Chapter Three Hundred and Seventy-Eight
Happy Birthday Daddy, Part Eighteen: Daddy's Nap Time (and PTSD)

It turned out that the kids weren't the only ones that needed to take a nap, as Matt ended up needing to take as well; something that he did whilst in the midst of cuddling up to Gabby and watching Selling Sunset. But it seemed that Gabby didn't even notice due to the fact that she was just so comfortable when it came to them watching this show, while also being held in Matt's arms, which is why she ended up scaring him as she moved against him in a way that brought back some back memories…because she ended up hitting a place on his body that was once injured by a huge beam falling on top of him in the middle of a fire. And that just made him shake. After which, he started to say some familiar words. Words that all came flooding back from the time where he almost died in that warehouse fire. The fire where he said goodbye to his beautiful wife, something that he always promised her he'd never do again. "Gabby, I want you to remember us…holding each other…" And just hearing those words snapped Gabby back to reality.

The reality where her husband was currently asleep and having some PTSD. Something that Andy just realized based on what he was hearing. And that was why he just jumped up and went to push Gabby away, as he needed her out of the way. "I love you…" She still hated the sound of those words to this day, the sound of him saying goodbye to her; yet at the same time, she also knew the true meaning behind those words, as they spoke about it when they were on their RV trip. She remembered the reason why Matt felt the need to say those words, and what he was feeling in the moment. And she also knew something else, that they were going to be talking about it all over again just as soon as he was awake with Andy's help. And that was going to be quite soon, as Andy just got onto his chest and was now licking his face; something that he always does when he needs to get Matt to wake up. And just like normal, it always seemed to work. Him licking Matt's face always seemed to wake him up from his nightmares, his PTSD nightmares.

After which, Andy yipped a bit just to make sure that he really was awake; that he was awake and okay. And that most certainly is what Matt is, he's okay as he put his hand on his dog's head. "Hey buddy. I'm okay now., I'm okay. Thank you." Matt then proceeded to rub the top of Andy's head, before kissing it while breathing. After which, Andy decided to get off him, but not off the couch as he felt a need to stay close to him; to stay on the couch, with his patient. "OK. Seems like you want to stay up here." Gabby agreed with Matt as he said that, as that most certainly seems to be the truth. "You okay baby?" Matt just took a breath, before sighing as he knew that he wasn't as he knew that the only reason that Andy would've been on his chest, would be if he had some PTSD. And that was why Matt wasn't okay, due to the fact that he just had some PTSD. PTSD that he was going to have to talk to Gabby about as he was confused. "I am so lost at the moment." Gabby agreed with her husband as he said that, clearly able to see that was the case as he laid down.

And that was due to the fact that he just had some PTSD, which always led to him feeling lost afterwards. But that didn't mean that he was going to be lost for the rest of the day, as Gabby was here to make sure that he was okay; something that was going to start with her getting close to him, as well as placing her hand on the side of his head while leaning over him. At the same time, Matt reached him and put his hand on her face whilst leaning his forehead against hers. "You okay?" Gabby agreed with her husband, as she was more than okay; the truth is, she should be the one that was asking him that question instead. "If anything, I should be the one asking you that question." Matt agreed with his wife as she said that, while letting out a sigh due to the fact that he knew that he was going to need to figure some things out. "OK. Can I at least know what my PTSD was about? I just…I see you staring at me." Gabby agreed. After all, he at least needed to know that. He needed to know what PTSD he had. Which event he was remembering.

"Warehouse."

And right then, Matt knew exactly what event he had PTSD about it. He had PTSD, even here on the couch which was something that he didn't like due to the fact that he was always worried that he would fall off the couch; or even worse, that he would fall on top of Gabby or the kids. So, that was why he decided to sit up right now as he tried to orient himself. But unfortunately, that was not really that helpful due to the fact that it just led to him feeling dizzy. "Oh." Looking at her husband as he said that, Gabby reached over onto the table and then proceeded to grab his water so that he could take a sip. "Here, just take a sip of water baby." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that, while also taking a sip of water. And let's just say that really helped, as he needed to breathe for a moment. "You okay?" Matt just bit his lip. "Uhm…" Based on that response, Gabby could clearly see that her husband was not okay. And that was due to the fact that he was still all confused. However, there was one person that was even more confused: her mother.

