Duel Course: Ka'an vs Maiden with Eyes of Blue

I couldn't find the Dark Magician anywhere, he just wasn't there.

"Maybe the monsters get teleported out if they lose too?" I wondered aloud.

I moved further down the course, a long corridor, no features or marking to suggest just how far I've gone. Looking at my duel disk, I only have 1900 life points left, if my next opponent is too strong, I'm done for. I rounded a corner and almost ran straight into a woman with long white hair.

"Excuse me, I didn't think there was anyone else on this cour…wait, you're.." I started, but she finished it.

"I am the Maiden with Eyes of Blue, and I'm your next opponent." She said.

"You're the one that represents the dragon clans, that means you're a dragon duelist," I said.

"Gee, how did you guess that one smarty pants?" She asked incredulously.

"Heh, sorry. Um, ahem. Shall we get started?" I asked.

"Let's." She answered.

"Duel!" We said together.

"Since I'm the challenger, I'll start us off. I draw. I summon Masked Dragon in attack mode."

A red-skinned dragon with white bone armor scales covering its body formed from the card.

"Then I'll set two cards facedown and end my turn. Let us see how far you can go with so few life points." She finished.

"I draw. I set three cards facedown, then I summon Cardcar D in attack mode."

A low-riding blue car with a bird emblem on the hood drove up from the corridor.

"Let's take a ride!" I hopped on the back of it and we took off down the corridor. She jumped on the back of her dragon and rode it after me.

"You won't escape from this course without taking a loss Ka'an!" She mocked.

"Watch me!" I countered.

We went down the next stretch of the corridor and made another turn and I waited until we were about halfway down it, then hopped off.

"Now I activate Cars ability, by sacrificing it off my field, I can draw 2 new cards, but it becomes the end of my turn. Your move." I finished.

"Interesting opening move, I draw, but not that interesting. I summon my second Masked Dragon in attack mode. Now battle! Mask Dragons attack him directly and end this duel!" She commanded.

"I activate my spell, Arrivalrivals, I'm allowed to perform a normal summons right now! I summon Vylon Prism in attack mode!"

A light struck my field and a crystalline monster with white armor rose from the card.

"Tch! Fine, I end my turn." She finished.

"I activate my facedown, Heavy Storm Duster! Now I can destroy both of your backrow cards!" I countered.

Two tornadoes formed and cleared the two cards in her back row.

"And since you ended your turn, it's mine, I draw!"

I hopped on the back of my Vylon and we went further up the corridor.

"Now I summon Cosmic Compass in attack mode. Plus I gain one Compass token for each monster you have on the field!"

A brass rod of a monster with balanced ends formed from the card, then two more smaller versions joined it.

"Now I activate Double Summon, I am allowed to normal summon once more. I tribute all three Compass monsters to tribute summon my Beast King Barbaros in attack mode."

A shaft of light formed on the ground as the three monsters disappeared into it. Then a tornado shot out and inside formed four legs, two arms, spear, shield, and a lion with an armored mane came out.

"I'm aware of what your cards can do, so I'll just get around it and destroy everything in one blow!" I explained.

Barbaros roared and the shockwave cleared every card on her field.

"Now battle! Barbaros and Vylon attack her directly!" I commanded.

Both monsters flew back and collided with her, dealing -4500 damage. 3500lp

"Gah!" She stumbled backward a bit, then a strong surge of energy came from her, the dragons within weren't happy.

Unsure of what that was, I decided to end it, I was done anyway, "I end my turn." I finished.

"You are interesting." She said, "I draw. I activate Cards of Consonance, by discarding one dragon tuner of 1000 defense or less, I can draw two new cards. The tuner I sent was The White Stone of Legend. Now I gain. Blue-Eyes White Dragon from my deck to my hand. Now I set two cards facedown and one monster in defense mode. I end my turn." She finished, then stepped on the back of her card and surfed it after us.

"Impressive. But what do you think you're going to do with those?" I asked.

"You'll see. Now go!"

"Ok, I draw. Heh, I summon Thunder King Rai-Oh in attack mode!" I said.

"What!?" She exclaimed.

A blue monster made of conductive materials and two rings charged with electricity formed from the card.

"If you can't stop this, it's game over!" I hopped off my monster and began running. "Battle! Vylon attack her facedown monster!" I commanded.

The crystalline monster flew forward and sliced the facedown monster in half.

"Tch!" She leaped off her card and landed on her feet gracefully. "That was my White Stone of the Ancients, if the duel would continue to the end phase, I could get one of my Blue-Eyes onto the field!" She said.

