(She is studying in her room, the door is open, he walks in)
D - How is your studying going, my apprentice?
M - Master! You startled me.
D - Buried deep in your datapad I see. Excellent. What are you doing now?
M - I'm studying the Sith code. It is not what I expected, not entirely.
D - How so?
M - The first line says "Peace is a lie, there is only passion". Don't you think that it's a weak line?
D - What do you mean by weak?
M - Peace and passion aren't mutually exclusive. Yet, that line implies they are.
D - Peace is the opposite of passion. Why do you think otherwise?
M - One can be passionate about achieving peace, also one can be passionate during a time of peace.
D - True, but the peace that line refers to is not the peace you have in mind. It is about inner peace, about being calm and remaining calm at any time.
M - And passion? What does that refer to?
D - Passion is the state of continuous unease. This state is the base philosophy of our order. We must let our unease take root, in turn that allows us to be vigilant, mindful of our surroundings. It also helps us plan the future either for ourselves or for our order. Through passion we manage to make the force do our bidding.
M - I have trained my entire life to be calm and dispassionate. How can that change overnight?
D - It won't happen overnight, but it will happen eventually. It has to. The alternative is not favourable for you.
M - Death is the alternative?
D - Yes.
M - You mean execution or just the natural order of things?
D - I will kill you, that's what I mean.
M - I see⦠And here, I thought you liked me.
(She plays coy, smiling)
D - I do, that's why you are still alive.
(She laughs)
M - This is ridiculous! I can't be expected to embrace an ideology under the threat of death!
D - This is where you are mistaken. All Sith have to embrace this ideology under the threat of death. It was the same way for me.
M - So, if you didn't become Sith you would die?
D - Yes. I have killed many on my way to becoming Sith, many who sought to also become Sith but ultimately failed. Have no doubt, I will do the same for you, if that time comes.
M - Who will judge if I am worthy to be Sith? You?
D - Yes, but also you. You will know it when it is time apprentice, trust me.
M - Yes master.
(She bows her head slightly)
D - I know it is difficult, but you must remember, you chose this path. Now you must walk it.
(She nods in approval)
D - We will need to schedule some training sessions. I have never actually seen what you can do with a lightsaber.
M - Sure. Whenever you want.
D - Soon. For now, study the Sith code.
M - Yes master.
(He walks out of the room)
