Chapter 28

Since we're still in Fuchsia City, we decide to go to the Safari Zone. When we notice a bunch of Tauros, I wanted to capture one. But we're stopped by a girl riding a Ponyta.

"This is the Laramie Ranch, where we preserve wild Pokemon. My name is Lara Laramie." The girl says.

After introducing herself, Misty asks, "Isn't it real hot to ride on a Ponyta?"

"I'm not going to worry because Ponyta won't burn anyone who he really trusts." Lara replies.

"That's nice." I try to touch Ponyta, but it immediately burns my hand and I have Wartortle cool it off with the water.

Then we also meet a Dodrio trainer named Dario, who is arrogant and treated them badly. At night, he works with Team Rocket to let her lose, so they throw a Flashbomb, and then the normal Ponyta is scared, causing Lara to fall off and break her arm. Serena is the one who calms the Ponyta down while we rush to Lara.

"Are you alright?" I ask her.

"No...I broke my arm..." Lara curses as she can't attend the race, but when she sees how Serena is handling the Ponyta, she says, "You're good at this."

"My Mom used to be the famous Rhyhorn Racer, so it is easy for me." Serena says.

After getting Lara treated, she mutters, "With my arm like this, I couldn't even partake in the race..."

"Too bad for the Laramie clan..." Yellow frowns.

"I know, how about you ride Ponyta for me, Serena?" This causes her to be surprised. "Me? But won't Ponyta burn me?"

"I'm sure you can do it, please give it a try." Lara says.

Then we help Serena bond with the Ponyta so that she can prepare for the race. I also decide to attend the race so that Serena will be safe with the Ponyta.

At the race, many pairs have entered, and we go through a lot of obstacles, even Team Rocket tries to set up traps to make competitors fail, but they are blasted off again. I ride on my Arcanine, but I decide to give it up when Team Rocket attacks so that Serena can continue the race.

Serena and Dario are the ones in front and Ponyta evolves to give Serena the win. Dario is angry that he lost and tries to attack her with Dodrio, but Rapidash kicks him away and sends him flying.

After we give the cup to Lara since it's her Rapidash that won the race, we bid farewell and continue heading towards the Safari Zone.

While we're still moving, we find a fisherman, who turns out to be the brother of the one that we met in Vermilion City. "I simply like Fishing, and I can't bear to go without doing so. Tell me, do you like to fish?"

"Of course." I say, and much to our delight, we get a Good Rod in the end, which means we can use it to capture new Pokemon. So we decide to get to the pond and find some new Water Types for us to capture.

When we arrive at the pond, Serena fishes out a Poliwag, and she uses Doduo to battle it. Doduo evolves into Dodrio and paralyzes the Poliwag with the Tri Attack, and Serena uses the chance to capture it.

Dodrio: The Triple Bird Pokemon: Normal and Flying Type. Evolve from Dodrio at LV:31. Uses its three brains to execute complex plans. While two heads sleep, one head stays awake.

Poliwag: The Tadpole Pokemon: Water Type. Its newly grown legs prevent it from running. It appears to prefer swimming than trying to stand.

"You're not the only one who got a Poliwag." Misty smiles as she also hugs her own Poliwag. I say, "Good for you."

Then we decide to train the Poliwag until it evolves into Poliwhirl, and by using the Water Stone, we evolve it into a Poliwrath.

Poliwhirl: The Tadpole Pokemon: Water Type. Evolved from Poliwag at LV:25. Capable of living in or out of water. When out of water, it sweats to keep its body slimy.

Poliwrath: The Tadpole Pokemon: Water and Fighting Type. Evolved from Poliwhirl with a Water Stone. An adept swimmer at both the front crawl and breast stroke. Easily overtakes the best human swimmers.

As for me, instead of getting a Poliwag, I got a Goldeen, I don't mind if it can't battle above water, so I also capture it.

Goldeen: The Goldfish Pokemon: Water Type. Its tail fin billows like an elegant ballroom dress, giving it the nickname of the Water Queen.

When we arrive at the Pokemon Preservation area, where it's illegal to catch Pokemon, we met a Ranger Jenny in a Chansey Hat. She told us that there are more poachers in the area, so we decided to help her by revealing our status. Then we find Team Rocket trying to capture a group of Kangaskhan, they trapped all the Kangaskhan in the net.

But then, we see a boy yells and swings on the vine, he cuts the net with his boomerang and sets them boy orders the Kangaskhan to attack Team Rocket. They are quickly surrounded and receive several tail whips before the final spinning blow is dealt and they are sent blasting off. The kid jumps into the pouch of the biggest Kangaskhan, and after his command, the entire herd walks away.

