Disclaimer: I own nothing of the Dc Universe
He was going to die and there was nothing he could do to stop it.
All Abilo could focus on was the parademon's hand descending upon him. All his plans and hopes for the future were going to be snuffed out in one motion before he could finish one of them. He closed his eyes as the parademon's hand was about to reach him. He didn't want his last thoughts to be an image of his killer's face.
Suddenly, instead of the feeling of having his face smashed in, he felt a strange sensation, as if he was being bathed in a warm, comforting light and lifted off the ground into a warm bed.
He didn't dare open his eyes, not wanting to see what fresh hell he was about to endure, yet the warming light didn't go away. He wondered if his current feelings are what people experience when they die. If so, it wasn't a bad thing to have when your life is ended by a alien being.
Yet as the time passed, he didn't feel any different, so he slowly opened his eyes to his surroundings.
His first thought was he had gone insane or arrived in some strange version of hell.
The sky above him was a deep shade of reddish yellow, and the ground beneath his feet was made of a shimmering white substance that glowed in the dim light. The air was thick with a mist that shimmered in the light of a thousand stars, and he could feel a strange energy pulsing through the very air he breathed.
As he gazed around in wonder, his eyes fell on a platform in the distance. It appeared to be floating in mid-air, with no visible means of support. Abilo's heart raced as he realized he was standing on a similar platform. He took a few steps forward, and to his horror, realized he was correct, he was on some sort of platform where the ground beneath him was not visible, hidden by a thick yellowish mist.
Despite his bizarre surroundings he couldn't help but feel amazed, years in a comic book universe still hadn't prepared him for the wonders it had in store.
His sense of awe and wonder gave way to fear as he realized the gravity-defying properties of this place. He was suspended in mid-air, with no visible means of support. Abilo's body trembled as he looked down into the seemingly infinite abyss below him, and he felt a sense of vertigo creeping over him.
He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. As he did so, he noticed movement in the distance heading straight for him. As it got closer it became apparent it was a human, moving slowly towards him.
Soon it was a few feet in front of him floating in the air and it became impossible not to notice the details.
The figure was male, tall, and imposing, with a regal bearing that demanded respect. He wore a suit of gleaming gold armor that shone in the dim light, and a cape that fluttered despite there being no wind. The most noticeable detail was the gold helmet and glowing gold-colored eyes that filled the eyeholes.
Abilo could feel the power emanating from the figure, and he knew that this was someone to be feared.
It was a Lord of Order.
Abilo only had a passing understanding of the lords of order. The magical side of the dc universe had never really been a storyline he had been interested in reading, in hindsight he should have considering the importance of magic. His first question of why Abilo was before him was immediately answered by only two possible answers.
The first was they had no idea who Abilo really was and wanted answers.
The second answer was it was the lords of order that brought him to this universe.
Neither answer was good in his opinion, while the lords were technically on the same side as the justice league most of the time, it was only because their foes, the lords of chaos, were evil.
The only lord of order he knew was doctor fate and he becomes activite by using a person as a meat suit. He couldn't imagine what it was like to be a prisoner in your own body.
"You have been brought here for a purpose," the being said. "You have been given a chance few mortals before you have obtained and so far, we are displeased with your performance."
Well, that answered his previous question.
He finally knew who was responsible for his new life and they did it for a reason. It was good to know but worrying as he doubted the Lords of Order did it out of the kindness of their hearts. They wanted something from him and Abilo didn't believe refusal was an option.
He really didn't like how the man just started talking down to him. Who starts a conversation like that with someone?
As much as he would like to talk back to them it was better to have some restraint in dealing with all powerful supernatural beings.
Luckily, he had experience in dealing with people who wanted results without giving him the tools to do anything.
"I'm sorry I haven't been up to your expectations. But I'm not aware of my purpose here or your influence."
The Lord of Order regarded Abilo with a solemn expression, and then gestured to Abilo's left. A gold circle appeared and inside the circle like a tv Abilo could make out images of a bustling city.
"What is this place?" Abilo asked.
The figure said. "A world where people have learned to work together and create an orderly society."
Abilo watched in amazement as people of different races, nationalities, and religions worked side by side to build towering skyscrapers, clean energy sources, and efficient transportation systems. He saw communities where people cared for one another, and everyone had access to food, shelter, and healthcare.
