A/N: This fic doesn't take place in an American university. Due to this, I will add some extra info and my headcanons for the characters in my Korean-centered fic universe.
In this fic, Cole is full Korean and his Korean name is Chanwoo Baek. Jay is half Korean, two-sixth Irish, and one-sixth Spanish. His Korean name is Jaeyoung Kim.
Hyun and Chul are not my OCs; it's just to place a name to a background minor character that I can use consistently.

Extra Info:
Ssamjang: a type of sauce you dip bbq in. It consists of soy bean paste, red chili paste, etc. It tastes similar to soy bean paste stew due to the soy bean paste.
Sense, 3-6-9, Bunny Bunny, Baskin Robin 31: Korean drinking games.
Black Knight: When a male drinks in place of someone else, one reason is that the other person is at their drinking limit. The female equivalent is a black rose.

"Jay lost again! Take another penalty shot!"

The inside of the barbeque restaurant was noisy with university students socializing and drinking. It was the welcome party for mechanical engineering freshmen, many of who were given shot after shot by their upperclassmen. At one table the students were playing drinking games and Jay had just lost another game.

"Penalty shot! Penalty shot!" The students chanted. Jay took the shot of soju and drank it in one go. Everyone around him cheered, one student patting him on the back.

"That's your third shot in a row, you think you can handle it?" One student asked. Jay nodded his head, cheeks red from the shots and other alcoholic drinks from earlier. He didn't want to be seen as some loser in his department and impress everyone. He was feeling tipsy but not yet drunk.

"I'll be fine!" Jay insisted. "Let's keep playing!"

Jay chose 'sense' to play next. Students met each other's eyes, not wanting to stand up at the same time as someone else. An upperclassman got up and yelled 'One!', now safe from the penalty shot. A confident freshman stood up next, yelling 'Two!' The game continued, and soon half the table stood up. Jay looked around the table and thought he could stand up next.

"Eight!"

"Eight!"

"Jay and Min lost! both of you have to take a penalty shot." An upperclassman said. He poured a shot of soju for Jay and the other freshman. They both took a shot with ease.

"Damn Jay, you're pretty tough. Let me pour you another one." Another male upperclassman poured another shot into Jay's glass.

"Hey, don't push him too hard, Chul. We don't need anyone throwing up tonight." A senior girl said. The group of upperclassmen laughed her off, saying it'll be fine. Before they could say anything else, the door to the restaurant opened. An upperclassman with hair that almost reached his shoulders and a large build under his loose black hoodie entered to join the party.

"Hey Cole!" An upperclassman at Jay's table shouted. "I haven't seen you in a while!"

"Cole! Glad you could make it, even though you're in kinesiology." Another upperclassman said.

Cole grinned at the second upperclassman that greeted him and walked over to the table, giving him a half-hug in greeting.

"Damn dude, your hair grew so fast. Weren't you just released from the military?" The upperclassman asked.

Cole shrugged as he sat in between his friend and Jay, stretching out his arms out and around the both of them. He was excited to be back with his friends from the engineering department and vice versa. Even though he was in the kinesiology department, his friends invited him to the freshman welcome party to see them as soon as possible.

"Yeah, but you know my hair grows pretty fast." Cole looked to his left and saw the brown-haired freshman with a flushed face. What Cole didn't see before was Jay staring at him. Jay couldn't help but notice how handsome Cole was and he could feel Cole's muscles pressing on his arm. Some of the girls couldn't help but stare at Cole as well. Jay had to admit he was a little jealous.

"Who's the fresh meat?" Cole asked.

"That's Jay one of the freshmen. He keeps losing the drinking games, but he's taking the shots like it's nothing."

"Oh yeah? How many did he take?" Cole asked.

An underclassman handed Cole a plate with chopsticks and placed the pork belly from the grill in the center of their table to the plate. Cole quickly smiled and thanked her, taking his chopsticks to eat the hot meat. He started putting them into a lettuce leaf he picked up from the basket with some ssamjang, loving the savory flavor.

"He just took his fourth shot before you came in. Poor guy keeps losing the drinking games." Hyun laughed.

