Hiccup was born on the Isle of Berk, where he was treated as an outcast. He was disowned by his father, shunned by Astrid, bullied by Snotlout and hated by the villagers. One day, he meets Toothless the Night Fury. He realized that dragons are intelligent, soft-hearted animals. Hiccup banished when Astrid caught him when he was meeting Toothless.
