"Wow, I've never been so far from the mainland," squealed Erasa as she gazed out the window, staring out towards the empty vastness of the ocean.
"I can honestly say that I haven't been either," said Videl as she focused on the coordinates that Gohan had given her. In theory they should be reaching their destination within the next few minutes. It would be nice if they were able to see said destination because given that they had seen nothing but endless blue was starting to grate on her nerves.
Did Gohan really have to do his demonstration so far away? Videl found herself shaking her head. Gohan, always, seemed to know what he was doing. There had to be a reason why and more than likely a good reason.
"So Videl, I know the next big tournament is coming up and your Dad's defending his championship. Are you still keen to compete?" asked Erasa as she laid back in her chair.
Videl opened her mouth to answer but found herself pausing. She couldn't help but admit that she had progressed significantly in her abilities as a fighter. Every exercise that Gohan put her through increased her strength and mobility. It would do great to see just what she was capable of against some of the world's greatest fighters.
Then there was the realization that were she to compete and face Gohan or even the woman, Eighteen, that he had sparred with what seemed like a lifetime ago then she would stand no chance. She for one had no issue with being defeated by a stronger opponent. That was merely proof that she was yet to reach her potential and that she was capable of becoming stronger.
What it would do however would cause ripples within the police force and the general public. The police relied on her to take down enemies that they themselves were struggling with. If she was shown to be incompetent in a one on one battle, how would they react?
"I'm...thinking about it," she finally responded.
"Really? I thought you would have...umm...what is that?" asked Erasa switching her thought process as she spotted something beneath them. Videl peered down at what Erasa was looking at and found herself at a loss of words. It looked as if the sea was actively parting for something, something that was moving faster than what they were. She could see the sheer size of the waves created even from how high up they were.
"Do you think it's some kind of sea monster?" asked Erasa. "Because if it is I am not okay knowing that such big things live in the ocean."
Before Videl could answer, a second being created the same effects traveling at a faster rate as if to catch up with the first thing.
"I...I think I have an idea but I really, really hope that I'm wrong. Otherwise, I think that I might call it early on the whole tournament."
...
When Videl's jetcopter landed on the specified island, it was to find Gohan standing there with somebody else by his side. Someone who was far shorter than him yet instantly recognisable. "Heya," he said with a light wave of the hand.
"Videl, Erasa, this is my friend Krillin," introduced Gohan. "He's offered to come out and demonstrate a few techniques that I'm incapable of doing."
"So even you have some weaknesses then," said Erasa playfully.
"Pfft, trust me girls, Gohan is not weak," scoffed Krillin. "I'm pretty sure he could take me out in a matter of minutes."
"Don't sell yourself short Krillin," said Gohan apologetically.
"Krillin," said Videl, finding her voice. "You've fought in the World Martial Arts Tournament haven't you."
"The World Martial Arts Tournament, wow, that was a long time ago," said Krillin, reconciling about years long past. "I guess I did, I was even a semi finalist...twice now that I think about it."
"Wow, you must be so strong," proclaimed Erasa.
"Is this one of the adults who kept knocking you down when you were a kid?" Videl asked of Gohan.
"We did have a few spars back in the day and we've fought together side by side but in regards to what you're thinking of Videl, no," answered Gohan.
"Wow, you've really opened up with these girls haven't you Gohan," acknowledged Krillin.
"I guess I have," said Gohan sheepishly.
"I didn't know there were tournaments where you would fight together," said Erasa.
"There isn't," said Gohan. "When we fought together it wasn't for prize money or trophies."
"Then what were...oh..." said Erasa, as if cluing into something important.
"Did you really figure it out?" asked Gohan.
"Nope."
Gohan chuckled. "Figured as much. The people we fought were actively trying to kill us. First time I was fighting for my life was when I was five years old."
"I thought you were four when you were kidnapped," stated Kirllin.
"I don't think I really fought in that instance. I believe I cracked his armour but that was about it."
"Wait, hold up!" said Videl putting her hand up. "The two of you are saying some really ludicrous things right now. Gohan, you were kidnapped as a child? Why did you never mention that?"
"It never got brought up in conversation," said Gohan with a shrug of the shoulders.
"Trust me girls, Gohan's gone through a lot more than a kidnapping," said Krillin as he patted Gohan on the back.
"You make it sound so normal," said Erasa in shock.
"Trust me when I say that our definitions of normal are very, very different," said Krillin. "For example, how did Gohan and I get here? Just to make it extra difficult, we got here by our normal means of transportation."
"You flew here," said Erasa as if it was the simplest answer in the world.
"How did we fly here then?" asked Gohan. "I assure you that neither myself nor Krillin own a Jetcopter."
"As much as Eighteen's been pestering me to get one," moaned Krillin.
"Well then you...got here...by...Videl, help me out here."
"You flew here," stated Videl.
"Yeah but how did they fly here Videl?" asked Erasa.
"You're right, we flew," said Kirllin, flashing the two of them a cheeky smile.
"But how..." started Erasa before she found herself at a loss of words as Krillin eyeline was now equal to that of Gohan. Erasa found herself gazing at the gap between where his feet were to the ground beneath him in shock. "I'm sorry, what?"
"If you think this is special then Gohan really hasn't shown you anything," said Krillin as he lowered himself to the ground.
