I don't own twilight. What I own is my character's behavior, personality, background, and the plot of my story.
Author's Note at the end.
He almost takes her words seriously, almost.
"Don't be ridiculous Tanya," he tells her rolling his eyes. She huff's out loudly then slowly walks towards him and drops on the couch to his left him.
"You don't believe me. You think I am making things up, aren't you?" she asks him looking hurt and scoots to the opposite side of the couch looking away from him.
"What? No babe. that is not it, at all. It's just that sometimes you tend to get some ideas in your head and you wholeheartedly believe them without conclusive evidence."
She turns to him sharply as she says, "My evidence might not be conclusive but it is real and quite damning."
"What is it?" he asks taking her hand in his.
"Oh, now I won't. You have it in your head that it is not real and you will not take any word I say seriously," she argues giving him her back and snatching her hands away from his.
He scoots closer to her and hugs her stating, "I am sorry that I made you think that I will make fun of you. If you tell me I won't." Truth is, he doesn't believe Tanya. He is probing because he is starting to question his loyalty to Tanya. Things have been strange between them lately. He wants to know if she made that up to cover up something else.
"You promise," she whispers hugging him back.
"I do," he replies kissing her forehead and then pulling back to look at her.
"I was working late three days ago when I heard loud noises coming from his office. When I got closer to his office I realized that it was her and dad arguing. They start yelling and cursing at each other. Most of what they say doesn't make sense but then he threatens to take Cece. Why would he make such a threat, if he is not the dad and has the power to do so? Do the math. You know that mum died a year ago. It couldn't have happened after that which means he cheated on her."
"Cece doesn't look like your dad," he tells her. He couldn't begin to cover all the mistakes in her argument but for some reason beyond his understanding, this is the first thought that pops into his head.
"They share the same hair color," Tanya replies tucking her hair behind her ear. Her defense is not as useful as she thinks it is. Cece's hair has a red hue while Eleazar's is more leaning toward brown.
"Cece and Marco share the same eye color," Edward points out to her.
"Cece has eyes like yours," she rebuttals.
Edward claps his hand and replies, "Exactly, just because two people share features doesn't automatically mean that they are related."
"Well, I believe that they had an affair and that's final," she tells him huffing in frustration and crossing her arms across her chest.
"Tan, I see where you are coming from but you can't just throw around claims without more evidence. A number of thing could have made your dad say that. Maybe, he didn't even mean it literally. Maybe it was metaphorical," he tells her while rubbing her arm soothingly.
"How would he metaphorically take Cece from her?" She asks him not believing the crap he is spewing.
Edward shoves his fingers through his hair in frustration as he takes a deep breath to calm himself down before he tells her, "I don't know, but let's think rationally for one second. Regardless of anything, Eleazar would never invite controversy or scandal into his life."
"So you will help me find evidence?" Tanya asks him looking hopeful.
"Of course, I won't. I don't even believe her. What she is saying is plain lunacy," Edward exclaims into the AirPods in his ears as he drives towards Tanya's office to take her to their weekly lunch.
"Then why did you tell her that you do and will help her?" Emmett asks in his ear.
"Because then she will tell me everything she finds out," he answers turning the steering wheel left and entering the underground parking.
Emmett is silent for a couple of minutes before he finally says, "listen, man, you need to let it go. She moved on. You should too." Edward is switching gears while parking and is too busy concentrating on that to think of what Emmett told him.
"Who is she?"
"Bella."
"Oh. Yeah, I get what you mean. That isn't why I am doing it even though it did cross my mind," he tells him dismissively then continues, "I was thinking more along the lines of using whatever she tells me to dig dirt on Eleazer. He has been getting on my nerves lately and I want to be sure that if things go south I have something to attack him with."
"Dude, that's even more sinister than my earlier thoughts. You can't use your girlfriend to find dirt on her dad. That's shady," Emmett tells him.
"Well, he started the shady business when he paid off my girlfriend to dump me so his daughter could date me," Edward points out shrugging his shoulders even though Emmett can't see him.
"I don't believe that. Bella wouldn't do it," Emmett states with confidence.
"Then why would she go along with it?" Edward asks.
"I don't know. What I do know is that Bella didn't cheat on you and she was not paid to break up with you."
Emmett's comment marks the end of their discussion. After planning their bowling trip they end their phone call. Edward gets out of his car and gets on the elevator. On his way up, he thinks of all the possible ways for Eleazar to screw him over if he pissed him off or broke up with his girlfriend.
Eleazar is an investor in the Law firm he works at. He could get the partners to fire him and make sure no one ever hires him again. He could also go even further and try to frame him for something that would make him lose his license. For the hundredth time, he curses himself for getting involved with this family.
The elevator stops at Tanya's floor and he gets off it. When he passes by Bella's office he hears a loud thud. Out of curiosity, he pauses to listen.
Look who developed anger management issues and started throwing shit around since we broke up.
"Marco, I am so sorry I promise it won't happen again. I didn't mean it," he hears Bella plead.
"You can't keep doing that Bella. Your openness with people was about to bite us in the ass if I didn't get involved."
It takes Edward a minute to realize who is speaking. Partly because he expected to hear a stranger, but more so because he was hearing the speaker for the first time not speaking with an Italian accent.
A new surprise, did anyone anticipate it?
I hope you liked this chapter, leave me your thoughts in a review and I will reply to them like I always do.
One of you guys left a review saying that they are waiting for someone to come back from the dead.
Don't give me ideas. I am crazy enough to do it and egotistical enough to think I can make it work.
But on a more serious note, I want to give you a hint about my characters. I divide the ones I write into three types.
The "know it all". Those are the ones that know everything. They have all the facts and can manipulate you into believing anything they want you to. This category includes Bella, Eleazar, and Marco/Jacob.
The "throw shots in the dark and be pissed when I missed some". Those are the ones that think they know everything but they don't. The only way for them to become part of the "know it all" is if they were clued in. This category includes Edward primarily and the Cullens to varying degrees.
The "what are you doing here?". Those are people that if life is a theater then they are always walking onto the wrong stage. Those are the people who are always notoriously wrong, case in point; Tanya.
In other words, this will never turn into a soap opera. I can promise you this. That said just because a character believes something or says it doesn't automatically make it right.
Until next update,
Stay safe.