Abilo couldn't help but feel warm inside. The images looked beautiful and inspiring enough to make him want to live in that city.
"For the longest time," the Lord said, his voice low and grave, "we thought that humans could be orderly on their own. We believed that they possessed the wisdom and discipline to create a harmonious society, one that would reflect the divine order of the universe."
Abilo nodded, his brow furrowing. "And yet," he said, "we have proved you wrong."
Abilo was no idealist, thinking every person out in the world was a flower only needing sunlight to bloom. He had always been a firm believer that humans were for the most part good if their own well-being was in good standing. But when survival and self-interest came into the picture then their only priority was themselves and their own.
The images changed to display war, death, crime, homeless people being ignored by nearly walkers, the images continued, showing the worst of humanity.
"Yes," the Lord said, his eyes flashing with an otherworldly light and the images disappearing with a wave of his hand. "Their history is a testament to chaos and disorder. They have waged wars, committed atrocities, and destroyed the very planet on which they live. They have shown themselves to be incapable of governing themselves, of creating a world that is just and harmonious."
"Is that why you brought me here, Lord?" Abilo asked, his voice filled with concern. Abilo was already planning to obtain power for himself and rule the world but having the support of the lords of order would be a massive boom.
On the other hand, they were the lords of order, not lords of good.
"That is correct," the Lord said, "You must guide them towards the path of order, of discipline, of wisdom. You must show them the way and do so with a firm hand."
Abilo nodded, his eyes alight with understanding.
A thought occurred to him. If he played his cards right, he could walk away with a bonus.
"I understand, Lord," he said, his voice ringing with conviction. "I will do everything in my power to help guide humanity towards the light of order and wisdom."
The Lord of Order nodded, seemingly pleased with Abilo's words.
"But I have only the knowledge of this world, it isn't enough, I would like to request the Lords of Order grant me superpowers such as the those given to Shazam or Black Adam. Knowledge doesn't mean anything if you don't have the power to do something with it."
The lord didn't respond, just floating there.
Suddenly Abilo felt intense pressure on his back forcing him to the floor. The air felt hot and oppressive and there was such an intense glow from all directions he closed his eyes to protect them.
"Your intentions are not hidden from us. We have allowed you to retain your knowledge and mind."
Every word felt like it was craved into his brain. Despite the pain Abilo pressed forward.
"And yet I was seconds from being killed before you grabbed me. If you send me back now, I will die, and you will have to start over again. I have knowledge but I need power as well."
The lord didn't respond to Abilo's words, and he didn't reduce the oppressive environment on Abilo at all.
"Your words have merit. You will be granted power enough to survive the initial threats you will face but understand this. We will give you twenty years to establish order on earth and if you fail to meet our standards you will suffer the consequences. Do you agree to these terms?"
By the end of the lord's speech the pain had become unbearable and Abilo at that moment would have agreed to anything to make it stop.
"Yes, I agree" he nearly shouted in a panic.
His painful surroundings almost at once vanished and returned to their previous state.
Abilo spent a little while regaining his breath then stood back on his feet. He wiped the sweat from his forehead and looked back on the lord completely unmoved from his previous position.
The Lord of Order simply nodded, then put his hands together and pulled them apart with a gold ball of light between them "Go then, Abilo," he said. "Go forth and carry out our will. May order guide your steps, and may you bring order to the chaos of the world."
With those words, the Lord of Order vanished into thin air, leaving Abilo alone in the surreal landscape, the gold ball remaining where it was first created. Abilo felt a sense of dread wash over him.
Was he going to have to find his own way out?
Suddenly the gold ball rushed forward and struck Abilo in the chest so hard he was thrown back onto the floor.
It felt like a million tiny needles pierced every inch of his body.
As he laid there, writhing in pain, he could feel an intense heat coursing through him, starting in his chest and expanding until he could feel it everywhere in his body. As it went Abilo could feel his entire body change into something new, a strange and powerful sensation that both terrified and exhilarated me.
Then the feeling vanished.
Slowly, he began to stand up, feeling stronger and more powerful than he ever had before. He looked down and examined himself, surprised at what he saw, his muscles bulged with newfound strength, his senses were sharper than ever, and his mind felt clear and focused. He was wearing some outfit the color of gold.
