Millions of Years Ago...

It was a dark and unforgiving night as the harsh winds blew throughout the seemingly dead tundra while the grounds were coated with heaps of snow. Zero life, animal or foliage, could not be seen throughout the barren, snow-covered lands. The whole environment was quiet and lifeless while the shrill howl of wind screamed throughout the tundra, a stinging and unforgiving cold sweeping across the area.

However, within the desolate environment of snow and darkness, an orange glow flickered in the opaque blackness of the night. The source of the glow came from a torch, its flame barely keeping itself alive against the unrelenting snow. Holding the torch was a woman, draped in a cloak that looked to be comprised of various animal hides, as she trudged through the snowy path. The frigid air brushed against her body while the snow crunched beneath her boot and gusts of mist-like air escaped her lips every time she exhaled.

It was unclear as to where she was going but the woman wasn't making this journey alone. Tucked to her side with her other arm was a small boy, one that appeared to be no older than five or six, who clung onto her side in an effort to protect himself from the biting cold. The child had his face buried against his mother's body, hiding beneath her cloak while he shivered and twitched from the harsh temperatures of the uncaring blizzard. The boy was unsure if he or his mother could make it through the night, the cold temperature gradually whittling down his mother's stamina to nothingness. If both were unable to find something even remotely resembling then they would surely perish by morning.

Just as it seemed that she couldn't continue any further, sanctuary finally had arrived when she spotted something from just a few feet away. A small cave comprised several large rocks situated against each other, standing motionless in the raging blizzard. Knowing that this could be their only chance for survival, the mother limped to the cave as fast as her body could allow while her grasp around her child tightened, keeping him from falling through her arm. Fortunately for the woman, she was successful in making it in the cave as she pulled back her cloak to let her child gently slide down her thigh before letting go of her. The boy rested against the cave walls, curling up into a ball to keep himself warm.

Now that they had found shelter, the mother gathered a handful of rocks before putting all of them in a circular formation and gently resting her torch in the center before digging through the dirt and snow. Luckily for her, she was able to find some twigs that were laying in the soil as she hurled them into the fire. It wasn't long before the flame's comforting glow grew brighter as it illuminated the drab cave walls while the child slowly looked up to see the roaring fire that his mother had made as she beckoned him over to keep himself warm.

The boy slowly and shakily stood up before carefully hobbling over to the mom, who tugged him close to her side. The child hugged his mother as tight as he could, it wasn't long before tears started to run from his eyes while all he could vocally produce was a weak sniffle. The mother gently stroked the top of his head as a way of calming him down. The sniffling would soon turn into crying as the boy hid his face against his mother's abdomen as ensnared the child in a warm embrace, letting the child sob in her arms.

"Shhhh... Don't cry, Oogar. We will be safe..." The child's mother assured, softly grazing his head with a hand. The young Neanderthal looked up, his vision was blurry and watery from the tears that his mother wiped from his eyes.

"O-Oogar scared mama... Oogar scared..." The boy lamented, his grasp around his mother's body tightening while tears continued to pour down from his eyes and down his cheeks. The mother gazed down at the sobbing boy, letting out a quiet sight before wiping the tears from his cheek before resting a hand on the side of his face. She continued to soothe the young neanderthal's sorrows with her calming voice that lessened the tension he felt in his gut and back while also providing a level of comfort from the freezing cold that gnawed away at him.

"Erga know Oogar scared... Erga scared too..." She whispered, wiping more falling tears from her son's face. She carefully moved her hand up and down the boy's back as another way to keep him cozy.

"But Oogar must know... That no matter what... Erga keep you safe. Safe from cold..." She pulled Oogar in for a loving hug, one that kept Oogar in place. "No one deserves to be in the cold. Only warmth can stand..."

Oogar dried the rest of his tears with his forearm before snuggling up in the warm embrace of his mother, returning the favor with a hug of his pen as he gently rubbed his cheek against the fur of her cloak. Erga smiled as the mother began to lull the boy to sleep with a series of melodic hums that made the child fall into a trance. She gently swayed the child side to side, the humming echoing throughout the cave walls. Oogar's eyes started to grow heavy while the stinging cold was replaced in a loving warmth that encompassed his whole body. The child soon fell into a deep slumber, as Erga shredded her cloak and dropped it over herself and her son as a blanket of sorts.

