Videl was pleased to see that one of her father's more higher up elites was having difficulty finding his nerve when faced with the ever ominous threat that loomed in front of him. With the eyes of the media surrounding him and Hercule glaring daggers into his back, Videl had to commend the man with the fact that he was actually the first one to make a move, the bell having rung several seconds beforehand. It was a timid step but it was one that gave birth to more confident movements.
It was easy for the raven haired girl to read the emotions on the Yowai's face and the fact that he knew that he could be in serious trouble if he didn't put in a good show at least. Whether or not he could even touch Gohan however was up for debate.
"Get 'em, he's too chicken to get you," shouted Hercule trying to boost the morale of his selected individual.
Gohan meanwhile just seemed to be unfazed by anything that was going on, the sound of journalists scribbling notes falling upon deaf ears. Rolling his neck from side to side Gohan seemed to only become more relaxed in front of his opposition. In turn this only seemed to begin to enrage his opponent. Yowai had been a student of Hercule's for eight years and had proceeded up the rankings to the point where he now taught a number of the worlds saviour's newer students the basics. Here he was however staring down an opponent who didn't even seem to consider him a threat, the teenager didn't have a guard up of any kind choosing to have his arms lazily hanging by his side.
It was infuriating!
It was here that Videl remembered the first lesson that Gohan had taught her before she had even begun her individual lessons in the gymnasium. She could almost see the day when she had challenged Gohan to a fight during class, infuriated by the fact he had stated that her fighting style would seemingly be unable to cope it within the ring against worthy adversaries. At first she had laughed but after seeing what Gohan was capable of she knew that the world stage was possibly a lot further than she had ever imagined. It was weird that her entire journey so far had begun with such a simple lesson.
Keep your emotions in check.
Something that Gohan's opponent had clearly lost at being looked down on.
Gohan remained calm and rooted to the spot as Yowai charged towards him with a war cry and his right fist pulled back hoping to end all of this with a single blow. No matter how strong somebody was there were always key areas to aim for that could fell any human, the jaw being one of the most painfully obvious ones. One simple hook to the jaw with enough force could easily rattle the brain and potentially knock them out, and that was exactly what he was aiming to do.
For Gohan however the attack was so easily telegraphed that he found it difficult not to throw a punch straight forward and end this in a couple of seconds. Despite the internal joy he would get out of it for humiliating Hercule's selected warrior in the blink of an eye he knew that there was a lesson here that needed to be embedded into the minds of anybody who was open to ideas.
Videl watched in excitement as Gohan leaned back the barest of margins allowing Yowai's fist to avoid sail past his face without any damage being dealt. This of course was followed up by what many would call a monstrous uppercut which Gohan avoided yet again by tilting his body to the side before springing back into his original position. Over and over punches were launched at Gohan's face at a rapid pace but not a single one hit the target which in turn caused the challenger to become even more enraged.
Twisting on the spot, Yowai did a complete three hundred and sixty degree turn, his right foot lifting up with every passing angle before his ankle was head high. His spin did not last longer than a second but when he faced Gohan once again he would find that the teenager had seemingly vanished from in front of him. Before Yowai had time to react however his pivoting foot was kicked out from underneath him causing him to land painfully on his back but thankfully his head didn't bounce off of the tiles otherwise he would have been in some serious trouble. It didn't help however as he found Gohan looking down at him, his arm extended with his fist mere millimetres away from his nose.
Videl couldn't help but be amazed by the display that Gohan had shown her before she began to realise that the lesson from the previous day had actually played a part in the bout as well, Gohan having never moved from the tile he had started the fight on. Instead of leaping out of the way of his opponents attacks he had merely weaved in and out of the onslaught using only his upper body having been able to react to every attack without fail. There were no blocks, no parries, in no way shape or form had Gohan's opposition even made contact with him.
"NEXT!" bellowed Hercule almost throwing the next competitor in the ring as his first champion walked off of the stage with his head hung low. While Hercule had expected the first round to have finished by now he had imagined well and truly that it would be his own selected representative who would be standing tall above the unconscious form of this runt. The previous night Hercule had learned just how much disrespect the kid had shown him when he researched the David and Goliath fight and realised just what it was that Gohan had implied.
No matter what though, he would make sure one way or another that Gohan was crushed by the end of the day.
...
"Holy shit this is intense," declared Sharpner as he sat within the confines of the classroom despite the fact that school had finished over thirty minutes beforehand. While on some days he would still be locked upon the school grounds having received detention that was not the case as instead he along with many of his classmates had decided to watch the live broadcast of the fights. A quick bit of tinkering had allowed the projector to get live television feed that caused the fight to be shown over a large space that they could all see without anybody in their way. The effect was completed with the closing of all the shutters making the room as dark as possible so that it was relatively easy to see just what was going on.
At first many people had been disappointed with the result of the first round only because they had placed some amount of money on the wrong outcome that became painfully obvious that they had bet on the wrong horse considering Gohan was now onto his fourth opponent. There was one person however that seemed to embody the joyful spirit that the rest of the class was slowly warming up to.