"Yeah well, you all made this quite the course, I almost didn't make it past Dark Magician. Now Barbaros, Rai-Oh, attack her directly!" I commanded.

Barbaros raised and lowers his spear, while Rai-Oh built and released thousands of volts of electricity dealing -4900 damage. 0lp

"Aaaaaahhhhh!!!!" She screamed and was knocked back hard against a wall, the dust and smoke covered her completely.

I lost sight of her. "Not again." I looked around and couldn't find her anywhere, just like Dark Magician. So I turned and ran down the corridor to the next corner and was rewarded with an open sky.

I went a few feet outside before collapsing on the ground and breathing heavily. I'm not sure how long I was there before I heard footsteps approaching. Sitting up, I looked in their direction and was greeted by Dark Magician Girl.

"Dark Magician Girl!" I said as I began to stand up.

"Please, relax. The course was quite an ordeal for you." She said holding up a hand to motion I stay put.

I sat back down on the ground and looked at her curiously.

"So, what are you doing here?" I asked.

"I wanted you to have this card." She stepped closer to hand it to me.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Something I believe you will be able to wield, and it should come in handy against the darkness." She explained. "But you must promise to never wield this in just any duel, he has an attitude and is particular on who he faces. If they're not a challenge, he won't respond to your call." She said.

Taking the card, I had a look at it, "what card could possibly be…?" I was stumped. "This..this..this is.." I couldn't talk.

"Yes, I believe you can wield him, and wield him carefully. Also, he chose you to wield him." She said.

"He..," pointing at the card, "chose me?" Pointing at myself. "Why?" I asked.

"It started with the duel you had on Earth before you had to leave, I felt a stirring in the great chamber, and his card was glowing. They do not choose another lightly and they do not get impressed easily." She expects. "Now, when I saw this, I am allowed to see and feel what the card is thinking. He showed me your duel at the base and your selfless act of trying to save others. Actually, I think he showed me two duels, you broke through a building?" She noted, tapping her chin with her finger.

I coughed, "actually, I broke through a roof." I explained what happened. "Then there was the revenge duel with the jerk that destroyed my base. Then the duel with the sabotaged computer and bombs." I said.

"Yes, those are what I saw. But shortly after you left the planet, your kind disappeared for almost two years. Then you did something that sent a ripple right across the cosmos, and I found you again. So I sent Rainbow Kuriboh to retrieve you." She said.

"That's how we ended up here the first time, and consequently how we got here now," I stated, I thought for a moment. "Two years after we left, we had just installed and activated the new engines and began to go to light speeds," I said.

"Whatever it was, I was able to find you then. Because we needed your return. Your species..as a whole..not you specifically!" She said but blushed profusely.

"Okay, I get it." I looked at the card in my hand and then stood up. "I'll take good care of this," I promised.

"So, what will you do now?" She asked.

I closed my eyes in concentration. "I'm going to prepare the rest of our troop. If they are not able to make it past even this course, they will be of absolutely no use against the goo..er darkness." I cracked my eyes open and looked down. "Who else has made it past the course?" I asked.

"No one. Yet. Everyone else is still inside their particular course. A few are near the end, but only you have made it this far." She answered.

"Don't tell them I've passed. Don't tell anyone that we had this talk and especially don't tell them about this card! I'm not sure how just yet, but something is telling me that the worst is about to start, and I will not be the shining beacon for everyone to rally behind. They need another." I stated.

"But there is no other. You are the obvious choice. You escaped from a near-death experience. You stopped the attack on your base almost single-handed." She continued.

"No, I did not!! I was not by myself!! I did not fly that ship in by myself and I most certainly did not fire those weapons by myself!! And that idiot who had that warrior deck was next to nothing. He was easy to take down! So that duel cannot be used as some sort of great victory!" I shouted my statement loud and clear. "I will not lead them."

She looked at me with worried eyes. "But they will need you. You cannot just not be there for them. Your leadership will be.." she started to say

"Something no one besides very few have witnessed." I interrupted. "And I will not be used to support the entire planet on my shoulders. I'll be there, I'll fight, I'll order them into battle, but the weight is not only mine to bear. Every human must bear some of this burden, or we will fail!" I declared.

I turned to walk away from the conversation, but she had one last thing to say.

"You may not realize it, but your presence on top of the rest will happen. Maybe not soon, but it will happen. You forget who you are talking to human. We are able to do things, see things, even you cannot possibly understand! A time will come when your word is law! Your actions will dictate the lives of millions! You cannot turn your back to the fate that awaits you!!" She shouted to my ever-receding backside.

I did not turn around, but I did answer her under my breath. "Watch me."
