Chapter two: Comfort Food

"Where do you think Ron went off to?" Harry's question was one that him and Hermione had both been pondering since their friend had suddenly stood up and said he'd be back in a bit.

"Not sure," Hermione responded vaguely, staring intently at her potions paper that she'd been working on since before dinnertime, "Not really like him to just up and leave like that, is it?"

"Not really, but I'm sure he had a reason. Hey, I've got to go to my lesson with Dumbledore, you should take a break and eat something, you skipped dinner working on that."

"I'll eat when I'm done, Harry, some of us have to actually WORK on our paper rather than cheating with some stupid book!" Hermione snapped, clearly irritated. The look Harry gave her after her stomach grumbled loudly only served to worsen her mood.

"Well, you have fun with that, but you really should think about eating something," Harry said as he stood up, "See you tomorrow."

Ron left the kitchens with the large basket in his hands, feeling nervous. He'd never done something like this for her before, what if she snapped at him? What if he'd picked the wrong thing? What she'd already went to get something and he just looked stupid?

He shook the thoughts from his head, he knew her better than that, he'd find her sitting in an armchair, staring at that paper like she had been when he'd left, with the same cute focused frown on her face, and now Harry wouldn't even be there to pester her to take a break. Ron reached the top of the last flight of stairs before reaching Gforoffindor tower, walked down a few hallways, and entered the common room after saying the password to the Fat Lady.

Upon entering, he paused when he saw her. She was exactly where he knew she'd be, staring at that paper trying to stay focused. He watched the way her eyes would drift off into space before she'd shake herself and focus on the paper once more. He watched how she rubbed her eyes and fidgetted in the chair, how she buried her face in her hands and made a noise of frustration. Ron thought he'd never seen a more beautiful sight.

He pulled himself out of his revery and walked over to her.

"Hermione, I have something for you."

Hermione didn't look up. "Later, Ron, can't you tell I'm working on this essay that YOU haven't even started?"

Ron winced, he'd been putting off that essay for an entire week. "Look, Hermione, I'll start my essay right now if you just look at what I brought you," he said, setting the basket next to her chair.

"Fine." She looked up, and when she saw the basket, filled with a large fish and chips dinner, her jaw dropped, and she stared at him for a full ten seconds.

"I'm sorry if it isn't what you wanted, I didn't know what to get, I thought the bish and chips would be relaxing and I got you the strawberries and the tea for if you need something when you're working later, but it's fine if you don't want..." Ro was interupted by Hermione throwing herself into his arms and hugging him tightly.

"Has anyone ever told you that you are the sweetest person in the world?" Hermione asked as she buried her face in his chest.

Ron flushed as he retured the hug and rubbed her back awkwardly. "It's not that big of a deal, Mione, I just noticed you skipped dinner and I knew you needed something."

Hermione hugged him even tighter. "Thank you so much, Ron, you're a godsend."

Ron flushed even more, but as he continued to hug her, he thought that there's nowhere else he'd rather be.
