"She's back!"

"Oh my god she's back!"

"Where has she been?..not that I care but that girl is a school freak..she wouldn't miss school for nothing."

"I heard her mother died."

"Me too!"

"She did die..I think they had the funeral like yesterday and no body came but her."

"Of course, I mean who would go?"

"How did she die?"

"I heard the doctor's put her down..She was to messed up for them to handle so they just put her down like a dog!"

"Well at least we don't have to worry about her any more, now we just have to deal with her daughter."

"Look at her, she's totally lost it..I mean the only one would could love her is dead."

"I thought she had a father?"

"My dad said he sees her father at the bars all the time crying his eyes out..You know I heard she didn't cry when her mother died, maybe she doesn't even care about her."

"Insane people aren't people, they don't care about anything."

"You would think she would cry or be upset that her mother died?"

"Her mother..."

"Died.."

Maka stares out of the window next to her..A blank expression on her face as she watches the clouds move across the sky.

She hears all there saying.

But she doesn't care.

She can't let them get to her. She has a purpose. Revenge. It will keep her going. It's all she needs.

She hears their conversations..She feels their stares. Some look at her with pity...others with hate. She likes the hateful glares more than the pity.

Maka doesn't want to be pitied by these people.

"I kinda feel bad for her.."

"Yeah me too..I mean her mom died.."

They don't really care, they just like to make themselves higher. They just like to hear themselves talk.

"I say she deserved it! She's a killer! My fucking dog is gone because of her so I say fuck her."

"Yeah she's a witch! Don't feel sorry!"

"She's insane!"

"She's crazy!"

..Yup..probably..

She wishes her mother was still with her. If only she could have stayed by her side. Even if she was just a shadow...It would be better then this. Maka wishes she could have seen her mother's face before she left. Maka closes her eyes trying to picture her mother...and not her shadow.

"Did you hear they put her mother in a wooden coffin?" A boy sneakers. "I wouldn't even put my dog in that!"

Maka opens her eyes.

Her mother is dead, and in a box like they are all saying.

She is gone.

She will never see her again. She faded away. Not even her spirit remains.

Maka feels a deep pain grip her heart and she bows her head.

"Hey look at her."

"Do you think she's going to cry?"

"I hope so! that would be fucking funny."

"Come on guys I don't want to see that.."

Maka takes deep breaths, feeling all eyes on her. She will make it. She will. They can say what they will. Her mother loved her. Maka can't break. She can't kill herself. She has to get stronger...So that she can kill him.

She remembers the pink haired boy..She thinks of the way he held her..Thinks of his smile..of his kiss..

The pain in her heart triples. How dare she even think of that? She bites her lip again. She needs to punish herself for even entertaining the thought. He took everything from her. He did it with that smile on his face. She will kill him. She swears it. With everything in her, she will kill him. She will never speak his name again.

"That girl is really about to lose it."

"Good, they can finally take her away."

"Yeah just like her mother!"

"Hey guys, who am i?" There's a bump as a boy stands on his desk, he starts twirling in a circle. "It wasn't me! It wasn't me! It was that man with three eyes that's not really there! He is the one who burned down my house not me! It wasn't me! It wasn't me!"

She hears the student's laugh at that.

Maka's breathing is becoming uneven as she grips her pencil.

She's about to lose it..

She feels it..

"Hey Maka can you tell me who I am-

Suddenly she hears something that sounds like someone punching a desk..hard.

Maka looks over to see Kid holding that boy by his shirt..his fist is back like he's about to punch him but..

The boy is already bleeding out of his nose.

"You piece of trash." Kid's voice is dark as he throws the boy across the room, he hits a desk hard causing it to fall over. "You're all trash!" He looks at all their class mates, he's panting, his eyes dangerous.

Everyone looks scared.

"How could you be so cruel?! What do you get some sick pleasure in this?! To kick Maka while she's down? Are you even human?!"

No one answers him.

"You all disgust me.." His voice is a growl as he walks over to Maka..His hard eyes change instantly to concern. "..Maka lets go, you don't need this. Your grade is fine, I could even talk to the teacher about getting your work..You don't need to be here with these people..It's too soon."

