Duel Course: Ka'an vs Dark Magician
Three weeks ago, the monsters and ranking humans all agreed that a more strenuous training regimen would be needed in order to further prepare the humans for the battle ahead. But the ranking humans didn't want to just toss their people to some random mystery training without first checking to see if it was safe enough.
"So it's you," I said out loud to my opponent. "You're my first obstacle on this course."
"My apprentice apparently thinks you have some skill and worth in the realm of duel monsters." Dark Magician stated.
"Maybe, I was the one to figure out it was a Kuriboh that had struck our fleet six months ago. And I was involved in one of the last duels our planet saw before we left. Plus, I'm one of very few that actually kept my cards with me whenever we left the planet." I stated.
"Now let's see what you can do against a Master Magician, and some Dragons if you should happen to get by me." Dark Magician stated.
"Dragons?" I questioned but was not answered.
"Now it's time to duel!" He said.
"Duel!" We said together.
I began running down the maze with Dark Magician flying close behind me.
"I draw! I summon Thunder King Rai-Oh in attack mode!"
A blue monster made of superconductive materials and two rings charged with electricity formed from the card.
"Finally I set two cards facedown and end my turn." I finished.
Dark Magician looked thoughtful, "I draw! I activate Dark Magical Circle, allowing me to look at the top three cards of my deck, and to keep any Dark Magician related card to my hand." He looked at the cards, "hmm, I then set them on top of my deck in any order I choose. Next, I summon Apple Magician Girl in attack mode!"
A young female wearing a red mini skirt and tall hat formed from the card.
"Then finally, I'll set two cards facedown and end my turn as well." He finished.
Something didn't feel right, but I don't have much choice right now. I ran down the corridor and made a turn, Dark Magician was not far behind pressing me on.
"My turn! I draw! I summon Goblindbergh, then his effect activates and I can special summon another monster to my field by turning Goblindbergh to defense mode. I special summon Cyber Valley in attack mode!"
The plane flew in with a small squadron carrying a big crate beneath them. The crate pops open and a metallic snake-like monster drops onto the field. I jumped up and rode on the back of the plane to give my legs a rest.
He grins, "I activate my trap, Dark Renewal! Now I can send my Apple and your Valley to the graveyard to special summon a Dark Magician from my deck or graveyard. From my deck, I special summon my most powerful servant, rise Dark Magician in attack mode!" He countered.
A red coffin forms on his field, absorbing our two monsters into itself, then a light shone through the lid and a Dark Magician rose onto the field.
"And since a Dark Magician was summoned to my field, I can now activate Circle and banish one of your cards!" He finished.
"Not so fast! I activate my Rai-Ohs ability! I can send him to the graveyard to negate your special summon and destroy Dark Magician without your Circle activating!"
Rai-Oh charges his powers and shot a wave of electricity across the field, blasting Dark Magician off the field, before fading himself.
"Hm. Very well. Continue then." He said.
"That's all for me. I end my turn." I finished.
"I draw. I summon Breaker the Magical Warrior in attack mode."
A monster wearing red armor and cape, pointy red helmet, sword, and shield formed from the card.
"Breaker gains one spell counter when summoned. Now I use one spell counter to destroy your facedown card on the right via his effect!"
Breaker's sword glowed with power, then he swung the sword in my direction and a wave of energy flew over and sliced my facedown card in half, destroying it.
"Now battle! Breaker attack his Goblindbergh!" He declared.
"Uh oh!" I leaped off my monster, tumbling on the floor as Breaker came forward and slashed my Goblindbergh in two, destroying it in an explosion of power. The blast knocked me to my knees and made me skid across the floor a few feet. I turned and raised an arm to Dark Magician.
"I activate my trap card, Soul Rope! Now by paying 1000 life points, I can special summon a level four monster from my deck to my field! I special summon Engraver of the Mark in attack mode!" I countered.
The facedown card rose straight up, and a portal opened beneath it. A yellow rope of energy dropped down and into the portal. A monster with grey tattered clothing and two rapier swords rose. 7000lp
"Now my monster's ability activates! It gives your Magic Circle the mark of destruction, and at the end of the next players' end phase, your card will be destroyed!"