He had always tried to stay fit in his old body, but he looked and felt like he could compete in the Olympics.
He was no longer just a man; he was something more. Something superhuman, even godlike.
As he looked at his gold-skinned body he couldn't help but feel a scene of complete euphoria. After years of being stuck in a child's body he was finally in an adult body again, not only that it was a superpowered body.
He laughed loudly and warmly even as a golden doorway appeared in front of him. Once he settled down, he investigated the doorway which showed a first-person view of the parademon he can been moments from being killed by earlier. He could tell by the classroom background and the bodies of his classmates lying on the floor.
Abilo's heart was pounding with trepidation. There it was, the very same parademon that had almost claimed his life just moments ago. The beast was hulking and menacing, its sharp talons glinting in the dim light. Abilo's new super body was an impressive upgrade from his mortal form, but he had never been in a life-threatening situation until the parademon had arrived in that classroom. Even with his new body he was scared to face the monster.
That the doorway was meant for him to go through was obvious, but he hesitated for a moment, wondering if he could try to find another way out of this mess. But as far as he could see it was the only way out.
With a heavy sigh he took three deep breaths, he had to face the parademon head-on and hope that his new abilities would be enough to take it down. He didn't give himself a moment to second guess himself as he walked through the doorway.
It was as if everything had been on pause while he was gone then resumed as he entered the classroom.
For a spilt second neither parademon nor Abilo reacted, both standing there like two strangers forced to make small talk to pass the time.
The parademon seemingly confused by Abilo's apparently sudden transformation into a golden adult man and Abilo adjusting to being an adult man again with superpowers.
Then all hell broke close.
The parademon let out a deafening roar. Abilo braced himself, steadying his nerves as he prepared to face the creature. The parademon lunged at him, its massive frame hurtling through the air.
Abilo immediately let his instincts take control and sidestepped the monster only to trip over something and fall onto the bloody remains of one of his classmates. He as quickly as possible jumped up only to be tackled by the parademon.
The creature's sheer heat, claws and massive built right up against Abilo nearly caused him to panic and with lightning-fast reflexes beyond anything a human could do sidestepped the attack and landed a solid blow to the creature's side. The parademon let out a guttural howl of pain, but it didn't go down. Abilo knew that he would have to keep up the pressure if he wanted to have any chance of defeating the thing.
The parademon charged again, its talons gleaming in the light. Abilo gritted his teeth and lunged forward, meeting the monster head-on. The two clashed with an ear-splitting crash, sending shockwaves rippling through the room.
Abilo felt the impact reverberate through his body, but he didn't falter. He kept pressing forward, striking blow after blow against the parademon's thick hide. The creature fought back with equal ferocity, its claws raking across Abilo's chest and arms.
Despite the pain, Abilo kept fighting.
He had no idea what he was doing, he had never been in a fight in his life, always been able to talk potential opponents down but he doubted the thing was going to listen to him.
Instead, he just kept landing punches on the creature, witnessing that he was at least causing damage to the thing.
He felt a surge of hope, knowing that he just might have a chance at defeating this monster after all.
With a final burst of energy, Abilo delivered a crushing blow to the parademon's head. The creature staggered back, its eyes rolling back in its skull. Abilo watched as it collapsed to the ground, motionless.
For a moment, Abilo stood there. He had faced down a fearsome opponent and emerged victorious. It was a feeling unlike anything he had ever experienced before, a sense of power and triumph that he knew he would never forget. He couldn't help but look down on the dead creature with a sense of pride.
He then turned to look out the windows.
Even though he had seen it before he couldn't help but stare in disbelief at spacecrafts in the sky, unleashing a wave of destruction on the city below. People were running for their lives as buildings crumbled and explosions filled the air.
As he watched in horror, Abilo felt a strange sensation in his body, as if something inside him was awakening. Suddenly, he was lifted off the ground, his feet no longer touching the floor. He looked down and saw that he was flying, soaring through the air like a bird.
At first, Abilo was elated. He had always dreamed of having superpowers, and now he could fly! But then he realized that he was in the middle of an alien invasion, and he needed to act fast if he wanted to survive.
He thrust his arms out like superman did when he flew and headed straight into the besieged city, his sharp senses scanning the landscape for the first sign of danger.