"Wow, he is really impressive." Insey says.

Suddenly, a helicopter lands, and two adults come out, saying they heard a report of their missing child in the area. We learn that the boy before is the son of the two adults. They accidentally dropped their son into the forest below. They managed to locate Tommy's parachute, though their search for their son was in vain. Since the picture they have matched with the boy, we decide to offer assistance to find him.

On our way, we spot an abandoned, injured infant Kangaskhan.

"Are you alright?" I ask the infant and then use my powers to heal him. After that, the infant tells me "I want my mommy..."

"Are you lost? We will help you find your mother." I say as we take turns carrying the infant. When we cross paths with Tomo and the Kangaskhan, Tommy demands, "Who are you and what did you do to him?"

"Wait, we didn't hurt him, he was injured and we healed him, then he wants to find his mother and we take him here." Serena says.

As the baby Kangaskhan says the same thing, Tomo then puts down his boomerang. Then his parents approach and ask if he remembers them, but all he says is that Kangaskhan is his family. We decide to help him remember, and he seems to remember his mother but not the father, and Team Rocket is attacking again with the giant robot machine.

After we try to help, in the end, Tommy's parents crash the helicopter into the machine and cause it to explode, fortunately, they survived and they decide to live with Tommy in the wild with Kangaskhan.

After a while, we finally arrive at the Safari Zone, but we are stopped by the warden, and he's pointing a gun at us. "Can we just do it peacefully, we just want to play the Safari Game."

The warden lowers the gun and says, "My name is Kaiser, the warden here at the Safari Zone."

Then we enter the gate and he prepares 30 Safari Balls for me and Serena since we're the only ones who want to play the Safari Game. But just before we can get them, Kaiser says, "I'll say this right at the beginning: These Safari Balls are the only things you can use in the Safari Zone. No Pokemon battling is allowed inside. If you disobey the rules, let's say you're not getting out of here safely.

We don't want to bother the man, and Misty notices the picture of Dratini and the younger Kaiser, he quickly takes the picture and yells, "There are no Dratini's in the Safari Zone!"

It seems that Kaiser doesn't want us to capture the Dratini, so we decide to ask Professor Oak if he knows something. He says, "I know Kaiser very well. The one who discovered the Dratini in the Safari Zone nearly thirty years ago was Kaiser. Since then, trainers who had heard rumors about it suddenly started intruding and got every Pokemon they could find. As a result, the Safari Zone ended up completely wrecked. And that's why your mother set up the rule of the Safari Zone that no Pokemon battles are allowed and you could only use the Safari Balls.

"And what happened to the Dratini?" Yellow asks.

"Who knows, no one was ever able to find it." Professor Oak says.

Then after we ended the call, Team Rocket appeared, but Kaiser is already shooting guns at them, causing them to fall to the ground. They want to make a bet to see who gets the most Pokemon. If they win, we're going to hand the Pokemon to them. If they lose, they will try not to bother us. Obviously, it's a lie, but if they want to bother us again, we just need to send them flying. After all, it is only the 70th time they bother us and 930 times more before we can kill them.

Just as we enter, we immediately go for Tauros since they are charging in front of us, and we manage to capture 2 Tauros in an instant.

"They are really easy." I say. Serena says, "Yeah, we got the Tauros."

Then we continue forward until we find a Rhyhorn. Insey says, "Wow, there is a Rhyhorn!"

"Rhyhorn..." Serena freezes a little, and just then, a bunch of Rhyhorn appears and starts to lick Serena, much to her annoyance. "Well, that happens again..." I sigh.

Misty says, "What's going on?"

"Serena has a charm for Rhyhorn, I don't know how, but when we get close to Rhyhorn, they would all be attracted and rushes to her without any second thoughts."

"It's not funny..." Serena mutters as one of the balls dropped to the ground, and it sucked the Rhyhorn inside. I try to help Serena by throwing 3 of the Safari Balls, but a herd of Tauros charge in front of me, and three of the balls capture three Tauros.

"What the... I ended up getting three Tauros..." I mutter with shock.

After saving Serena by capturing 7 more Rhyhorn, Serena sighs, "Looks like I have to send those Rhyhorn to my Mom to see if any Rhyhorn Racing authorities want them..."

Then we continue to capture more Pokemon, and this time we spot a Scyther and a Pinsir, and we try to Pokeballs at them, but much to our dismay, other than the two Pokemon we got, we also got more Tauros. They seem to like to run in front of us.

