Just something short I wrote because my birthday was a few days ago...Honestly I am not for birthday stories much but I had a particularly good birthday this year so I felt inspired. I am going to make the last year in my twenties count. On with the disclaimers.

When Luka Couffaine turned six, he was slightly more mature than the other kids. He helped with a few more chores around the house and wasn't ignorant of his mother's struggles. But also, he remembered when all of Paris threw the most obnoxious parties ever for the son of the wealthy Agreste family and the Graham De Vanily family, and Luka understood just how poor his family was.

He was happy the houseboat was decorated with balloons and streamers. Still, it was also disheartening to realize why his neighbors in the city of Paris looked down upon him and his family. And he wondered if his mother should save what little money they had on other matters.

But 4-year-old Juleka enjoyed bouncing balloons like they were volleyballs, and Luka couldn't pass up the fun either. The two children could play this game for hours. Rich kids did not know what they were missing.

And then Luka got the most delightful surprise in the world when his mother enthusiastically opened the door to the lower deck of the houseboat humming the Happy Birthday song, and Juleka screamed in happiness when their mother came home with a tray of cupcakes smothered in plenty of blue frosting.

"Mama!" Juleka cried as she ran over and tugged on her mother's jacket.

Ankara giggled as she held the tray over her head to ease her eager daughter. "Slow down, my little one; we must light a candle for your brother first!"

The young Luka blinked his aqua blue eyes as he humbly walked towards his mother with his hands behind his back.

"Mama, is that a birthday cake?" Luka asked seriously.

Ankara gave her growing boy a reassuring smile as she winked at him. "Yes it is Luka! And it was made special for ye. The baker at the Dupain-Cheng Bakery is an absolute genius!"

She trailed off as she walked into the kitchen area to grab plates and forks while Juleka followed her like a baby duck. But Luka was left in the sleeping area with a new feeling for himself.

"Don't be modest, my growing lad," Anarka assured him from the kitchen. "My amazing son deserves his own birthday cake; you are becoming so grown up…" She trailed off again as she got busy calming down her hyper daughter.

The 6-year-old boy still modestly looked away though. His mother didn't have to go through the trouble. Then again, he couldn't be happier and had difficulty comprehending that happiness.

"Stay still Juleka; I need to light this candle."

Luka turned as his mother killed the lights, and he heard a match being lit. His mother walked over with a blue frosting cupcake with a lit 6th birthday candle, and his sister eagerly tugged her jacket again, but his mother was slick enough not to let the cupcake fall. Luka grinned and ran over as his mother smiled at him and brought the cake closer.

"Make a wish, Luka."

Luka closed his eyes and thought deeply before blowing the candle out, and his sister joyfully wished him a happy birthday.

He still considered that one of his best birthdays ever. Luka was covered in blue frosting with his younger sister and mother, whom he loved dearly.

Luka didn't regret his unique family life after that. And many years later, Luka slept so soundly on his 20th birthday. The years have been so good to him, and he was looking forward to adult life. Luka smiled as he woke up when he heard Marinette shuffling while coming back into the bedroom.

"Happy birthday Luka!"

Marinette gasped as she realized that may have been too loud. She caught the teacup that fell off the tray and safely returned to the bed. Luka opened his beautiful aquamarine eyes and felt his heartstrings sing. Marinette always outdid herself with breakfast in bed, but the adorable giggle and silver serving lids told him this would be a special surprise.

"I made you something super special, my beloved muse," Marinette said as she placed the tray down.

Luka pondered for a moment. "Everything you make is wonderful, my melody but…" He cut off as he wrapped his arm around Marinette's waist and pulled her closer. Both of them looked each other in the eye before Luka placed a sweet kiss on Marinette's lips.

Marinette moaned in pleasure as Luka was already enjoying that kiss more than breakfast, but that sweet kiss eventually broke as Luka brushed his nose against hers. Marinette quickly went back to the tray to get ready to reveal the surprise under the serving trays. "I hope this isn't too much," Marinette said.