He spotted a trio of Parademons, surrounding a pair of adults and three small children. The mother was holding her children close while the dad had raised fists prepared to defeat his family.
Abilo flew straight at them as fast as he could, as he did so he felt a burning sensation in his hands. Without any conscious thought his closed fist shot a beam of light that sliced through one of them like a knife through butter. The parademons and family both looked up at Abilo as he landed in front of them.
Giving the creatures no time to think, Abilo quickly shot another beam at the Parademon nearest to the mother and her kids, taking the thing's head and causing the body to fall to the ground.
"Run now!" Abilo screamed at the family as he turned his attention to the remaining parademon.
The remaining monster had flown into the air, aiming its gun at Abilo, and firing a red blast at him.
Abilo sidestepped the blast and flew up at the creature avoiding the concrete fallout.
The parademon fired again and again at Abilo who strove to avoid the hits. He had no idea if its weapon could harm him, and he had no intention of finding out.
The creature soon disregarded using its gun and swooped in, this time attacking with its sharp talons.
This time the creature managed to get close to Abilo. He tried to block the attack, but his timing was off, and the talons scraped against his chest. He punched the creature off him and looked down at his chest hoping its claws didn't do too much damage. He felt around where the claws struck him only to see no harm at all.
So, he was invulnerable to some degree, he just needed to figure out how much.
The roar of the creature brought Abilo's focus out of his thoughts.
The thing was headed straight at him, trying to take advantage of his inattention to strike a blow. Abilo prevented the creature from doing so by feinting to the left, then dodging to the right, surprising the Parademon and delivering a devastating punch to its jaw.
The Parademon screeched in pain and fury, but Abilo was not done yet. He unleashed a flurry of punches and kicks, each one landing with bone-crushing force. Finally, with a final burst of energy, Abilo delivered a powerful beam that incinerated the Parademon on the spot.
He smiled as he watched the remains of the creatures fall down to earth.
His happiness was shortly lived as he took in a bird's eye view of the city.
The entire city looked like an ant hill. There were parademons everywhere attacking everything and everyone in sight. A feeling of doom he couldn't help but feel hit him.
How was he shouldn't to stop this? How do regular superheroes do it in comics and shows? Almost immediately the realization hit him.
He knew what he had to do, looking around for his target.
it was so simple when he thought about it, take out the commander and use the Father Boxes to force the invaders back to their shithole of a planet. He remembered justice league unlimited and the animated movie having the Apokolips invading forces being sucked into the portals made from Father Boxes.
Naturally murphy's law came into effect.
He soared through the sky, the wind rushing past his face as he scanned the alien fleet around him. The sky was filled with alien spaceships, all firing their weapons at the city below. He had to find the command ship and take it out if he had any hope of stopping the invasion.
It was, however, hard to determine which one was the command ship. He flew closer to the fleet, dodging laser beams and missile fire as he searched for any clues.
Really shouldn't the invasion be over soon? The Justice league always stopped the threat but as he could hear the screams of civilians, the laughter and roaring of the parademons, and the spaceships overhead robbed him of that notion.
Suddenly, a bright flash caught his eye, and he veered to the left, narrowly avoiding a missile. As he regained his balance, he realized that the flash had come from one of the ships near the center of the fleet. It was larger than the others. A guess was as good as any.
"That's it," Abilo thought to himself, his heart racing with excitement. He flew straight towards the ship, dodging incoming fire as he went. As he got closer, he could see that the ship was heavily armed, with multiple turrets and cannons aimed directly at him.
Abilo flew in a zigzag pattern, making it harder for the turrets to hit him. He then charged up his own energy and fired a powerful beam of light towards the ship's main weapon, causing it to explode. The ship shook violently, and Abilo took advantage of the chaos to shoot any another beam at the bottom of the ship near what he assumed was the command center and flew straight through the hole.

Lashina stood at the helm of her spaceship, overseeing her army of Parademons as they swarmed over the city below. The people of this city and world were helpless against her might, and she reveled in their fear and desperation. Her lord had already landed and was engaging in a battle with some of its defenders. Amazingly one of them was a kryptonian. She thought for sure their troublesome race was extinct.
Suddenly, she heard a loud crash behind her. She spun around to see a golden man, hovering in the air and looking at her with determination.
