Chapter 4
Emmet ran up against a large tree and stopped to get his breath. After a couple of breaths and cooling down, he reached for his …. Oh no.
"My backpack." said Emmet aloud. He realized that he left it on the boat! Darn that piranha. Had it not scared him, he would have arrived where he was supposed to go in the first place. But then again, it DID stop at the rocks. Was that a sign of some sort? There was something else that troubled Emmet. The piranha itself. That species of fish could only be found in the south part of Rood Bridge Park, where the predators and hunters such as Wendigos, Minatours, and the giant insects resided. Their rivers were full of sharks, squids, jellyfish and even piranhas, like the giant one in the river.
Emmet stood up and tried not to let it bother him. Things in Rood Bridge Park haven't exactly been the same since Moss arrived. He was a legendary warlord who hurt a lot of good people in the region. Since his arrival, things have been terrible and people were getting sick back home. Shortly before Emmet left, Imani showed him the throne room, which was used as an infirmary. Children were getting sick and the families watched in horror as their babies coughed up blood.
Emmet tried to clear his mind away from the sad scene. He was on a mission to help his village, to save the lives of children, before it was too late! He puffed out his chest, breathed in deep and walked into the forest, not exactly knowing where he was going. But from afar, he was able to hear some slight music and he did see some lights flickering from the distance. If this was a village, he would ask for directions there and get an idea on where he was at the moment.
He walked onward, trying not to make noise since it was still night and some wild beasts were probably still asleep. Probably.
As Emmet continued walking for what seemed like an eternity, he stopped to rest at a nearby tree. He decided to sit down and rest a spell. Then he felt wet on his cheek. He looked up thinking it was rain or moisture from the leaves or even tree sap. His eyes widened in surprise when he saw a grinning Thylacoleo looking straight at him. Emmet slowly tried to crawl away from the tree, hoping the marsupial lion wouldn't pounce or anything like that. The Thylacoleo made purring sounds and then it made a growl under its breath. Emmet felt sweat all over his face, knowing that the tree climbing lion had its sights on himself. He did NOT want to be lion chow. Not now, not ever. Emmet ran away and the Thylacoleo pounced off the tree to chase him!
Emmet kept on running but the big cat was on its toes. He ran and ran and didn't stop running. The Thylacoleo roared angrily as it chased poor Emmet deep into the jungle. Eventually, Emmet found what appeared to be a cave and he ran to it, hoping to hide from the lion.
As he did, the Thylacoleo stopped in his tracks and then a large toothy mouth appeared, snapping its jaws on the cat. Emmet did not make a noise. He stood quiet and still, wherever he was. He didn't want to go outside to see what was up. Emmet looked around and realized he was in along, which explained why he was on the ground pretty much. Just then, a large centipede appeared and crawled towards where Emmet was.
The centipede felt a presence and its large antennas were sensing something up ahead of its trail. Emmet closed his eyes in fright as the centipede examined him with its large antennas. Emmet couldn't hold it any longer. He screamed and quickly crawled out of the log. He went out into the open and then he remembered why he was hiding in the first place. He slowly turned around to see a large crocodile-like creature staring at him. On its jaws were the remains of the Thylacoleo, with its face hanging from the crocodile's mouth and it looked like it was grinning at Emmet.
Poor Emmet peed his pants and turned around to run. The crocodile kept on snapping its jaws and it chased after Emmet. He ran and ran once again until he bumped into something hard and fuzzy. This furry wall then started to move and Emmet saw that it was a Mammoth. It turned around to see the crocodile and it did not look happy. The mammoth charged against the crocodile with its large tusks and they began to fight. The head of the Thylacoleo, which was still hanging on the jaws of the crocodile, flew into the air after it was struck in the violence and it landed on Emmet's feet. He screamed and ran away, not caring where he was going.
Emmet eventually tripped and then the floor moved. He was on top of a giant snake. He didn't move, but the snake was going up a tree. Emmet decided to drop and he realized he had to take off his pants. They were wet and heavy and he found himself running faster than before. He kept on running until he found a sphere on the ground. A Hunter's sphere. He picked it up and then he felt a pinch on his leg. He looked down to see that an angry looking bumblebee stung him. It was the size of a small Chihuahua and Emmet angrily hit the bee with his sphere.
He looked around to see if there was something else. Emmet had about enough surprises. He kept on walking.
For two days straight, Emmet encountered more dangerous beasts, eating one another, or fighting for territory. Emmet wasn't sure how, but he was surviving all that. And then, on the third day, he found a sanctuary. A small tent with bright colors. Emmet was so exhausted, he walked in and fell to sleep.