"I'm fine Kid..I can handle this." She looks away from him feeling..ashamed.

She's so weak.

She can't even go to school without Kid having to step up for her. She's already relying on him. She doesn't feel like herself. She couldn't even bring herself to put her hair up. It's down, just like how she feels. Limp and useless. She feels scared, and worried..and she hates the pity in Kid's eyes.

Maka doesn't like to be pitied.

"..Are you sure?" Kid sits next to her, putting a gentle hand on her shoulder..

He handles her with such care.

She knows he's afraid she will break again.

It's possible.

And she knows it.

Maka just nods.

"..Are you ok Maka?..I'm so sorry I didn't get here sooner I ran into a problem and I.." He bows and shakes his head. "There's no excuse..I should have made sure I would get here with you..I should have known these people wouldn't be caring.."

"You don't have to babysit me Kid." Maka takes a deep breath.

"..I just worry about you." He puts a hand over hers, giving her a friendly squeeze.

"Your going to give yourself gray hairs at age 18 if you keep stressing." She looks over at him. She locks eyes with his golden orbs. "I'm fine Kid..trust me."

"..." He just frowns..because he knows.

She isn't fine. Her mother is dead. Spirit is a dick. The town is full of ass holes.

But she's going to have to be fine. She will be fine. She'll force herself back together. She'll get stronger...Even if she has to use Kid to make it she'll do what needs to be done. Maka wants to be able to put herself together but...She doesn't know if she'd be this strong if she didn't have Kid to fall back on.

It sucks. She relies on him too much. Kid said it makes him happy but even so...I just makes Maka feel weak.

"You're going to get in trouble for hurting that boy you know?" She looks over to see the boy holding his nose, he glares over at Kid but Maka knows he won't do anything.

"I do not care." He shakes his head, a deep glare on his face.

"Well I do."

This gets Kid's breath to hitch..His expression falling..His eyes shine brightly as he looks at her.

"W-What?"

"I care if you get in trouble..jeez do I come off as that much of a bitch that I wouldn't care?" She raises an eye brow.

"N-No of course not I just.." He looks down at his hands..His cheeks are slightly tinted. "..You just never have said it before."

"Huh." She looks over at him. "Well I thought it was obvious, aren't we friends?" You're the new anchor. Sorry Kid.

"Yes I just.." He shakes his head..a small smile on his face.

"Of course I care Kid...you're my ride home." She smirks and puts a hand on his shoulder.

She has to be an ass. It's just a part of who she is. Back to the normal.

"Right." Kid chuckles a little..He almost seems happy with this.

He's happy because she's acting like herself.

He's happy because she's talking.

He's happy because she isn't broken.

"What the fuck happened in here?" The teacher walks in looking at the knocked over desks and the boy that is still bleeding out of his nose.

The whole class points at Kid..there all glaring at him. They hate him because he's kind to her.

They will all turn against him and shun him because of her.

"..Kid?" His expression falls. "..Is this true?"

"Yes." He puts his hands out in front of him, his back so straight as he looks the teacher in the eyes. "It is."

"..Ok." The teacher goes to the chalk board. "Ok so today class we are going to-

"Hey!"The boy with the bleeding nose cries. "He fucking hit me! Aren't you going to do something?!"

"If Kid hit you I know you deserved it." The teacher looks back at him with hard eyes. " Stop crying you baby, if you must go to the nurse, if not shut up."

"It's because he's the mayor's son.." The boy grumbles as he sits down, his arms crossed.

"This is why I love this teacher." Maka can't help but to chuckle.

"Agreed." Kid smiles enjoying her laughter.

"Today we are going to go over what makes someone a wimp." The teacher turns to glare at the boy with the bloody nose. " Since you don't want to stop crying why don't you come up so all can see what they don't want to be."

Needles to say both Kid and Maka enjoyed this class very much.

"Are you sure about this?" Kid looks over at her after he parked his car in front of her house. He looks at her in concern. "..It's Friday..it's the weekend you shouldn't spend it alone..or worse with Spirit."

"Spirit won't come home." Maka opens her car door. "I"ll be fine alright?"

"..Maka it's not good to be alone..not after all you have gone through..." His voice is soft..She hears the pity in his voice. He's worried.

