The day started where we open to around the Rock Farm owned by the Pie Family. Igneous Rock and Cloudy Quartz were getting up for another day. But as they entered the room it was dark, but the lights flashed on.
"SURPRISE!" Pinkie Pie shouted as party streamers and balloons fell around her parents. "Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad!" She steps aside to allow herself and her siblings to present the decorated room, plus wrapped up gifts: which were shape or more precisely in the form of rocks.
"Are these…?" Igneous Rock spoke forth a bit baffled.
"For us?" Cloudy Quartz asked from showing a little smile.
"Well, as the oldest I had to put together things with everypony's help." Limestone issued on being one to be the in charge type.
"Hmm-hmm…" Marble Pie lightly replies with few words but had a smile of assurance.
"It's a special day, even Boulder is eager for it." Maud Pie blankly stated and showed her rock; which had a party hat on.
"And because it's a big day! I invited two friends of mine to make this memorable!" Pinkie Pie steps aside to allow those coming into the room: Pinkamena and Rainbow Dash.
"Man, this takes me back?" Pinkamena smiled from recalling such memories. "Congrats Mr. and Mrs. Pie."
"Pinkie Pie said it's your 40th Anniversary, and wanted me to document the stuff on my channel about rock farmers daily life. Hope you don't mind?" Rainbow Dash stated on making a channel to show her viewers.
"Okay, you both ready. Cause we got some great fun-fun stuff!"
"Ready to go Pinkie, in 3…2…1…ACTION…" Rainbow Dash started to say and had the video camera rolling…
Later…
"Noooow!?" Rainbow Dash's excitement was tone down while dropping the video camera a bit. "Pinkie, what's with this wall?" She looked at the pink pony with a puzzled and confused face.
"Silly, that's not just ANY wall, it's…" Pinkie Pie smiled to pat her friend's back. "THE WALL!" She announced really loudly to the skies.
The scene displays what looks like a wall structure going about 50 meters in height from bottom to top, and were incredibly strong in substance. Now around the center was a pegboard, similar to a pachinko game or bean machine. The group was on the top of the structure, and saw the bottom of the board divided into 15 slots marked with various written activities. There were seven numbered drop zones on the top edge of the board.
"Basically it's a special time where we decide what special activities we can do until it's finished. After completing one, we go onto the next. And we keep going until the day is over." Pinkie Pie explains the function of what they will be doing to decide their special task of the day.
"So you decide what to do by chance? Isn't this a little…too much?" Rainbow Dash raised an eyebrow, finding this a little random.
"Oh Dashie, this has been part of the Rock Farmer tradition for years! Give a chance, you might like it." Pinkie Pie pat the back of her friend to not sweat the details. "Okay Pa! Let it go!"
Igneous Rock took the chance to drop the stone ball into the slots. After watching the different encounters of where it would roll off to, it lands on something. And then it revealed the name of the activity.
"Ohhhh, looks like our first activity is STONE SKIPPING!" Pinkie Pie smiled to happily announce the event.
1ST EVENT - Stone Skipping
The Pie Family and the guest were by a dry rocky flatland, and everyone was skipping some flat stones. Rainbow Dash was recording this for the latest story on the Rock Farmers' activity special, but this…seem very odd.
"Um, correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't stone skipping involve…water?" Rainbow Dash questioned the illogical issue here.
"Hah, that's a good one!" Limestone Pie laughs off about those that don't know their customs. "If we skip rocks in water, they sink. And we can't get them if they're at the bottom of a lake or river?" She explains how doing it this way is much better for retrieval.
"Plus it helps to give Boulder and his friends their daily exercise." Maud Pie stated as she skipped rocks with such incredible strength.
"Exercise? But they're rocks?" Rainbow Dash raised an eyebrow, puzzled again by the comment.
"Yeah! But still if they sat around lazily, they have nothing to do. So the point is to help make sure every rock gets it's daily skips and in due so keeps us well fit and healthy to move more." Igneous Rock explains the basic matter of helping themselves and the rocks stay fit.
"So um, how many of them are you gonna be skipping?" Rainbow Dash asked from feeling a bit tired.