Erga stared at the crackling fire, its welcoming glow glimmering throughout the cave. She took a deep breath before letting out a quiet exhale before setting her gaze back to her resting son, a small patient smile forming on her face. She proceeded to reach down and gently place a hand on top of the boy's head, keeping him close by. The mother, content that her child was safe from the raging blizzard from outside, began to shut her eyes as she planned to drift off into sleep. Unfortunately, just as she was about to fall asleep, her eyes suddenly shot open.

She raised her head up in the air before taking several whiffs of the air, her brows furrowing and a scowl forming on her face. Quietly, she stood up before tucking her child in her cloak withdrawing a spear that was strapped to her, and proceeded to head straight for the cave entrance, standing just a few feet away from the campfire and her son. Because of the falling snow, she was unable to see clearly from the cave opening but she could tell something was approaching the cave at an alarming rate. The only noise breaking this silence was the crackling fire and screeching blizzard winds.

From the darkness, pair of gleaming yellow eyes suddenly appeared from the shadows followed by a low snarling that could only belong to a hungry beast. To make matters worse for Erga, it wasn't alone as more piercing yellow eyes started to appear from the outside as they started to close in. Soon, the cave was surrounded by an entire pack of dire wolves, their hungry eyes all set on Erga, who merely glared back at the thousands of canines that dared prey upon her. She readied her spear and stood her ground, preparing the wolves to make the first move as their growls filled the cold, dead air.

After what seemed to be an eternity, the silence was finally broken when the leader of the pack lunged forward with its claws outstretched and his teeth ready to tear apart Erga limb from limb. The cavewoman was more than prepared for the attack as she jabbed her spear right into the wolf's abdomen. The spear temporarily suspended the canine in the air before the pack leader was launched against the cavern walls while blood seeped out of the gaping wound in its stomach. This retaliation cued the rest of the wolf pack to move in, as the first three wolves leaped towards the cavewoman much like their pack leader only to be met with a swift demise as Erga slashed through each of their throats with a swing of her spear. The next wolf swiped at the female Neanderthal with its razor-sharp claws but the cavewoman side-stepped the claws' edges before ending the canine's life with a spear to the head.

After removing the spearhead from the dead wolf's head, she quickly sprinted to a few more charging wolves and quickly shredded through them with a series of quick aggressive slashes to the neck and faces but she was taken by surprise when a wolf manage to chomp down onto Erga's thigh. The cavewoman roared with pain, feeling the canine's teeth punctured deep inside of her flesh as she forced out an ear-piercing scream all while blood gushed from her fresh wounds. Her agonized cries were enough to awaken her son, who opened his eyes and immediately sprung up to his feet to see his mother fighting off the horde of ferocious wolves. Not wanting to see his mother get hurt, the boy grabbed onto the nearest stick and sprinted headfirst into the danger.

"MAMA!" Oogar screamed at the top of his lungs while Erga turned around to see her young son running into battle.

"OOGAR, STAY BACK!" She demanded, not wanting her son to partake in this fight but while her back was turned, a wolf was able to latch onto her back before biting into her shoulder. Another wolf jumped up and sunk its teeth into her forearm, causing more pained screams to escape Erga's mouth. The pained cries of his mother further fueled Oogar's need to intervene as he sprinted as fast as he could to get the canines off of his mother but he was suddenly met with a canid, who attempted to pounce on the child. The boy was surprisingly nimble enough to avoid being pinned by the wolf's claws as he proceeded to reel the stick back and whacked the canine in the face as hard as he could.

The wolf merely shook off the attack before lunging forward and snapping its jaws, causing Oogar to move out of the way yet again. He swung the stick again, striking the canine in the eye, though this only seemed to enrage it rather than harm as it delivered a powerful swipe of its claws that sent the young neanderthal flying into the surrounding cave walls. The wolf started slowly approaching the boy while a look of horror surfaced on Erga's face before transforming into a seething scowl as she slammed the butt of her spear right into the snout of the candid on her arm, forcing him to detach itself from her forearm. The canine on the mother's back was suddenly grabbed by the neck before being tackled to the ground, the cavewoman's arms wrapped around the canine's neck.

