Trina lay in bed staring up at the ceiling, her mind in an uproar over what Joss had shared with her that afternoon on the porch. It made her wonder about what kind of friend she had been to Cam. She had been so willing to just take Joss's words at face value. She had been blind to Cam's emotional state. She had been a horrible friend to Cam. Thank goodness for Spencer being there for him. It all just made her feel so guilty. She should have seen that things weren't right herself. She should have been there for Cam more instead of just believing that he was alright. That he was good with how things were with Joss now.
The buzzing of her phone signaling a text message tore her from her thoughts. She reached out and picked it off the nightstand, wondering who could be texting her at this hour. She smiled as Spencer's picture flashed across the screen.
Hey…what are you doing awake?…
….
I have plans for us. Be packed and ready tomorrow by ten. We're going on a road trip.
….
A road trip? Really? Just you and me? Are you serious?…
….
Just you and me. I was thinking that we can tour New England.
….
I'd love to! Thank you! I will be waiting!
….
Pick you up in front of Joss's mom's house.
….
Ok. Thank you, Spencer. I'm looking forward to spending some time alone with you.
….
I'm looking forward to it too, baby. See you tomorrow.
Trina turned off her phone and smiled up at the ceiling. Tomorrow, she will be getting away with her boyfriend. Alone time with Spencer. It was what the doctor had ordered.
…..
Trina got up bright and early the next day and began packing her bags. She didn't know how long she was going to be gone, so she decided to pack all of her clothes for the trip. From what Spencer said, they'll be touring all of New England, which meant six or seven states. She shook her head, wondering if her boyfriend even knew what he was doing. Oh well, it didn't matter. Whatever came of this adventure, they would be together, alone. No Esme. No Ace. No mother and two dads wanting her attention. It's been her and Spencer, Bonnie and Clyde, and she and her boyfriend!
"Trina? I thought you weren't leaving yet?" Joss stood in the doorway of the room, her eyes hurt as she watched her friend pack.
"Spencer texted me last night. He's taking me on a road trip. He'll be here at ten. I don't know how long we'll be gone, so I'm packing all of my clothes…"
"Oh. That sounds like fun. Maybe Dex and I can join…"
"NO! I mean, no. That's not a good idea, Joss. You know that Spencer and Dex hate each other. It's time we accepted that and stop trying to get them to get along. Besides, Spencer and I need this alone time together. We haven't had one since we came back from Greenland. We need this trip to be just for us…"
"So you're not doing this because you're mad at me?"
"Not to be rude, but not everything is about you, Joss. Look, just enjoy your time with Dex. With me gone, you can spend all of your time with him without worrying about neglecting our friendship."
"Enjoy your time with Spencer too, Trina. Goodness knows you deserve it. Now that you're leaving town, there will be no Esme and Ace to interrupt you."
Trina paused in her packing and frowned. "That's right. It's strange that he's so willing to leave Esme alone with Ace like this...I wonder…"
"Trina, don't wonder about it! I'm sure that he has someone keeping an eye on them. Just let him take you away and spoil you some. See some sights together! Don't worry about things here."
"You're right. I think way too much," Trina rubbed her eyes. Her eyes widened as she remembered something. "Oh damn, the Chuck! I have to work today…"
"Didn't you hear?"
"What?"
"It was on the morning news. A car ran into the building. A drunk driver. They're going to be closed for a bit...check your phone…"
Trina frowned and scrolled through her messages and gasped. "You're right. They said it'll be a couple of months before they open again. Damn...well, that takes care of that…"
"Trina...before you go...I just want you to know that I am so sorry for not telling you the truth about how I had broken up with Cam. I am sorry for all of it and I promise to do better when you return."
Trina simply nodded, not sure how to take Joss's words. Actions spoke louder, but she won't be seeing those actions until she's back from the trip that Spencer's wanting to take her on. "We'll see what happens when I get back."
Joss simply nodded. "Ok. Well, I'll let you get back to your packing. Have fun, Trina."
Trina watched her friend leave the room and felt a little bad. She shouldn't have been so standoffish at the end, but she couldn't help it. The trust she had in Joss was broken. Maybe some time apart will help repair it. Only time would tell.
…..
With her bags all packed and ready to go, Trina decided to go see Taggert and Curtis before she took off for her trip. Both men weren't happy that she was leaving the state with Spencer Cassadine, but they didn't argue with her, knowing that it was useless to do so. So they bid her goodbye and to have a good time and keep in touch.
Portia had been another story. She had outright forbade Trina to go anywhere with that boy. She said that Trina was too young to take such a trip. That Spencer would only get her in trouble and that she was too naive. Trina had just quietly walked away. She didn't even dignify her mother's words with a response. She was hurt that Portia thought so little of her, but what could she do but go ahead and live her life on her own terms anyway. So she returned to Joss's house, picked up her bags, and sat on the porch swing to wait for Spencer's arrival.
…..
Spencer was running late. He had to pack up the rest of his clothes and then he spent the remaining few hours with Ace, telling him that everything was going to be ok. That some scary things may happen, and he may have to go with strangers for a little bit, but that their cousin Sam had promised to be there for him and that Spencer himself would return to make sure that Ace was good. Esme had called a day off, much to Spencer's surprise and she had tried to once again engage him in conversation, but he had dipped out as soon as he could and drove over to his Uncle Sonny's, there he had talked for a little too long to his Uncle. But now, he was pulling up in front of Joss's house and couldn't help but smile to see Trina packed and ready for their trip.
"There you are," She jogged down the stairs to his convertible. He popped the trunk open and got out to help put her bags inside.
"I'm sorry I was late. I had stopped to talk to Uncle Sonny and time got away from us," Spencer apologized.
"It's okay. You're here now," Trina smiled and leaned in for a kiss that went on a few seconds too long. She giggled as they came apart, needing to breathe. "So where are we off to?"
"Maine."
"Maine? What's in Maine?"
"I don't know. But it's going to be fun to find out," Spencer grinned, playfully wiggling his eyebrows.
"So you're taking me to Maine, at the spur of the moment. No itinarary, no plans...no schedule?"
"Which makes it all the more fun, yeah?"
"Please tell me that you at least arranged a hotel room or something."
"Of course I have and once we get there, we'll plan out what we want to see. I thought it'd be more fun and adventurous that way."
Trina just gave him a skeptical look and then shrugged, accepting his plans. Just as long as they were together and there were no longer any interruptions, she was happy.