"You always outdo yourself Marinette. I love you so much," Luka said sweetly.

Marinette grinned as she removed the trays. "Ta-da!"

Luka's grin grew as he saw ice cream and cake for breakfast. Beautiful royal blue velvet cake with smooth cream cheese frosting, and the bowl next to the cake had vanilla ice cream with blueberries, strawberries, granola, and chocolate chips topped with whipped cream.

Luka was all for birthday cake and ice cream for breakfast, and he was ready to tuck in for the best sugar high he would have in ages, but before that, he pulled Marinette closer and showered her cheek with multiple kisses.

Others would say Marinette was going overboard by giving him a cake and ice cream in the morning for his birthday, but Luka would clap back by saying, "I love this woman so much!" The blue velvet cake was beautifully regal and moist, and he could definitely eat another slice. And vanilla ice cream with blueberries and strawberries was one of his favorite things ever. It was something undeniable that belonged together, just like him and Marinette: the melody and the muse.

The sugar rush was just the beginning of the fun as later in the day, Marinette excitedly held Luka's hand as they walked through the summer music festival with a picnic basket. They were finding the perfect spot for when their friends showed up for the celebration.

This was shaping up to be the best birthday ever, but Luka remembered another birthday memory that was a bit more bittersweet. He remembered when his mother got him a teddy bear holding a little guitar as a present. A friend the young Luka could play the guitar with whenever the other kids bullied him or his sister. One day the little boy was careless, and the little bear fell overboard, and his mother caught him before he jumped ship to try to get the bear.

But the sound of Marinette's voice caused his smile to return as she unloaded all the sandwiches inside the picnic basket for everyone to eat. He was super eager to eat all of Marinette's delicious treats, but Marinette stopped as she placed a sandwich in front of him.

"Just a moment," Marinette said.

"Hmm? What is it?" Luka said.

Marinette grinned as she revealed a present, and Luka chuckled before expressing his gratitude.

"It's not time for me to open gifts right now," Luka said.

Marinette blushed. "Hmm, I really want you to open this right now."

Luka couldn't possibly say no to that. He smiled as he accepted her gift and tore the blue wrapping paper. And what was inside made him feel like an 8-year-old boy again.

The teddy bear holding an adorable tiny ebony black guitar had so many intricate details in the blue stitches; it was almost like the teddy bear he had lost all those years ago. Luka held the teddy bear gently in his hands, wondering if this was just a dream, but when he looked up to see Marinette giggling, he knew he was right about Marinette being the most extraordinary girl in the world.

"Marinette…"

Marinette smiled as she twirled a lock of her midnight blue hair with her finger. "I talked to your mother about what would be the perfect gift for you."

Luka smiled down at the adorable guitar-playing teddy bear as tears formed in his eyes, but Marinette scooted closer and smiled up at him.

"Happy birthday Luka. I hope you have many happy birthdays to come!"

Happy tears escaped from Luka's eyes, but Marinette was there to wipe them away. Both were about to kiss while holding the teddy bear between them, but Tom and Anarka enthusiastically cut in with plenty of blue frosting cupcakes for everyone at the party.

Not that Marinette and Luka weren't happy eating delicious cupcakes made by the famous Dupain-Cheng bakery and smiling while being covered in blue frosting.

Luka knew he would always have happy birthdays with everyone he loved.

In the quiet evening, Luka took a moment for alone time in his office. Marinette was busy deciding what to make for dinner, but she wanted to ask Luka what he might want vaguely and if she should make some tea. The door to his office was slightly open, and Marinette lightly knocked.

"Luka…..Luka!" Marinette whispered.

When she opened the door, the office lighting was dimmed, and Marinette walked in quietly as she pulled the chord of one of the lamps.

Luka slept sitting up on the couch with the teddy bear safe in his lap. Little did Marinette know he stirred and smiled when he heard her whispering his name.

Marinette smiled warmly as she quietly sat down next to him. She gently laced her hand with his. Marinette sat the teddy bear up and looked up at Luka before resting her head on his shoulder and falling asleep.
