I don't own twilight. What I own is my character's behavior, personality, background, and plot of my story.
Author's Note at the end.
They silently stare at each other a minute and then Seth drops his eyes to the ground and tells Bella, "Thank you. If you didn't call me when you did, we would have missed him."
Letting out a breath she didn't know she was holding, she drops in her place, her legs no longer able to carry her. "What did the paramedic say?"
"I don't know. He isn't in the safe zone. Depending on how much of the drugs his body absorbed they will have to pump his stomach plus other treatments. He isn't out of the woods yet," he tells her picking at the carpet under his feet.
"Well; what are you waiting for? Let's go," she tells him making no effort to get up. She is still exhausted.
"I am tired Bella. I would like a moment to breath in peace before I go to the hospital. Plus, it's not like my presence will make much of a difference." Bella nods her head and then leans her back against the wall behind her and closes her eyes. Only opening them when she hears Seth speak.
"Thank you."
"For what?" she asks opening one eye to look at him.
"For caring," he tells her pausing for a moment to swallow then he tells her, "I think had I received that message myself, I may have assumed that he was pulling my leg or something and not taken him seriously."
She closes her eyes and confesses, "You aren't the only one. A part of me came her to make sure he was not playing the victim. A part of me was waiting for your phone call to tell me that the asshole is faking it."
Seth nods his head and contemplates his words for a minute before he asks her, "Do you think we are the bad guys for assuming that or do you think he is the bad guy for making us assume so?"
"We are only humans. The three of us," she replies. Edward has always been bigger than life. With his tall and broad body she always though of him as an intimidating person who is strong. No one would have assumed that Edward would lose in a fight in a bar. He would be one of the guys who survived that battle with minimal scratches. No one would ever assume that he is one to quit life once it became tough.
What no one kept in mind is that in a battle with himself, he wouldn't be a winner.
For the longest time he terrified her. She always worried what he would say, or do. It's not that she didn't love him, because she did. She still does. Edward will always have a piece of her heart, faults and all. She saw him. The insecure little boy who thought that the only way to keep someone around is to control them and the only to control someone is to scare them. That is why she stayed as long as she did.
It was only when she became an accomplice in his crime that she realized how much she compromised herself to be with him. It was then that she realized that she can't fix the scared insecure boy because he was no longer a boy. He was a grown man who has became a criminal.
Then she started to prepare to leave him. She didn't want to be with him anymore. The part that loved him made sure that he never found out what he did that night. The part that loved her stayed up all night plotting to leave him. Eleazar may have given her the push she needed to leave him immediately, but he didn't plant the idea in her head and he didn't make her do something she hadn't been wanting to do.
Edward has shown himself for the coward he is and she pities him. He was like a balloon that got inflated and became the size of Texas until someone decided to prick it. Then it exploded and returned to its original size. That's what his attempt scuicide did for her. It made her realize how fickle and frail he is in reality.
He is just a human. He isn't one to be feared. He is to be pitied, cause he failed at the most fundamental human urge: survival.
Bella asks him if he called the Cullens and once she has her answer, she tells him, "Come on, let's go and face the shooting gang," in reference to the Cullens.