"Oh don't worry dear, this won't take long." Cloudy Quartz smiled to assure this won't be that much longer. "Just another 1000 more stones, and then we'll collect them when we're done." When Rainbow Dash heard that, her gaping mouth almost hit the ground.
"Wow, it's been years since I did this. I can't wait for the next game!" Pinkamena grins from feeling inspired to play and collect all the rocks.
"Heh, yeah…me neither?" Rainbow Dash laughs off lightly, uncertain if this is her idea of fun.
Later back at the Wall, Cloudy Quartz was the next to drop a stone ball down. And after much tricky pathway and route changes, it landed to reveal the next event.
"Guess what everypony, the next activity is ROCK PAINTING!" Pinkie Pie shouted with joy on what they get to do next.
2ND EVENT – Rock Painting
The scene opens to where on the farm, the Pie family has a bunch of paint out. And everyone was painting the little rocks with different colors, styles, features, you name it.
"So you're painting rocks? Right?" Rainbow Dash asked from sorta getting the idea of this activity.
"Hmmm-Humph!" Marble Pie lightly nods with a smile to agree.
"Well, that could sorta be a fun activity?" Rainbow Dash shrug off to admit this game had value.
"Oh it is, not many folks know…but when rocks are given a wonderful color, they bring forth a wondrous appearance. Folks just love finding something unique to brighten the day." Cloudy Quartz smiled a bit to admit the truth of painting rocks and spread the joy around.
"Well I guess I can make a cool symbol of my Cutie Mark and…" Rainbow Dash grins from picking a rock and prepares to paint…
"Woah-woah, you can't just paint anything on the rocks." Limestone stops the mare from ruining things.
"Why not?" Rainbow Dash raised an eyebrow, puzzled by that statement.
"Duh Dashie, you gotta know what the rock wants to be before you paint it. Otherwise it might not fit them." Pinkie Pie gently pats her friend's backside to explain the reason, as rocky as it sounds.
"Pinkie, they're rocks? What's the difference?" Rainbow Dash points out that such an issue shouldn't matter.
"Well for starters, they could go bad from such mistreatment. And then leave to join a shady rock gang." Maud Pie blankly stated on what would happen. "Just ask Boulder's cousin Rock-Shell. She and the others there are into their Punk Rock stage." She then points to a group of rocks painted with a punk rock style.
"Teenage Rebellion, guess you gotta let them work it out of their system." Pinkamena shrug off the shoulders to let such things go through a phase.
"Ugh…I'll take your word for it?" Rainbow Dash slowly stated from deciding to not argue; especially when noticing punk rocks mysteriously surrounding her.
Now we return back to the Wall where Marble Pie was dropping a stone ball. And after a few moments, it landed on the next event for the family.
"Oh-boy, Oh boy! This one is none other then…ROCK N ROLL!" Pinkie Pie cheered from loving what this was.
3RD EVENT – Rock N' Roll
"Okay, now THIS I'm looking forward too." Rainbow Dash smiled from getting the camera ready when they arrived. "So ugh, do you guys have anything to listen to or any instruments?" The mare noticed that the group was split off over a canyon crevice area.
"Hmmm-hmm…" Marble Pie shook her head to signal they aren't doing it that way.
"But the event is about Rock n' Roll, right?" Rainbow Dash raised an eyebrow, confused by what's going on.
"Ohohohoh, I think we forget to mention the slight difference of Rock Farmers' term use of Rock N' Roll." Pinkamena laughs off a little at the confused mare. "It's not a musical theme, it's a game."
"A game…of what?" Rainbow Dash still looked very confused here.
"Well this entire crevice is shaped like a U, right?" Pinkamena pointed out where they are.
"Yeah…?" Rainbow Dash slowly replied.
"And you see the rocks here?" Pinkamena points to the round medium boulders the size of an average pony.
"I do?" Rainbow Dash nods in agreement, yet had no idea what's going on.
"Then the game is simple, each side has to push the rock as hard as they can down to reach the other side." Pinkamena points to explain the steps of this unique game. "But if one pony doesn't stop it from passing their line and drops to their field, it's the other teams win."
"Um, I'm not sure how this relates to…" Rainbow Dash felt like there's nowhere this relates being called Rock n' Roll by such a method.
"Alright! GAME ON!" Pinkie Pie called out to start the event.
