Yo! It's been a while fr but here I am with another story. I don't know, I've been really in the mood to carry on the story with Keigo and Fuyumi as a married couple and parents and I have all these ideas, so I'm probs gonna end up writing a few more stories for this adorable family. So this fic can be read stand alone but in a way it is connected to my previous stories 'Apricity' and 'Toya and His Nieces'. Anyways enjoy the story.

A Talk About Your Wings
Keigo knew this day would inevitably come. When he and Fuyumi decided to start a family together, he knew there was a chance that his quirk could be passed on. But as much as he saw it coming, there was nothing like actually seeing it for himself.
It was one thing for their four-year old daughters to have parts of him appearance wise, like how Harumi had his hair colour, and Reika had his eyes, and both of them had the same black triangular marks around their eyes, but to see their wings growing as they grew up made him feel something else entirely. Reika had his wings: those signature vibrant, bright red wings, everything about them was the same as his except the size, obviously. She looked so adorable with her tiny red wings, he could hardly remember his ever being so small. Harumi too had growing wings but hers were remarkably different than his and Reika's. Beautiful, angelic white wings decorated the back of his second born daughter.
For one thing, seeing his girls with their wings made Keigo think of his mother. Neither of his parents had had a very positive view of his quirk, and of him being around in the first place, but it was his mother's words that had stuck with him. The disdain present in her voice when she spoke about his wings. He couldn't help wondering what she'd say if she saw his daughters with their wings.
Suddenly, he was glad that he'd never know the answer to that question. He focused his mind back on the present moment. He was currently on a family outing. It was a warm spring afternoon and the family of four were at the park. Keigo and Fuyumi were sitting comfortably on a picnic blanket in the shade, while Reika and Harumi were running around the playground, chasing and popping bubbles.
Each armed with a brightly coloured bubble wand, the girls were laughing and yelling in awe of the large bubbles they were creating then proceeding to pop. Keigo watched with pure delight in his eyes, seeing Fuyumi smiling as she watched their daughters.
He took a deep breath. This was his life now. He was happy, his family was happy and that was all that mattered. He put his arm around Fuyumi and she leaned against him.
Unfortunately for Keigo however, one of his biggest fears came true not too long after he'd began having these troubling thoughts.
It was a Saturday afternoon, Keigo was home with the girls while Fuyumi was out spending some much needed mother-daughter time with Rei. The two of them had made many plans to spend a day together but time always got away from Fuyumi.
The three of them had just finished lunch, Keigo put the away the washed dishes, Reika and Harumi were playing in their room. All seemed to be normal until he heard Harumi yelling then Reika as well. He immediately raced to their room with growing concern.
"Hey, hey, what's going on in here?" Keigo rushed into the girls' room, both of them were crying. His heart rate shot up.
Before he could ask what happened, Harumi ran out the room in tears to the guest room.
"Harumi!" he called after her but she didn't respond. He returned his attention to his daughter in front of him. Reika was also in tears but wouldn't look up to meet his eyes. She was looking at the floor, her small hands tightly holding on her skirt.
"Reika, what happened?" he asked gently but she continued to cry in silence, sniffing every few seconds. Keigo let out a concerned sigh and sat on the floor so he could be at eye level with her. "Reika..." he gently raised her chin so she'd look at him, her bottom lip quivered and tears were still spilling from her eyes. Even her small red wings were slightly open, covering her, although not by much since they were still quite small.
Keigo wiped away her tears. "Sweetheart, I can't help if you don't tell me what's wrong."
"I didn't m-mean it, daddy." Reika stuttered and wiped away the rest of her tears. "Me and Harumi were playing then I showed her I can use my wings. I can get off the ground a little bit. I was excited to show her but then she got angry and said she wanted wings like yours too. Then she said if she had my wings she would be better than me. That hurt my feelings and I got angry too and I said her wings were ugly. Then she started crying and I did, then she ran out." she started crying again and ran into his arms. Keigo held her comfortingly and rubbed her back.
This was their first serious fight as siblings. He and Fuyumi were worried that something like this might happen when their quirks manifested and developed. It wasn't a guarantee that siblings would inherit the same quirk from their parents, everything was up to chance. There was a chance each child would inherit one from each parent, or the quirks combine to create something new, or all the children getting the same quirk. There was no sure fire way to know how things would turn out.
Natsuo and Fuyumi had both gotten their mother's quirk, meanwhile Shōto got a combination and Tōya had only manifested his mother's quirk during his adulthood because of his near death experience. The rest of his life prior to that, he'd lived only having his father's quirk.
