TEN YEARS LATER

"And that's how your mother and I and our friends saved all of reality from that dastard Xur," William said. The now-ten-year-old Princess Scarlett II smiled at William as he shut off the data pad he was reading the story from. "Tell me the story again, Father," Scarlett said.

"Another time, my child," William said. "Now off to bed with you. Tomorrow's a big day: your first day at Royal Prep. Your mother and I met and fell in love there. Maybe someday, when you're old enough, you'll find yourself that special someone."

"Oh, all right," Scarlett said. "Good night, Father. Please say good night to Mother for me." "I will," William said before kissing Scarlett on the forehead. "Sleep tight, Munchkin." William blew out the candle on Scarlett's nightstand and exited her bedroom.

"I never thought she'd get to sleep," William said to Sofia as they met outside Scarlett's bedchamber and shared a brief kiss. "Shall we get to bed, William?" Sofia asked. "Scarlett and Jonathan have been nagging us for a new sibling, after all."

William smiled. But before William and Sofia could make it to their bedchamber, the data pad in William's hand reactivated and a message appeared on its screen. William saw the message and frowned before disappearing in a cloud of red mist. "I hate it when he does that," Sofia sighed before shaking her head, smiling, and entering her bedchamber alone.

On the Bridge of the Gansett, William pressed a button on the arm of his command chair. A graphic reading "Now Playing: Personal Log Entry, Ensign Beckett Mariner, USS Cerritos, Stardate 58130.6" appeared on the viewscreen and a female voice began to speak.

"Personal Log, Stardate 58130.6," the voice of Ensign Mariner began. "What the [REDACTED] just happened?! We just—We totally saved the day, but then a bunch of Starfleet security goons show up out of nowhere and arrest Mom!? This is [REDACTED]!"

William looked at Steve, Uma, Carlos, Jane, Tory, Ellie, Zasha and Koska, who were seated at the other stations, with a wry smile as Mariner continued: "Me and Mom were just starting to trust each other. Like, without forcing it! Yeah, we were getting along and BAM—military court ruins it."

William frowned. He had met Mariner's mother, Captain Carol Freeman of the USS Cerritos, and knew her to be an honest, hard-working Starfleet officer. Why, then, would Starfleet security personnel arrest her—and in front of her daughter?

"No. No. You know what, no," Mariner continued. "I can't trust Starfleet on this one. My mom's innocent, and I'm gonna make sure she's back in the command chair even if I have to go to Earth and bust that trial open myself. Boimler! Wake up, we gotta research Starfleet law right now! I...Boimler! I SAID WAKE UP! WE'RE HITTING THE BOOKS!" The recording ended.

"So we need to see what's going on aboard the Cerritos and if necessary, rescue Captain Freeman?" Steve asked. "Got it in one, Steve," William said.

He then turned to Koska and Tory, who were seated at the helm and navigational consoles. "Tory, set course for the Unaligned World of Star Trek," William ordered. "Koska, take us to Black Alert."

The Black Alert klaxons began to blare as the Gansett's mycelial dimensional deviator began to activate. Before anyone on the Bridge of the Gansett knew it, the ship was in the Unaligned World of Star Trek, its hyper-light nacelles returning to their default, detached position.

"Set course for the last-known position of the Cerritos, hyper-light factor max. Zasha, prepare to deploy weapons on my order," William ordered.

"Course set, Battle-Father," Koska said.

"Weapons and defensive systems ready," Zasha said.

William made a lit cigar appear in his hand and took a quick puff before pointing to the viewscreen and saying, "Do it."

The Gansett retracted its hyper-light nacelles to the main body and leaped into hyper-light drive, on course...for the future.

The human adventure will always continue.