"Wait, what?" Rainbow Dash yelped from not being mentally prepare here.
That's when Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Pinkamena and Marble Pie wer on one side facing the rest of the Pie Family. The boulders were pushed and rolls down the crescent hill to go up to the otherside. And everyone was keeping the number of boulders from passing the line. That is until Maud got a bunch rolled to her spot, then used her straight to shot them pass Rainbow's spot.
"Oh boy…?" Rainbow Dash yelps from seeing several medium boulders dropping near her. "AHHHHH!?/CRASH!" The mare screamed to dodge out of the way of the crashing impact.
"Nice push Maud!" Pinkie Pie waved out to praise such an excellent win.
"I'm so happy, I can barely contain myself." Maud Pie blankly stated her joy, which didn't seem like much.
"Yeah, I can see that?" Rainbow Dash lightly admits while wiping sweat off the forehead.
"Everyone knows the rules, first team to get 10 points win. Let's go again!" Limestone instructs the family they keep playing the rounds.
"Uh-oh…?" Rainbow Dash yelps from fearing that all those rocks count as one point; imagine dodging them again nine more times.
Much later on…
"Ugh…" Rainbow Dash was seen looking like she survived a catastrophic rockslide.
"Easy does it Dashie, remember….No Pain, No Gain!" Pinkamena smiled to brighten the mare's spirit.
"I rather not GAIN the PAIN!?" Rainbow Dash remarked on skipping such painful events.
Now the next pony was Maud who drop the stone ball down the Wall. And when it reach it's own mark after much chance turn encounters, revealed the event pick.
"Oh goddy! You'll like this Rainbow Dash, you thought the last one was about music. But now it's for real, it's…GRANITE MELODY!" Pinkie Pie happily announced they'll get to do some singing.
4TH EVENT – GRANITE MELODY
"I don't know if I wanna ask or not, but…what's this about?" Rainbow Dash asked from when everyone was lined up at the start of the Wall.
"Oh simple, we sing a song to the WALL!" Pinkie Pie smiled to happily state their task.
"Kay? Why?" Rainbow Dash asked about this weird action.
"Why not, it's tradition." Limestone Pie remarked the mare for not following tradition they do.
"So instead of to an audience, you sing to a wall…made of rocks?" Rainbow Dash raised an eyebrow, ever more confused.
"Yes, we parade from start to finish while singing a special song." Pinkie Pie stated on how they do things.
"Now girls, I hope you haven't forgotten the melody I taught you." Cloudy Quartz instructs her children to sing like the rest.
"Hmm-Hmph!" Marble Pie smiled to reply.
"We're ready when you are." Maud Pie announced with eagerness; though not really, but who can tell.
"Then let us begin, ready….ger-hum…" Igneous Rock cleared his throat as the Pie Family get ready.
Now Rainbow Dash partakes in the marching parade, and the Pie Family began to sing. But what was suppose to be singing, turn out to be something that sounds completely different. Imagine someone who's the worse singer of all times, combined with not having a lesson in their life, and with the most irritating squirms and high-pitch tones that make listening to scratching chalkboards sound pleasant. So yeah, they were singing a melody so bad that no normal person could handle it.
"GEeerrrrigh!? What is that horrible sound!?" Rainbow Dash clapped her ears to block the noise of such terrible singing.
"Awe, I haven't heard that lullaby in years. It's what my parents sang me to sleep." Pinkamena signs from remembering the days when being a normal Pinkie Pie and hearing this lullaby.
"I wouldn't call that a lullaby, it sounds like what happens when somebody drops bagpipes into a wood chipper?" Rainbow Dash exclaimed on how she describes this racket.
"Wow, that's pretty amazing to describe it perfectly Dashie." Pinkie Pie looked to her friend at making a great guess.
"Ugghhh, this might be the worse parade ever…?" Rainbow Dash cringed her teeth, baring the painful sounds of terrible singing. "Maybe I can try to give this parade a cool upbeat. For my ears sakes?" She issued from trying to find a solution, and quick…
That's when Rainbow Dash decided to pull out her headphones to at least protect her hearing from the horrible singing. She set one of the musical songs on her laptop on to play. But then when the Pie family stopped, Rainbow Dash bumped into them which made her drop the headphones and yank the plug from the lab top…and played a loud rocking music number because the volume was set too high.
