Well, I honestly didn't think I'd be posting anything so soon after my last one-shot but hey, the more the merrier! So I decided to do a songfic on Mine by Taylor Swift. A little cliche but I don't care. I don't own the song or Yu-gi-oh. Yu-gi-oh belongs to Kazuki Takahashi, Toei, Shueisha, Konami, etc. Also, I use dub names cause that's how I watched the anime.

On a spring day, Joey walked into a small diner and sat at a corner booth "Alright, get some lunch and back to work." He muttered as he grabbed a menu, perusing through the options. A few minutes later, Joey heard footsteps coming "Hello, my name is Yami Muto and I'll be your server…" A man, about 19 years old with narrowed eyes, tri-colored black hair with magenta tips, blonde streaks like lightning bolts sticking up in three directions, and bangs. Crimson met Brown and neither could look away "I'm sorry, but I didn't get your name." He said apologetically. Joey smirked at him "My name's Joey. Joey Wheeler." He introduced himself. Yami smirked at him, "Nice to meet you." He said.

After ordering his food and Yami gave the order to the cook, Yami came back "Hey sorry to bother you but can I sit down?" He wondered. Joey shrugged indifferently "I don't mind." He said nonchalantly. Yami sat down "Thanks! I can't leave during my break so I just sit down somewhere and pass the time." He declared passively. Joey nodded "Your just tryin' to pass the time." He acknowledged nonchalantly. After a few minutes of talking, Yami smiled at Joey "Hey, you want to hang out after my shift?" Yami asked, secretly hoping he'd say yes. Joey sighed "I can't after I eat, I have to go back to work which won't end till nine." He declined politely. Yami deflated at the turndown "Damn, I have class at 8:30 tomorrow." He answered disappointedly. Joey grimaced at the idea of being in a lecture hall at 8:30 A.M "I feel sorry for ya."He sympathized. "Trust me, it was not my first choice for class." He stated grumpily. Yami's face lit up with an idea and got out his notepad "Here's my number if you ever change your mind." He said as he scribbled his number down, ripped the paper off, and handed it to Joey. "Muto! Time to get back to work!" Someone called out. Yami groaned "I'll see you later." He bid farewell before walking away. Joey looked at the number "Maybe I'll save this for later." He mumbled as he stuffed the paper in his jacket pocket.

~Months later~

They were sitting next to each other on the couch in Yami's apartment, watching a movie on TV. Joey couldn't believe that he was here with Yami or anyone really. He was careful about who he let in. Yami sneakily clasped his hand around Joey's. Joey looked at their hands then smiled at Yami "I could definitely get used to this." He thought happily, content where his hand was. As he tried to not picture his future with Yami and focus on the movie.

On a hot summer day, Yami and Joey drove down to the beach and had fun being with each other, swimming, walking on the beach, etc. Both grabbed their towels, wrapped themselves up, and watched the sunset while down the beach Fireworks started to light up the sky "This was the best day." Yami declared before he wrapped his arm around Joey's shoulder causing goosebumps to go up Joey's arm as the night sky lit up with colors. Joey didn't know why but Yami's arm around his shoulder felt so right.

~ Two years later~

A U-haul truck was parked in front of a small two-story house, the back open and a plethora of boxes and furniture everywhere, Joey carried a box into the house, up to the second story to the bedroom. After ripping the masking tape off, started to put things on the nightstand, and paused when he got to the framed picture of his family, the last family picture before the divorce. Joey sighed sadly as he stared at the picture in his hands, a picture of his family. Before the hell, his life became hell before- A voice interrupted his thoughts "Joey? Are you in here?" Yami called out as he entered their bedroom, carrying a small box. Seeing his boyfriend, Joey quickly put what he was holding behind his back "Hey, everything almost brought in?" He asked, trying to sound normal. Yami nodded before he put down the box he was holding "What's that behind your back?" He wondered curiously. Joey bit his lip "What? T-there's n-nothing behind my back." He stuttered out nervously. Yami raised an eyebrow and walked closer "Joey.." He said while he tried to grab whatever was in Joey's hand behind his back. After a few tries, Yami sighed in defeat "Fine, keep your secret. I just thought we said we'd be honest with each other." He reminded him nonchalantly.

