Now that Maria made her choice and chose the love of her life Tony,she is strongly hoping that she will be able to save his life. Will she be able to get to Tony before it's too late to save his life? If there is anything that Maria would want, it's to save Tony's life. Nothing else except finding somewhere for her and Tony to flee. Even though she is very well aware that it might not happen,Maria was so very desperately wanting and hoping she could save Tony. Even though she knows that Anita was obviously not pleased,that didn't stop Maria from choosing Tony over the grieving selfish Anita. She just wanted to make the decision that made her happy.
She never planned on making the decision that wouldn't have been the choice that she wanted to make and that would've happened if she had chosen Anita. She wouldn't have made it for herself but she would've been making the decision because of her friend. Anita probably never would've had her make the decision that she (Maria) wanted to make,the decision that would've upset Maria. Anita wanted Maria's choice to be the one that made Anita happy. Anita wanted it to be what Bernardo would've wanted for Maria. But Maria thought that choosing Tony was the right choice for herself.
She was so happy that she didn't let Anita influence the decision. Choosing Tony was all because of Maria deciding to make her own decision and she was gonna listen to Anita. Because Anita did not become aware of the relationship between her and Tony until after the Rumble where Tony had ended Maria's older brother and the love of Anita's life Bernardo. Could that have been what influenced Anita to not like Tony in the first place? That was probably the reason. She wondered would Anita feel different about Tony if they had met prior to the night of the Rumble where Tony ended the love of Anita's life Bernardo? Would Anita have behaved differently?