"Rainbow Dash!? What are you doing?" Limestone Pie shouted at the mare for this unexpected act.
"What, sorry, I was gonna play some music to sing along to your…urgh, melody? And well….this happen?" Rainbow Dash sheepishly apologize for the clumsy act and exposing she was gonna hear outside music.
"No! It's tradition that the melody not be change." Igneous Rock protest about allowing such music to be heard here.
"What's wrong with change, Pinkie Pie changed your lives for the better, right?" Rainbow Dash raised an eyebrow to question about accepting change.
"Yes, but this is important. The melody is said to keep everyone safe when they sleep." Igneous Rock issued to explain his reasons.
"I'm surprised that any child could sleep with that melody." Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes from knowing how terrible the melody was.
"It's not just our children, but for THEM as well." Cloudy Quartz stated with concern on what they do.
"Them who?" Rainbow Dash raised an eyebrow, uncertain what this discussion was leading to.
Suddenly, there were cracks appearing on the Wall, and broke completely apart. And then stood towering over the group, were creatures not seen much. Each was a colossal humanoid giant over ten times a pony's size, whose body is composed entirely of orange boulders held together by an unseen force. It might be magical Rune markings. Have a head with blue-glowing eyes and a face resembling a skull, round shoulders and upper arms with thick four-fingered forearms, a torso consisting of a round chest with spikes on the back and two segments for the lower torso, and thick legs with sharp knees and two-toed feet. There's blue and purple-glowing veins across the torso and similarly colored joint-surfaces.
"GRAUUARRRHHH!" The Rock Monsters roared as they began to move forward upon awakening.
"ROCK MONSTERS!?" Rainbow Dash screamed at the top of her lung.
The ponies immediately fled the scene when an untold number of hidden rock giants began to stomp across the rock farm landscape. After having escape such close calls, everyone tries to understand what's going on. As well as what sort of threat has just appeared.
"Somebody wanna explain, why there were Rock Monsters inside that wall?" Rainbow Dash asked for any answers to what just happened.
"Beats me, I never knew we had a sleeping audience?" Pinkie Pie shrug off her shoulders to admit.
"Me neither, this never happen from my old world?" Pinkamena shook her head from not knowing either.
"Dear, you should tell them. The situation is dire if they are free." Cloudy Quartz spoke to her husband on the danger that was released.
"What do you mean? You know those Rock Monsters?" Rainbow Dash looked to the rock farmers that knew something.
"They're called Granifer Giganticus. But Rock Monsters will be fine." Igneous Rocks mention the true name of those rock things. "According to my family history, they are colossal size rock beings who could trample cities and societies. Crush everything of our ecosystem. In short, they would literally flatten our world. It was fearfully called – The Rumbling." The pony explained the horrors of such rocky beings that endanger all lives.
"The…Rumbling?" Rainbow Dash muttered from not liking the sound of that.
"Great world Rainbow Dash, you just unleashed the end of the world!?" Limestone remarked in fury at who caused this.
"Ah, well….how did they get stop the first time?" Rainbow Dash tried to find a solution to the mess.
"My ancestor discovered that a unique melody could put them to sleep. When they were asleep, they would become new rock structures of canyons, gorges and mountains. And so long as they slept, the world would be safe." Igenous Rock explains how the best method to win was to sing a melody that calm such beast to sleep.
"So all we gotta do, is get them to sleep before they reach a populated area." Pinkie Pie asked her father on how they can save the day.
"But with those many Rock Monsters up and running, we need a crowd to sing the Granite Melody. It takes years to get the verbal pronouncements right." Cloudy Quartz pointed out the problem that involves singing in harmony: and how they sing it, it's not so easy.
"Why not record our singing and send a signal through speakers to get them all at once." Maud blankly asked if they can try a different solution.
"That's a great idea Maud!" Pinkie Pie smiled to hug her sister happily. "We can use Rainbow's computer lab top to record our singing and somebody can setup speakers. That should allow that many Rock Monsters to hear."
"I'll head off in their path, get a backup lab top at home and you guys just focus on your singing for me to receive on the other end." Rainbow Dash stated on what she can do during the meantime.