Now Keigo was dealing with his daughters having inherited his and Fuyumi's quirks differently. Reika had his Fierce Wings which meant she'd have the same abilities he does when she learned how to use them. Harumi's quirk was a mixture of Fuyumi's Frost and his Fierce Wings, called Gelid Wings. Apart from them being all white, they looked similar to his and Reika's wings but they were softer and cold to the touch. She would be able to fly with them and detaching her feathers was also an ability she possessed. The extra part was that the feathers she could detach and control, froze whatever they landed on.
At first, both of them were excited to have wings, but now that their differences were beginning to show more pronouncedly, disagreements were sure to follow.
"Daddy?" Reika had calmed down and looked up, her golden eyes matching his own. "Does Harumi hate me?" she asked, the hurt in her voice clear.
"No, I don't think she does. I think she's just upset like you are now." he ruffled her white hair. "Reika, being angry isn't wrong, and no one likes getting hurt but, you also should be careful not to go too far. When people are angry they can say and do things they don't mean and hurt others. You didn't mean what you said to your sister, right?" his hands rested on her shoulders.
Reika shook her head no.
"And it's not nice feeling this way, right?" once again his daughter shook her head.
"Okay, so you understand you both need to say sorry to each other." Reika's bottom lip stuck out but she nodded in agreement. "Alright," he picked her up and headed to the living room, and put her on the couch before going to kitchen to get a box juice for her. "I'm going to talk to your sister, okay?" he kissed her forehead and headed to the guest room.
Whew. That was half the job done. Now for Harumi. He had an idea of what was really at the root of her hurt, but he wouldn't know until he asked her himself. And part of him was worried to find out.
He knocked on the door and walked in. "Harumi..." he looked around the room but saw no sign of her. He heard sniffing coming from under the bed. Of course she'd hidden there, it was her favourite place to hide whenever he played hide-and-seek with the girls. The reason for that was because she thought it was the perfect spot since she'd "never been found" whenever she hid there. What that really translated to was that Keigo chose not to find her there since it was her favourite place to hide. Realistically speaking, there was nowhere they could hide without him finding them. His abilities and wings that had caught countless criminals and stopped a myriad of crimes, were more than capable of finding two four-year old's hiding in their home.
Keigo laid on his side on the floor so he could see under the raised bed. And there she was, Harumi laying on her side, hugging her knees to her chest, crying.
"Harumi..." he said her name lightly and his daughter opened her eyes. Eyes that looked just like Fuyumi's met his own.
"Daddy…" she sniffed and stretched out.
"How you feeling?" he gave her a small smile.
"Bad..." she was tracing lines on the floor with her fingers as she answered.
"You wanna come out so I can give you a hug?"
After a few seconds, Harumi crawled out from under the bed and sat next to her father. Keigo put his arm around her and held her against him. They were quiet for a moment, Keigo allowing her to calm down until she was comfortable enough to speak. When she moved to sit in his lap and looked up at him, he knew she was ready.
"So," he began, "You and your sister were arguing about your wings?"
"Yeah… I started it, I'm sorry." her voice was low, still full of sadness and probably regret as well. Keigo was impressed that she'd owned up to starting the argument, but this situation was far from resolved.
"It's your sister you need to apologise to. How did this start? Why'd you say those things to your sister? Were you upset about something?" his voice was steady as he asked.
Harumi nodded before answering. "I don't like my wings." she looked to the side where the mirror was. She focused on the reflection of herself and her father and the subject of her pain, her wings.
"You don't like them? Why not?" he brushed through her wings, her feathers were cool to the touch.
"Cuz they're not like yours and Reika's. Why are only mine white? Reika can even fly a bit but mine feel heavy so I can't. When she used her wings, I felt angry and yelled and said mean things to Reika." she sniffed and wiped her nose.
"Haru, my girl, you and Reika may have the same birthday but not everything about you is the same. And that's not a bad thing." he smiled. "What's your favourite food?"
"Ice cream." she answered immediately, which made Keigo chuckle.
"Your sister's favourite is pancakes. They're not the same food but both are great. And about your wings, the more you practise, the easier it'll be to use them. Your body will know what to do when it's ready, okay? And your mom and I will be here to help you both along the way."
"And you and mommy will still love me the same? Even if my wings aren't like yours?" she met his eyes again, hers brimming with tears.
Oh Harumi…
Her words broke his heart, and to see her so worried about it, hurt more than he could explain. So that's what had been at the root of this. He thought it would be something like this. She thought her parents would feel differently about her because her wings were different. Harumi thought she'd be loved conditionally.
