OK Guys this is kind of the moment of truth chapter the moment where both the Turtles' and Enna's hearts will be tested

So after Casey got back with the list of foods the Turtles asked for, the rest of the afternoon was spent cooking what needed to be cooked and then packing everything into a picnic basket.

Jonathan came back exactly when he said he would, in one hour, he came back to find Enna napping on the sofa, she had so little energy that she kind of just...Chrashed while he was gone. Jonathan felt a wave of tenderness seeing the Otter-Child curled up on the sofa, he woke her up they had a quick meal of another TV Dinner, Scarecrow finally said "Because of last night's...Unexpected intrusion...I had to drop...Not literally drop...Put down the chemicals I had found in order to deal with that...We have to go somewhere else for chemicals...Are you ready to accompany me for another excursion? This time we shall be sticking to the country."

"OK." Enna said "I'm ready to go anywhere and everywhere."

They drove out to what looked like an abadoned farm, the barn's red paint was peeling off...They got out of the truck.

"Hidden in that barn is a tresure trove of the chemicals I need..." Jonathan said, he was dressed in his Scarecrow costume, Enna was in her Autumn Jester costume. They had parked in the former pasture.

"Now..." Jonathan said "...This place is pretty far and out of the way, if you feel the need to stretch your legs, feel free to walk around, just...Keep in close sight of the truck.

"Okey dokey." Enna said

Scarecrow simply nodded and went to the barn.

Enna quietly walked around in the yellowing grass, she really preferred the country to the city, the city reminded her too much of the Lab, with all the chemical and metalic smells, as she stretched her long otter body, she caught a familiar scent coming from a nearby grove of trees.

"I can smell you guys..." She said "...I do want to talk to you, but you got to be quick the Professor will come back soon."

The Turtles dropped from the trees and approached

"We're amazed you still want to talk with us." Don said "After what happened last night..."

"I know before the Professor showed up, you guys were nice." Enna said "I want to tell you guys that he's just misunderstood!"

"Hey Enna..." Mikey said as he kneeled down to get to eye level with her "What uh...What did they feed you in the lab?"

Enna was caught off guard buy this question. "Well...They fed us nice human food in the beginning..." She said "...And in particular they would sometimes use candies to bribe us when they wanted to give us a physical or something like that..."

Leo and Don exchanged concerned glances.

"...But then when the new people came in, the food got worse." Enna said "Really gross school cafeteria food, lots of gross canned vegetables and stuff like that."

"Ooh!" Mikey said sympathetically "...I feel like I'm gonna barf just thinking about it! You ever have any Japanese food?"

Enna shook her head

Mikey reached into the picnic basket "Try this," He said "It's called an onigiri, sometimes English speakers just call it a Riceball."

Enna sniffed it, certainly didn't smell drugged, she took a bite...Immediatly she tasted the familiar flavor of tuna salad but this time it was so much better!

"Wow!" She exclaimed as she devoured it in two more bites "It's like a tuna sandwich only with rice instead of bread! Somehow that makes it better!"

The Turtles chuckled at her enthusasm

"We got lots of different riceballs..." Mikey said "...Along with some other treats...We'll let you have more if you'll just listen to us for one moment..."

Don took out a little handheld TV, he had made a little clip of a recording of Scarecrow's last misadventure.

"Watch this..." Don said "...This is what Scarecrow did last month before he escaped from Arkham."

It was a news report, Summer Gleeson was showing Scarecrow being taken away in handcuffs as she said "Scarecrow's latest attempt at a terrorist attack would have potentially destroyed America, when the Beat Brothers would have been playing the hijacked broadcast would have sent out a frequency that amplifies the human fear response! The result would have been mass panic and riots across America!"

Enna felt her breath catch in her throat has she listened to this! This kind of thing she was not OK with! This wasn't fighting against evil to help the less fortunate, this was...Killing everybody indiscriminately!

"You see that?" Leo said as he kneeled down beside her "Scarecrow only wants you for your mind trap, so he can continue to do things like this!"

As Scarecrow emerged from the barn he saw the familiar green shapes around Enna! His heart skipped a beat, once again he put down his vials of chemicals and ran over!

"ENNA!" He yelled

And Enna turned around and hissed "YOU TRICKED ME!"

That threw Jonathan back!

"They showed me what you did!" Enna said with a fire in her eyes Jonathan had never seen before "You just want me to scare people!"

Jonathan terrified beyond belief was backing away, the Turtles grinned seeing the terror in his eyes "N-Now Enna..." He said "...Let's not do something we'll regret..."

But it was already too late with an Otter Screech Enna's eyes flared with color as she cast her mind trap and Jonathan fainted to the ground!

The Turtles whooped and cheered and congradulated Enna...But Enna still watching the Scarecrow, noticed something she didn't see before in anyone she put in a mind trap his arms and legs were twitching, normally they were completely still when in a mind trap, she walked over to him, and pulled his mask off, his face was twitching, grimmacing...Were those tears, forming in his closed eyes?

She had never seen this kind of reaction from her mind traps! And despite everything she felt...Pity...

"Come on Enna..." Leo said "...Let's get you out of here..."

"No." Enna said

"NO?!" Leo couldn't believe after what just happened

"I've never seen anyone do this when I mind trap them..." Enna said "...Normally they're as still as stone, but look at him...I think...He might be sick! He might die if I just leave him here!"

"I'd say good riddence." Raph said

"He may be a horrible person." Enna said as she tried to grab ahold of the skinny beanpole's torso "...But I know he still cared for me..."

And despite him being twice as long as he she began trying to carry him, dragging him back to the house.

"You can't really believe that!" Leo protested "That he actually cared for you! He was just pretending! Playing nice because he wanted you..." But then he saw Enna's eyes and he knew this time it was different, it wasn't like Karai with the Shredder

"No..." He said "...This time it really is different, he really did care for you..."

So this is the test of the heart, being willing to take a chance to show some mercy to someone you know is pretty reprehensible but pert of the lesson is realizing most of the Arkham Rogues barring those like the Joker are more nuanced then the Shredder, that there problem is they are genuinly mentally ill, also there is some similarity to Lord of the Rings with this idea of mercy