She doesn't like to be pitied.

"See ya Kid." She gets out of the car. "I'll be fine..I'm going to take a nice bath and just sit around the house..it's going to be great. You have nothing to worry about."

"..." He still frowns, a conflicted look on his face.

Maka knows he doesn't want to leave. "And...If I need you I'll give you a call. You said I could-"

"Yes! Please give me a call if you need me. I'll be right here." Kid starts to smile. His mood perking up just from that small gesture. He's so happy with her saying she'll call. He truly is strange.

She shuts the door and walks up to her house. She turns and forces a smile for Kid before she walks in.

Maka lets out a sigh of relief. It's nice to be around some one who cares but..sometimes..you just need to be alone. If she's alone she doesn't have that nagging feeling.

She needs her alone time. She doesn't need pity, hate, or concern. She likes being alone..the quiet..The only feelings she has to worry about are her own. No one is here to judge her, to pity her. It's just her, and she likes that.

She tries to ignore this nagging feeling in her chest.

Maka walks over to the living room couch, flopping down on it as she pulls her notebook from her book bag.

She takes a deep breath. She has to do it. If she doesn't she'll never be able to use her notebook again. Kid took care of it for her. She trusts him. She knows he wouldn't let her down. Feeling slightly sweaty she flips through her notebook.

There's only drawings of Kid's eyes and random pages she made doodles in. Nothing about that boy. Nothing to taint her notebook. She finds the next blank page, ignoring the obvious ripped out pages. She writes her thoughts.

"My mom came to me as a shadow after her funeral. She told me the truth about him. That he poisoned her and lead her to her death. She also said some things about a demon and witches but...it must be madness. Even in the end she wasn't cured. I'm sorry mom.

I'msorryi'msorryi'msorryi'msorry

i'm barely keeping myself together. I won't give up. I can't give up. I promise you mom. I know you can't see this but I hope you hear my thoughts. Watch me from heaven. I'll get strong. So strong I can stand on my own. So strong that I can kill-"

Suddenly Maka hears glass shatter.

She stops writing and looks over. She doesn't see anything.

Maka sets her notebook on the table in front of her before she walks over to the kitchen. On the floor is broken pieces of a cup..The cabinet is open.

Huh..She doesn't remember that being open..

She just shrugs it off as gets the broom and cleans up the glass. Maka shuts the cabinet before she starts walking back to the couch.

She starts thinking of her mother again only to hear glass shatter behind her. Maka turns around. The cabinet is back open, this time a plate is broken on the floor.

..There is no way that plate could have just fell out..

Maka frowns as she rubs her eyes before she looks back at it. There is no plate on the floor, the cabinet is closed.

..Huh..

Maka turns and walks back to the couch.

..Is she losing it?

She takes a deep breath as she sits back, down taking the note book.

She's just a little mess up..It's no big deal. She hears a door creak open, a stomp following after. Maka tenses. That sounded too much like a foot step.

"Spirit?" She raises an eye brow as she gets up starting to look for the man. She could of swore she didn't see his car though. Maka hears something break..That came from her room.

Her door is open.

"Spirit what the hell-

Maka marches in pissed off only to find no one is in her room.

It's empty.

"..What?" She looks around as she takes a step forward. Something crunches under her foot. She looks down seeing she stepped on her picture..The picture of her and her mother. Maka frowns as she slowly picks up the frame..The glass is cracked.

It's cracked over her face. But Maka isn't paying attention to that..She's stuck on her mother..

Her words start to come back to her. The words she was trying to ignore. That the demon would be after her now. That she would start to feel him soon. She tries to shake it off but a shiver is making it's way down her spine. She's starting to sweat. She almost screams when she hears a bang in the living room. In desperation she tries to blame it on Spirit. She's almost praying she sees her shit father.

Maka places the picture back on her dresser before she marches back out into the living room. "Spirit!-

He isn't here.

The living room is empty. The TV is on though, it's on a channel with nothing but static. Is this...really a demon? What does that mean? Or is she just crazy right now? Has she lost it already?

Maka walks over to the TV and turns it off. She turns around and starts to walk back to the couch- The TV turns back on, she can here the static.