That had almost been his life at some point. If Keigo had stayed with his mother as he grew up, the only acknowledgement and affection he'd get would be if he'd fulfilled her requests and committed crimes to keep them afloat since his father's arrest.
"Why do you have those wings?"
His mother's voice rang loudly in his head.
No. He'd never say that to his girls, he'd never let either of them go through what he did or feel anything less than completely loved.
"Oh, my little bird," he hugged her tightly, holding back his own tears and he could hear her crying again. He never wanted her to doubt for even a single second how much he and Fuyumi loved her, loved both of their daughters. "There's nothing that could ever stop us from loving you. No matter what quirk, even if you had no quirk. Your mother and I will always, always love you so much. We loved you both before you were even born and we'll love you forever, you hear me?" he pulled back from the hug to look at Harumi and cupped her cheeks. "You know we love you, right?" Harumi nodded feeling a lot more reassured. "And I think your wings are beautiful, they're perfect for you."
"Really?" she smiled sweetly and spread her wings a little.
"Really, really." he smiled right back.
After one more hug he called Reika so the two of them could make up. Harumi apologised for saying she'd be better than Reika, and Reika apologised for calling Harumi's wings ugly. With the weight finally lifted off their shoulders, both of them cried as they hugged but were smiling not too long after.
Keigo was glad to see his daughters happy again. Growing up as an only child, he'd never had experiences like these, disagreeing and arguing with siblings but also making up and having fun together. At least he got to help his girls through a tough moment and watch over them as they grew together. He loved them so much.
"I think I deserve a hug, too." Keigo pointed at himself and the girls more than happily wrapped themselves around him. "I love you both so much." Keigo kissed them both atop the head and they responded by hugging him even tighter, which made him laugh. He couldn't be any more content if he tried. And after a happy ending like this, he thought they deserved a little treat.

Fuyumi returned home in the early evening. Keigo was in the kitchen finishing off dinner while the girls were engrossed in whatever fantasy game they were role playing. Reika had a small blanket over her shoulders as a makeshift cape, while Harumi waved her toy sparkly wand around as the two of them marched around the dinner table. Keigo smiled fondly as they played together like their earlier fight had never even happened. Oh, to be a child...
Fuyumi laughed at the adorable sight. She joined her husband in the kitchen and put her arms around his waist and hugged him from behind. Keigo turned in her arms. "Welcome home." he leaned in and kissed her and she put her arms around his neck. "How was your day?" he kept his arms around her.
"Amazing, and very much needed. I miss spending time with mom." Fuyumi smiled fondly thinking over the day spent with her mother. "So, what are they playing this time?" she asked as they both turned their attention back to the girls.
Keigo turned off the stove once he was sure the stew was ready, "From what I can tell, Reika is a superhero and Harumi is a fairy queen and they're both keeping guard over the "kingdom," which is really just the dinner table. Hence the marching." he chuckled at how silly it all sounded but as long as the girls were having fun.
"Sounds like they're ready for dinner." as was Fuyumi, the delicious smell made her even more hungry the second she'd walked in. "Anything happen today?" Fuyumi walked over to get the plates from the cupboards.
"Actually, yes." he let out a concerned sigh and took the plates to the table, the girls finally paused their game to greet Fuyumi. "But, that can wait until after we've eaten." he said more to himself and smiled seeing all his girls smiling together.

With the dishes done and the girls tucked into bed for the night, Fuyumi and Keigo were cuddling in bed. Fuyumi rested her head against Keigo's chest while his arms were over her.
"You took the girls out for ice cream, sounded like fun." she got more comfortable leaning on him.
"After the afternoon we had, it was more than necessary." he chuckled and leaned his head against hers, enjoying the feeling of her tracing patterns on his chest.
He explained the whole situation of finding the girls arguing, finding them both crying and his chat with Harumi. "She said she doesn't like her wings."
"Why's that?" Fuyumi looked up at him.
"She was hoping to get my quirk as well, like Reika did. She worried we'd love her less because of her quirk."
"Oh, my sweet girl, how'd you comfort her?" Fuyumi knew all too well what that felt like. Growing up, she and Natsuo were basically invisible to their father since neither of them had the quirk he'd wanted them to. Even though it was such a long time ago, sometimes it still hurt when she thought about it too much.
"I told her the truth, that we'll always love her no matter what. Quirk or no quirk, There's fire, ice and my wings in our family. Reika got my Fierce Wings and she couldn't be happier, Harumi would've been happy with either of our quirks. But she got a combination of both that no one else in the family has. She has these beautiful, white wings that I know are no doubt gonna become even more beautiful and powerful when she grows up, but she doesn't see that yet. All she's focused on now is how different she looks from her sister and her parents. And it worries her."
