p style="text-indent: .5in; margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 115%;"Ugh! Darion Baba wakes up in a sweat, his hands fingering a stone in his hand. "Dammit Sasha" he exclaimed knowing his sister had been in his room setting up another elaborate prank. Being a seer didn't give her any more chances not to act like a child. "Sasha! Stay out of my room and stop playing pranks'' Darion swung his body over dropping his legs to the floor. Standing up and performing the same set of stretches that he's been told to do since being accepted to the local quidditch team. After stretching Darion went over to a set up at the corner of his room, using a broom stick connected to 4 high tensile strings connected to the ceiling. "This is it ladies and gentlemen, the Tutshill Tornados and their star beater Darion Baba approach the field in the championship match". Darion balances himself on the 2x2 stick he got from the back of the Home Depot, bouncing back and forth, left and right. Picking up a beater bat that his dad gave him. The ceiling creaks and bellows as Darion practices on broom direction. "Pitch, Yaw, all directions" Darion whispers to himself as he leans back and forth, forward and back putting the tensile strength and flexibility of these cords to the test./p
p style="text-indent: .5in; margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 115%;"The sun slowly lights up the room, and Darion stops swinging the beaters bat not unlike a samurai practicing sword swings. Dismounting from the 2x2 board accidentally kicking a shelf full of books and funko figurines. Darions room being almost overtaken by the makeshift practice broom. His bed a steel frame pushed up against the the single paned windowed wall colored off white, standard for most of the project housing in Toledo. His bookshelf with 4 landings the top two filled with his favorite artists and writers Funko figurines, no-mages and wizards and witches. The Bottom two shelves stacked plus with books from the no-mage world and wizarding world. At the end of his twin bed there is a chest with clothes neatly folded by his mother the previous night, with both of his shoes cleaned and on either side of it. On the plywood door hangs a middle school graduation capgown for the 2022 graduates of Jefferson Junior High, still in its bag from the return from the dry cleaners. On the other side of the door Sasha Baba waiting, eye's clouded over with white as she predicts when her brother will come to the door. The space inbetween the door and floor snitch on Sasha as Darion walks to the door. His fathers wand hangs on the wall next to the door frame. Darion, seeing two small feet grabs the wand and points it at the door. "No! That's not fair. I don't even have a wand, and mom said no magic in the house" Sasha whines jumping away from the door. Darion laughs after putting the wand in his pocket. "Put it back or I'm telling mom" from behind the door "Also Yes" i'll take the candy" little feet running back down the hall. Darion carries the wand back to his bed, opening the chest he picks out a black shirt with a small Tutshill Tornado logo on the shoulder, blue jeans that hug his lower body, and his black shoes. He grabs the snickers bar that was on top of the out the door, he stops and runs back in and grabs the wand and shoves it back in his pocket, the very dark red square handle sticking out of his pocket./p
p style="text-indent: .5in; margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 115%;"Downstairs Eliana Baba sits on the couch with a cup of tea reading the Daily Prophet. She sits cross legged left over right, left sandal bouncing on and off of her heels. Hearing Darion moving around she looks up from her paper long burgundy-red and blonde dread-locks covering the left side of her face she whips her freshly wrapped locks out of her revealing her honey brown eyes. She stands up pulling down the legs of her high waisted summer shorts. "Sasha, stop pranking your brother and let him get dressed, come in here and get some cereal before the bus comes", folding the paper up and smudging a tea stain on her white blouse with yellow Asphodels printed on it. "Dammit" Eliana exclaims, setting her cup down and grabbing a bowl from the counter over the microwave. The pittering of feet come down the hallway, "I got you the black one with the white tiger on it, you should be more careful with your tea mommy." Sasha handing the folded t-shirt to Eliana."Thank you baby, now eat" finishing the pour of Fruity Pebbles into the small kid bowl with Dinosaurs printed on the inside and out. Sasha looks up smiling at her mother, their eyes match those honey browns. Sasha leans down to try and shovel the food into her mouth as fast as she can splashing flecks of milk on her criss-crossed goddess braids that top her head with a curly pink tipped mohawk. She slurps her milk down finishing her cereal in record time. Sasha