"Shit!" She growls as she goes over to the wall next to the TV and unplugs it. "Now lets see you come back on!."

It doesn't.

"You mustn't be alone." Her mother's voice again. Is this...really real? She turns to go grab her note book to gather her thoughts but-

Her notebook is gone.

That feeling of dread is increasing. It's getting harder to swallow but she starts looking around the house for her notebook. She can't let anyone take it. Even if it is a demon.

She knows she didn't misplace it. She left it right on the table. Suddenly her door slams shut causing her to jump.

She almost pissed her self.

Maka's heart is starting to beat fast as she throws open her door only to find it's empty..She hears something move behind her.

Maka turns to see a chair slowly moving across the floor..it's moving by it's self. Her heart is about to pound out of her chest. It jerks suddenly so it's facing her. She feels like someone is watching her..like someone is in that chair.

"I-It can't be! Demons aren't real! That...This can't-" Maka grips her fist as she marches up towards it. She stops right in front of it..A dark feeling is gripping her heart. It's just a chair..No one is in it. She's losing it..It's just a chair.. Maka reaches a shaky hand..slowly inching towards the chair..

She's getting closer..The dark feeling is getting stronger.

She's almost there-

The door bell rings.

Maka screams and jumps back but once she realizes it was just the door bell..She's relieved. The darkness seems to get thinner. Her mother told her she can't be alone. She's trusted in her mother all this time...Even if it's crazy it must be true. She came before her to warn her about what's happening. A demon. A witch that cursed her. She...It's crazy but that dread and fear she felt was real. It's all like her mother said.

She moves past the chair to open the door. Kid stands before her..He looks nervous.

"Ah..Hi Maka." He waves awkwardly.

"Kid!" Maka can't help to grab a hold of him and yank him inside. "I was just about to call you! Some really crazy shit has been happening and-"

"What's happening Maka?" Kid's eyes are wide but he seems relieved that Maka didn't seem bothered by his presence. She can't help to notice he's holding more ice cream and a bag of movies. He really went out of his way again.

"This chair has been-" Maka turns to point to the chair but.. It's gone. Her note book is on the table. The TV is plugged in. its like nothing happened.

"A chair?" Kid asks, looking around.

No. All the evidence is gone but she knows how she felt and what she saw. Her mother...her mother warned her about this. She said that she needs to tell Kid but...What if this is the last straw? If he leaves her because she's too crazy will she be able to stay sane? He's the only one that would stay around her. If she can't be alone then...

Maka walks over to the couch, holding her head in her hands.

"..Are you ok Maka?" Kid walks over putting his hands on her shoulders, he frowns. "Your face is red..you look sick..What's wrong?"

"Kid...I think...Something is really wrong."

"Please tell me Maka. What can I do?"

"...Hey Kid i'm going to say something really crazy but...I don't know what else to do. I can't ignore it when...My mother is the one who..." Maka swallows. She blinks when Kid gets on his knees in front of her so he's below her. He grabs her hands and looks into her eyes. Maybe it's those familiar golden orbs. Maybe it's because she's desperate. But she talks.

"Hey Kid. Will you listen to me?"

" Of course. I'll listen to anything you have to say."

"You know yesterday at the funeral...how I ran into the forest all of a sudden?" Kid nods, not looking away from her. " I saw my mom in the forest. It wasn't even a ghost but more like a shadow but it was her. It was my mom, Kid." She tries to keep herself from crying. Kid hasn't flinched. "She told me...Some crazy things. Some things I was willing to believe and others I wasn't. She told me that...That you know who poisoned her."

Kid's eyes widen at that but he squeezes her hands as if to tell her to keep going. "She also said...that what killed her was a curse. A curse from a witch." Kid tenses up. More like he froze but she has to keep going. "She told me now that she's dead...the curse will be on me. A demon will come to get me. She told me to tell you. That you could help me. I didn't believe but...I think the demon is after me-"

"Maka you should have told me right away." Kid's voice is firm. There's rage building in his eyes.

