I was 6 moons old now, which meant in clans words I would be ready for training and battle, I didn't know how I felt about that, but I wasn't in a clan! So it didn't matter! But I was a lot bigger! And if clan kits can fight other cats, then surely I could-
"Whatcha doing?" came a loud whisper from behind me interrupting my thoughts, and plans, before pawing at my tail.
Frost pushed past me to sit on the open window, "Frooost," I whined jumping up after her, careful not to fall off into the ground below.
Frost nudged me, her yellow eyes knowledgeable, she wasn't really asking, "So whatcha doing?"
I shushed her before saying in a quiet voice, "I'm going to go see where Falcon goes, and imma follow him and…" I paused, I didn't really know what I planned to do, but Falcon always had such cool stories, and some of them were recent, so wherever they went it must be amazing!
Frost continued for me, "And then we can go tell everyone all about it!"
I didn't even question that she invited herself.
Soon enough Falcon appeared to snack on the food left outside, before leaving, I had been watching every night to watch if they had returned.
After waiting a little bit I leaped out, snagging at tree branches to slow my fall and having a rough landing on the thankfully soft grass, meanwhile Frost just stared at me unimpressed, hopping down easily navigating through the tree.
Frost stood over me trying to hold back her snickers, "Your hopeless."
"Shush! Falcon is going to get away!" was all I said back scrambling off into the dark woods with Frost at my heels.
Keeping ourselves low to the ground, we moved swiftly through the forest dappled in moonlight, trying to stay quiet.
Falcon walked slow enough for us to creep behind him, glancing at each other excitedly as our only communication. Listening to the wind rustle the leaves and the long shadows stretch out like claws.
A squirrel gnawed on a large acorn at the base of a tree. Frost signaled with her tail for me to stay back.
The poor thing had no chance.
And by thing I mean Frost, the squirrel scrambled up the tree before Frost was even a tailength away. She got a mouthful of leaves, fixing her glare on me, "Don't you dare say anything."
I couldn't hold back my laughter, before Frost slapped me with her paw, "Shush! We don't want them to hear…"
As the moon climbed higher in the sky, and the forest began to thin out, Falcon turned around causing us both to leap back in shock.
Falcon sighed, but their good humor shone through, "Careful around the leaf litter, you've been making noise the whole time. You've gone far enough, you've had your adventure, I'm sure you saw some fascinating things."
Frost and me blinked twice.
Without waiting for a response Falcon bounded off at a much quicker pace.
Standing up I started heading home before Frost bit my tail pulling me back, "Are we doing this or not?" she questioned raising her eyebrow, and glancing in Falcon's direction.
I stared at her blinking still, "Falcon told us to go home. Besides Mom's probably worried, and and I don't wanna get in trouble."
Frost stuck out her tongue, sticking her head in the air, whiskers twitching in anticipation, "We had a mission! And I don't wanna get lost, we should stick near Falcon." I knew she wasn't that worried, Frost always prided herself in being the one who had been born a wildcat and survived there alone as a kitten. "What if we got lost?" She said with wide innocently fake eyes, "Imagine whats out there… Falcon could protect us."
Frost made a good point even if she was just playing me like a fiddle, with a loud sigh I relented much to her chagrin, and she immediately skipped off in the direction that Falcon went.
I bolted after her, running through the undergrowth before colluding with her, sending us both tumbling onto a road.
"Why'd you push me!" hissed Frost puffing up angrily, glancing around with wide eyes, "Come on, there's no cars coming!"
Scrambling across the slippery road glancing both ways for the lights alerting us to the things our housefolk would get in.
Frost looked down at the murky water she was standing in shaking her paws and getting some of the green stuff onto my coat, "Yuck!"
I parted my mouth to taste the air before saying in my calmest voice possible, "I can't smell which direction Falcon went."
Frost sniffed the air, "I can't either!"
… That meant we were alone in the dark woods…