Seeing Yami start to walk away, Joey sighed heavily "Here." He said, removing his arms from behind his back. Yami turned back around "Are you sure?" He asked. Joey held the photo out to Yami, who took it "Is this you as a kid?" He asked curiously. Joey nodded "Yea, that's my family, well before everything." He confirmed before he sat on the bed. Yami stared at the photo, he could easily recognize three of the people as one was sitting in front of him and Yami has met Joey's mother and sister but not the man who he assumes is Joey's father "Before what?" He questioned. Joey sighed and ran a hand through his hair "The fightin' which lead to the divorce which leads to my dad drinkin' that after a while lead it to me closin' me off from people unless I trust' em." He explained bluntly. Yami gasped at the statement "That explains why he was closed off at the start." He thought feeling stupid for not realizing the reason why. Yami sat down next to Joey and grabbed his hand, squeezing it "I promise you that we won't make the same mistakes." He vowed determinedly. Joey smiled brightly "Thank you." he murmured before he kissed him. After pulling away, Yami stood up "How about we finish bringing the rest of the boxes and furniture?" He suggested happily. Joey laughed as he stood "Race you down there" He called out as he ran out of the room. Yami scoffed "Hey, Wait for me!" He said as he chased after him.

Yami sighed frustratedly as the papers were in his hand. The bills were high. "Hey, what's wrong?" Joey asked worriedly. Yami held out the bills to Joey "These! I have never seen bills this high." He declared as Joey took the bills. As Joey read the papers, he deflated at the numbers "Aw! I was hopin' to go and visit my sister." Joey wanted to visit Serenity at least once this summer before she goes back to university. "Maybe you can." Yami declared hopefully. Joey raised his eyebrow skeptically "How? The bills are pretty high." He reminded his boyfriend. Yami left the room and returned with a calculator. "If only you go, then there might be some money to use for some repairs to the house." Yami said as he crunched the numbers and showed them to Joey. Seeing that it would cut costs, Joey sighed "Well, if we could knock out one of the projects it'd be worth it." Joey begrudgingly agreed. Yami smiled as he kissed Joey's cheek "You better not leave me for someone there." Yami said seriously with a teasing smile. Joey chuckled "How can I? I have all I want right here." He declared lovingly before kissing Yami on the lips.

but as time went by, Yami and Joey both rose in their professions. Yami to COO of KaibaCorp while Joey climbed up to a sous chef at the restaurant he works at. The downside is they started to not have time for each other despite their efforts to do the opposite. Joey sighed into the phone "No, that's alright." He replied disappointedly. "Yes, I'm sure. You kick some corporate butt!" He encouraged Yami before he hung up the phone. Joey groaned frustratedly, Yami canceled another date night that Joey had planned. It was starting to feel like Joey was the only one to make an effort in their relationship anymore. "Is this how it's going to always be?" He wondered to himself. Joey's memories of all the times they were swirling in his mind, making him remember how happy he's been while being with Yami "Of course not! But that did give me an idea." He dismissed the notion before getting on the phone to call his work to request the night off.

Joey sat at the kitchen table waiting, he glanced at the clock on the stove, it was almost 2:30 in the morning and Yami wasn't home. Good thing he put up the food a while ago. The door opened, and Yami loosened the tie around his neck as he came through the living room into the kitchen and yawned "Hey, what are you doing up? I thought you'd be asleep by now." He commented curiously. Joey got up from his seat and gritted his teeth "I was waiting for you." He told him, pointedly. Yami looked at him, confused "Why were you waiting-" asked when it hit him, why. They were supposed to have dinner. Yami groaned "I'm so sorry." He apologized as he grabbed Joey's hand. Joey looked at him "Sure you are." He commented wryly, snaking his hand out of Yami's grip. "What's wrong with you?" Yami demanded, hurt by his letting go of his hand. Joey glared at Yami "What's wrong?" He asked rhetorically. "All I wanted was to spend some uninterrupted time with my boyfriend but no, I can't have that! I came second to a board meeting!" He ranted fumingly. "God, do you even remember how it felt to be by the water or how right it felt to put your arm around my shoulder? I do but I don't know if you do. The man I see in front of me isn't the one who made me feel that way." Joey admitted sadly. Yami ran his hand through his hair. "Everything is slipping through our fingers, isn't it?" He said frustratingly. Joey felt tears sting in the back of his eyes before he sauntered past Yami and went out the door.