Despite the injuries inflicted on her arm, she was still able to able to get a good hold on the wolf's neck before ending its life with a 'SNAP'. The canid's body dropped to the snow-coated ground as the female neanderthal proceeded to bolt towards her son. Along the way, she made quick work of a few wolves that tried to pounce her only to be skewered and sliced by Erga's spear. Oogar let out a groan of pain, his chest now housing a noticeable claw mark while the wolf who assaulted him made a beeline towards the neanderthal, intent on making the child its dinner. Erga jabbed the shaft of her spear into the snow before springing herself forward, with her weapon now high into the air. The wolf was just hair's length away from mauling Oogar but would suddenly stop dead in its tracks when Erga jammed the head of her spear into its cranium.

The canine's body dropped dead in less than a second while Erga ripped the head from the wolf's brain and kicked the carcass to the side. Oogar recoiled his arms in fear, shielding his face from splatters of blood from the wolf's head as the cavewoman stood in front of her son in a defensive position in order to prevent the other canids from getting to him. She swung and jabbed her spear at the approaching canines, scoring several kills that made the snow and her spearhead run red with blood. Meanwhile, the pack leader slowly got back up on its paws with blood still leaking from its stomach wound but it was not giving up that easily as the pack leader charged forward with all the strength it had in its body.

Clearing through its pack of members, the pack leader launched itself at Erga in a second attempt to attack the mother. The cavewoman jabbed her spear, aiming for the pack leader's head but in a surprise turn of events, the wolf maneuvered itself right out of the spear's reach tackling Erga to the ground. Erga felt the canid's razor-sharp claws pierce into her flesh as she let out a pained growl as the wolf attempted to bite the Neanderthal's face off. Acting fast, Erga extended her arms and grabbed onto the wolf's muzzle before it could tear at her face before pulling its head back. Furrowing its brow, the pack leader fought back against Erga's grasp with its teeth inches away from sinking into her flesh.

As the two struggled to overpower the other, Erga's legs were left vulnerable to the rest of the pack as one member clamped onto the cavewoman's shin while another bit onto her foot. The mother felt the crushing pain from the wolf's jaws digging into her flesh but she was still focused on trying to get the pack leader off of her. To save his mother, Oogar rushed towards the wolf while it was trying to bite into Erga's face and with the stick still in his hand, drove it right into the pack leader's eye before it had a chance to look up. The wolf couldn't help but yelp with agony, the jagged end of the twig now embedded in its eye socket. While it was distracted by the horrific pain, Erga slammed a fist right into the canine's jaw, knocking the pack leader off of her. The impact of her blow sent the pack leader crashing into the snow.

However, Erga was unable to free herself from the wolves that still had her by the legs as both canines forcibly dragged the cavewoman out of the cave, her spear falling out of her hands while several of its pack remembers followed the two canids. Erga's screams disappeared off into the roaring blizzard while Oogar scrambled back onto his feet and snatched his mother's spear before sprinting out of the cave and into the freezing cold.

The speared wolf was the second to get up, the stick still wedged in its eye socket as a snarl of rage left its muzzle before it came barreling out of the cave with its sights set on the boy. Due to the rapid blizzard, the snow impaired Oogar's vision, but Oogar followed his mother's cries and snarling of wolves along with a trail of blood and paw prints that ran down the snow, unaware of the beast that was tailing him from behind.

The young neanderthal ran as fast he could, fighting through the stinging cold towards the direction where he heard his mother. His stamina was gradually depleting by the seconds, but he would soon pick up speed when he turned his head to see the enraged pack leader barreling towards him in a murderous rage. Oogar made it further and further, sprinting as fast as his body could allow but due to the snow that clouded his field of vision, he suddenly found himself falling off from a gorge that he didn't see coming. The pack leader, meanwhile, stopped right at the gorge just in the nick of time as it watched its prey fall into a cold abyss.