"I couldn't. I don't get why my mom told me to tell you. You must think I'm nuts-"

"No Maka. I believe you. Of course I believe you. You don't know what I am. The fact that you said your mother told you to seek me out...she must have known the truth about me and my father...I...I have something to tell you too Maka. But please. Lets go to my place. I need to tell father about this. We'll have to start some counter measures against this curse."

"Huh?" Maka blinks, looking at him like he's the one who's crazy. She wasn't expecting this reaction at all. He's dead serious.

"Please pack up whatever you would like. I think you should live with us for the time being till we get this curse off of you. We have to be diligent."

Maka stares at him but Kid doesn't crack a smile. He's stern. Maka wonders if he would carry her out against her will if she told him no now. Those golden orbs are a swirl of emotion.

"...Okay." It doesn't feel real. It hasn't felt real since her mother came before her. But this feels like a dream. She packs up some clothes and her notebook. She has plenty at his place. She doesn't have much. With that she gets in Kid's car. He drives quickly to his place. Almost recklessly.

It really doesn't feel real.

Maka sips at the hot chocolate in her hand slowly. She can hear Kid and his father talking behind the door but can't make out what they are saying. Kid sat her down, made her hot chocolate and put a blanket over her before telling his father they had to talk. The bubbly man lost his smile real quick looking at Kid's face. Not that Maka can blame him. She's never seen him like this.

Soon enough the door opens and both Kid and his father have similar faces.

"So." The mayor smiles, sitting down in front of Maka. "Kid told me everything. You did the right thing coming out to tell Kid. I know it's hard to believe. But we believe you completely."

"You...do?" Maka blinks. She looks between the two of them.

"Maka I..." Kid pauses. "...I haven't been completely honest with you. About who I am...or what I do. I was scared that you wouldn't understand. I was scared that..." He pauses. "...Forgive me."

"...Forgive you for what?"

"Me and my son here are witch hunters." Kid was having trouble so his father cuts in. "We kill witches to protect everyone."

"Huh?" Maka waits for it to make sense. It doesn't.

"I didn't know how to tell you." Kid mumbles. "The times I couldn't hang out or if I ever had to miss school...it was because of a witch. That's why I got so angry that people were calling you a witch. I knew that a true witch was killing the animals. It took awhile to find her but we did and we killed her."

She wants to call them insane. But her mind is frozen. Her mother told her to come to them. Did she know they did this? And she trusts them enough to say they can help? Are...Are witches really real? Is that what killed her mother?

"I'm sorry about your mother Maka. I had no idea she was cursed." The mayor frowns. He looks remorseful. "Your mother was right to tell you to come to us. I just wish she had done the same. I'm surprised that she knew of our nature...yet she never said anything or treated us different. She was a wonderful woman."

"I...I wonder why my mom didn't come to you guys. Why did she..." why did she have to die?

They are both quiet. Kid seems like he wants to say something but he's biting his tongue. She hasn't been able to look at him. She's not mad at him. She just...It's hard for her to process all this. If she was in Kid's shoes there's no way she would say anything. If her mother didn't come before her, and then Kid admitted he was a witch hunter...Maka would just think he's crazy. That he's a murderer.

"Now...I know it's hard but if your mother gave any hints to who this witch is or any warnings about the curse itself it would be good to know." The mayor cuts into her thoughts.

"...She wasn't able to tell me the witch's name. She said the demon was keeping her from saying it. She did say that....He was working with her."

"He?" The mayor asks.

"A boy at Darkside asylum." Kid answers for her. "her mother also said he was poisoning her. Maybe he gave her something that made the curse stronger?"

"Did you recognize him? Does he look like any witch we've encountered?"

"No." Kid frowns, shaking his head.

"Alright that doesn't give us much..." the mayor looks at Maka again. "...Anything else?"

"She told me that I shouldn't be alone. And that I shouldn't look in mirrors." Maka swallows. "When I was alone at the house...stuff started happening. Things moved on their own. Doors slammed. This chair had moved and I felt someone was looking at me. Something was in that chair. I wanted to be wrong. I was about to reach out to it but...Kid knocked before I could. When Kid came in...everything went back to normal."

"Thank god I came over" Kid puts a hand over his heart. "no matter what you can't interact with it."

