AN: Thank you to everyone who gave suggestions in the reviews. I combined a couple of different suggestions into one for the final quirk. Also, to those saying he should have a physical enhancer that's what the lung power is. In Demon Slayer, the breathing techniques that his quirk here give him allow for enhanced physical abilities thanks to that improved oxygen flow.
Shards of Power
Chapter 2
-Izuku-
Nervously, Izuku stepped out of the car, holding his mother's hand as she led him inside the building Nezu had sent them to. It was the first time he'd left their house in the past week and only the second time since he was released from the hospital. He'd tried going back to school for only a single day before his classmates ran him out of the school. They'd been bullying him for being weak and quirkless but when he tried showing he had quirks now they ran him out of the school. Called him a monster, a quirk thief, a freak.
He hadn't gone back since and now Nezu was taking that school to court for the staff allowing that kind of environment.
"Do we have to be here?" Izuku mumbled, his scars still throbbing but thankfully not as much as before. The final quirk had been discovered to have belonged to one Haku Himura. It allowed him to absorb cold temperatures to heal. Although it was weaker, needing colder temperatures and longer exposure to heal more severe injuries, it did help keep his scars from aching and allowing his body to heal and adapt to the new quirks and organs.
"Sweetie, this will be good for you." His mother stroked his hair gently, careful not to irritate the scars by his eyes. His face, thankfully, had minimal scarring but his torso underneath his shirt was riddled with scars from the attack and the surgeries, "And these kids won't be like the ones at that…school." Given his mother's suddenly scowling expression which only lasted a split moment he was pretty sure she wanted to say something besides school, but he wasn't sure what, "Everyone here came to be helped like you." Izuku glanced up at the signs pointed them where to go. The location was a group therapy for kids who were bullied or had self confidence issues because of scars or their quirks.
"O…okay." Izuku gulped, letting his mom lead him into the room where he could see a lot of other kids. Some were little like him, others were already teenagers.
"Hello," The sole adult in the room, one who had stick like hair which let of little wisps of smoke, approached, smiling gently as Izuku hid behind his mom's leg, "I'm Yukiko sensei. Are you the Midoriyas?"
"Yes, Nezu said you'd be expecting us." His mom spoke up, Izuku still too nervous to come out.
"Yes, he said your quirk recently came in?" Yukiko sensei looked Izuku's way as he nodded nervously. Nezu, his mom, and the doctors had told him to tell everyone that he wasn't originally quirkless but just had a latent one-use quirk which let him get the powers from the transplants. They'd said that if people found out the truth, then others could get hurt by villains wanting to do the same thing.
"From how he described it I think you and little Monoma will get along." Yukiko Sensei led him toward the other kids who were getting settled in their chairs, his mom heading to a side room with the other parents. Izuku was placed between a blond kid around his age who looked really nervous and a really big kid who wore a face mask, "Shoji, Monoma, this is Midoriya." Yukiko sensei introduced him to the two, "It's his first day here."
"H-hi." Izuku shyly offered a hand to shake, noting that while Shoji shook it, Monoma flinched away from his hand as if scared.
"Monoma, it's okay." Yukiko sensei soothed the nervous blond, "Nobody here will hurt you because of your quirk, I promise."
"Can…can I wear the gloves?" Monoma asked softly, not meeting Izuku's eye.
"If you have to, but I'd like you to try and go without if you're able to Monoma." Yukiko sensei allowed as Monoma hastily pulled on gloves, only shaking Izuku's hand once there was no chance of their skin touching.
Eventually, the last few people arrived as Yukiko sensei began the session. One by one, those seated would talk about the things that happened to them recently, getting them off their chest as Yukiko sense helped them understand what they were feeling, helped them through it, and the group would offer support.
Monoma sat up, wringing his hands nervously, "I got beaten up by my neighbor again." Monoma was nervous as he spoke, clutching his gloved hands, "I bumped into them when I was coming home from school, and they said I was trying to steal their quirk." Izuku looked over surprised at that.
As Yukiko sensei helped comfort Monoma and the others offered their support, Izuku's mind was racing, putting together the clues and he was pretty sure he'd figured out what Monoma's quirk actually was.
"Midoriya, it's your turn." Yukiko's voice snapped him out of his thoughts as he gulped and nodded, standing up.
"I…I'm Izuku Midoriya." He was shaking, he hated that he was shaking "I was caught in a villain attack a few weeks ago and the doctor had to replace almost all of my organs." His hand went to his chest, feeling the scars under his shirt. The other kids assembled with scar related issues all grimaced in sympathy "I…I thought I was quirkless before, but the doctor figured out that my quirk was a one-time use. When I got the transplants, I ended up with weaker versions of all the quirks from the original users, so I have eight different quirks now. My old school used to bully me and beat me up for being quirkless. Now it was because I'm a quirk thief or a freak to them." Monoma's eyes were wide in sympathy, none of the others having been called such things by their tormentors. It felt…nice, to not be alone.
He could tell some of the group were curious what his quirks were, but nobody pushed, instead offering him support about what his tormentors said. Some of the kids who came about their scars recommended various creams or treatments to make them ache less. Slowly, the tension started to leave his shoulders as he sat back down, Shoji standing up next.
"My substitute teacher forced me to take my mask of in class." Shoji rumbled, "They recoiled at my scars and face as did my classmates." And so, it continued, Izuku doing his best to speak up in support of the others in the group, glad he left his house.
-Nezu-
"Ah, you're both here." Nezu's tone made it clear that this was a serious discussion to be had rather than simply catching up, All Might and Gran Torino sharing a nervous glance.
"Is it about…him?" All Might clenched his fist as Nezu shook his head.
"No, no it isn't. This is about an injured child, a potential crime spike, and Nana Shimura." Nezu explained as the two heroes who had been closest to the seventh user of One for All shared a baffled expression.
"To Nana?" All Might questioned.
"And what child?" Torino pressed.
"Are you two aware of the villain attack that was over at the Jaku mall a few weeks ago? How a child was caught between the villain and the imbecilic 'Hero' who didn't care about collateral damage?"
"I did." All Might scowled, clearly displeased by the incident in question.
"The child in question is a little boy named Izuku Midoriya." Recovery Girl spoke up, handing over a picture "Sweet kid, and smart too. But more importantly, before that incident he was quirkless."
"Wait, was?!" All Might looked panicked, "You said this didn't have anything to do with-"
"And it doesn't." Nezu reiterated, "The child had to get organ transplants…several organ transplants. And, somehow, he gained the quirks from the organs' original owners. Albeit to varying degrees of power."
"I can see how this could cause a crime spike if it was found out." All Might nodded slowly, "But what does it have to do with Nan- OW!" All Might rubbed his head where Torino had hit him with a cane.
"You giant oaf! He's saying Nana's was one of the organs!" Torino snapped at the current Number One.
"Yes, her heart specifically." Nezu nodded, "And the power that flowed through her body meant that while he didn't get the boosted version of flight, he still had her quirk at its original strength of float."
"Would it still have the embers of One for All?" All Might sounded morbidly curious as Nezu and Recovery Girl went still.
"I…hadn't considered that." Nezu admitted as Recovery Girl brought out a list of Izuku's quirks, "It's something we'd have to observe. Regardless, the boy wishes to be a Hero. And I had a feeling the two of you would want to be involved in the training of someone who, quite literally, carries Nana Shimura's heart."
"Nezu, it would be my genuine pleasure." All Might grinned.
"And since I actually know what I'm doing when it comes to teaching, I'll help too." Torino pipped up, taking all the wind out of All Might's sails.
