Two.
"I said no, Bell."
"C'mon, Em! Pleeeease. You're about to be out of here, anyway. One last party together."
"Exactly, it's the last one. Do you have any idea how wasted everyone will be? I want to be one of those people. I don't want to have to watch out for you all night."
Emmett's jaw was set. Normally I could convince him of almost anything, but I could tell that tonight he had made up his mind.
Tyler Crowley was throwing the last party before all the seniors left for college, and Emmett wasn't letting up on his resolve. He'd started to let me tag along to a few parties throughout the year, but after the last one where I ended up throwing up in a bush and Em and Edward had to carry me home and sneak me back into my room, those privileges had been revoked.
I looked to Edward, hoping he would back me up. Instead he raised his palms and looked away. "Don't bring me into this," he mumbled, pulling his phone out of his pocket and impatiently scrolling.
I looked back at Emmett and couldn't contain a childish stomp. Emmett chuckled but didn't give in.
"Hey, I'm not dealing with the Chief's wrath. I thought he was going to skin me last time," he said, eyes wide at the memory.
"But… I've covered for you for years! Ugh."
I could tell this wasn't going to get me anywhere. Emmett rarely said no to me, but this time, I knew there was no shaking him.
Indignantly, I turned on my heal and stomped to my room, slamming my door when I got there and dramatically flopping onto my bed.
I heard Emmett's engine start up as his car pulled out of the driveway and called Alice.
"No bueno," I grumbled.
"Damn, that sucks. I totally thought he was going to cave."
"I know, me too. He wants to get wasted and 'doesn't wanna have to watch me.' Like he's my fucking babysitter or something. Ugh!" I smooshed my face into the pillow with such force that I felt some eyelashes come loose. Everyone was going to this party. Even Alice and Emily who were dating juniors.
"Dude, why don't you just go? Tell your dad you're sleeping at my place."
It had never occurred to me. I was no angel, but Emmett was normally the one corrupting me. It certainly didn't go past my dad's notice, but I think he mostly trusted me because he knew Emmett would always take care of me. And I never went against Emmett.
"Emmett will be pissed."
"So? He'll get over. He's going to be wasted anyway, what's he gonna do? Drive you home?" She reasoned.
"You know Alice, I always knew you were smart."
"Ha!" She cackled. "Yeah, whatever bitch. Be at my place at 8. Mike will pick us up later."
The line went dead and I lay back on my pillows, staring at the ceiling. A slow smile crept across my face. Emmett was going to be so pissed.