Engraver leaped at the spell card and slashed a huge Z across the face.
Dark Magician narrowed his eyes, "you let your monster be destroyed just so you could summon a stronger one and destroy my spell card. Interesting. I end my turn."
I had to wipe a little sweat off my brow, then began running again. This was going to be tougher than I would have liked to admit.
"I draw! I summon Bull Blader in attack mode!"
A dark minotaur with large red horns, wearing bronze armor and a large broadsword, formed from the card.
"Now battle! Engraver attack his Breaker!" I declared.
Engraver launched at Breaker with his arms crossed, then slashed him with both blades destroying him and dealing 200 in damage. 7800lp
"Bull Blader attack him directly!"
Blader leaped at Dark Magician and slammed his broadsword down on him dealing 1600 in damage. 6200lp
"Agh!" Dark Magician reeled from the impact but stayed aloft.
"Now I set one card facedown and end my turn. And your Circle is also destroyed!" I finished.
The Z glowed and the card exploded from the energy.
"How interesting indeed. Now I draw. Time for some payback. I activate Monster Reborn to resummon my Dark Magician from my graveyard in attack mode!" He said.
The spell glowed with power and the Dark Magician formed from the card face renewed.
"And don't think I'll leave it as it is either, next I activate my facedown spell, Mage Power and equip it to my Dark Magician, who will now gain 500 extra attack and defense for each card I control in my back row. Then I'll set two cards to make the total three, that's 1500 extra points for my Dark Magician!"
A strange aura formed around his Dark Magician and his power rose to 4000.
"Oh, this is going to hurt!" I exclaimed as I ran harder just to try and reduce the shockwave that was going to head my way.
"Dark Magician attack his Engraver with Dark Magic attack!" He declared.
Dark Magician raised his staff and charged a huge blast, then released it all towards my Engraver.
I needed to do something quick! "I activate Engraver's ability! Before he goes he will mark your Dark Magician for destruction!!"
Engraver weaved his swords and went flying towards Dark Magician as the two passed each other, a Z was left on Dark Magicians' chest and Engraver exploded dealing me 2200 in damages. 4800lp
"Aaaahhh..oh..ow..ah..eeh..oof!" I was tossed to the ground by the shockwave and rolled for a few feet till I hit the wall at the next corner.
"Ow…" I groaned as I flipped onto my back.
"I end my turn Ka'an. Let's see what you can do now!"
I got to my feet and breathed heavily, then I reached for my deck. "I draw! I set one card facedown and end my turn." I slumped against the rock for a moment breathing heavily some more. "Now Engraver's effect takes out your Dark Magician!" I informed him.
A grin split his lips, "like I'd let that happen. I activate the trap card, GagagaShield! Now one spellcaster is equipped and can't be destroyed up to twice per turn!" He countered.
"What!? Aw, man! Ugh, fine." I relented.
"I draw. Battle! Now for your last line of defense to be destroyed! Dark Magician, attack his Bull Blader! Dark Magic Attack!!" He declared.
Now it was my turn to grin. "First I activate my trap card, Heavy Storm Duster! Now I can destroy two spell and trap cards on the field, and your Shield and facedown card look like good targets!!"
A hurricane formed and swept his backrow of the two select cards, just leaving Mage Power.
"My monster still gains the attack bonus of Mage Power, and is nearly double of your Bulls attack points! Continue your attack!" He ordered his monster forward.
"You should really read the fine print," I said.
"What!?" He asked.
"Bull Blader has a special ability as well. Go Rising Horn! Whenever Bull Blader is in battle, I take no battle damage and on top of that, your monster is also destroyed!" I explained.
Both monsters clashed, his Magician blasting my Bull with a magical blast and mine, running him through with two large and extended horns. Both monsters exploded but no damage was given.
"Hm. Intriguing. I end my turn." He finished.
"And I'll start mine. I draw! I activate the continuous spell Dragonoid Generator, by paying 1000 life points, I can now special summon a Dragonoid token onto my field in attack mode. I can do this up to two times on my turn."
The small tokens appeared from the card like an egg, then popped to reveal miniature robotic dragons. -1000 3800lp
"Now battle! The two tokens will attack you directly!" I declared.