"Alright, let's do this! And a one and a two, and a…" Pinkamena turns to the Pie Family as Rainbow Dash flies ahead.
Carterlot City
30 MINUTES AFTER RAINBOW'S ARRIVAL
The town's folks were quickly setting up the speakers that DJ Pon-3 was giving out and pointed where each should be. After Rainbow Dash inform everyone of the imposing danger
"Okay everypony, we gotta get these Speakers up FAST!" Rainbow Dash instructs everyone as she quickly makes final preparations and zips around. "Thanks for the loan DJ Pon-3!" DJ Pon-3 gave a smile when Rainbow Dash commented her.
Then loud stomps were heard that everyone turns and they nearly looked shocked and afraid. A colossal rock monster army were on the move. They were stomping across the landscape, completely turning even the forest into pavement beneath their feet. If these guys came to Carterlot City, the town would cease to exist. Then having appeared on the scene, Pinkamena swings from rock monster with her Chain Blades before getting a major leap to land right next to Rainbow Dash.
"Pinkamena, is it ready." Rainbow Dash asked the mare a question.
"Yep, everyone finished. So I came to give you this." Pinkamena handed the mare a drive. "Sorry, there was too much interference to email you. But you just gotta hook your lab top up to this and we're good to go." Pinkamena proudly stated on being ready.
"I forgot to ask, how did you beat those Rock Monsters here anyhow?" Rainbow Dash asked from thinking the giants had a major head start.
"Simple, I ran like HECK!" Pinkamena simply pointed out her effort.
"You outran giants that are stomping all over?" Rainbow Dash raised an eyebrow, finding that very hard to swallow.
"THEY'RE HERE!?" One of the civilians shouted in fear.
That's when the giant rock monsters were closing in almost 100 feet away. But they be upon everyone in just a minute or two. Rainbow Dash hooked her lab top to the speaker system, and was about to play the recording of the Granite Melody…But the mare was hesitating.
"What are you waiting for Rainbow Dash, play it!?" Pinkamena looked at Rainbow with confusion.
"Are we certain there's no other way?" Rainbow Dash asked sheepishly with concern.
"You wanna survive being squashed?" Pinkamena issued on knowing they don't want their lives crushed under gigantic stone feet.
"I rather not give everyone permanent damage eardrums." Rainbow Dash muttered from not knowing which would be worse.
"Fine, I'll do it!" Pinkamena approached to prepare the play button before Rainbow Dash could stop her.
"EVERYONE COVER YOUR EARS!" Rainbow Dash yelled at the top of her lungs.
Now when Pinkamena press the play button, the Pie family's chorus was heard throughout the speakers. The volume was raised to it's max, the entire area vibrated from every word spoken in song. Oh, and let's not forget the important part: the side effects it had on the town's folk hearing such a horrible singing.
"It's Horrible!" A stallion cried out from hearing the terrible singing.
"What have we unleashed!?" A mare cried off from not bearing this.
"I rather face certain doom then hear this!?" An old stallion declared what he rather face then listen to this.
"You might get your wish!?" An old mare issued from looking at the edge of town.
The town's folk were so distracted by the pain in their ears, that they lack hearing the sounds of heavy crash noises. Just then the Rock Monsters action showed signs of them yawning. Then they began to slow down before slowly curling themselves into sleeping rock-like positions. Course they did so outside the entry into Carterlot City.
"Ohhh, sorry about this everybody?" Pinkie Pie was seen along with her family while witnessing the traffic
"How long must we endure this?" Rainbow Dash yelled out wishing to end hearing this terrible song.
"According to my ancestors words, it takes about a year for these Rock Monsters to fall completely asleep." Igneous Rock explained the functional behavior of these creatures.
"Well we can always turn off the music if it's bothering folks?" Limestone Pie made a sly smirk if the folks wanna deal with these rock beast when awake.
"No-no, that won't be necessary." Rainbow Dash held up her hooves to bear the terrible noise then deal with more damage to the town.
"Boy, if the Rock Monsters didn't cause a disturbance, we could have enjoyed another game for our parents' special anniversary." Pinkie Pie looked a little down that things ended this way.
"Hmm-Hmph…." Marble Pie lightly nods while having picked up a rock ball that was hers to roll down the Wall.