Joey ran and stopped in the street. "God, why am I so stupid!" He growled to himself. He was kicking himself for falling as hard and deep as he has. Joey kept ranting to himself to the point where he didn't realize that footsteps were approaching him. "Joey…." Yami said softly. Joey turned around and saw his boyfriend "What the hell do you want?" He demanded hotly, wiping his tears away. Yami stepped closer but Joey took a step back "I'm sorry." Yami said apologetically. Joey glared and crossed his arms across his chest "For what?" Joey inquired, not budging. Yami blew out a puff of air "I'm sorry that I missed our dinner, My cousin wanted to go over the logistics for the project and I forgot to call." He apologized meekly. "I slaved over that dinner wanting to make it perfect and you couldn't even call to say you'd be late." Joey pointed out, causing Yami to wince. "Well, I couldn't get away." He defended weakly. Joey shook his head, frustrated. "This has been goin' on for months! I barely see you, we keep puttin' off the plans we have, and I don't feel loved anymore. Maybe we should just split up." He admitted before he tore away from Yami's gaze. Yami's heart shattered at the statement, that was the last thing he wanted "Your right, I haven't been the best boyfriend or even a good friend." He admitted, thinking back over the last few months when he blew off gatherings with friends or dates with Joey. "But I am going to do better, I swear." Yami declared fiercely.

Closing his eyes, Joey braced himself for the words 'I also think we should break up.' But the words never came, hearing the scraping of the pavement, he felt two hands cup the sides of his face and opened his eyes, Yami was in front of him "I made a promise to never leave you, Joey and I'm gonna keep it." Yami vowed softly, brushing his thumb across Joey's cheek. Joey stared at Yami, surprised "Are you sure that you want me?" He asked, wanting him to be absolutely sure. Yami smiled and nodded "Positive." He affirmed happily. "I remember being by the water during the fireworks, how right it feels to have an arm around your shoulders. I fell in love with a careless man's careful son who locked up his heart. You are the best thing that ever happened to me." He declared surely before kissing Joey.

After that, Joey and Yami decided to repair the broken trust and their relationship. After some time, they got married and decided to do what they always wanted to do, adopt. Joey came through the door with a pink bundle in his arms, Yami on his heels with the diaper bag slung over his shoulder and a baby carrier in his hand. Years later, They were at the beach with the baby girl, now a toddler making sand castles and playing in the water. A second baby came into their lives, this time a boy, and years went by. Like a projector, So many birthdays and beach days and so much more went by. In the last image, Two kids were in-between their parents in their parent's bed, and Yami smiled "I love you." Yami whispered lovingly. "I love you, too." Joey whispered happily.

"Sir, Sir!" Someone called out. Joey shook his head, snapping out of his stupor, and looked at the man, a very familiar man "I'm sorry. I was spacin' out." He apologized sheepishly. Joey cleared his throat "What did you say?" He asked curiously, having not heard what the other man said. The man sighed "I am Yami Muto and I'm your server. Are you ready to order?" He repeated patiently. Joey nodded "I'll have a burger with the works and fries with a chocolate shake." He ordered promptly. Yami nodded "Coming right up." He chirped. Fifteen minutes later, Yami came with a plate full of food and set it in front of Joey "Here you go, Burger with the works, fries along with a shake." He rattled off. Joey thankfully nodded "Thanks. Hey, do you want to sit and hang out?" He wondered hopefully. Yami looked at Joey, shocked at his forwardness. "Sure, my break is in a few minutes." He agreed before he walked away.

A few minutes later, Yami sat at the other side of the booth and they started talking. Joey didn't know what he saw, a daydream or some kind of vision but he knew that he didn't want that future to slip through his fingers.