The two small tokens flew up and slapped his chest dealing 600 in damage. 5600lp
"I end my turn, and now for the drawback. My card gives you two tokens as well." I finished.
Two tokens formed on his field.
"Hm, that is quite a drawback. My turn, I draw. I summon Skilled Dark Magician in attack mode."
A monster with brown robes and blue armor shoulder plating, carrying a short scepter formed from the card.
"Now battle! Both of my tokens will attack both of yours, then Skilled Dark Magician will attack you directly!" He declared.
All four tokens slammed into each other and exploded into millions of pieces. Then his Magician flew up and blasted me with built-up magical energies dealing 1900 in damages. 1900lp
"Ah!" I groaned holding my stomach in pain, leaning against the same wall. "Oh man, this hurts…" I said under my breath.
"I end my turn." He finished.
"Ugh, I draw," I said weakly. "I set one monster in defense mode and end my turn." I finished.
"I draw. I set one card facedown. Now battle! Skilled Dark Magician attack his facedown monster!" He declared.
His monster flew over and blasted my monster off the field.
"I end my turn." He finished.
"I draw. I summon Inspector Boarder in attack mode!"
A robot in white armor, with red lights flashing all over and riding some sort of hoverboard swooped up from down the course and came up between us.
"What!? You have that card!?" He asked wide-eyed.
"Yeah, a little late to the party but he's here now. Now we each cannot use monster effects unless an equal number of different extra deck monster card types are on the field as well. Now battle! Inspector Boarder attack his Skilled Dark Magician!! I declared.
My monster turned and air surfed into his, blasting it with the bottom jets of the board, destroying it.
"I end my turn there." I finished, then climbed onto the board and rode further down the course.
Dark Magician wafted the smoke away and flew after us.
"My turn, I draw!" He looked at his cards, "I set two cards facedown and end my turn." He finished.
"I draw. I activate Pot of Duality, I can check the top three cards of my deck, keeping one, then reshuffle the rest back into the deck as long as I don't special summon a monster this turn. That ends my turn." I finished.
"What's the matter, not going to attack?" He taunted as he drew a card. "I draw."
"I'm not that dumb, and I won't send my monster in for a suicide run either," I answered.
"Very well. I end my turn then." He finished.
"I draw. Now to begin my comeback, I activate my Generators effect and summon two Dragonoid tokens on my field."
"Like that will help you!" He mocked.
"They will, cause now I can sacrifice them and my Inspector to summon my Beast King Barbados in attack mode!"
"What!?" His eyes went wide with surprise.
All three monsters on my field disappeared in a swirl of wind, forming a tornado, then a light began to shine through and a form took shape. Four legs, two arms, a joust, and a shield, with the head of a lion and an armored mane, appeared out of the torrent of wind.
"Since I used three monsters to summon this beast, his special ability activates. Destroying your entire field!"
Barbaros roars, sending shockwaves across the field destroying all his cards.
"No!" He yelled.
"Now, since I have five or more monsters in my graveyard, and none of them are repeats of each other, I can special summon my Orbital Hydralander in attack mode!"
The card glowed and a beam shot out of the card into the sky above. Up in orbit, everyone that was working on the new device saw a glow and then a strange satellite with nine heads pointed down to the ground formed.
"Now battle! Barbaros attack him directly! Tornado Bringer!" I declared.
Barbaros' charged at him and struck him dead center of his chest, knocking him to the ground dealing 3000 in damage. 2600lp
"Aaaahh!!" He screamed in pain as he was slammed to the ground.
"Orbital Hydralander, attack him directly! Orbital Laser Bombardment!"
In orbit, everyone saw the lights from the nine heads glow and release in several short and repeated bursts. On the ground, everyone saw the streaks of light slam down on the course sending explosions and shockwaves everywhere dealing 3000 in damage. 0lp
Dark Magician was covered in a dust cloud and I couldn't see where he was. I wafted through the smoke and reached out for his form. He wasn't there anymore. I looked in every direction until the smoke cleared. I couldn't find him, and my monsters disappeared as the duel ended.
