I don't own twilight. What I own is my character's, personality, background, and the plot of my story.
Author's Note at the end.
Edward looks at Bella in alarm for a second, before he runs around the swing and falls on the ground beside Cece and starts looking her over and checking all of her limbs. "Cece, I am so sorry baby. I am so sorry. Do you feel any pain? Are you okay?"
Oblivious to the horror in Edward's voice and his glassy eyes, Cece starts giggling before she tells him, "That was so much fun. I am happy. Can we do it again?"
Finally, Bella manages to move her limbs and kneels between Cece and Edward before she tells her, "I think Edward had enough fun for today. How about you go down the slides now? Edward and I will watch you from the bench."
Cece nods her head aggressively in excitement, some hair strands falling from her ponytail and then gets up and runs to the slide. Bella stands up and waits for Edward to follow her. It takes him a couple of tries before his knees stop shaking enough for him to stand up. Once he stands up, Bella takes his elbow and ignores the sense of familiarity that she feels as she leads him the bench she was just sitting on. She leaves him on the bench and keeps an eye on Cece as she makes a run to her car to get a water bottle. With Edward in shock, he is no state to keep an eye on Cece.
She sits beside him and gently places a bottle of water in his hands. His fist slowly closes around it and he raises his eyes to look at Bella and she realizes that he is silently crying.
"Drink the water. Cece is okay," she tells him in an encouraging tone. She wants to tear him a new one. It doesn't matter if Cece is okay or not. She could have been hurt, but with the sight in front of her, it's obvious that she doesn't need to as he is doing that all to himself.
Once he drinks the whole bottle, she takes it from him and asks him, "Would you like me to tell you about the first time I gave Cece a bath?"
When he nods his head, she launches into the story.
Her dad stands in front of her with his arms crossed. "I still don't think that this is a good idea."
Bella huffs a breathe and drags her body into standing and then tells him, "Come one dad. We have been over this. I feel better, the best since I started chemo. I mean she is almost 10 months old and I haven't bathed her even once since she was born. I want to do it. I feel strong enough to do it."
"Okay then. Let me at least stay in the bathroom with you. Maybe you will need my help."
Bella rolls her eyes at her father and tells him, "l have seen you and Maria bath Cece enough to know what to do."
Bella is sick and tired of the fact that everyone seems to take care of her daughter except her. Maria, the retired nurse her dad hired to take care of her and Cece when he isn't around, takes care of Cece all the time. She does most of her feedings. She plays with her. She takes walks with her. She baths her and puts her to sleep. The same thing is done by Charlie when he is around.
Bella does nothing but watch from the sidelines her daughter be parented by anyone but her. That is, if she is stong enough to even watch her daughter. She has been either too tired to move, or parked in the bathroom with her arms hugging the proclaim God.
A month ago, she finished chemo. She has been slowly getting back to move and keep things down. She has even started being able to hold her daughter for prolonged periods of time, 15 minutes to be exact. That's how she knows that she will be able to do it on her own. Cece's bath's don't last that long. She will finally take care of her daughter and give her a bath.
"Fine," her dad sighs loudly and then tells her, "I will leave, but if you need anything, call for me, okay? I will be in the room next door."
She nods her head with a grin at the edge of her lips as she watches her dad leave the bathroom. "Dad?" she calls out to him.
He stops in the doorway and turns to look at her expectingly.
"I love you," she tells him then blows him a kiss. Just like he used to do when she was a kid, he makes the motion of catching something in the air and pocketing it, as if she literally threw him something.
"So miss Cece, its just me and you," Bella states softly as she cradles Cece in her arm.
Cece gurgle's softly and Bella laughs and tells her, "You don't have to worry. Mummy loves you and wants to take care of you.
Cece gurgle's more and then smiles at Bella a smile that puts the sun and the stars to shame. Bella slowly lowers herself to sit on the edge of the bathtub and gazes lovingly at her daughter. She lightly runs her fingertips across Cece's tuft of hair at the top of her skull careful of the still soft head. She didn't expect her daughter's hair to be this long by now. She read that it takes time to grow someone's hair after chemo and even when it does, initially the growth process is extremely slow. Cece's chemo lasted three months, so it's not as long as Bella's, but still, Bella didn't expect Cece's hair to be this long this fast.
A thud somewhere in the house alerts Bella to the fact that she was zoning out. Shaking her head, she turns on the facet and adjusts the temperature until it is at the optimal one, just like her dad taught her. She fills the cup with water and slowly pours it on Cece's head. She holds Cece with one arm and pours the water with the other. Once done with that, she pumps some baby shampoo on her free hand and rub it on Cece's head. Once done, she washes her shampoo covered hand so she can wash off the shampoo of Cece's hair.
She notices then that she hasn't been good at shutting the facet and now the tub is filled a third way through. She rolls her eyes at her own idiocy and fills the cup with water and pours it over Cece's head.
Despite her best efforts at tilting her head backward, Bella still manages to get some soap and water in Cece's eyes. "Oh, please don't whimper. I am trying baby."
When all of the soap is gone, Bella fills the cup with more water and slowly pours it over Cece's body. As she does that, she notices the hand holding Cece's start to shake from the effort.
Bella pauses for a second and contemplates calling her dad. "No, we won't. If I ask him to come, he will never let me give you a bath again. We will do this together, right Cece? Yes we will," Bella states confidently talking to herself.
Bella wets a baby lofa and pumps some baby body wash over it and once the body wash is spread on the lofa, she starts rubbing it gently in circles against her body. Suddenly, her arm gives out on her.
She watches in horror as her baby falls from her arm. The water splashes against her body as Cece's body impacts it. Bella is frozen for a second. She tries to cry out to her dad, but no sound comes out. Her body won't move. She feels her arms try to reach out to stop it from happening, do something, or take her out, but nothing happens. First, her her hand betrayed her, and now it's her whole body.
Then just like that, a sound comes out of her and by some miracle she gets Cece out of the bath tub and places her on a towel on the floor, but it over now. Everything she did is of no use. She is a monster.
She hears the door open in the distance and seconds later feels arms rubbing her and some words make their way into her head. "Bella please tell me what happened? What's wrong baby? What can I do?"
She feels herself shake her head and she manages to tell him, "I killed Cece. I killed my own daughter. I am a monster."
"No you didn't."
"Yes I did. I am a monster. I am a terrible person," she cries out.
"Bella, Cece is okay. I promise. Everything is okay darling. Just open your eyes and look at her," her dad tells her gently.
She shakes her head and her father tells her, "Bella? Come on darling. Just open your eyes and look at her."
"You are lying. You are just saying that to make me feel better," she manages to get out in between her wails.
"Baby, please just open your eyes and look at her," Her dad pleads with her.
"No, you are just lying to make me stop crying," she shrieks at him.
She feels a hands placed on her shoulder and feels her dad rub her shoulder before telling her, "I promise I am not lying. Think of it. If I was lying, would I tell you to open your eyes."
"You promise you aren't lying," she questions whimpering at the end.
"Yes, I do. Please open your eyes. This little one needs to see her mummy's gorgeous eyes," her father tells her gently.
She opens her eyes and realises that she had been covering her face with her hands all along. She spots her daughter in her dad's arms very much alive alive.
She blinks twice, thinking that her eyes are deceiving her and a cry bursts out of her mouth beyond her control. "Oh my baby. You are okay!" she exclaims and snatches her from her dad and squeezes her to her chest not caring that she is making her top wet.
"Oh, baby. I am so, so, so sorry. I promise I will never ever do that again."
Her sight falls on her dad who is smiling at her with glassy eyes and she cries out, "Daddy, she is okay. Cece is okay. I didn't kill her. Can you believe that?"
Charlie nods his head and hugs both of them tightly as he tells her, "Yes, I do baby. Yes, I do."
Edward looks at her in shock once she is done telling him what happened. "That must have been terrible. And here I thought that I had it bad."
Bella hugs her self tightly and pulls her jacket around herself. Every time she remembers the event she feels shaken up and gets jittery for a couple of minutes. That event impacted her more than anyone can imagine. She refused to bath Cece for six months after that. She wouldn't even hold her while standing for a year. She would only when sitting and even then, she would place a pillow on her lap and place Cece on it.
She turns to him and tells him, "I am not telling you this to make you feel bad or compare experiences. This isn't a pissing contest. I would burn this city down if that is what she needs to feel better. I am telling you this because I want you to understand that kids will heal. Unless you do something astronomically bad, she will be okay. As long as you are careful things will be alright at the end of the day."
Edward nods his head silently even though he wants to argue with her. This isn't the time to argue. He knows when Bella is on the verge of a mental breakdown when he sees one. She is barely holding it together. She is hugging herself. Both of her knees are bouncing. Her left shoulder jerks up every couple of minutes.
"Edward, my mistake then wasn't listening to the one who knew more than me, dad. Please don't make my mistake again. If I tell you to not do something, it's not because I am playing a game with you. It's because I have more experience than you. Whatever I tell you is something I was either taught by someone, or had to learn the hard way."
Hello lovely people,
I wanna apologize for the late update. I know that I should have updated the chapter 13 hours ago, but I am extremely sick. Vomiting is terrible any day, but when you are fasting it's even worse. Anyways, don't worry about me. I will be okay. Just don't be surprised if the next chapter arrives a little bit late. I still have to write it and edit it, and that takes time. I hope you can forgive me since this chapter is over two thousand words which is longer than it's supposed to be.
I have two things to comment on. I have seen some of you be angry at Bella in the review section which I found surprising. Bella was traumatized by Edward. It will take her a long time to trust Edward with Cece and a longer time to trust him with her heart. Please don't judge her harshly. It's only normal. In such situations, a person can't be careful enough.
Second of all, I am not a mum. I have no experience with kids beyond being the eldest daughter with four younger siblings. If you feel like there is something I am portraying inaccurately please let me know.
Please leave a comment in the review section. It could be your favorite part, thoughts, feeling, or even criticism. Any and every comment you leave is read and taken into consideration. Your comments motivate me to update faster, and help me grow as a writer.
Until my next update,
Stay Safe
