tha…"

The question went unfinished as soon as a voice called out, no, it was screaming into the darkness. "Come and find us quickly! We are eager to deliver to you your long-awaited DEATH!"

"Wait, what did they say?"

"Your death is long overdue! And we will be delivering it to you NOW!" They screamed.

Elsewhere:

Akiza and I were watching from inside our house, looking at each other and back to the monitor, and understood exactly what was happening here.

"Oh no! I thought he was dealt with already!" Akiza pointed out to me, beginning to clutch her knees to her chest.

"We did. Steve Bensen is a dead man," I said with absolute certainty.

"Then who is that and how do they know about Ka'an?"

"I'm gonna head down there to find out. Stay here!" I said then ran out to head for the training grounds.

Training Grounds

Ka'an heard noises up ahead, "finally, I was getting worried that someone had…made a…mistake…," Ka'an was looking at the opponent in front of him, and there was something definitely wrong with them, "who are you?"

The person standing there was clad in black garb, better for sneaking around than going into a duel. They just stood there looking dead ahead and didn't even respond to the question.

"We will have our revenge, free-man!"

The mouth moved on the body, but the person standing there wasn't in control.

"You have stopped our attempts to make this world and yours, into our own! This world is ours to control! Ours to reshape in any way we choose! Then we will take your world and change it into what we desire! We will conquer everything!!"

Then their eyes glowed red and then Ka'an knew what was happening, "no!" He stood there staring at this dead person, how the body was being used and he was talking directly with the Phantasms. "I don't care who you are or what you want. I'm going to send you all to hell when I'm done with you!" He pointed out, matter of factly.

"We will have words with you, free-man! We will eat your soul to strengthen ourselves!" They spat with a blood-soaked mouth.

"Duel!" We said together.

"I draw!" Ka'an started, "first I'll activate Card Advance, allowing me to check the top five cards of my deck, rearrange them in any order I desire, then put them back on top of the deck. Next, I'll activate The True Name, I declare the top card of my deck, and if I'm right, I get to add that card and a Divine monster from my deck to my hand." I explained.

"Seeing as you just looked at the top of your deck, it's no surprise what you're going to declare," they deadpanned.

"True. So I declare that the top card of my deck is Electromagnetic Turtle. Lookie there, I was right, so now I gain this card and my Obelisk the Tormentor to my hand!"

"No surprise, free-man. Now finish your move so the torture can commence!" They threatened.

"Oh, the torment has just begun! Now I'll set three cards facedown and set one monster in defense mode. That ends my turn." Ka'an finished.

Four card backs formed onto his field.

"About time, we draw!" They started, "we set one monster and one card facedown, this ends our turn," They finished.

Two card backs formed onto their field.

"Not a strong start to this duel huh?" Ka'an noted, "I was at least able to go after my card immediately, where are your Phantasms?" Ka'an mocked.

Outside the tunnel

"Open those doors! We need to get reinforcements in there now!" Sgt. Mulchay demanded.

"We're trying, sir!" A technician responded, "these doors are magically-sealed and only when a victor is declared, will it open naturally."

"I don't care about 'naturally', get it done now!"

Techs and mages both went through options to undo what was considered a good idea at the time, now frantically trying to remove it. A little ways off, I pushed through crowds that had gathered around the tunnel and monitors to see what was going to happen next in the duel. Soldiers saw me coming and barked orders at the civilians.

"Make a hole! Clear the way!"

Inside the tunnel

"My turn, I draw!" Ka'an started, "I'll set a second monster facedown and end my turn there. Soon I'll have enough to tribute to get my Obelisk onto my field, then nothing you have will be enough to save you from defeat!" Ka'an declared.

A card back formed onto his field.

"We are not afraid of your god card. We look forward to corrupting it, and the others to have absolute power over all things!" They declared, "we draw! We flip face-up our Big Eye. Now, we are able to rearrange the top five cards of our deck, just like you. Now battle! Big Eye will attack your left monster!" They commanded.

An ugly red creature with eyeballs covering its body formed onto the field then pulled out one of the eyes and threw it at the facedown card.

"You just attacked my Shining Piecephilla! Who has 2000 defense points to your 1200 attack! Now you lose some points and Piecephilla gains one Piece counter, then I'm allowed to activate her first effect to place one monster directly on top of my deck. Allowing me to gain my third and final tribute for Obelisk!" Ka'an explained.

