I don't own Twilight. What I own is my character's behavior, personality, background, and the plot of the story.
Author's note at the end of the chapter.
Edward is irritated. He is irritated with Cece, a thing he never thought would happen. He isn't "I want to punch a wall" level of irritated. It's more along the lines of "I wanna hit my head against a wall".
For the last thirty minutes, Cece has made him replay the stupid song while singing out loud too. The first time, it was funny. The second time, it was cute. By the fifth time, he started wishing that his daughter doesn't have such a strong personality.
He takes the turn that leads him to Bella's street and once he spots her house, his heart drops. "Sweetie, stay here, okay?" he tells her parking the car haphazardly and getting out of it.
He runs to the open front door and knocks. "Bella, where are you?"
When no one answers, Edward pushes the door open all the way and steps in. He walks into the foyer and calls Bella's name again. He goes to the kitchen and finds no one. He leaves the kitchen and goes to the living room.
What he finds turns his blood into ice.
"Bella?" he cries out as he falls to the ground beside her. He finds her lying on the ground unconscious in a pool of her own blood. He feels for a pulse and finds a faint one. He raises her shirt and to his horror finds a bullet wedged into her left side.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck! What will I do?" he mutters to himself looking around trying to think of what to do. He gets up and runs to the nearest bathroom and takes the two towels he finds in it.
He drops to the ground near Bella then wraps the smaller towel around her waist to try and stop the bleeding then gets up and runs out of the door to the car and opens the back door.
Facing his daughter, he kisses her forehead then takes her face in his hands and tells her, "Cece, sweetie, mummy is a little bit sick, so I will bring her to the car and then you and I are going to take her to the hospital, okay?"
Sensing his fear, she asks him, "Is she okay?"
Edward nods his head and kisses his daughter's forehead again then runs back to the front door only to remember then that he has the blanket he uses for camping with Emmett in the trunk. He returns to the car and takes the blanket out. At least this way Cece won't see the blood.
He returns to the living room and wraps the blanket around Bella then picks her up and runs to the car with her in his arm. He throws open the door and sits Bella upright and then puts on her seatbelt for her.
Edward is closing the door when he hears something that makes him stop in his tracks. "Why is mummy not awake?"
"Sweetie, mummy is just sleeping. Just like you are when sick," he tells her then closes the door and goes around to his side of the car.
"But mummy wasn't sick when I left this morning," she tells him.
He opens his mouth to tell her another lie but the look in her eyes stops him. It mirrors his eyes. Both of them are sick to their stomach with fear. Somehow, despite not knowing the details, Cece has sensed his fears and understood that it's not a simple cold. There is more to it than that.
"Let's just go to the hospital and hope the best happens," he finally tells her as he presses on the accelerator and drives the car like a bat out of hell.
He leaves horns blaring and people chasing in his wake as he makes impossible twists and crazy turns.
He looks in the rearview mirror to check on Cece and Bella. Bella's face has lost even more color than when he placed her in the car. He looks at Cece and finds her biting her nails.
"Cece, everything is good in the back?" he asks her as he presses the brakes to stop in front of a traffic light.
"Can you call grandpa?" she requests timidly.
He nods his head and tells her, "Smart idea," then picks up his phone and dials Charlie's number.
"Hello," Charlie's voice comes after three rings.
"Charlie this is Edward. I need you to meet me at Chicago general. We are a minute away from it," Edward states quickly.
"What's wrong?" Charlie asks sounding all serious as shuffling sounds echo in the background.
"Bella needs medical attention. I am driving her with Cece in the car with me. Please meet me there and I will tell you what I know," Edward mutters then hangs up not wanting to go into details and have him come as soon as possible.
He pulls into a parking in front of the emergency entrance of the hospital. He kept the details vague because despite everything a part of him in the back of his mind recognizes that he needs to protect Cece's mind and shouldn't know the details of what happened to her mum.
"Sweetie, stay in the car. I will come and get you once I take mummy in, okay?" he tells her. Cece nods her head silently as tears stream down her face.
Edward tries to pick Bella as quickly as possible while being gentle with her then runs into the emergency. "Help me. Please help me. She was shot and their is so much blood," Edward screams the moment he goes through the door.
Doctors and nurses surround him and then place her on a gourne after getting the blanket off her. They start rolling her away with him trailing behind until they enter the OR and leave him outside. He stands alone almost in a daze as he stares at the doors like they hold all the answers to his questions.
Doors have never done that. All they ever did was remind him of what he can't have. He feels his knees go weak and reaches his left hand to the wall to steady himself. All this time, he has been running on adrenaline but now that there is nothing left for him to do, the adrenaline is gone.
All this time, he was thinking of getting Bella to the hospital, and now that he has, his imagination is running wild. What if he was too late? Is that it? She is dead?
He shakes his head disgusted by the thoughts his head is playing. No, Bella isn't going to die. She won't. She is stronger than him. The strongest person he knows.
"But God only knows for how long she was bleeding before you found her," a voice in his head states.
Right as he is about to spiral out of control, a hand is placed on his shoulder and he is told, "Sir, is there anything you need?"
He looks up and finds one of the nurses standing by the reception looking at him and just like that he is brought back to reality. "Fuck," he mutters to himself.
"Excuse me?" The nurse exclaims taken aback.
Edward rubs his hand on his face and tells her, "Not you. I left our daughter in the car in the parking lot. I didn't what her to see her mum like that. I need to go get her."
His last sentence is muttered to himself. He turns back to the emergency door when suddenly he finds Charlie and Cece running toward him. He quickly walks to them and picks up Cece once he reaches them.
Right when he opens his mouth to try to explain to Charlie what happened even though he has no idea how with Cece standing, Cece whispers, "Mummy will be okay, right Daddy?"
Hello lovely people,
I could not exactly leave you without something, hence the end.
A comment I recently came across on "Left Behind" asking about Jacob's friends, so I will explain it here. Jacob moves to Italy and befriends Marco until they see a crime done by the Denali and Marco is killed to insure the secret while Jacob manages to escape. Jacob takes the identity of Marco to stay under the radar as they are searching for him and when he moves to Chicago with Bella he continues to use his friend's identity. Once Denali is arrested, he decides to keep his dead friend's name. I hope this clears up the confusion for anyone who had it. If you are confused about anything else, let me know.
