"Trying to be the hero this time detective? Good for you. Now, I'm about two hours, I will give you instructions. If I so much as smell cops around, I will kill this pretty lady."

"Fine. No cops. Just me."

The line went dead and he turned around to see his father leaning against the wall.

"What was that about? Just you? Are you insane?"

"I must be. I gotta do this. It's the only way to save a girl's life. Me for her. That's the deal."

Frank sighed. "Wear a vest and ear piece. You won't be alone."

"Great. Just have everyone stay at least a few blocks away. If he so much as thinks I'm with anyone else, he'll kill her."

Danny received a text from an unknown number giving him the location to be at by a certain time. He put a vest on drive his car over to the spot.

"I'm here." He said into the ear piece.

"Be careful Reagan." Baez said.

"When am I not?"

He received another text.

"Get out of the car and walk toward the red car on the other side of the lot. There, you will take off your vest and unarm yourself. There's another phone taped to the front left tire. I will give you further instructions after you retrieve it."

"Okay. He's here somewhere." He slowly got out of the car and looked around. "Red car at the end of the lot. License plate: Romeo Victor Alpha 3517. He wants me to ditch everything."

"Leave the mic Danny. He doesn't know about it."

"Copy that."

He jogged up to the car and ditched his vest along with his phone. Then he reached under the car and grabbed the other phone. A text was already pulled up.

"Open the trunk and release the girl. Then walk 10 yards to the east and get in the back of a black Sedan."

"Girl's in the trunk. He didn't say whether she was alive or not."

He slowly popped the trunk open and walked toward it. He opened it slowly and sighed in relief when he saw movement inside.

"She's alive."

"I got her. She's safe. Now get out of there." Baez said.

"Copy."

A text came up.

"Don't think about it detective. Remember, I know where your wife and kids live."

"Sonuva--"

"What?"

"He's listening...wait, there's another car approaching with the plates reading: David Omega Charlie 535. Approaching now."

Wilder was in the driver's seat and he pulled out a gun.

"Drop the phone and get in."

"I thought I was supposed to come to you."

"Oh, you were. Things change. Now, get in and we will have a nice civil conversation. There's cuffs in the back. Put them on."

"Don't do it Danny."

He just ignored Baez and got in the back seat and put the cuffs on.

"Okay. What now?"

"Now, you tell your partner you'll see her later. Your taking a ride with me."

"I don't have anything to tell her."

"Sure you do. That ear piece that's barely noticeable in your right ear. You can keep it in, take it out or do whatever you want."

"I don't have to tell her. She can hear everything."

"Good. Then she can hear what I'm about to tell you. I have someone you love dearly."

"What? What are you talking about?"

"Danny, I just got a call from Linda. Jack's missing." He heard Baez say.

Danny reached up front and put his cuffed hands around Wilder's neck.

"Where is he?"

"He's fine and unharmed. But it's up to you if he stays that way."
