I flattened my ears against my head staring at the forest sensing something was watching us. Slinking through the undergrowth in hopes of killing one of us. Fear coursed through my entire being. I shouldn't have done this, I dragged Frost along, it was all my fault.
Meanwhile Frost beside me arched up back and hissed only for a small innocent enough looking green kitten to splash into the mucky water with us.
"Intruders of Shadowclan!" they yelled leaping at my face with a squeaky voice, and instead missing and crashing into my hind leg, "Take that!"
I stared back at the younger kit miffed.
Frost looked like she wanted to hold back a giggle. I stared at the kitten skeptically, were they okay? Where were their parents?
Their tail lashed in frustration, before speaking, "You're too small to be intruders!"
Frost took immediate offense to that, "Hey! You're about half our size!"
"Do you want me to attack you again? I was just warming up before!" hissed the kitten, her voice still comically squeaky.
Frost rolled her eyes, taking a step back dramatically, "Oh no. Not again! Spaaaaareee me."
This only served to get the gray kitten upset even more, her yellow eyes narrowing, "Your mocking me!"
A familiar cat emerged from the bushes staring down at us three scrutinizingly.
The gray kitten was the first to respond taking her eyes off of us and bouncing over to Falcon, "Falcon Talons! I caught some intruders."
"Aw, look at my little warrior!" Falcon chuckled as they rubbed up against her.
"Huh?" said Frost, tilting her head in confusion, "Do you have a kid?"
Falcon just laughed more, "N-No, m-me? Have a kid, haha! No, this Featherkit," Featherkit bumped up against Falcon. "Sorry, Featherpaw, and I found her wandering around."
Featherkit waved her plumy gray tail in the air, "I didn't want to go with the other cats so I hid, for a realllllyyy long time, but then I got hungry, and everyone was goneā¦"
That was just really sad. I couldn't imagine my Mom just leaving me.
"I don't need your pity! I have been living it up! No rules, no annoying siblings." said Featherkit, what an odd name now that I think of it.
Oops did I say that outloud-
Why did everyone around me have to get so easily offended? It sometimes felt like I was walking on glass.
"Yeah I don't have a Mom, and I'm fine." boasted Frost glancing over at Featherkit, even me, being as dimwitted as I am could see the kinship that had sparked in Frost's eyes. Two spitfire rouges roughing it out. "Who even needs a Mom? Useless!"
"Mama's boy!" giggled Feather, and for a second I felt like I really really wanted to smack her into the murky water.
Besides for all we knew Frost could have been an abandoned clan kitten.
Still nobody insulted my Mom like that, the frustration bubbling up inside me came out in bitter moment, "I wasn't aware having nobody to love you was something to be proud about."
I regretted it immediately as Featherkit went rigid and Frost's expression was flashing through hurt and angry.
Frost's paw swiped faster than I could even see it and I was just left with a stinging blood wound, I recoiled in shock, Frost generally kept her claws sheathed.
"I'm sorry! I didn't mean that!" I blurted out, rubbing my cheek. Frost merely glared pointedly away and Feather just blinked in confusion.
I really done goofed up.
Slowly I approached Frost ready to flinch away if she decided to swat at me again, gently rubbing aganist her cheek.
Frost looked over at me murderously.
"So uh, who wants to practice hunting?" asked Falcon akwardly, "We can hunt on the way back."