Then we also got Exeggcute and Chansey along with more Tauros, we also spot Kangaskhan, who seems to recognize Pikachu. Pikachu is also happy to see that specific Kangaskhan and hugs him.

"You know this Kangaskhan? Pikachu?" I ask, and he reveals that he used to stay with this Kangaskhan and the baby before meeting us. After Pikachu's persuading, we also captured the Kangaskhan, along with more Tauros. The Kangaskhan also picks up something for us, and we notice that it is teeth made of gold.

"What is a Gold Teeth doing here?" Misty asks.

"I don't know, maybe someone dropped them there?" I say while picking the teeth up.

We also find a house nearby and enter, only to find an HM Disc on the table. Serena gasps, "It's HM for Surf! With this, we can surf on the waters with our Pokemon!"

"You're right. That's really great." I say as we keep the HM to ourselves.

Now we're nearby the lake, and we found Kaiser being attached to a machine. I have Meowsie use Shadow Claw, breaking the machine.

"Team Rocket is trying to get the Dratini." Kaiser says.

"But didn't you say there aren't any Dratini around the area?" Brock asks.

"No, there are Dratini around the area. Those idiots decide to put an Electric Bomb into the lake to zap all the Pokémon in the water and cause them to rise to the surface. I jump into the water to stop the bomb, but in the end, I was out of breath.

"Damn it... if only I have the Splash Plate with me..." I mutter before I close my eyes while hugging the bomb, I was then saved by a Dragonair, who got me out of the lake.

"A Dragonair!" Insey gasps in shock. I smirk and throw the bomb at them. "Hey, Team Rocket! Take this!"

The bomb explodes just when they catch the bomb, sending them flying again. "Dragonair...is that you?" Kaiser is surprised to see his old friend, then they share a hug for the reunion, then Dragonair also shares about their child, which is also a Dragonair, to him. "Thank you, for saving the Pokemon from those thieves."

"No problem." I say, and we notice that we still have one Safari Ball left, and much to our surprise, Dragonair goes into the Safari Ball and is captured.

"What...but Mr. Kaiser..." Ash says.

Kaiser says, "It's fine. She did save you for a reason after all."

Then after we get back to the center, it seems that we have 30 Tauros, 8 Rhyhorn, a Kangaskhan, a Chansey, an Exeggcute that we decide to evolve using a Leaf Stone, a Scyther, a Pinsir, and a Dragonair. All of them become our Pokemon.

Exeggcute: The Egg Pokemon: Grass and Psychic Type. Often mistaken for eggs. When disturbed, they quickly gather and attack in swarms.

Exeggutor: The Coconut Pokemon: Grass and Psychic Type. Evolved from Exeggcute with a Leaf Stone. Legend has it that on rare occasions, one of its heads will drop off and continue on as an Exeggcute.

Rhyhorn: The Spikes Pokémon: Ground and Rock Type. Its massive bones are 1000 times harder than human bones. It can easily knock a trailer flying.

Chansey: The Egg Pokemon: Normal Type. Evolved from Happiny with an Oval Stone. A rare and elusive Pokémon that is said to bring happiness to those who manage to get it.

Kangaskhan: The Parent Pokemon: Normal Type. The infant rarely ventures out of its mother's protective pouch until it is 3 years old.

Scyther: The Mantis Pokemon: Bug and Flying Type. With ninja-like agility and speed, it can create the illusion that there is more than one.

Pinsir: The Stag Beetle Pokemon: Bug Type. If it fails to crush the victim in its pincers, it will swing it around and toss it hard.

Tauros: The Wild Bull Pokemon: Normal Type. When it targets an enemy, it charges furiously while whipping its body with its long tails.

Dratini: The Dragon Pokemon: Dragon Type. Long considered a mythical Pokémon until recently when a small colony was found living underwater.

Dragonair: The Dragon Pokemon: Dragon Type. Evolved from Dratini at LV:30. A mystical Pokémon that exudes a gentle aura. Has the ability to change climate conditions.

We contact Serena's mother Grace, and she agrees to help us with the 7 other Rhyhorn, as for the 29 Tauros, I decide to leave them in our Sevestar home. Then we all bid farewell to Kaiser and leave the Safari Zone. Before we leave the city, we also find the man who lost his teeth named Baoba. Serena is the one giving to him, and he says, "Thank you, lassie! You're a real lifesaver! No one could understand a word that I said, not a one! I was too ashamed to show my face around the Office, even. Let me give you something for your trouble."

Then he gives us the HM for Strength, which is capable of moving boulders outside of battle. And after that's done, we all leave the city and head back to Saffron for my sixth badge.