Cole nodded his head as he chewed the pork belly, impressed by Jay's tolerance. The younger man was clearly in drunk territory, but no signs of going blackout drunk. His red face had even redder freckles and somehow, there was some ssamjang on the right corner of his lip despite drinking multiple times. Jay's dark blue eyes clearly show attempts to stay as sober as possible, the lights making them look like they were sparkling.

When Jay turned his face to look at Hyun, he was met face-to-face with Cole, who was staring into his eyes. If he hadn't been red in the face with alcohol, he definitely would have been now. After a second of staring, Jay quickly said anything to make the situation less awkward.

"Why're you staring at me?" Jay asked.

Cole looked at Jay's eyes for a few more seconds before realizing Jay had said something.

"Huh? Oh, I was wondering if you were wearing contacts. I never seen anyone with blue eyes like that." Cole said. "It looks nice."

Jay sighed, having heard that type of curiosity his entire life. He was mixed, so he ended up with brown hair and blue eyes versus black hair and eyes. He used to like the attention he got for his eyes when he was younger, but that changed later in life.

"I don't wear contacts," Jay answered. "Do I look like one of those idols with the creepy stare because their contacts are pointing the wrong way?"

Cole laughed at Jay's response, finding the younger man oddly endearing with his snarky tone.

"No, you don't. You look a lot better than them."

Jay could feel his face getting hotter, hoping that he doesn't look redder than before. He quickly took another shot from his shot glass, an upperclassman having filled it during the conversation. Cole couldn't help but chuckle, amused by Jay's behavior.

"Damn, Jay! You should slow down a little." Hyun said.

"He'll be fine." Chul insisted. He poured another shot into Jay's glass, wanting to see the freshmen get shitfaced. Cole had heard about Chul and his suspicious actions from previous years. He had also noticed Chul had been eyeing Jay the entire time he had been at the restaurant.

"Are you okay?" Cole asked Jay. "You're still a freshman."

That ticked Jay off. He could handle his alcohol just fine! He had drunk alcohol before and that was no problem. Taking shots isn't a big deal since they're a lot smaller than the drinks he had with some of his friends.

"I'm fine, don't be so nosy." Jay said, slurring his words. Cole was a little taken aback by Jay's tone and raised his hands to say 'If you say so.'

"Let's play another game!" Hyun said. Jay picked '3-6-9' to play. Everyone went in a circle, saying the numbers and clapping when there was. a 3, 6, or 9 in the number they have. It was going on for a while, until…

"Thirty!"

"Jay lost again! Penalty shot!"

Jay grabbed his glass and took a shot as everyone cheered him on. Cole and Hyun looked a little concerned as Jay finished his shot, now clearly looking drunk.

Jay chose another game, having lost again. He managed to not lose at 'bunny bunny' but lost 'Baskin Robin 31'. Chul patted his back as he waited for Jay to take his glass to take another shot.

Jay tried to grab his glass but missed, his head feeling heavy and his vision getting a little hazy. Before he could try to grab for his glass, Cole quickly took it and downed it in one swift go. This pissed Jay off. He didn't need help from anyone to drink for him and he certainly didn't want it to be this upperclassman from another department.

"I don't need you to be my black knight." Jay said. "I'm a guy, I can handle it."

"You can't even grab your glass," Cole said. "I'll be drinking for you until you're sober again."

"Cole's so cool." An underclassman whispered to another. The other nodded in agreement.

Jay was getting annoyed by Cole and his presence. He didn't need someone to be his black knight, and the underclassmen being wooed by Cole only made Jay more irritated by him.

Cole was good-looking, it felt unfair. Clear skin, visible jawline, and a fit body. Those weren't even the only things about Cole that made him attractive. Meanwhile, Jay himself had freckles on his face and shoulders, a softer jawline, and he was nowhere near as fit as Cole.

Jay wanted to look impressive in front of his peers, but he was being outshined by that stupid hunk of a man. It wasn't any better that he decided to sit next to Jay. He needed to sober himself up a little before he starts running his mouth and regret saying something.

Jay stood up, a little unsteady from the effects of the soju. Stumbling away from the table, he beelined for the restroom the best he could.

"I think the poor freshman hit his limit."