After all, she could clearly see her daughter and son-in-law just looking at each other with suspicious looks in their eyes, which is when she decided to just speak her mind. "Oh my god. Did you guys really just.." Gabby was surprised as she heard her mother say that, as it was not appropriate under the circumstances. After which, Gabby just looked at her loving husband as she got up and then put her hand out. "Hey, look at me okay?" Matt agreed with his wife as she said that, before deciding to get up; after all, that was what Gabby really wanted to do. That way, he could go lay down in bed and just relax ahead of her. Stepping close to him, Gabby wrapped her arms around him and just kissed his chest softly. After which, Matt moved his hands to either side of her face and bent down to kiss his beautiful wife softly. "I love you." Gabby agreed with Matt, well aware that was the case. "I love you too, forever." Matt agreed with his wife as she said that, taking a breath. "Here, let me take the boys." Gabby shook her head. "Bed." Matt agreed, nodding.

After which, he looked down at Andy. "C'mon Andy, let's get you a treat for being a good boy." Andy agreed with Matt, while walking away to his bed where he was going to stay and just try and relax; meanwhile, Gabby turned to look at her mother. "Are you serious?" Camila laughed as she heard her daughter said that. "Gabby, I was making a joke. He looked out of…" Gabby then proceeded to interrupt her mother, so that she could tell her what was going on. "He just had PTSD." And just like that, Camila shut up right away, because the last thing she wanted to do was make Gabby mad. Not when she needs to be calm and relaxed for the sake of her husband. "Oh." Gabby agreed with her mom as she said that. "You, stay here. I am going to check on Matt. Then, I am going to see what he wants to do when it comes to the kids." Camila just agreed with her daughter as she said that, while also watching as she proceeded to grab Matt's water bottle. She then proceeded to walk away to her and Matt's bedroom where she can talk to him.

He was still trying to figure out just what happened, as he sat here in bed with Andy on here; the two of them spending a bit of time with each other as Matt breathed with his help. With his head in his lap, he was able to rub his dog's head as he cuddled up to him and just took some deep breaths after his PTSD. The PTSD about the warehouse fire where he said goodbye to Gabby. And the truth was, he hasn't thought about that fire in such a long time, that he truly was surprised when it came down to it; that he even thought about it in the first place. And that was why Matt felt like he needed to take something now, which is why he was about to get up out of bed; that was until Gabby stopped him. "Hey, no. Where are you going?" Looking at his wife as she walked in and closed the door, Matt was confused but decided to just answer her question rather than say anything else. "I think I need some medication." Gabby agreed with her husband as he said that, well aware that was the case. "OK. Do you want me to get it for you?" Matt was still a bit out of it.

I mean, he should be able to get it for himself. "No, I can…" Gabby then proceeded to interrupt her husband, before telling him that there was no other choice. "Let me rephrase that, I am going to get your medication for you so that you can take it." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that, while watching her walk away. "Did I hurt you? Is that why you're…" Turning her head to look at her husband, Gabby proceeded to shake her head as she was okay. "God, no baby. You didn't hurt me. I promise, I'm fine." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that, clearly able to see that was the case based on how she was talking to him. "I can tell that's the case, as you still have all that sass that you love to give me." Gabby agreed with her husband as he said that, as that was the truth. "Listen, grab your iPad and open your breathing app. I want you to do some breathing for me." Matt agreed with his wife as he did just that, he grabbed his iPad and opened it so that he going do some breathing for his wife. Meanwhile, Gabby walked into the bathroom.