The dire wolf growled, enraged that the child had gotten away and that it was now separated from his pack as the large canid slashed into the snowy grounds in a fit of rage. However, the canid craned his neck up and sniffed at the air, picking up the scent of fresh blood before turning to its side to see the bloody trail that was starting to lead down a pathway connecting to the gorge.

The boy screamed as he plummeted several feet down before landing face-first into the snow, emitting a painful groan upon hitting the ground. Surprisingly, Oogar was able to survive the fall albeit the landing did leave him in a daze as he slowly picked himself up. At first, he barely could stand upright where his eyes were met with a dark-grayish culminations of blurs that wriggled and pulsed that he could barely make out but upon coming to his senses, he would be met with a horrific scene that made him sick to his stomach.

Erga, thrashing and screaming, was being devoured by the pack of dire wolves, the sickening squelching of her flesh being torn and picked off her bones and the animalistic growls of the canines rang throughout Oogar's mindscape. He had no idea what to do as the cries from his mother kept him completely frozen in place. The child looked on with fear, taking in ragged breaths of cold air while the wolves tore away at her mother. The boy's breathing started to grow more rapid while his fear started to evolve into burning anger. Anger that forced the child out of his petrified state before he unleashed a primal scream of fury bolting towards the wolf pack with the spear tightly clutched in his hand. But before he could land a hit on one of the wolves, he was suddenly pinned to the ground as a sharp pain suddenly surged throughout his shoulders.

Pressing the child into the ground was the patriarch, who followed the trail that led to where his pack was, and much to the canine's delight, it was now reunited with the boy that blinded him in the eye. Oogar tried to break free from the dire wolf's iron grip but to no avail, as the pack leader dug its claws deeper inside of the child's flesh. Oogar clenched his teeth and cried with agony, looking up to see the rest of the dire wolf pack continuing to relentlessly maul her mother with some members even fighting each other body parts. The child continued to struggle and scream while the pack leader lowered its head with a gaping maw, preparing to rip the child's head off with just its teeth alone...

THWICK!

The pack leader suddenly stopped in place, its singular eye widening with shock as something pierced right into its cranium. Oogar slowly cocked his head back to see a spear protruding from the canid's forehead, its head punctured deep in the wolf's brain. The rest of the pack went silent and stopped their feeding frenzy, all their heads collectively turning to see the still-standing corpse of their comrade before keeling over onto its side. Confused by this sudden chain of events, the whole pack backed away from Erga's body as they all frantically tried to route out the culprit that had killed their member.

However, the assailant would ultimately show himself as a loud cry of rage suddenly filled the air when a figure rapidly descended upon the wolf pack at an alarming rate of speed. The remaining dire wolves quickly scattered to avoid the oncoming figure but one wasn't so lucky as a jagged, stone axe-head came slamming right into the canid's head, splitting it wide open.

A second blow to the head was enough to end the wolf's life while its kin looked on with both shock and rage to see an enormous stocky man with a bushy, scraggly hair and a beard, held tightly in his hand was a stone axe strapped to his back. Upon landing in the snow, Oogar's father emitted a guttural roar of seething anger before charging at the canids as fast as his body could allow.

This in turn cued the remaining canines to all collectively rushed at the caveman, infuriated for killing their pack members. Oogar's father was more than prepared for the ensemble of charging canines as he reeled his axe back and with one hard swing, smashed it right into the side of the lead canid's skull. The other two canids lunged forward, leaping as high as their legs could allow prompting the caveman to duck down as the wolves passed over his head. The third canine tried to attack Oogar's father by the side only to be met with the stone axe blade embedding itself into the wolf's neck. With a second chop, the wolf's head was torn right off from its body as blood gushed out from its neck, turning the snow red within a matter of seconds.

While his father was busy fighting the remaining pack members, Oogar silently rushed to his mother's body before stopping at her side. Gruesome could barely describe the current shape her body was in. Both her legs were torn from her body with hunks of flesh missing from the side of her abdomen and claw marks running from her chest all the way up to her neck. One arm was barely dangling onto her body by strands of muscle tissue while her face was noticeably disfigured, with her nose, left eye, and pieces of her cheek missing. Her wounds made it visibly clear that she wasn't going to make it but even so, Erga was able to cling to the last shreds of life she had remaining. The cavewoman cocked her head to her son, letting out a frail wheeze.

