I don't own twilight. What I own is my character's behavior, personality, background, and the plot of the story.
Author's Note at the end.
Before Bella or Edward could react, Cece was off the couch and running up the stairs to her bedroom. Bella glance at Edward her eyes filled with pity before she runs after Cece leaving Edward alone with his thoughts.
Cece's statement felt like a slap to the face. Edward feels light weight as his shoulders sag. This is the price he will pay for his shitty behavior toward Bella. Maybe Cece can sense that he wasn't good to her mum and is now choosing to reject him? This the ultimate price he will pay; being resented by his only child for the rest of his life.
For the longest time it feels like Edward is in a bubble of his own thoughts until Bella's voice filters through his mind. "Cecelia, you have the right to be angry. You have the right to be sad. You have the right to say what you want to say, but as your mum I have the right to understand why you said those things and Edward deserves respect."
Edward then realizes that it's not over for him. This discussion isn't over even if he isn't a part of it's rest. The most stubborn person he knows is Bella and if she states that the conversation isn't over, then they aren't done. He will not be on the sidelines. He will see this conversation to the end.
He gets up and walks to the stairs where he climbs until he reaches Bella. "Cece, can we please talk before I leave. Once we are done speaking, if you still think I should leave, I will, but please let's talk," Edwards tells her begging by the end of his speech.
The door swings open and he smiles before his eyes catch Cece's stony gaze. "Mummy tell him to leave. I don't want him here."
Edward rubs his face anxiously as he tells her, "Cece, I know that you angry."
"Shut up," Cece screams at him and then at a lower voice tells him, "You aren't my friend. Don't call me Cece. Only my friends call me that. Shut up and go away."
Bella takes Cece's chin in her hand and makes Cece face her then tells her in a firm tone, "Cece, that is no way to speak to anyone. You can be angry but you can't be disrespectful."
Cece glares back angrily and twists her arms across her chest as she tells her, "He doesn't deserve my respect. You once said that I should never give my respect to someone who doesn't deserve it."
Bella takes a deep breath then pushes Cece's hair back and tells her, "Sweetie, I know that you are angry at Edward but that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve your respect."
"He doesn't deserve my respect," replies stubbornly.
"I understand that you are angry sweetie. I would be angry to, but he loves you and wants to be your daddy." Sometimes when your child is angry, or being difficult, they need to have the thing told to them a couple of times for them to finally listens, but also Bella has no idea what else she could tell her. All Cece does is say that Edward needs to shut up. She doesn't express her anger, ask questions or even tell him that he is a terrible person. What else can she say but that?
Cece's shoulders sag and she answers her mum, "He doesn't love me."
Before Bella could react to her sentence or even ask her where her assumption came from, Edward tells her, "Of course I do. I love you with all of my heart."
Cece shakes her head as she tells him, "Liar. If you loved me you wouldn't have left. You would have stayed my whole life. You don't deserve to be my daddy, not like my mummy does."
Edward looks at his hands feeling guilty as he tells her, "That's not how being sick works."
"Lies. Mummy was sick. Mummy was so sick but she stayed. She didn't leave. She didn't go away. She had me even though it made her sicker," Cece screams at him.
Bella is taken by surprise by what she heard. Where did Cece get this information from? She isn't even old enough to understand what abortion, or cancer is, let alone know that you can't get treatment for it while being sick.
"Sweetie, what are you talking about?" Bella asks trying to make sense of this entire conversation.
Cece bursts into tears and throws herself at her mum. Bella hugs her back fiercely trying to understand what her daughter is going through.
Between her cries, Cece tells her, "I heard Grandpa once speaking with Uncle Harry when he thought I was sleeping. He told him that you had to wait until I was born to get medicine and because of that you became even more sick. You loved me so much that you couldn't not have me. After I was born, you were always sick. Sometimes you couldn't even hold me because you were so tired, but you still wanted me. You loved me. Even though you were sick, I have known you my whole life. I don't know him. I don't want him. I happy with just you. I have a strong mummy already. I don't need a week daddy."
Hello lovely people,
I found this chapter, surprisingly easy to write. It wasn't emotionally draining the way I assumed it would be. Or maybe because I slept for less than four hours there is nothing to drain.
Something that a lot of people might find surprising is that kids have a strong sense of fairness. In Cece's mind, she thinks it's unfair to her mum that despite being sick, she never left her while Edward gets to not tale responsibility of her while sick and assume that once he feels better he can come back.