Fuyumi listened, absorbing everything he told her. "That must have been a scary moment for her." She paused before continuing, "And for you, too." her gaze was soft as she looked at him.
At first Keigo didn't say anything, he let her words wash over him as they stared at each other before he closed his eyes, and sighed. It wasn't surprising that she knew how he felt without him having to say anything. She was his wife after all.
You're your father's son.
Why were you even born?
Why do you have those wings?
His mother's words unsteadied him. He remembered every word and she'd said it. This was the last thing he wanted to be thinking about in regards to his girls.
"I thought I'd left all that behind but I guess not completely. For the longest time, I desperately wanted to avoid turning out like my father. But now that I'm a father myself, the words my mother said to me as child came rushing back as soon as Reika and Harumi's wings appeared." he sat up, thinking over everything. Fuyumi sat up as well and waited for him to carry on.
"Why do you have those wings?' she'd asked me. It was a rhetorical question, of course, but it still stung. It felt like a rejection of who I was, who I am. And now I'm worried Harumi will start asking herself the same question. I don't want to let her down, I don't want to let either of them down."
"As her parents, we'll help her as best we can, but ultimately the only one that can and should answer that question is Harumi herself. By the time she's older and mastered her wings, she'll know her answer. The same goes for Reika. And as for you, my lovely, Keigo," Fuyumi moved closer and straddled him, looping her arms around his neck. His hands rested on her hips as she leaned in and kissed him deeply, which he more than eagerly returned.
Fuyumi slowly pulled away from the kiss to look in his eyes, "You are an incredible father. Reika and Harumi know how much you love them, and they love you just as much." she brushed through his hair. "You've been flying and using your wings your whole life, you're a pro. There's no one more suited to teaching them than you, Takami-sensei." she teased that last part with a mischievous look in her eyes.
Keigo let out a light laugh before he held her closer and rested his head on her shoulder. "You know I couldn't do this without you." he pressed his lips to her shoulder.
For the next few minutes, they remained as they were. Comfortable under the covers, Fuyumi resting on Keigo and his arms around her, their breathing in sync. And for the millionth time, Keigo was overwhelmed with gratefulness that he had Fuyumi as his wife, that he could experience love so deeply.
After almost fifteen minutes had passed, Keigo thought Fuyumi had fallen asleep on top of him but that wasn't the case when he felt her move.
"Hmm..." she hummed then sat up.
"What is it?" he silently lamented the loss of her body heat.
"There's actually something I want to try before we go to bed." she opened the covers and got out of the bed and turned to Keigo expectantly. Realizing she wanted him to follow, he too got out of bed and followed her to their bathroom.
Fuyumi felt around for the light switch then turned it on. The tile and marble bathroom illuminated. Fuyumi took his hand and walked to the basin where the large mirror sat on the wall above the basin and counter. When they'd moved in together, all those years ago, Fuyumi insisted on getting the large mirror. When Keigo asked why, since a much smaller mirror would've been just as suitable, Fuyumi replied that she wanted a mirror that would show his wings fully. "When you're on your way out and I'm still getting ready in the bathroom, I love seeing your wings when you come kiss me goodbye." were her exact words. She had no idea that her answer had left his head spinning. He couldn't kiss her nearly fast enough when she'd said that.
And now here they were again, standing in front of the wide mirror that showed the full display of his wings.
Fuyumi stood beside him and took in the reflection showing his wings, the wings she loved so much. Once she was satisfied she went and sat on the counter close to the sink, her back facing the mirror. At first she looked over her shoulder to see her husband's reflection but then she turned to look at him in front of her. She was looking at Keigo.
Keigo wasn't really one to spend a lot time in front of the mirror, which made him realise that this was the first time in a while that he stood in front of the mirror and just looked at himself. No pretext of getting ready to leave the house, or checking on a healing injury, but really just taking in his appearance and his wings.
What caught his attention at that moment was how Fuyumi was seated. One step to his left had Fuyumi right in front of him, blocking his reflection but also making it look like she was the one with wings. He liked that view of her.
"You said you wanted to try something?" he started.
"More like ask you something." she closed her hands over the side of the counter, "Why do you have those wings?"
Keigo raised his brows in mild surprise, he wasn't expecting that question from her.
"After all these years, everything you've learned and what you've become, maybe you can finally answer that question for yourself. Since you never got a chance to back then." her voice softened and the look in her eyes was full of love, love for him, "Keigo, why do you have those wings?"
