I don't own Twilight. What I own is my character's behavior, personality, background, and the plot of the story.
Author's note at the end of the chapter.
"Yes I am sure it wasn't Victoria who shot me," Bella repeats to the officer.
"How can you be so sure of that?" The officer sitting opposite of her asks after writing something down.
Bella takes a deep breath then recites what she has been practicing in the thirty minutes between Marco leaving her room and the police showing up. "Victoria is my friend. She is the only parent in my daughter's classroom who I am friends with. I invited her to my house in person two days ago when I saw her at the kids' pick up."
"Yet you can't remember who shot you. How can you be so sure that it isn't her?" The officer prods.
"I remember her leaving."
"How can you be so sure that she returned but you forgot about that?" The officer asks her after a minute of looking at her notes.
"It can't be her. She knows that Edward Cullen my ex would be returning with our daughter at any minute. Who shot me probably didn't know that," Bella replies her arms twisted across her chest.
The officer opens her mouth to ask another question but seeing the look on Bella's face, her dad cuts in. "Officer, my daughter just had a surgery and needs to rest to go home to her daughter. She has told you all that she knows. Instead of interrogating her like a criminal, you should be doing your job."
The officer swiftly apologizes to both of them and then leaves. "Thank God you cut in when you did. I was two minutes away from throwing the entire plan out of the window."
Unlike Marco and her dad, Bella isn't that comfortable with working with Victoria. Even more, she is extremely uncomfortable with lying to the police and working with Victoria behind the law's back. Sure her dad and Marco are in the FBI, but the Bureau is in the dark on this and both of them are going rogue on this mission. Both of them know that someone in the Bureau is compromised and since they don't know their identity, everyone is a suspect. With all of that in mind, Bella still can't help but worry that all of this will blow up in their face.
"I could tell," Her dad tells her then gets up and takes his phone out of his pocket and sends a message. "Are you sure you don't want me to stay with you instead of Edward."
Bella rolls her eyes and tells him, "I wish, but Edward is an overprotective jerk and a royal pain in the ass. If he doesn't stay with us, he will show up to bug me everyday. There is no use keeping him out the plan."
"You know I am not going to be that much better than him, right?" Her dad states smirking.
"If I yell at you, you will get over it. If I yell at him, I don't know how it will impact his relationship with Cecelia," Bella replies using her daughter's full name which is unusual.
Her dad eyes her for a moment trying to make sense of his daughter. Despite everything Edward has done to prove his good intentions to Bella, she is still worried. She still doesn't trust him which doesn't make sense to him because his daughter isn't a distrusting person and what Edward did wasn't so bad to the extreme she is taking things to.
"Is their something I need to know about Bella? Something that happened between you and Edward?" Charlie asks Bella.
Bella frowns at his question trying to understand where this is coming from. "Not that I can think of."
Her dad nods his head then leaves her to her thoughts but not for long as thirty minutes later, Edward returns. "I am sorry for yelling at you," is the first thing he tells her.
She studies his face in silence wanting to see if he is really sorry, then a minute later she tells him in a stern voice, "You don't yell at me."
"Got it," Edward mutters nodding.
"It's Victoria," Edward goes to tell Bella who is sitting on her couch. It's been a couple of days since the incident and Bella just returned home with Edward and Cece.
"She is probably here to keep up pretense. I will be in my room. Don't let her stay more than thirty minutes," Bella tells him then gets off the couch and walks slowly to the stairs.
Once she is out of sight, Edward opens the door to Victoria and tells her, "She doesn't want to see you but telling you to fuck off would be suspicious, so come in."
Edward steps aside and Victoria walks through the door like she owns the place. It infuriates Edward. She walks in her head held high dressed to the nines with a smile plastered to her face as if she did nothing.
She sits down then tells him, "So, what do we do now?"
Edward raises an eyebrow at her blatant lack of of tact or decorum and in turn Victoria winks at him. "We do nothing. We sit in utter silence for the next thirty minutes then you fuck off," he tells her barely controlling his voice knowing that those thirty minutes are about to be longer than the rest of his life.