"He held out pretty good." Hyun said, watching Jay rush to the restroom.

Unbeknownst to Jay, Cole was watching him, concerned about his drunken state. He decided to get up to help Jay before anyone else could.

In the restroom, Jay fumbled to turn on the water at the sink only to realize it was a motion-detecting sink. He splashed some water on his face, trying to get sober. The drunken feeling was still heavy in his head.

Jay slapped his face a few times before deciding to return back to his table, accepting that he has gotten himself very drunk and would probably end up being the butt of the jokes if he keeps losing and drinking.

Jay took a few steps before stepping on a particularly slippery spot on the floor. He braced himself for impact with the floor but was caught by someone before he could. His arms were held by strong hands, and Jay's hands were braced against something firm.

"Whoa! You okay?"

Jay looked up and was once again face-to-face with Cole. His dark eyes contrasted with his fair skin. His face looked worried, but even then it looked attractive. Jay would've stared at Cole's face longer but realized where his hands were.

Jay immediately pulled away from Cole and his pecs, lost his balance, and was now falling backward. Cole acted fast and grabbed Jay's arm and pulled him close to his body, using his other hand to hold Jay close to him. They both stood still for what felt like hours.

Jay could feel every muscle on Cole's torso, strong and stupidly dependable. Jay was hot from the amount of alcohol running through his veins, but he strangely didn't mind the heat from Cole's body. Cole could feel Jay's heartbeat going fast, he assumed Jay's fast heartbeat was from the sudden adrenaline rush from almost falling twice.

Both men had the unconscious desire to do something they might regret, but before either of them could act upon it, Cole leaned his face next to Jay's.

"You need to go home." Cole softly said in Jay's ear.

A shiver went up Jay's spine. He felt Cole's lips graze his ear, his husky voice making Jay's stomach flutter. His drunken mind cried at him to just turn his head and meet Cole's lips with his own, to throw all reason out the window and chase after something he unconsciously desires. Just one head turn and he could have his first kiss taken away.

However, the tiny sober voice in his head screamed louder.

"I'm fine. Stop hovering over me like I'm a baby." Jay tried to escape from Cole's arms, but Cole wouldn't let him. Oh God, as much as Jay wanted to get out of Cole's embrace, his body screamed to stay. Embarrassingly, Jay felt himself getting a boner because of the meathead that wouldn't let him go. He tried his best to distance his legs from Cole, not wanting Jay Jr. to be noticed.

"You're drunk, idiot." Cole flicked Jay's forehead. Jay let out a small cry of pain and rubbed his forehead. He tried to hit Cole's shoulder but missed and brushed against his arm instead.

"I'm taking you home. No buts."

"I can still drink." Jay insisted, his words more slurred than minutes ago. He used more of his strength and released himself from Cole's grasp. He tried to leave the bathroom, but could only take two steps before he was swept off his feet and thrown over Cole's shoulder like he was a bag of rice.

"Let me go, you stupid dirt brain!" Jay shouted. He punched at Cole's back to no avail and continued protesting, trying to get back on the ground. He was kicking his legs as well, trying to get Cole to let him go. He really didn't need an upperclassman to feel his erection, especially at a party.

"Stop squirming, motormouth!" Cole headed for the door, determined to get the drunk freshman on his shoulder back home. He was starting to regret helping Jay, but he didn't want to back out now. Even with Jay being annoying, Cole felt a strange urge to make sure he stays out of trouble.

The two reentered the restaurant and everyone turned their head upon hearing the commotion. Jay covered his face, feeling embarrassed. Now he'll definitely be the butt of the jokes when class starts.

"I'm taking Jay home," Cole said. "He's too drunk right now and I don't think he'll sober up anytime soon."

Hyun stood up and walked over to Cole after seeing his freshman on Cole's shoulder.

"Wait, Chanwoo, I can do that," Hyun said. "I don't want you missing out on the fun."

"It's okay, I can come to another one."

"But Jay's my freshman; it should be my responsibility to look after him."

Cole waved his hand at Hyun, arguing that it was okay and that he was willing to take Jay back home. Knowing how stubborn Cole can be, Hyun let it go and waved goodbye, saying he'll buy Cole drinks the next time they go out.