stands up from her chair and bounces to the sink and drops the plastic bowl into the steel two sided sink. Sasha wraps her arms around her mother standing pouring a cup of coffee, Eliana turns around presenting a warm smile, revealing apple wedges between her lips. Eliana bites off half of the apple, taking the other half out putting it on the table. "How is my little ten year old, how many days until your birthday baby girl" squatting down meeting Sashas eyes. "Only Seven more days, you know that'' kissing Eliana on the cheek, "I know, just not as much as you baby girl." she looks away and looks back hiding a sadness. " Remember we're not gonna celebrate on your birthday this year, we're gonna celebrate, that weekend" Eliana reached to put her cup on the counter "I know we have to wait until you check comes in", faintly smiling but putting her head down as well hiding a similar sadness. "Ohh and Dari-" a snickers bar hits the table behind Sasha as Darion walks into the room, He has a light black and yellow jacket on and his backpack is over his right shoulder. "Darion is about to go to school and have a perfect day and he's going to come home to his mother saying congratulations Darion you're going to Livermorny this year" the sarcastic tone rising as the sentence lengthens."Baby we can't afford it, unless you get a full ride scholarship then i'll just have to teach you what i know. Unless you want to move to Africa, i'm sure your dad side of the family would love to put you up at Uagadou." Eliana puts her hands on his face then grabs the brush on the table next to them and brushes the top of his head forward towards his forehead. Darion looks down shamed."I'm due for a promotion, you might not get to do your first year but you'll get tested and you should go into your second year knowing more than any of the other kids and Livermorny" Eliana finishes brushing the sides of Darions head and kisses his brings his head up to look at her, his eyes dark and deep brown like his fathers were, his cheeks full. He straightens up his thin built body in order to match his mothers height. She stands at least several inches above him. Darion kisses his mother on the cheek "I know mom, I'm joking. I wouldn't want to leave my friends anyway. I heard witches are assholes" smiling, then getting a light punch on the arm. "Language!" Sasha jumps into Darions arms and hugs him tight. "One for the road little jumping bean" Darion picks her up a bit higher and brings her head close to his head. She pulls her head back, eyes clearing like the sky from cloudy back to those Honey Browns. "Sorry Darion the same cheetah again." Darion kisses Sasha on the cheek with a smile./p
p style="text-indent: .5in; margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 115%;"On the bus Darion chooses the seat next to his best friend Rico Santana. Rico lives a couple of blocks away. "Darion, do you have the Algebra homework. My - " Darion interrupts and pulls out a sheet of paper "yea, what was it this time Sasquatch or a Wendigo? Darion smiles and hands him the paper "man whatever, for your information it was some little blue demon thing, it had wings and horns." flailing his hands around in description of the creature. The animated Rico bounces in his seat, Darion quickly jumps over putting his hand over his pocket. "Darion, gracias amigo. I'll give it back before we get off the bus." Darion scoots closer against the wall of the bus. Darion lays his head against the window watching Toledo go by. The same three bumps after the first turn, faced pressed up against the glass seeing the asian lady sweeping her porch, always with the same improvised broom made of sticks and leaves. Always with the same thought, its twenty twenty-three just by a broom. The crips that sit at the gas station doing god knows what, formaned by the O-G who always seems to be sitting in the 80's style cadillac just watching the road, probably for cops. This is when the road starts to get bad this part of the road is the wildest. The city has been called by everybody including the school district and it seems like they keep getting worse, though the back of the bus loves it. Darion had hit his head at one point sitting back there. When it's over, everything goes back to normal the noise of 20 kids from various surrounding neighborhoods on the route to the school ebbing and flowing, every once in a while Ms. J yelling to sit down before she gets fired. Pulling into the school the rest of the students scramble to pack up their stuff and with one knee on the seat and one leg prepared to rush in front of as many people as possible, Darion and Rico stay seated knowing the drill and happily getting up walking out behind the last person. Stepping off the last step which always has fresh gum on it even though there is a sign at the front of the bus. Walking up to the district mandated newly rebuilt school which all the students who have been there at least 2 years call "The Prison". They call it that because they called the design modern as much as the inside matches that design label the outside looks like Toledo Corrections./p