"O..Oo...gar..." She silently whispered in a weak breath, reaching out to her only son with an outstretched, shaky arm adorning scars and bite marks. Resting a palm on the boy's cheek, both mother and son lock eyes together. The young neanderthal was physically incapable of uttering a single word but he had enough strength in his body to move his hand up to his mother's wrist and carefully hold onto it as Erga drew her final breath.

"Find...w-warmth..." Erga said and with one last breath, her eyes rolled back into her socket and her arm went limp along the rest of her body. Erga laid motionless on a sea of blood and snow while Oogar slowly rested his mother's hand back onto the snow.

The child was unable to look away at his mother's corpse while the world around him started to darken, the sounds of his father's screams and the growling wolves were replaced by a shrill ring that almost deafened the boy. A looming presence could be felt behind him, staring him down with emotionless, unblinking eyes as its voice invaded his mindscape. Its raspy and unwelcoming call swarmed Oogar's head, leaving the child petrified, keeping him in almost a catatonic state that rendered him immobile.

The Hazbin Hotel...

A booming roar of thunder from outside the comfort of Oogar's window awoke the giant, who nearly fell out of bed with a primitive scream escaping his lips. The caveman took in several panicked breaths, covering his face with both his arms while tears were streaking down his face. The nightmare was finally over for Oogar but the fear still lingered on. He could still see the face of his mother gazing at him with dead, lifeless eyes and the grasp of her cold hands. The apparition's voice was somewhere whispering in his mindscape, taunting him the inky blackness.

"C-Cold... COLD..." Oogar said over and over again like a broken record, his hands visibly shaking from the overwhelming sensation of fear and dread. The caveman clenched his fists as more tears streamed down his cheeks.

"COLD." He shouted before scrambling out of bed and hurtling straight towards the door, swinging wide open, caring little if he tore it off its hinges or not. The prehistoric demon proceeded to bolt down the hallway, his feet banging against the wooden floorboards beneath him.

"WARMTH... NEED... WARMTH..." The caveman shouted, from behind, a tidal of shadows seemed to follow the caveman.

Comfortably nestled in her bed, Vaggie and Charlie had long since drifted off into sleep. The storm, while loud, provided a sense of stillness in the air, what with the rain hitting against the windows and booming cry of thunder in the distance. However, this relaxation would come to an abrupt halt as Vaggie groggily opened her eyes to a thumping noise from outside her bedroom door.

"The hell?..." Vaggie groaned, annoyed to be woken up at this hour. The Hispanic Demoness's annoyance would shift into confusion and shock as the door to her bedroom was busted wide open, the handle smashing against the wall with a 'BANG'. Vaggie nearly jumped from her covers while Charlie woke up with a surprised yip, her upper body shooting up from the sudden disturbance.

"Wh-what's going on!?" Charlie shouted with confusion, turning her head to the bedroom's entrance where she, along with Vaggie, saw Oogar standing by their doorframe. A look of clear terror was visible in his eyes while the two demonesses stared at him with a mix of confusion and concern. Vaggie ultimately was the one to speak up during a brief moment of silence.

"Oogar, what are you-" But her comment would promptly be interrupted as Oogar ran towards the bed and flung himself right onto the mattress. The legs holding the bed nearly collapsed in on themselves from the weight of the colossus while Charlie and Vaggie almost lost their balance. Oogar wrapped both his arms around both demonesses and pulled himself closer to them, resting his forehead on their laps.

"H-hey! Oogar, what happened?! Are you okay!?" Charlie asked, worried for the neanderthal's wellbeing.

"C-c-c... Cold..." Oogar barley ushered, quaking with fear.

"Cold?..." Vaggie replied, raising a brow from the caveman's response.

"Cold... Cold is here... The Cold is...here..." The mammoth demon said, his eyes welling up with tears. At this point, Oogar began to break down crying, hiding his face in the covers.

"Warmth... Oogar n-need... warmth..." Oogar wept, the two demonesses unsure of what to do.

"Cold... Cold... Too... Cold..." The caveman ushered on repeat, However, Charlie was the first to respond to the sobbing demon as she reached out and placed a hand on his left shoulder.

"Shhhh... There, there. It's gonna be okay, big guy. We'll protect you from the cold." Charlie warmly assured the caveman, softly stroking his shoulders in a slow, back and forth motion. Upon hearing the hotel owner's words, the caveman craned his neck up to look at Charlie, his eyes still gushing teardrops.

"You protect... Oogar? Protect Oogar... from cold?..." Oogar said before feeling Vaggie caress his other shoulder.

"Of course, Oogar. We promised you'd be safe here and we're gonna do everything in our power to help you. No matter what is, we're here for you." Vaggie said, a small hey hopeful smile forming on her face as she moved her hand from the caveman's shoulder up to his neck to give it a light scratch.

"Exactly! Now, how about we get you back to sleep. How about a sing you a song? My mother used to sing to me whenever I had a nightmare." Charlie asked, to which Oogar replied by nodding his head without the need to say a word.

"Alright, just rest easy and I'll take things from here. Okay?" Charlie said, continuing to rub the caveman's back and shoulder as he rested his head against his caretaker's lap.

"That's it, just close your eyes, and we'll take the rest from here... Shhhhh... It'll be alright, just relax and lay back..." Vaggie calmly assured, continuing to gently caress Oogar's broad, hairy shoulders while Charlie held the caveman's head close to her abdomen before singing a melancholic tune that she was all too familiar with.

"At the end of the rainbow, there's happiness. And to find it, how often I tried..."

As the angelic vocals of Charlie filled the room, Oogar couldn't help but feel an aura of comfort from the melody while the hotel owner's arms gently wrapped around his back as she whispered the calming tune into the behemoth's ear.

"But my life is a race, just a wild goose chase. And my dreams have all been denied..."

Charlie gently cradled the upper half of Oogar's body, rocking him side to side. Meanwhile, Vaggie carefully removed Oogar's helmet and rested it on top of the nightstand so that she could softly skid her fingers across the caveman's head.

"Why have I always been a failure, What can the reason be? I wonder if the world's to blame, I wonder if it could be me..."

The storm continued to rage on from the outside, but Charlie's voice dulled out the heavy rain and the loud crashing of thunder. Her singing calmed the behemoth's sorrows as he struggled to keep his eyes open. Vaggie, wanting to help lull the caveman back to sleep, joined in on the lullaby. Her vocals were a little deeper than Charlie's, but she successfully matched the calming harmony.

"I'm always chasing rainbows, Watching clouds drifting by. My schemes are just like all my dreams, ending in the sky..."

Oogar let out a gentle yawn, slowly but surely shutting his eyes as he nustled up closer between his two caretakers. Still feeling their hands continuing to softly stroke his shoulders and back in a tender manner.

"Some fellows look and find the sunshine, I always look and find the rain, Some fellows make a winning sometime..."

As they continued the lullaby, Charlie's voice sounded rather shaky and choked-up as if she was about to cry at any given moment. She had remembered the first time her mother had sung this song ever since she was a little girl and would often sing it to herself in the bleakest of times.

"I never even make a gain, Believe me..."

A singular tear started to stream down Charlie's face, the hotel owner struggling not to cry. Vaggie reached over to Charlie, placing a hand on her lover's shoulder to help her maintain her composure. Charlie took a deep breath, returning back to her senses, and continued on with the melody.

"I'm always chasing rainbows, Waiting to find a little bluebird..."

Vaggie and Charlie's soothing vocals rung inside of Oogar's mindscape, an inner-warmth enveloping him as the behemoth let out a low yawn. Barely able to keep himself conscious while his caretakers drape a large blanket over his body to keep him warm.

"In vain..."

The lullaby had now come to an end as Oogar's fears had finally disappeared, the beast now drifting back into sleep. He let out an audible snore with both demonesses nestled close to his side. Vaggie let out a quiet sigh of relief, shutting her eyes and dozing back into slumber. Charlie, on the other hand, nuzzled up close to the caveman's side and held him close as if he were a teddy bear.

"Goodnight, Oogar..." Charlie said with a smile, resting her head back onto the pillow before going back to sleep.