"Kid is right. We will make sure you're not alone but if there ever comes a time for some reason you are alone, never try to reach out to it. You give it more power. I'll order the servants to get rid of all the mirrors. I'll start putting some protective charms around the house. They should help in weakening the curse. With most curses we won't be able to destroy it till the witch is dead. We'll try to get information whenever we hunt as well."

"i won't let that witch take you Maka." Kid says with conviction. "We'll do all we can. I promise."

The mayor picks up a phone and starts talking to someone. She thinks its about the mirrors. She can't keep up. "We'll take them out of your room first so you can rest." He says to her.

Maka sips her hot chocolate. It's not really hot anymore. More like cold chocolate.

"Maka your room is ready." Kid takes the cup from her. He opens his mouth only to close it. "...I...I can get a servant to go up with you-"

"Come with me." Maka stands up. Again he looks surprised. Did he think she would push him away? She starts walking off. Kid is quick to walk with her. They walk into her room without saying anything. When they walk in, Kid shuts the door.

"I thought you'd be angry with me." he admits.

"Well to be honest...I would think you're crazy if my mother didn't come before me. I get why you kept it from me. I can barely handle it now. Don't know if I could handle it before now."

"...If I'm honest...I was more scared that you would want nothing to do with me." Kid says softly. "I know...this isn't normal. I didn't think you'd be able to accept what I am. I...I didn't want you to leave me." Weakness. She hears it in his voice.

Maka can't help to laugh. Kid looks at her with his mouth agape.

"I-I know it's pathetic but maybe don't laugh-"

"I...I just thought it was funny. That's how I felt when I decided to tell you about seeing my mother. About the curse. I thought you'd think I was too crazy. I just thought it funny. We think alike. I never noticed."

Kid stands there looking more shocked then before. "You..." His face gets red. "You should know that I'd never leave you." He chuckles. "...we think the same? I...I never thought we would be laughing after I came clean. Thank you...Maka. I promise. No matter what. I won't abandon you. You don't have to think like that anymore. You can be open with me."

"Yeah, yeah." Maka averts her gaze from that soft smile. "You can come at me with whatever too. Seems like we're both in this crazed situation together so...Don't leave me out." Maka holds out her hand. Kid reaches out and grabs it. They shake like they are sealing a deal. He doesn't let go after. He just holds her hand.

"It's a promise."

"My brain is pretty fuzzy right now but you need to tell me about how you got into witch hunting. It's nuts too me you were doing all this crazy shit and then acting like a normal honor student." Maka smirks.

"I'll tell you anything you want to know." He seems happy with the interest. "...I'm sure you are tired Maka. I'll get one of our female servants to stay with you for the night-"

"Why don't you just stay with me?" Maka watches how he tenses. When he starts to pull away she tightens her grip on his hand. "I'd rather you then someone random."

"B-But..." Kid licks his lips. "...I...I suppose I could sleep on the floor. I was going to prepare an air mattress for the servant. I could sleep there. I just thought you wouldn't like me sleeping in your room-"

"Why wouldn't I? I'd feel better if you're here."

Kid tries to hide how he perks up but he can't. "I'll get the air mattress set up. I'll have a servant stay with you in the mean time-"

"nah i'll come with you. I'll help. It's the least I can do." Maka doesn't let him say no. Kid doesn't have much fight in him. They work together to get the air mattress together in her room. Only when Kid is in the room Is she fine with the lights being turned off. She knows he's here. She's sure she'll be safe.

Maka wakes up feeling hot. Without much thought she takes off her pants under the blanket. She hears an annoying noise so she sits up in bed. Kid is awake and deflating the air mattress. He's already dressed and ready for the day.

"Sorry it was bothering me." Kid mumbles. The mess bothered him enough that he would wake her up. Then again, looking at the clock its almost 12 in the afternoon. It's Saturday so-

Saturday.

Maka tries not to think anymore. She watches Kid roll up the mattress before putting it in the closet. "What are the plans for today?" Maka asks as she hops out of bed. She walks pass Kid to get to the dresser to pick out some clothes.

"Well I think-" Kid makes some kind of sound. Maka looks over at him. He's staring intently at the wall. "M-Maka you are in your underwear!"