The eyeball slammed down onto the card back, flipping it up to reveal a green gem crystalized rock sprite with golden yellow wings and a halo appeared on the field, blocking the attack and dealing -800 in damages, leaving 7200lp.

"Grr! We end our turn!" They finished.

Outside the tunnel

"Woah! You see that?! The Captain hasn't lost control of this duel since it began!"

"Right! That's why he's the Captain!"

Akiza watched from our home, seeing how Ka'an was controlling the situation. How he was in control and not allowing anything to affect him. Sighing, she wished she could be as brave as he was. To not allow things to bother her or get under her skin. The last thought made her shudder as the thought of what Steve did to her flashed through her mind. How his tongue went inside her and…, she quickly shook the thought away. Trying to focus on the duel and push those memories away.

I finally reached the control area of the Training Grounds, "what is goin' on here Sergeant?!" I demanded.

"Technical issues Commander!" Sgt. Mulchay turned and saluted the new officer on deck, explaining the issue, "we're trying everything to get that tunnel open and send in reinforcements!"

"Get it done faster!" I demanded, "and how did that person even get inside? Show me all the footage from that tunnel for the last three days!"

Inside the tunnel

"I draw!" Ka'an started, "and you know what happens next, I summon my Proof of Pruflas in attack mode!"

A grey see-through creature with transparent yellow wings formed on the field.

"This allows me to tribute summon, as long as he was successfully summoned this turn. Now I can tribute all three of my monsters to…," he was cut off by a cackle.

"Do not think we did not anticipate you gaining what you needed, so we have a trap for you! Go facedown card, Crackdown! We gain control of one of your monsters before you can tribute it! We choose your Piecephilla!" They declared.

A line shot out of the card and wrapped around the little green gem monster and dragged her to the other side of the field.

"Now you do not have what is needed to summon your creature!" They mocked.

"Maybe so, but all you've done is delay the inevitable. I'll get another monster soon enough and then your end will follow." Ka'an explained coolly, "I end my turn."

"We draw!" They started, "we tribute your Piecephilla to summon our Dark Summoning Beast in attack mode!"

A dark creature with pale skin, dark armor, red leathery wings, and draped in a satin blood-red cloth appeared.

"Now we tribute it to special summon Raviel, Lord of the Phantasms in attack mode!"

The air felt ominous, and the ground shook but it wasn't bad. Then the shadows all shifted and coalesced into a pair of yellow-glowing eyes above the other man. The shadow began to grow until it filled the tunnel. The form of the evil god grew more visible, it had blue scales and wings, but its body was a sickly purple.

"We will have our revenge! We tribute Big Eye to give Raviel more attack points, battle! Raviel attack his Pruflas that is in attack mode!" They commanded.

"Oh!" Ka'an cringed at what was coming.

Raviel threw back its arm and gathered energy in its claws, then threw it forward and brought it down onto the smaller creature, destroying it, and dealing him -5200 in damages, leaving 2800lp. A hole was blasted through the roof of the tunnel, screaming high into the atmosphere, a sickly black and green color.

"Aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!" Ka'an screamed as he went flying back from the blast.

A crater was left where his card once was standing, as the dark energy blast faded, light shone through the newly formed hole.

Outside the tunnel

Everyone watched with anticipation for the coming of Ka'ans' Obelisk but was soured when it was stopped. Then they were awed when an Obelisk look alike suddenly appeared on the enemy's field, and even more so when an attack was declared.

"Attack!"

The ground shook and the screens blanked out to static-filled snow, then the sky lit with a sickly green color as all eyes turned towards where the training grounds were, at the pillar of power that shot out of the ground.

"Ka'an!" I screamed in despair.

Spirit Castle

Dark Magician Girl and her advisor, Dark Magician, were discussing final details on how to properly contain the power they were about to unleash on the goo of the human world when suddenly both stopped talking and just felt an evil presence be unleashed.

"Master?"

"Yes, my student. I feel it. But it cannot be!"

The doors to the throne room burst open as a servant monster ran in, "your Majesty! You need to look outside to the Human Encampment now!"

The urgency in their voice got them both to move swiftly to the nearest window just as the sickly green energy blasted out of the ground.

"No!" She gasped.

Outside the tunnel

Everyone was picking back up equipment and checking their connection status. I grabbed my head and felt a wet spot. Looking at my hand, saw some blood, and pressed the wound to try and stop the bleeding.