That way, she could get her husband's medicine for his PTSD; medicine that he clearly needs at the moment, due to the fact that he just PTSD. But what he most certainly did not need, was someone else walking into the room. "You okay Matt?" Turning his head, Matt was about to say something. "Mom, not right now. He's not ready. Please just go take care of the kids for me. I am not in the mood." Camila could clearly hear that her daughter was mad at her, which was understandable because of what she asked them. "Listen, how about this. I am going to just set supper down here on your dresser, then I am going to take care of the kids for you." Gabby just sighed. "Mother, just leave them out in the living room; okay? Oh, maybe get Matteo and Noah some baby food and feed it to them while I take care of Matt." Camila agreed with her daughter as she said that, before proceeding to leave her and Matt's bedroom so that she can give them some time. Time where they can just be together for a moment, which was really appreciated.

Meanwhile, Matt decided to speak to his wife. "Looks like we're both going to need to breathe when you get in bed with me." Gabby agreed with her husband, as that most certainly is the truth. They are both going to need to breathe, and just relax with each other in bed. "You want me to put my sweats on, rather than stay in boxers?" Gabby agreed with her husband, as she liked that idea. "Please." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that, before deciding to get up and moving to put his sweats on so that they could just relax.

Coming out of her and Matt's private space in their room after getting him some water and getting dressed, Gabby took a breath as she looked at her mother due to the fact that she needed to apologize. She needed to apologize for snapping at her, which is something that she feels awful about. She hates snapping at her mother, especially when she does so much for them; and she just hopes that she can accept her apology. "Mom?" Turning to look at her daughter, Camila smiled due to the fact that it seemed like she was a bit more relaxed. "Mija, is everything okay?" Gabby took a breath. "Uhm. Not yet. We uhm…" Camila then understood right away what her daughter was trying to tell her. She and Matt needed time to talk, which is something that she could also tell by the fact that she was wearing sweats; a classic tell for when she and her husband need to talk. "You need to talk?" Gabby agreed with her mom as she walked over to her, as she felt like she needed a hug at the moment. And that was something that concerned Camila.

So much so, that she decided to ask her daughter about it. "Are you okay Mija? Did you and Matt get into a fight?" Gabby shook her head. "No. No. We're fine. It's just…it came out of the blue, and he's been so good for a while. But this PTSD was different, as he was just so out of it after he had the event. It was like he was so lost when he came to." Camila felt horrible as she heard her daughter say that, as that most certainly was not something that she wanted to hear. To hear that her son-in-law felt lost after he came to after his PTSD, that was never something that she wanted to hear. "Oh dear." Gabby agreed with her mom as she said that. "Listen, I am going to have to talk to Matt about this. But I know for now…" Camila already knew what her daughter and her husband needed. They needed a moment to talk as they had supper together. "You need a minute to talk, while you eat supper together in bed?" Gabby let out a sigh, as that was exactly what they needed right now, preferably without the presence of their children.

"Preferably with the kids out here?"

Camila nodded as Gabby asked her (indirectly) if she could watch the kids out here, as that was something that she most certainly can do for her. She can let her speak to her husband in private, as they figure out what happened during his PTSD event; it's something that she's done in the past and she knows that it does wonders for Matthew and his PTSD. "I know that me doing this always does wonders for Matt and his PTSD. Please, take however long you need and don't feel like you need to rush. I can take care of everything." Gabby agreed with her mom. "We already changed the kids; they are all good for now. And they are in new PJs. Can you feed them maybe? I think they're due." Camila agreed with her daughter, as that was something that the grandmother could most certainly do for her daughter and son-in-law. "Gabby, I got it from here. Just go in there in take care of Matt." Gabby agreed, before going to hug her mom. "Thanks mom, I appreciate this." Camila agreed with her daughter, before leaning back and looking at her.

After all, her daughter needs to know something. And that would be that she will always be here for her. "Gabby, I will always be here for you no matter what the two of you need. If you guys need time to talk, then I will always be here to give you time to talk. I honestly believe that this is going to work out for the better. Maybe things not working out between me, and your father was the sign that I needed, to tell me that I really need to be here as much as I can." Gabby agreed with her mother as she said that, as that most certainly is something that she loves the sound of. " I love the sound of that. Now listen, I am going to go talk to Matt and make sure that he's okay." Camila agreed with her daughter as she said that, letting her go so that she can make her way into her and Matt's room where they would eat supper as they talked about the PTSD that he just dealt with; meanwhile, she was going to sit out here and spend some quality time with her grandchildren. The grandchildren that she loves more than anything.