"Gohan, show me...everything," said Videl, determined to see just what Gohan was capable of.
"You might want to put your Jetcopter away," said Gohan as he started to walk away into the middle of the clearing. Videl did as instructed before she found Erasa huddling close to her.
"Do you really think Gohan's been in fights to the...you know?" she asked in a hushed whisper..
"I...believe so," said Videl with uncertainty. It was such an incredibly concept to get her head around, despite everything that she had bore witness to. To hear that a child was fighting for his life was terrifying. Yet the casualness of it all completely mismatched the topic of the conversation. Krillin and Gohan made it sound like they were catching up for a picnic, not reminiscing about fights to the death.
That in itself was something that Videl was uncomfortable thinking about. If Gohan had been in such a battle at a young age, it was possible that he had seen the death of another person. It was unlikely that he had been the one to take a life, but he may very well have bore witness to one of his friend's killing someone else.
It wasn't a particularly nice thing to think about.
Gohan came to a stop some distance away from them before he took a calming breath.
Then he roared.
Videl couldn't describe it as a yell or a scream, it felt far too primal for something like that. If that had been all she was focused on however then she would have feared for his mental health. Yet it was the sheer power she could feel radiating from him that seemed to be billowing in every direction. She could see trees in the distance shake from the energy that Gohan was releasing. Over the other side she could see that tide seemed to be flowing away from the land they were standing on.
Yet that was only the beginning.
She watched in shock and awe as the ground that Gohan was standing on began to crack and break, It suddenly became all to obvious as to why Gohan had not wanted to show off his strength in a highly populated area, there was no telling what sort of damage would have been caused as people panicked.
Videl hadn't even thought it possible but Gohan's roar became even more powerful, causing nearby rock formations to shatter from duress. Both the girls found themselves having to shield their eyes as the wind became stronger. What frightened Videl though was how calm Krillin seemed to be throughout all this. He hadn't so much as flinched as wind and debris crashed against his body, a fact which terrified her more than anything.
She could barely maintain her footing yet the person before her could stand against these elements without so much as a scratch when Erasa would likely complain for weeks due to the dust in her hair. Did that mean the person only standing a handful of feet away from her was already at a stage of strength far superior to her own? That question itself already had an answer.
Videl had fought countless amounts of thugs and criminals, each varying in different degrees of strength and sheer power. The person in front of her however, she felt as if she even tried to assault him from behind would result in her inside a medical ward.
"Is that all you got Gohan?" asked Krillen as Gohan's roar subsided.
"It's been a while," stated Gohan as he remained in position, hus general aura still residing off of his body.
An aura which Videl felt all too well. She couldn't help but feel that if Gohan were to make himself known in the coming tournament, he would be able to scare off more than half the competition without so much as lifting a finger. At this stage she couldn't help but figure out just how Gohan had managed to assert himself as the dominant figure when taking control of the juniors within her father's dojo.
It also begged a further question. How would her father react to such a display of power?
"How are you doing Erasa?" asked Gohan, forcing Videl to look at her friend. While she had been subjugated to Gohan's power beforehand and had consequently known what to roughly expect, Erasa had had no such experience. Videl pictured that she had been in a highly familiar situation barely a handful of days prior when she had first experienced Gohan's power.
"Oh, well...you know," said Erasa from her spot on the ground, having been unable to maintain her footing during Gohan's experiment. "I've been better I guess."
"Well then," said Gohan as he walked towards them casually, not even caring about the strength resonating from his body. His frame shifted before he ended up pointing at the highest point of the island, a mountain peak a vast number of miles away from where they were standing. "What say we show off what Krillei can do," stated Gohan. "Whatcha say Krillin? Reckon you can slice off the top of that mountain?"
As soon as those words were spoken, Videl's mind had gone blank, Conscious thought had left her equilibrium as she focused solely on the mountain that Gohan had pointed at. A peak which she dared not reach due to suffering altitude sickness. Despite that, Gohan had requested of his friend to slice off the top of said mountain.
As ridiculous as it sounded, she was yet to hear a single person reject the idea that Gohan had had. Videl watched as Krillin stepped forward, holding at his shoulder as if he had suffered some form of injury. Videl swiftly determined that every possible question she had was about to be answered.
Planting himself in place, Videl watched as Krillin lifted his arm above his head. Several moments passed before Videl witnessed something that she couldn't comprehend. A golden disc, several feet in diameter, formed above Krillen's hand. Videl hadn't seen anything like it before in her life.
"Wow," she could hear Erasa say from beside her. Videl believed that if she could fins her words then she would have muttered something very similar.
"Destructo disc!" shouted Krillin before he launched the thing that he had created forward. Videl and Erasa watched in awe as it soared forth towards the peak of the mountain. As it flew forward, Videl found herself in disbelief as she watched Krillin's creation reach the mountain and cleanly sliced through the entire slab of solid stone with ease!
The peak began to slide down the entire side of the clifface, picking up tremendous speed before it inevitably crashed into the ground below, sending debris in all manner of directions. "Oh my gosh!" exclaimed Erasa as she raised her hands to her mouth.
"That's...just not possible," said Videl in absolute disbelief.
"Trust me Videl," said Gohan as he held out his hand in front of her. Videl's shock continued as a glowing blue light formed in Gohan's palm. "Impossible isn't going to be in your vocabulary."