"REPORT!" I shouted above the clammer and yelled, "what's the status on the doors? Get those monitors up again!" I commanded

"Monitors are functional, power stable, and equipment is mostly unharmed," came the reply from Mulchay, "check the technicians by the doors for an update!" He shouted, "Ma'am, we are good here, bringing back the feed shortly.

"Not good enough!" I countered.

"Almost got it, there! Visual restored on the duel…Oh...god!"

"What?! What's going…on," I got to a monitor and saw Ka'an laying on the ground not moving," GET THOSE DOORS OPEN NOW!!"

Inside the tunnel

Coughing up blood, never having been hit as hard as he just was, Ka'an began to crawl forward a few feet, to get back to the duel, "oh god, why am I not dead?" He noticed one of his cards on the ground, picked it up, looked at it, then slapped it onto his duel disk. "Juregado!" He coughed out.

A Purple monster with claws, formed on his field. Giving him 1000 extra points, raising his life points to 3800lp. Some wounds healed and Ka'an was once again able to stand. Noticing his other card sticking out from under some rocks, he picked it up too.

"When Juregado is special summoned, he gives the summoner 1000 additional life points."

"We have only just begun! But now we are in charge of this duel, and soon we will feast on your corpse! We end our turn!" They finished.

Ka'an coughed to clear his throat, and wiped some blood off his face, "I draw!" He started, "now I summon Mirage Dragon in attack mode!"

A slender dragon wearing golden armor and long flowing blue hair, with a sickle for a tail.

"He blocks any traps you may have during the battle phase." He explained.

"We do not care! We will have victory today!" They spat back.

"I end my turn," Ka'an finished.

"We do not expect you to be alive after this turn, free-man. This is your end! We draw!" They began, "we activate Fallen Paradise, now we are protected from your card effects, and it allows us to draw two more cards," they drew and then grinned, "next we banish Dark Summoning Beast to add Hamon to our hand from our deck! Next, we activate Allure of Darkness to draw two more cards, then banish one dark monster from our hands, Mad Archfiend will do. Next, we activate Cerulean Skyfire, this allows us to special summon Hamon by using facedown spell cards, such as the three cards we will set right now. We send three cards from our field to special summon Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder in attack mode!"

A large yellow creature with large leathery wings and ugly-looking spear-like claws on its arms appeared on the field. The sky turned black with ominous-looking clouds filled with crashing lighting and clapping thunder.

Outside the tunnel

Everyone looked up at the newly formed clouds, and I thought to myself that this can't be good.

"Get under cover now!" I ordered.

People dived for anything to give them some semblance of protection, tables, outcroppings of rocks, and vehicles in the area, just as the lightning began to strike all around them. A few hadn't made it in time and they were struck dead-on and their bodies flash-fried on the spot, only leaving smoldering skeletons to fall uselessly to the ground.

"My god! Stay undercover 'till this is over!" I screamed out as loud as I could. My eyes fell on a single monitor still running and how the electrical interference was messing with the quality of the image, "Ka'an."

Spirit Castle

"We must do something now! Those humans will be killed if they remain so close to the event horizon of the Phantasms!" Dark Magician Girl noted, "get the dragon wing to head there to start evacuations!" She commanded.

A monster bowed, turned, and ran to deliver the order.

Dark Magician Girl turned to her advisor and then ordered him to deliver a message to the Magician clan, "tell them we need an immediate shield spell over the rest of the Human Encampment to keep what happened last time from happening again!"

"Yes, your Majesty!" Dark Magician acknowledged and then powered up his staff to form an instant teleportation spell, then was gone in a flash.

"I hope we're in time," she whispered.

Inside the tunnel

"Hahahaha! We now have two Phantasms here! Our victory is assured!" They announced, "battle! First, Hamon will sink his teeth into your dragon! Attack!" They commanded.

"Not so fast!" Ka'an countered, "I activated Heavy Storm Duster! Now I can destroy two spell or trap cards on your field!"

A fast-moving wind began to blow through the tunnel, forming into a tornado between both duelists.

"Tch! No! Cerulean Skyfire negates and destroys your trap card, but it also turns our Hamon into defense mode! You have saved yourself, for now, free-man!"

Hamon flares its wings wide, flapping away the tornado, then curls in on itself to hold back anything else.

"Do not think we're done! Raviel can still attack! Annihilate his dragon!" They commanded.

Raviel again raises his hand to form energy to bring it down onto his target.

"I activate the quick-play spell Soul Crossing! This allows me to tribute summon my Obelisk and use your monsters to do it!" Ka'an countered again.

