Sorry for not writing lately. I've had a bad righters block ever since school ended. I'm hoping to get a few more Chapters out before summer ends. As always, hope you enjoy.
Chapter 11
Pronghorn
"Caracal," Pronghorn walked next to one of the Sandwings. He looked at Twilight. "What do you know about this?" He pulled out the egg. "I found it in a cell in the palace."
Caracal looked at it. "It's an egg. I think Obsidian found out one of the Sandwings had an egg with a Nightwing."
"Do you think it was a bad idea to grab it?" Pronghorn put it back in the satchel around his neck.
She shook her head. "It's a hybrid egg. You saved it from a future of torment."
Pronghorn looked around the clearing they were in. "Do you think Queen Obsidian will send troops after us?"
"No," Caracal shifted. "She'd be too busy trying to calm Queen Frost."
"Hey guy's," Mojave called from his spot. "Isn't that the direction we're going in?" he flicked his tail towards the Sky Kingdom.
"What in the three moons?" Pronghorn gasped as he saw plumes of black smoke rising in the air.
"We head for it," Twilight sat up from her spot. "We can use that as a distraction to get the hybrids out."
"Are we sure about this?" Mojave asked.
"Definitely!" Caracal stood up stretching her wings out. "If we don't rescue them Ember will use them. I'd rather not have HER rath on us."
"Good point," Iceberg got up from his spot. "Queen Ember is the most ruthless of all the Queens. Frost might have looked scary but Ember just has this look about her. It's almost trusting but once you do she slices your scales off."
"I'd rather keep my scales intact," Pronghorn opened his wings. "I'm assuming you would as well."
"Alright fine," Mojave growled to himself. "What's the plan?"
"Well, I assume Queen Ember is holding them in the prison," Pronghorn leapt into the air. The others followed after him. "We use Twilight's spell to keep us invisible and make our way there. If we get caught we can fight back."
"Should we split up once we get there?" Iceberg flew next to him. "Look for them in more areas."
Pronghorn shook his head. "We'd be more likely to lose each other. Our best option is to stick together."
"Well I suppose we focus on flying for the time being," Caracal said from behind them. "We're still at least a few hours away."
"Right," Pronghorn nodded.
They had flown in relative silence. As they had come up to the Skywing palace smoke had filled the air. The sun was slightly setting.
"Iceberg," Pronghorn called to his friend. "You wouldn't happen to remember where the prison is, would you?"
Iceberg flew close to him. "Yeah. It's the base of the twisted spire over there." he pointed to a tall twisted tower spiraling out of the palace.
"Alright," Pronghorn looked at it from where he was. "I see a couple of entrances from here. None of them look guarded."
"Pronghorn," Mojave called, looking behind him. "These are Leafwings."
Pronghorn watched as two Leafwings faced off with a large Skywing. "They must be here for the Hybrids. We have to get to them before they do."
"Then let's go." Twilight said, shooting ahead of them.
Pronghorn shot after her, the others following in pursuit. The air was filled with smoke giving the illusion of darkness. Skywings burned Leafwings as Leafwings used their leaf speak on the Skywings. Vines burned as Skywings shot flames at the Leafwings. Pronghorn saw Mojave dodge out of the way as two Leafwings fled away from a group of Skywings.
They landed on the ground close to the main entrance to the prison. Caracal and Mojave stood behind Pronghorn, ready to strike, as he opened the door. They both lowered their tails as they saw no one.
"This way," Iceberg went ahead of them.
"How do you know where we're going?" Caracal asked from behind.
"A few years ago I was held prisoner by Ember. I escaped with a little help." Iceberg glanced back at Pronghorn.
As they continued towards the prisons they were hit with a sudden smell. "Something's burning." Pronghorn stopped them.
Iceberg sniffed at the strange stench. "Burning scales." His voice went high with worry.
The five of them raced down the hall to see a pile up of dragons. Leafwings hissing at a single Skywings. Scratch that. Two Skywings. Pronghorn squinted seeing them more clearly. They were dragonets. One of them lept forward towards a large Leafwing. The Leafwing dodged by throwing another in the dragonets path. The Leafwings screeched in pain at the touch of the dragonet.
"Let us through and we'll let you live." The large one hissed.
"Not gonna happen," the skywings dragonet hissed back.
The other dragonet dodged a Leafwings talon and slammed into them. "Stay back."
"Ash, Sky. We found a way out." a voice called from down the corridor.
"Give us a second." one called back after biting at a Leafwing. "These guys aren't exactly stopping."
"Get out of the way." another voice called from the corner. "Frost breath coming through."
All Pronghorn could see was white and brown before ice shot out from the dragon. Leafwings moved out of the way as fast as they could. Some were too late. As the fog from the ice cleared Pronghorn could get a better view. A dragonet covered in white, blue and brown scales.
"It's one of the hybrids." Pronghorn gasped.
