Marinette sat on one of her balcony chairs, slowly sipping her hot chocolate. Around this time every night, Cat Noir came to say goodnight. Marinette had been shy at first, but she loved it when Cat was here.
"Good evening, Princess!" Marinette raised her head, startled. Cat sat there on her balcony railing, eyes glowing a soft green in the darkness, while moonlight played with his buttercup hair. "Cat, you startled me! I didn't even here you coming!"
"Ah, that's why we cats love the night so much, for we prowl in the shadows, looking for a snack and a cozy place to nap!" Marinette giggled, giving him a hug. "And my balcony is just the spot?" "Well, you do make tasty snacks!"
"Speaking of snacks, I'll make you some hot chocolate." Marinette climbed back down into her room. She was about to head downstairs to the kitchen, when she saw Cat staring at her patchwork quilt.
"What's this? It looks special," Cat asked. Marinette walked over to him, unfurling the blanket. "My parents made this quilt for me," she told him. "Each square is a different memory. This one is especially special, because its from all the pajamas I wore as a kid. I love this one, look at all the little ladybugs!"
Marinette had been delighted to help her parents with the quilt. They always sewed it at night, and Papa and Mama promised that soon, there would be a cozy quilt of memories. "I'd love to have a quilt like this," Cat said, stroking the blanket softly. "I don't remember Mother well, but she told the best stories." "If you have any old pajamas, I'd be happy to make one for you." Cat looked at her. "You'd do that? For me?" "Of course. Everyone needs a Patchwork Quilt of Memories. But in the meantime, how about you this one? I'll be back with the hot chocolate and you can head outside."
Two minutes later, Cat sat wrapped in his cozy blanket. Marinette followed soon after, carrying their warm drinks. But Cat wanted a different kind of warmth, and he beckoned Marinette over.
Curling up in the blanket, they watched the moon rise over Paris. It was a good night for patchwork quilts and memories, and neither Cat or Marinette would ever forget this night.