Keigo's hand went to his chest, his heart was beating faster and he felt overcome with emotion. How? How was she always so good at doing this? Fuyumi was an expert, at this point, at giving him exactly what he needed. Back when he was a child, when his mother had said these exact words to him, her tone was full of frustrated urgency, desperation and a little bit of despair. They were meant to silence him and get him to cave in and do as she wanted.
But Fuyumi's way of asking was completely different. Her words were wrapped in care, spoken with gentleness and presented to him with pride. A pride she'd felt in regards to him. She was giving him the opportunity to boast and be proud of all he'd done for himself and countless others with his wings. Her words were no condemnation but an invitation to celebrate himself. To puff out his chest and spread his wings like the bird he'd been named after.
She wanted to hear it from the source, from him, her husband. With all her attention on him, she wanted to know why he had his wings.
"You really know how to knock me off my feet every time." he lightly laughed, let out a breath and rested his hands on his hips, his wings spread out. "Okay, why do I have my wings? Let's see..." his wife was just about the only person that could actually make him feel slightly shy.
"Things definitely could've turned out differently for me. I could've inherited only my mother's quirk or I could've never been born at all considering the situation my parents were in. But the fact that I was born with my wings, tells me that I was meant to have them. Even though they were nothing more than an ironic symbol for me as a child. The bird who was never allowed to fly, forever locked away as longs as I stayed in that dark place. But now, they're the manifestation of the hope that carries me. The hope I've had since I was a child. To save people and be a light for them. Each feather is exactly where it's supposed to be, they're bright red so you'll never miss me when looking up. And the best thing my wings have done for me is flying me to you the night we met." he walked over to Fuyumi and took her hand.
"Now I get to fly my amazing wife wherever she wants to go." he kissed her hand, "I get to teach our baby girls to fly, and fall in love with the sky just like I did." he held her hand over his heart. "My wings gave me the freedom to live my life, and now I get to fly back home to you as fast as I can. So, why do I have these wings?" he stood in front of Fuyumi, who had tears in her eyes, and wrapped his arms around her waist and spread his wings. "Because I was meant to. Simple as that." he leaned in and kissed her. Fuyumi immediately wrapped her arms around his neck and held him as close as possible and deepened their already passionate kiss.
"With an answer like that, I'd say nothing can hold you down." she kept her forehead pressed against his.
"Thank you… for doing this." he felt an indescribable lightness, like some kind of burden had been lifted from his shoulders. "I love you, so much." he kissed her cheek.
Not quite ready to end their night just yet, Keigo kissed Fuyumi along her jaw and slowly mouthed kisses down her neck. Fuyumi shut her eyes and leaned her head back, savouring the feeling of his lips on her skin. She sighed when he kissed along her collarbone and dug her fingers through his hair.
Keigo picked her up and carried her back to their bed, connecting his lips with hers again. With Fuyumi on her back and Keigo leaning over her, he slowly broke the kiss.
"I guess we're not going to bed anytime soon." Fuyumi teased and traced over his lips with her finger. Her eyes shimmered with the same want he knew was reflected in his own.
"Not until..." he smirked and leaned in, his voice was low and breathy as he tenderly kissed her, "I've kissed you everywhere..." his hands slowly traced up her sides and up her arms, pinning them above her head. Fuyumi let out a shaky breath, "And hear how much you like it." he whispered into her ear.
Fuyumi turned her head to the side to try and hide the blush on her cheeks, but she knew it was useless and he'd already seen her. And at that moment he let out probably the sexiest chuckle she'd ever heard from him.
As much as Keigo was a complete sweetheart, it was times like these that reminded Fuyumi that her husband was also an absolute flirt, going out of his way countless times to make her blush. Either with his words or actions. But she wouldn't change a single thing about him. She loved being his wife and was proud to call him her husband.
The same could be said of Keigo, who'd never stopped appreciating how far he'd come from his early life in that broken and loveless home.
No longer an unwanted burden to the people who'd brought him into this world, or a secret tool meant to uphold the pillars of society. Keigo was not only the hero, Hawks, he was also a proud father and husband.
That's why with every kiss he left on Fuyumi, every laugh and smile he got from his girls, and every beautiful new memory he created with his family, he was grateful that he was born.
And more than anything, he was grateful that he'd been born with the bright red, powerful and versatile quirk that he had. Because all it took was a tingling in his wings, when he was a little older than his girls are now, for his life to change forever for the better.
And there you have it, I really wanted to have a moment like this where Hawks' wings are a topic of conversation. And as much as he wanted to help Harumi through her moment of doubt, he also needed to have a talk about his wings himself and how he sees them after all this time. That was kinda the idea behind this, hope you enjoyed.
Well that's it from me-
Until the next story:
