I don't own twilight. What I own is my character's behavior, personality, background, and the plot of my story.

Have a fun read.

Edward could not focus on anything for the rest of the week. Everywhere he looked, he saw her. Her voice haunted his every waking moment. It was impossible for him to escape her.

She is everywhere, and nowhere because it is all in his head.

It's as if seeing her has broken this dam inside of him. That's what he finds himself thinking, during dinner with his family. Tanya kicks him in the chin. He looks up and finds everyone at the table looking at him, "What?" he asks.

"Your father was asking you how the McGrath case is going?" his mother asks him. He looks at his dad and tells him it's fine. That's the end of his contribution to the discussions around the table.

Everyone around him is happily chatting with their significant other.

Him?

He is sitting beside the person his significant other thinks he looks cute with.

His father complements his mother's cooking. Jasper raves about the cake Alice made that they are about to have with coffee. Rosalie is lecturing Emmett and their son on the appropriateness of having an eating contest during family dinner. Everyone is having fun, he isn't.

He feels a hand squeeze his. He looks to his right and finds Tanya smiling at him. He tries to smile back but it comes out more of a grimace than a smile. He squeezes her hand anyways and she returns his squeeze.

He gets up and takes her plate and his to the kitchen. When she tries to help he tells her, "You are a guest. You won't do any work."

Saying those words transports him back to a time when he told another person, "you may not be a guest, but I am a gentleman," while carrying a different set of plates.

He places them in the sink and starts washing them. He hears from behind him, "Are you okay son?"

He looks behind him and finds his mum. "Yeah," he replies. He continues washing the dishes in the sink.

"Considering that you have been washing the same plate for the last five minutes, I don't think you are fine," she tells him softly.

"I ran into Bella," he sighs.

His mum is silent for a minute. He doesn't look back to see her reaction as he says that. He is not prepared to see anyone's reaction to that.

A crack sounds in the air. He looks at his hands and finds the plate in it broken.

His mum reaches for the hand gripping the plate and takes it from him before it cuts his hands.

He takes the towel from her and dries his hands silently after she throws the glass pieces in the trash.

"How did it go?" She asks him as she holds his hands in hers and inspects them.

"There is nothing wrong with my hands," he tells her as he tries to pull from her.

She holds his hands tighter and says, "that is not what I asked."

He refused to look at her. For a full minute he stares to his right through the window. Finally, he says while continuing to not look at her, "She introduced us as an acquaintance to Tanya and told her we look cute together," he replies his voice hollow and devoid of any emotion.

Holding back his tears turns into a losing battle as one rolls down his left cheek. He still refuses to look at her as she hugs him. His shoulders start to shake as she rubs his back in soothing circles and hugs him tighter.

A minute later he starts feeling awkward and pulls away from his mum. She wipes away the tears under his eyes. He looks to his right and watches his family have the time of their lives as he says, "She is okay. She is over me. I just don't understand," he pauses for a second his voice cracking as he says the next part, "If we were not meant to be. If getting over us was that easy for her. Why does every breath I have feel like the last when I am away from her?"

"I don't know son. Everything will work itself out in the end. That is not what we need to be thinking about. What you need to think of is the poor girl sitting in our living room. You are not being fair dating her while being in love with another."

Edward nods his head looking resigned.

Edward drives Tanya home with the intent of breaking up with her, but then she starts rambling about how much she enjoys hanging out with his family, and how nice they are to her. He drops her off without breaking up with her.

She kissed him on his cheek before she got out of the car, or maybe it was on the lips, he doesn't remember. He had more important things going on in his mind, like what will he do now that Bella is back.