"Go Gohan Go, Go Gohan Go," chanted Erasa over and over again having now gotten her hands on some pom poms that cheerleaders used to complete the effect that she had originally desired. With people having gotten so indulged in the fighting at hand they had begun rooting for their peer (usually after their bet had become null and void) with roaring success at this point.
"Who thought mountain boy had it in him?" said Sharpner absentmindedly as he crossed his arms over his chest, unable to prevent himself from being impressed by the display at hand. One after another competitors had been thrown in Gohan's path but he showed them no mercy by dispatching of them in embarrassing ways. No matter what tactic they tried, what sort of different fighting style they embraced none of them had a single hope of achieving what many began to think was impossible.
"Oh shit he got him," shouted one of the students causing many of them to take a sharp intake of breath as they watched the current competitor grab onto Gohan's arm in an attempt to execute a throw over his own shoulder. Collective breaths were held as Gohan was lifted off of the ground and launched over the man's body. A joyous cry rang out however as Gohan landed on his feet before kicking upwards, stopping just short of his opponent's jaw. The man backed off a couple of steps however and due to not paying nearly enough attention to his surroundings found himself floundering around pointlessly as his back foot found itself without anything beneath it and he fell out of the ring.
"YAY GOHAN!" shouted Erasa at the top of her lungs causing a couple of the people closest to her to cover their ears lest an eardrum burst.
"Way to go buddy," said Sharpner as he joined many of the other students in an applause as the camera panned to Hercule who was yelling furiously at the people who had failed in their objective to take down Gohan before pointing at the remaining three competitors.
"Hercule doesn't seem to be appreciating the fact that his gym is being looked down upon in such a way," declared the television personality. While he had been describing the earlier fights it now seemed that he too had become absorbed in the bouts to the point where he could only discuss the fight after it was concluded. "This young lad has shown us with precision attacks and a swift frame that not even some of the members of the Satan Dojo's locker rooms have a chance. So many questions though remain unanswered, such as where has this boy come from and how did he learn such amazing feats of strength and ability? And it now seems that his next opponent is stepping on to the stage, wait I beg your pardon ladies and gentlemen but it seems that now the challenger will be facing not just one but three opponents!"
"Three on one, that's bullshit!" shouted one of the students.
"That's not fair," declared one of the girls.
"We've seen what he's done though...you think that maybe..."
"Against three people, no way!"
"Yea I mean he must be exhausted after the first four fights."
"Look at him though, he hasn't even broken a sweat and he looks calm as."
"You can do it Gohan!" shouted Erasa waving her pom poms in the air.
While they may not have openly conveyed the same feelings as Erasa it was clear that there was belief amongst Gohan's peers. "Come on man, you can do this!" shouted one of the boys quickly followed by the cheers from the rest of the people in the classroom. All except one however who realised that if Gohan was successfully able to fend off all three men at once he would end up having to owe Videl a lot of money.
...
Within the dojo, of the hundreds of people that lined the walls there were dozens of emotions playing out amongst different factions. The paparazzi were doing their best to capture every moment on both camera and video knowing that no matter what result played out. Would the underdog conquer the impossible task that Hercule had laid before him or would he fall so close to the peak of the mountain?
For Hercule's students they had watched the entirety of the display in front of them in awe and wonder hoping to one day achieve the feats that were being played out before them. All of them were aware that Hercule had deliberately selected nothing less than a black belt to challenge Gohan. The display that the members of the dojo had shown was nothing to scoff about and something that they all strived towards. Their opponent however was simply too much and while they wouldn't say it out loud they wondered if Gohan had the ability to duke it out with Hercule and actually deal some manner of damage to the saviour of the world.
Hercule himself was doing his best to punch anything and everything in sight having grown increasingly frustrated with the matches as they had progressed. While it now seemed clear that somebody whom his daughter had sought training from would have some manner of skill. What he was witnessing now though was nothing short of World Tournament level, and not just one of those bottom dwellers who would get knocked down in the first round either. Was he on his level though? Of course not! Nobody was on the same level that he was.
Videl meanwhile didn't share the same sentiment as her father not knowing who would win if Gohan and Hercule were to meet in the ring and fight it out with one another. In front of her she knew full well that the display that Gohan was putting on would rank him higher than many of the fighters in the world and she was actually surprised that some of the fighters today had had the courage to step up to the challenge. The thing was though that she knew Gohan was holding back, recalling the bout that Gohan had fought with Eighteen back when she was sceptical about his abilities. Of course this in turn probably meant that Eighteen was more than capable of replicating what Gohan was doing right now, even more perhaps remembering that Marron had said that her mother had been holding back in the fight.
Before she could continue her train of thought the unthinkable occurred as a punch successfully landed within Gohan's abdomen causing him to double over. While it didn't take him long to recover it looked as if the numbers game was slowly starting to get to him. Hercule's faithful students meanwhile took this chance to start cheering for their peers hoping to help push them into succeeding where there comrades had failed. The cheering seemed to spur the television presenters back into action as they started yelling into their microphones about how it seemed the tides were finally starting to turn in favour of the Satan Dojo.
Multiple blows began to rain upon Gohan and for the first time during the course of the day the teenager took a single step backwards. "C'mon Gohan!" shouted Videl but she doubted whether or not her words could be heard over the cheers that pushed the dojo's students forward. Unbelievably though it seemed her words had some manner of effect as Gohan ducked beneath a punch and weaved around a kick before pushing one man into another with enough force to send them a few steps backwards. This though was all the space needed as he blocked the oncoming attack by the last man standing before countering with a vicious combo that sent the man bouncing across the arena floor.
There was little reprieve however as the other two men had quickly recovered and were on the assault again forcing Gohan to defend against the attack. Again a few attacks managed to make their way through his defence and struck both his midriff and face before he seemingly got an opportunity and struck out with an uppercut that caused the person who had been stricken to be lifted a couple of inches off the ground. This attack however left Gohan open as a vicious hook caught him across the jaw and sent him sprawling across the ring and sliding off of the surface and to the floor.
For a few moments there was nothing but silence before realisation sunk in and cheers erupted from Hercule's camp while the reporters stepped in front of the cameras and began to give a detailed analysis of what had just happened. Videl meanwhile quickly ran to Gohan's side, kneeling down beside him. "Are you okay?" she asked.
"Of course," said Gohan as he pushed himself up to one knee, Videl blinking a couple of times as she realised that there seemed to be no scuffs or bruises on Gohan's features despite having taken so many hits in the last round. "I was just using that last round for one more lesson."
"One more lesson, what do you mean?" asked Videl in confusion, not knowing quite what Gohan was talking about.
"No more gambling 'til you're of age," said Gohan with a cheeky smirk causing Videl to blink a couple of times in realisation that the boy in front of her had thrown the match just because she had put money on him to defeat everyone. Pushing himself to his feet, Gohan saw that Hercule had made his way to the centre of the ring while the person who had delivered the winning blow was being congratulated by his friends. With a simple hop Gohan stepped onto the ring once again and calmly made his way over to where Hercule stood. "So, how'd I do champ?"
Hercule bit the inside of his lip as he wondered just what to say in response to such a casual remark. While he wanted to give the kid a verbal lashing about how he should be more respectful he was fully aware that there were at least a dozen cameras on him and anything negative that would be portrayed would directly affect his popularity. "Well kid, you've got some skills but you're not quite up to champion level yet. Give it a few years of hard training and maybe you'll have what it takes to take my belt," boasted Hercule.
"Yea, considering I haven't trained for almost a year now I probably am a bit rusty, I wasn't quite moving the way I wanted to," said Gohan. Hercule blinked a couple of times figuring that the boy in front of him was lying in order to gain some face value but the way he had said just oozed truth. "Anyways, to the point at hand, do you believe that I'm skilled enough to train Videl?"
Hercule immediately wanted to declare that under no circumstance was Videl to meet with this boy ever again but after the display he had put on he knew that there was only one answer he could give to not get any negative feedback. "You have my permission," declared Hercule causing many of the people to gasp in shock. "Under the condition however that the relationship between you remains strictly professional I believe that there are some things that you are able to help my daughter with."
"Sure thing," said Gohan as he outstretched his arm, willing to give Hercule a handshake in order to solidify the deal. Hercule meanwhile knew that with all of the cameras on him he had no option but to take the appendage but he had all mind to crush the boy's hand in the process. As they shook Hercule's grip tightened as much as possible but the casual face that Gohan showed had no signs of pain whatsoever. "Alright then, it was a pleasure," said Gohan as he easily slipped out of Hercule's grip before turning his back on the world champion and headed towards the exit.
As he hopped off of the ring he could see out of his peripheral vision the amount of flashes that photographers were taking of him and knew that he would be all over the paper tomorrow. Chances were that Vegeta was somehow going to discover that he had lost and would berate him for lacking Saiyan pride but he was prepared for the fight the Saiyan Prince would put him through. "You coming?" he asked Videl as he paused momentarily as he stood side by side to his classmate, picking up the bag containing his school gear as he did so.
"Might as well," said Videl preferring the company of Gohan to her father as of this moment. As they were just about to leave the dojo however Videl remembered something that Gohan had forgotten. "You going to get your weights?"
"Nope," said Gohan casually as he pushed the door open, inhaling the fresh air as he did so.
"Why not?" asked Videl.
"So they realise just how outclassed they were," said Gohan as a menacing grin crossed his face knowing full well that it would take at least ten people to move the red bands. Looking over her shoulder, Videl could already see that a couple of the students had decided to test their strength by picking up Gohan's weights to no success. "Anyways," said Gohan snapping Videl back to attention, "Do you know where the nearest park is?"
"Yea of course, why?" Gohan merely turned his head to look at Videl causing realisation to slowly sink in. "Really?" she asked.
"Yep, just because I fought doesn't mean you can slack off on your training."
"I hate you sometimes you know that," said Videl.
"Of course, now show the way."
...
Hope you enjoyed.