"What?! No!" They screamed in defiance.

"Now I sacrifice BOTH of your Phantasms and my facedown monster to summon my Obelisk the Tormentor in attack mode!"

Ka'an held up the last card in his hand and it glowed with pure energy. Both Phantasms and the facedown monster glowed and shot into the card's face. The clouds overhead stopped their constant lightning strikes. All the energy instead coalesced into a single point before shooting down into the tunnels. From within the energy, a dark form took shape and stood above the field, towering over both combatants. Blue-bodied and glowing red eyes shone down onto the opponent with rage-filled intentions.

Spirit Castle

Dark Magician Girl felt the wave of god energy flood past her, and every monster preparing to take off for the Encampment stopped and looked to the battlefield below.

"Ka'an!" She gasped.

"We need to go, your Majesty!"

"Yes! Let us head out now!"

Outside the tunnel

People began to peek out from their covered positions and noticed the lack of lightning crashing down on them.

I jumped up and went to a monitor to see what was happening, "Ka'an! He's summoned Obelisk!"

Human Encampment

Akiza watched it all unfold, the despair, the brutality, and the utter disgust of what the intruder was doing, but then it all switched like a flip of a switch. Suddenly the demonic beasts that were oppressing Ka'an were just gone and there stood the same monster that has dealt with every threat without fail.

"Obelisk…"

Inside the tunnel

"No! No! No! This cannot be happening! We are the ultimate power! We are supposed to be victorious!" They screamed.

"My Obelisk would beg to differ." Ka'an snides back.

"We set one monster in defense mode and end our turn," they finished.

"I draw!" Ka'an started, "battle! Juregado, attack their facedown monster!" Ka'an commanded.

The monster flew forward and slashed the card to ribbons.

Mirage, Obelisk, attack them directly!" He commanded.

The dragon flew forward and slashed the puppet, dealing them -1600 in damages, leaving 5600lp. Obelisk leaned down and punched the puppet directly, dealing them -4000 in damages, leaving 1600lp.

"Grah! You will pay for this, free-man! We swear to return and destroy all you care for!" They threatened.

"I doubt it. I set one card face down and end my turn," Ka'an finished.

"We draw!" They began, then stopped, "we will have our revenge, free-man! We end our turn." They finished.

"Not in this lifetime! I draw!" Ka'an started, "battle! Obelisk! Finish this duel and eliminate the Phantasms for good! Fist of Fury!" He commanded.

Obelisks' hand started to glow with white-hot energy, then he drew back his fist and cocked his arm in a launch position.

"We are eternal, free-man. We will return, and you will not be there to defend them from us again!" They taunted him.

Ka'an stood there looking at them with curiosity for just a moment, then declared, "attack!"

Obelisk's fist came forward and slammed down onto the man puppet of the Phantasm, disintegrating the body and deck of cards it was wearing, dealing -4000 in damages, leaving 0lp.

Outside the tunnel

The ground rumbled again, then a shot of white god energy shot out from underground. Everyone looked up and watched it clear the clouds revealing blue skies above.

I looked at the monitor, having watched the last of their enemy finally be extinguished, "Ka'an," I breathed a sigh of relief that he was still alive, and won.

"Shelly Carson!" A voice shouted out from overhead.

I looked up to see Dark Magician Girl descending on dragon wings and how there was a literal army of monsters flying overhead, surrounding the area.

"How goes the duel? Has Ka'an come out victorious?" She asked as she landed and dismounted the dragon carrying her.

"Yes! Yes, he has won and eliminated the enemy, yer Majesty. The doors should open on their own now and we can get to him." I said with relief in my voice.

Dark Magician Girl walked up to the monitors and looked at the devastated tunnel on the screen, "he sure made a mess in there, didn't he?" She asked jokingly.

I couldn't help but laugh at the bad joke in disbelief, "yes, yes he did."

Inside the tunnel

Ka'an stepped to the end of the tunnel. Looking back at the charred remains of whoever was being controlled by the Phantasms sighing.

"Sorry, whoever you were, but I hope by defeating them, you'll be able to find some peace in the hereafter."

He then looked up to the clear sky and wondered how this happened. How could that deck have been claimed again so soon and find its way back to him? He pondered as a roar came from overhead. He turned to look where it came from and noticed Dark Magician Girl, medics, and myself heading his way. He smiled as we got closer.

Then he promptly collapsed.