What Marble Pie did was place it near the side but he slipped and roll to the parents. Cracks form and from the rock came sparklingly diamond fragments.
"Wait, is that…?" Rainbow Dash yelps from never guessing such a priceless jewel appear at this time.
"Wow Marble, your rock ball ended up having something hidden inside?" Pinkie Pie smiled to hug her little sister for obtaining a treasure. "What a perfect gift for our parents anniversary!"
"Oh, it's lovely." Cloudly Quartz smiled as she and her husband each picked up a piece. "Thank you all."
"This will be a day none of us will ever forget." Igneous Rock smiled to give thanks for this treasure moment.
"Yeah, and some might just wanna?" Rainbow Dash issued from keeping her ears plugged cause of the terrible singing recording. "Maybe we can get Twilight to magically get these guys back where they belong?"
"Oh, Dashie's right. Looks where these guys are parked." Pinkie Pie issued to notice crowds having trouble getting into town. "This road is the delivery route for all the veggie products that come into town."
"Good golly, and if these rock monsters sleep for a 1000 years, how will anybody get things like Potato Salad and other such things?" Pinkamena gasped from thinking that's a horrible thing to deal with.
"Well I'll speed off to tell her what's going on, and this'll be all wrapped up." Rainbow Dash smiled from knowing there's no time to lose.
Later on however…
"When I said wrapped up, I didn't mean THIS?!" Rainbow Dash complained: she was dress as a construction worker and helping to cement the destroyed Wall with the rock monsters inside again.
"Sorry, but as the one who disturb our traditional melody, it's the least you can do." Limestone Pie stated when she and the family watch the speedy mare work.
"And on the bright side Dashie, this rock farm vid you made will get a tone of views." Pinkie Pie pops before Rainbow Dash to show the recording of the anniversary event.
"Yeah, I wonder…" Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes, knowing folks will pay attention to the exciting or funny parts.
"Yep, and just so we are all cleared, we want the reviews to be top notch." Pinkamena pops over to tell Rainbow Dash on what they prefer to have on their review.
"You know that's not likely to…" Rainbow Dash was about to argue about the illogical matter about reviews given when…
"And if anyone does to leave a negative comment or even criticism, or even point out problems when this whole thing is about having fun, family times, and most importantly celebrating anniversaries, then they better beware!" Pinkamena frowns firmly while giving her statement for anyone to heed her warning. "And that goes DOUBLE for any of you folks watching and reading this chapter! Cause the moment you do, I PINKIE PROMISE YOU WILL REGRET!" She turns to break the 4th Wall on what she will do even outside the realm of reality.
"Ugh, who are you talking to?" Rainbow Dash raised an eyebrow, puzzled by this random act.
"Oh it's just a thing I saw Deadpool from Marvel series do, tell them to pay him tribute and that if they sass him, then they be sorry or something like that." Pinkamena shrug off to admit how he came across such things.
"Wow, maybe I should try that a few times to keep folks that bring the fun down when they point out too many mistakes when the point is just having an enjoyable time?" Pinkie Pie rubs her chin from having heard this to think that through. "So to all those secretly viewing my parents special day, if you bring the fun down…" She grabbed the screen and began to shake it. "I'LL HURT PARTY CRASHERS!" She spoke with a very scary and menacing red eye expression. "Now let's all have a fun time!" Pinkie Pie went back to normal to happily give a suggestion.
We see the pink ponies happily running off to join the Pie Family celebrating Igneous Rock and Cloudy Quartz with a surprise cake; with rock ornaments. Course Rainbow Dash was trying to absorb what happened while still working to repair the damages.
"Something tells me that it's best to make a note of no negative comments or reviews when dealing with Pinkie Pie and her family that lives on a rock farm on my email profile site." Rainbow Dash admits from realizing what may happen to the unfortunate soul. "But who be that senselessly foolish to even do that, that's like they're begging to get on somebody's nerves." The mare was not wrong about that fact which is a true matter. "Ehhh, maybe I better block anyone I think would do that, last thing in the world they wanna face is not one, but possibly TWO upset Pinkies carrying out punishment that will lead them to…" As the mare was saying this, she reached for her lab top to type in some program and the screen goes dark with these words…