"yeah I am." Maka looks down at her panties. "They aren't dirty or anything-"

"That's not the issue! You were wearing pants last night, what happen to those?- that's not the point either! I'm a man-"

"I don't care if you see." He's getting more flustered. Maka can't help to smirk. "What's wrong Kid? Worried you'd get a boner?" Maka teases. She expected him to say something witty. He actually starts choking.

"I...I! I w-would n-never!" He's not looking at her again. "B-Breakfast is ready downstairs!"

"I was just kidding. You don't have to get so worked up." Maka shakes her head.

"It's hard for me not too..." He mumbles, putting a hand over his heart.

"Alright I'll get dressed before you have a heart attack." Maka rolls her eyes before she goes in the bathroom. She was just in a shirt and underwear. She even still had a bra on. Looking down at herself..it's nothing special. She was even wearing granny panties. Maka decides to move past Kid's weird behavior and just get dressed. Good old sweat pants and a T-shirt. She notices that where the mirror was is just wall. They really did get rid of all the mirrors. Just for her. She brushes her teeth and hair, leaving it down once again.

When she comes out, Kid seems to be back together. They walk down to the kitchen. She can already smell the eggs and bacon. The mayor is at the table. He gives her a smile.

"Good morning Maka! More like good afternoon!" He chuckles. "Hope you're hungry!"

"You know it." Maka sits at the table and starts digging in.

"You seem to be in good spirits. That's good."

"I'm managing." Maka swallows. "...Thanks for letting me stay here. And getting rid of the mirrors."

"Of course. I told you we would help you. And you're very special to my son so-"

"Dad." Kid cuts in.

"what it's true." The mayor wiggles his eyebrows. Getting Kid to flush.

"I noticed the paper on my bedroom. Are those the charms?" Maka can't help but to ask. They are on a lot of the walls around the house too.

"Yes. In my studies I've found books about charms that can help in fighting against a witch's curse. It's the first time I've had to use them. Did they seem to help?"

"I don't know. Nothing happened last night but I don't know if that's because of the charms or because Kid was in the same room as me." Maka seems to think. "But...I don't know...i feel like the air is lighter."

"Good." The mayor smiles again. "Today we will start looking for this witch. I've caught wind that there's another witch that's been hiding about. She might know something."

"You're going to hunt today?" Maka stops eating.

"Yes. We will let you know if we find anything about about the one who cursed you."

"And a servant will be with you while I'm out." Kid reassures. "You won't be alone."

"...Alright." Maka pokes at her food. "When are you guys going out?"

"Soon. We need to stake her out and gather some information."

"i guess you have to go Kid."

"We always go together when there's a hunt. It's for safety."

"..." Maka puts food in her mouth. She feels stupid again. She feels weak. Can she not stand on her own without Kid? His presence has helped her sanity.

"I'll be back Maka. While I'm gone I'll have the servants get you something to play. Any game you want or system I'll buy for you. Just tell the servants what you want. Just please stay in the house and stay with a servant. It will protect you." Kid reassures.

" Can't I come with you guys?" Maka mumbles.

"It's too dangerous. You just found about what we do. I think it isn't wise for you to see it too. It's not pretty." The mayor says seriously.

"Alright." Maka tries to keep back her attitude. She'd just get in the way anyway. Once again, she feels useless.

"Kid we should head out. Day light is a wasting." The mayor says cheerily.

"I'll be back later Maka." Kid says. He stares at her like he's hesitating to leave but in the end he leaves with his father.

"Maka I'll be caring for you today." A blonde women in a maid's outfit comes up next to her. She takes her empty plate and places it in the sink. Another servant gets to working on it. "Anything you want, I'll get it for you."

"...Get me some resident evil games." She needs to be numb. She can't think about how it's Saturday. She can't think about how Kid and his dad are off...hunting witches. She wonders how that is. She wonders how they kill them. She hasn't gotten to talk to Kid about it.

She hopes they make them suffer. Even if it's not the witch who killed her mother...it's a witch. Witch's caused her mother's death. They caused her to be cursed. She hates them. She has her purpose. One that she can get behind a lot quicker than the death of the boy...

Death to all witches.
