I don't own twilight. What I own is my character's behavior, personality, background, and the plot of the story.
Author's note at the end of the chapter.
Edward rubs his hands together. He is a mixed ball of excitement and nerves. When Bella told him that Cece is ready to spend time with him alone without her supervision he was ecstatic. This is what he has been working toward for the last two years. This is what twenty-eight years have been building up to.
He hears heavy footsteps becoming louder and he doesn't even need to consciously think of smiling as his smile threatens to crack his face. "Hey, how are you doing Angela?"
Angela smiles at him as she steps aside to let him in and answers, "I am doing good. You?"
Edward gives her a look that makes her say, "Don't answer that. My question was stupid."
Edward gives a slight nod as he stays silent. "Cece is very excited," Angela informs him.
Edward smiles at that and then asks her after a couple of seconds of silence, "Where is Bella? I wanna run where we are going by her to make sure things will be fine."
"Bella is at work. She has a late meeting," Angela tells him apologetically.
"Ohh," Edward mutters dismayed. How will he make sure that what he has in mind is okay? He gets an idea.
"Do you mind if I run it by you?" Edward asks Angela not letting Bella's absence get to him.
Angela sighs and tells him, "Edward, if Bella didn't think you were ready to handle the responsibility of taking Cece alone, she wouldn't have let you. True your guts and check with Cece. She will tell you if she doesn't like something or it's unacceptable."
Edward doesn't get the chance to answer as Cece runs down the stairs and stands in front of him. She doesn't hug him, but that is okay. She will get there.
"Are you ready?" He asks her.
Cece nods her head and Angela claps her hands then tells them, "Then, I think you are ready."
Edward nods his head and follows Angela then steps out of the door followed by Cece. They wave at Angela then walk to his car.
After he gets in, he asks her, "So, do you have anything in mind? A place to go to?"
Cece just shrugs her shoulder and then tells him, "Mummy said you will pick the place. If I knew that you wanted my help, I would have made a list."
Edward smiles at her and asks her, "How about we go to the arcade? Have you ever been there?"
"I love the arcade. I go there with Grandpa all the time," Cece answers.
"Your grandpa?" Edward asks raising an eyebrow. The stiff and proper, no-nonsense Charlie Swan going to an arcade?
Cece nods her head and tells him, "Yeah. Grandpa always says that playing games is a skill set that benefit no one, but he secretly loves the arcade."
Edward tells her, "So, should we go there?"
Cece tilts her head to the left to think for a moment and then tells him, "We can go there."
Bella turns the key and walks into her home to find it mostly dark. "Cece, where are you?" she calls into the house.
She places her car keys in a drawer in the foyer and places her coat in the coat closet. "Cece," she calls again as she steps into the kitchen and takes a water bottle out of the fridge.
"She isnt here yet," a voice answers behind her.
Bella jumps in surprise before she turns around and finds Angela starting at her. "You scared me."
"Cece isn't here. Edward and her haven't returned yet," Angela informs her.
"What do you mean? They should be back already," Bella states while returning the water bottle to the fridge.
"Cece called on Edward's phone and told me that she and Edward are bringing dinner so they can have it with you," Angela answers her.
"Are you kidding me!" Bella exclaims in frustiration. She didn't let Cece hang out with him alone so that they would have dinner together. She walks up the stairs and changes into a pair of sweatpants and a hoodie.
"Bella," Edward calls to her.
She lookup and finds both Cece and him staring at her. "What is it?" She asks.
"There is something I need to talk to you about," He tells her.
Bella rubs her face then asks him, "Is it important?"
He nods his head and tells her, "It's something want to tell you and Cece."
Bella assumes then that Edward needs her to be present while he talks to Cece to make sure she is okay with what he is saying. "I am pretty sure that whatever you want to talk to Cece about is fine. I have some work. I will be in my office while you tell her," she finishes and then gets up but Edward follows her.
"Bella, it's not for Cece alone. It concerns you. Please come back."
"Fine," Bella says huffing and then follows Edward back into the living room.
"So, since Cece didn't like my original birthday gift, I brought her another one," Edward states nervously before he takes a folded envelope out of his pocket.
"I am sorry that it doesn't look better but my pocket is small, so I had to fold it," Edward states apologetically.
Bella gives Cece a look and Cece turns to Edward and thanks him. "Open it," Edward requests.
Bella nods her head and opens the envelope and finds two airplane tickets and Disney passes. She looks up at Edward and gives him a questioning look.
"Cece told me that she has never been to Disney land in America. She told me that she went to the one in France but not here. I thought that it would be fun for both of you to go there together."
Bella looks down at the pair of passes and tickets frowning as she tells him, "I can pay for myself."
Edward smiles at her and answers, "I know that you can but I want to. Consider it a gift for all the mother's days I missed."
Bella opens her mouth to argue with him then closes it. She wants to tell him that she doesn't want gifts for him. She wants to tell him that she doesn't want to deal with him more than she has to. She wants to tell him that his gift means that now she has to get him gifts too. She wants to tell him that they aren't friends and will never be friends, so she doesn't bother.
She doesn't say anything else and instead answers, "Thank you."
I will put the cost into Cece's college saving account. That way, he won't be paying for anything.
Hello lovely people,
A skill set that benefits no one, is something my dad used to say all the time about many things. That said, unlike Charlie, my father was very loyal to this statement and never did anything that fell under it.
So, this chapter came sometime later than usual and that is because the schedule of updating has changed slightly. Instead of updating every thirty hours, I will be updating every two days. That is an eighteen-hour increase.
I didn't want to do this. I had hoped that I would be able to keep up with my original updating schedule but I can't. The multiple commitments I have mean have been making me feel exhausted, so I have been taking measures to slow down on all levels. I don't want to burn out suddenly and need a break form writing. Writing is the most fun and full filling thing in my life and I don't want to have to take a break from it.