If her husband wasn't in bed, then there was only one place where he could be at the moment; and that would be in their bathroom where he was currently talking on the phone. "So, it's okay for me to take an extra dose right whenever I have PTSD?" On the other end of the phone, his doctor spoke to him. "Yes, and that was why I gave you such a big refill. I could tell that you would need it." Matt agreed with his doctor as he said that, glad that was the case due to the fact that he felt like he needed another dose. "Thanks. I just had a bad day today." His doctor agreed when he said that, due to the fact that a lot of his patients have been feeling this way. "A lot of my patients have been having a bit of extra problems with the start of the pandemic, and I made sure to tell the pharmacies to give them a bit of extra medicine; I did the same for you Matt, so you can go ahead and take them as you think that you need it. Just make sure that you moderate. And don't abuse it." Matt agreed with his doctor as he said that. "I promise." The doctor agreed with Matt.

"I hope you have a good night Matt. Feel better."

Matt agreed with his doctor, before proceeding to hang up. After which, he set his phone down before going to grab his medication; but before he could take one, Gabby spoke to him. "Was that your doctor on his emergency line?" Jumping a bit, Matt turned to look at his wife. "Shit, you scared me baby." Gabby agreed with her husband. "Right, sorry." Matt nodded, well aware that was the case. "So, was it?" Matt nodded. "Just wanted to make sure that it was okay for me to take an extra dose." Gabby agreed with her husband as he said that, while getting close to him; she then wrapped her arms around him as they both held each other close. "Can you just give me a minute before I hug you?" Gabby agreed, letting him go for a moment as she watched Matt put one of capsules in his hand; after which, he put it in his mouth so that he could try and calm down. He then went ahead and closed the bottle before putting it away. He then turned his head and looked at Gabby, moving his hand to her neck. "OK. Now I can talk." Gabby agreed with Matt.

She then looked up at the man she loves, before kissing him softly. "So, you okay?" Matt took a breath. "Not really." Gabby was confused as she heard her husband say that. "Gabby, you know that I hate taking extra medicine." Gabby understood when Matt said that, as she knew that was the case. "Baby, we both know that it was the right thing to do. If you felt like you needed to take extra medicine, then you should." Matt agreed with his wife as she said that, before grabbing her hand and intertwining their fingers; stroking her hand, Matt smiled due to the fact that he was glad that she was here with him. "I'm glad that you're here with me to help me." Gabby agreed with her husband as he said that, well aware that was the case. "Matt, promise me that you don't call your doctor to ask if you can take extra medicine; please just do it for your own sake." Matt agreed with Gabby as she said that, kissing her forehead. After all, she truly is the best wife in the entire world; and he just feels incredibly lucky to have her as his wife.

Something that Gabby already knew. She knew that Matt feels lucky to have her as his wife, based on the way that he looks at her. She then got close to her husband and wrapped her arms around him, while laying her head down on his chest. At the same time, Matt wrapped his arms around her and kissed her forehead softly. "I love you." Gabby agreed with her husband as he said that, looking up at the man of her dreams. After which, he moved his hand to the side of her face and bent down so that he could kiss her softly. Taking things nice and slow with the woman whom he loves more than anything in the entire world, Matt smirked due to the fact that this really is exactly what he wants to do right now. He wants to take things nice and slow with his wife, as they both held each other close. "I'm glad that you were able to take some more medicine." Matt agreed with his wife as she said that, as he felt the same way while stroking her cheek. "I feel the same way, as it was exactly what I needed." Gabby nodded, as she felt the same way as her husband.

But she also felt like they needed to do something else, which is lay down in bed as they both held each other close. "You want to go lay down in bed?" Gabby agreed with her husband as he said that, as that most certainly is exactly what she wanted to do. She wanted to sit in bed with the man she loves, as they had supper on his birthday. "C'mon, let's go have supper then we can just hold each other and relax." Matt agreed with his wife as she said that, while making his way out of the bathroom with her so that they can eat supper.