p style="text-indent: .5in; margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 115%;"Darion lets Rico run off to home room so that he could finish homework from other classes, Darion stops at his locker before heading to the lunch room. "Mr. Baba are you going to get in line or sit here with your mouth open letting flies lay eggs" the larger than life voice of Mr Okoye the geography teacher directly behind Darion, startled out of his daze realizing that the line had moved and now two people were ahead of him. "Do you smell that?" Darion looked around curious as Mr Okoye ushers him into the back of the line. "What are you talking about Mr Baba? Breakfast today is breakfast pizza with orange juice, milk or apple juice." Mr Okoye reads directly from the pamphlet. "It smells like hot grass and dirt, i dont think its the breakfast pizza" Darion furls his brow sniffing the air. "Well, have a good breakfast Mr. Baba" Mr. Okoye turns and walks away with a swiftness so hastily he dropped his pamphlet. Mr. Okoye is a tall man, at least 6 '6. Mr Okoye gait is similar to a long legged beast, almost a gallop when he walks. His hair is short and neatly kept, besides his billy goat style beard. There is one other thing that always catches people off guard when they look at Mr. Okoye, his brown eyes are not just brown, they have specs of yellow like polka dots but almost random shape. If you weren't so intimidated by everything else there might be a pattern to them but no one has ever looked that closely. Darion looks around confused hoping to find the origin of the smell. Darion turns his head to see if he can somehow catch the scent like a dog and follow it but instead on the outside of the lunch room on the other side of the double paned glass separating the lunch room from the hallway his blood ran cold and his spine stood ridgid. There was a cheetah, like a wild cheetah walking the hallway heading towards the gymnasium. "The fuck" he exclaimed under his voice. He thought that this has to be a trick of the light, or somebody's doing magic in public./p
p style="text-indent: .5in; margin-bottom: 0in; line-height: 115%;"Darion leaves the line and the lunch room without making another sound. He hears the voice of a teacher but he doesn't mind enough to know who it is or what they are saying, he only says bathroom and keeps walking through the A hallway where he saw the cheetah only moments ago. He didn't see the cheetah anymore but that smell was still there, dry grass, heat, dirt. Even more than that, the feeling of dry warm wind filled with debris washing across his face. This had to be magic he thought, this felt like magic. What was that spell that his mom used to find that weed that he hid rev- riv-. Darion takes out his fathers wand after looking around to see if the teachers had followed him or were walking in the hallway. "Revelio" Pointing the wand down the hallway. After 5 seconds and about to cast the spell thinking that it hadnt worked a wispy trail leads around the corner, a trail that resembles a trail of sand flowing on a breeze. Following this trail he sees the haunches leading a swaying and flickering tail going into the varsity gym. Darion looks back into the hallway again just to make sure none of the teachers followed him out of the lunch room, then proceeds into the varsity gym. His worries are confirmed when he sees Mr Okoye standing in the gym leaning down talking to the same cheetah that was roaming in the hallways. He started to walk forward then he stopped realizing that there was somebody he hadn't seen there just a moment ago, like they had just appeared. It was an old woman already staring back at him. Her light brown eyes, reminiscent of his mother and sisters, her braided back silvery white hair that ended in a puff. She held out her hand and started to move closer, no it was Darion who was moving, his fear escalated realizing that this was a master witch that could use magic with no wand. "I didn't see anything" His movement halted. Looking at the hand of the older woman, He notices several rings with different animals that he couldn't recognize, the one that he did recognize was a lion. Her thin skin tightened around muscles still active as if they still do manual labor. Her outfit reminded him of those african outfits that his fathers family wore everywhere daishiki's, full of reds, blues, greens, oranges. It looked like it was moving with the wind in a Van Gogh painting. "Ohh my little Baba, it has been so long since i've seen you, you're so big now." She reaches out to touch his face. He flinches back but smells the scent coming from her wrist and realizes that the dry desert smell was her. "Are you ready for school Baba?"/p