"Open a boomtube," the man said. "And go back to Apokolips."
The foolish mortal's statement raised several questions. While the name of Apokolips wasn't secret the reveal of knowing about Father Boxes was interesting. Perhaps after she defeated him, she would take him to Apokolips to have some fun with him and of course interrogate him.
She discreetly pressed a button while keeping the man's focus on her.
Lashina smirked. "I don't think so. I like this world and am looking forward to seeing the sights. Before we begin what is your name?"
The man opened his mouth then closed it again.
"You don't have a name?" Lashina inquired with a mocking tone.
"I have a name just not interested in sharing it with you." He replied angerly.
"Manners are important."
He scowled in a cute way that made Lashina really want to have him for herself. She wondered how loud he would scream when she took him home and brought out her toys.
"How does Goldman sound?"
Without a respond, Goldman flew towards Lashina, his fists raised ready to strike her. Lashina lashed out with her electrified whip, but Goldman dodged it and slammed a powerful punch into her side.
Lashina grunted in pain, but she quickly recovered and swung her whip again. This time, it connected with Goldman's arm, sending a jolt of electricity through his body.
He cried out in pain, but he didn't give up. He continued to fight back, using his speed to dart around Lashina and land quick blows whenever he could.
Lashina was impressed by Goldman's tenacity, but she was still determined to defeat him. She launched a barrage of attacks, whipping her coil back and forth and unleashing a newly arrived wave of Parademons to distract him.
Goldman was quickly surrounded by the Parademons, but he didn't falter. He blasted them with what looked like disintegration beams, she wondered if he was connected to the lords of order.
Lashina could recognize the difference between those with experience and those without any in combat. It was obvious to her that Goldman was simply reacting to things around him.
Once the last parademon was destroyed she prepared to jump back into the fight, only to stop at feeling the familiar presence of a boomtube behind her. She wondered who was coming on to her ship only to feel the boomtube pull her inside!
She couldn't stop the tube from pulling her but that didn't prevent her from trying to hold onto a nearby console.
She looked up to see Goldman with a fist outreached, no doubt preparing to fire a disintegration beam at her.
Lashina glared at him, still defiant. "You may have won this battle, hero, but the war is far from over."
With that, she let go of the console and went in through the boomtube.
o-o-o-o-o
Abilo stared at the open boomtube in wonder. He couldn't help but be amazed at the sight of it. The sound of metal scratching metal caused him to refocus and realize he needed to get off the ship.
He quickly flew through the hole he made in the floor and rushed away from the ship just as it was sucked into the portal.
Abilo looked around the city to see the parademons and spaceships being sucked up into the portals. As they left, he couldn't help but release a sigh of relief. He had no idea what he was going to do if he had to fight the invasion by himself.
Everywhere as far as he could see the invading forces were leaving. Abilo couldn't help but thank God as he floated down to the ground. Now he could go back to the school and pretend like he was there the whole time.
As soon as he landed on the ground, the sound of cheering and applause filled his ears. He looked around to see a sea of grateful civilians, all expressing their thanks and admiration.
Abilo couldn't help but smile. As he stood amid the cheering crowd, he felt a deep sense of satisfaction and fulfillment.
"Thank you! Thank you so much!" cried a woman as she rushed towards Abilo, tears streaming down her face. "You saved my family! You saved us all!"
Abilo embraced the woman and patted her back, feeling a rush of emotion. "I'm just doing my job," he said, his voice thick with emotion. "I'm glad I could help."
As he walked through the crowd, Abilo was met with countless expressions of gratitude and admiration. Children clung to his legs, asking for autographs and photos. The adults shook his hand and thanked him for his bravery.
As the cheers continued to ring out, Abilo stood tall, his cape billowing in the wind. He looked out over the sea of faces, feeling a deep sense of pride and purpose. This was his city, and he would always be there to protect it.
It was here where he would create order for the world and its people.
The lord of order is Ahri'ahn, a hero of Atlantis that became a lord of order.
I do realize it seems odd that the parademons attacking where they did seem strange but it's an example of Abilo's comic book knowledge not matching up with the "real world" of the DC Universe.
As always please leave reviews telling me what you think about this chapter.
Next chapter is reactions to Abilo, potential future allies and enemies, aftermath of the invasion and a strange partnership offer.
