Margot hated giving second chances to people who hurt her.

Margot wondered if one good meal was enough compensation for pretending to be Devi's friend. Her dad was in front of her. Fixing his hair while they waited for Devi's mom to open the door. She did want her dad to be happy, maybe that was fair and equitable compensation for the labor of putting up with Devi. Devi was a lot and not in a good way

The dinner went great at first, she enjoyed arguing with Devi. She was witty and unpredictable. She loathed to admit it but Devi was as cute as she was awkward. They had made genuine progress for the night but it turned into one of the weirdest even that she had ever been to. It didn't help that her ex-boyfriend showed up too. What was with Ben and Devi? They had an unhealthy obsession with each other and she was glad she was done with them.

Margot thought she didn't have to deal with Devi ever again, but they started texting each other. She didn't know who started it but she succumbed to texting her a lot. It had started out with memes about being dumbed and sisterhood but it morphed into actually communicating about their days and school gossip.

They didn't interact in school though, She felt too awkward to do it after their blowout fight to sit down and talk the way they did over text. They both froze in real life and just kept things cordial. She had expected things to peter out after graduation but it didn't. They talked daily.

Marogt was helping her dad with some paperwork when Devi texted her.

Hey, Do you want to hang out Irl?

Huh, She hadn't expected that at all. She did want to meet her.

Yup! This Friday?

They planned to meet at a coffee shop near their school. Margot was nervous, She was always the cool and collected one but this inconsequential meeting had her sweating it. They were friends, she had nothing to be worried about at all, yet she was.

Devi was waiting for her outside the coffee shop. Was it her new skincare regime or did Devi always glow? She was wearing a Purple dress with butterflies on it. She looked gorgeous as usually did.

"Hey, Margot!" She beamed at her. Margot gave her a short shy wave in return. Devi hugged her, It was a short and very appropriate hug which had a very inappropriate effect on her heart. She was frozen for a moment there and Devi had noticed it.

"Oh shit! Margot, I am sorry" Devi whispered.

"No, it is fine. I was just caught off guard." Margot, Which was technically not a lie, she had been caught off guard by how much she liked it. It had become very obvious to her that she had a massive crush on Devi.

Devi mostly talked about Princeton, The girl had a one-track mind most of the time but she didn't seem to mind. she didn't know how Devi could go from talking about chemistry to fashion choices in Real Housewives in one single sentence. She just wanted to know how her Devi worked.

Devi did apologize for hogging the conversation when Margot was driving her home, Devi's car was at the Mechanic's and she had offered to drop her off as it wasn't too far off from her home. Devi was quiet and nervous. All she wanted to do was hug.

" I did have fun talking to you Devi, I honestly don't mind." Margot comforted her. " It can be a bad habit but you are interesting and funny. I didn't mind it at all." Devi gave her a beautiful radiant smile.

"Thank you," she whispered. " I will try to do better."

Margot did brood the whole drive home. She had known she was into women since middle school so it wasn't a shock exactly that she was crushing madly on a cute nerd but it was a mistake. Devi had highly public relationships with two boys in high school, She had been the most boy-crazy teenager in their year however that didn't mean she didn't like girls. Nope, She was not going to do that to herself, Devi probably only liked boys and this was going to end badly for her.

That however didn't stop Margot from initiating their next hangout just a few days later. Devi had just got her car back and she was itching to drive around town. They drove around the town like idiots in the worst traffic that LA had to offer but somehow it was fun.

Devi made a conscious effort to center the conversation around Margot. The only thing that was better than listening to Devi talk? Having Devi focus all of her attention on you. It gave her goosebumps. They were hanging out at a quiet spot with a great view of the city.

" As you can see, Miss Ramos, I can go a whole day without the world vomiting all over your cute outfit."

Margot chuckled. " I wouldn't mind you word vomiting over my cute outfit, ba-bestie"

" That was not the kink that I expected you to have." Devi joked. Wait, What kinks did she expect her to have? That was a joke, she was not going to read too much into it.

" I was not joking," she whispered

"About the vomit?" Devi asked. Margot glared at her. Devi flashed her a faux innocent smile.

Devi looked at her " I don't want to be a selfish friend, she said, I have been a selfish dickhead to a lot of people in High school. I am trying to do better. I think keeping my thoughts to myself is part of it." She whispered.

" I enjoy your thoughts," she murmured.

They fell back into an awkward silence till she dropped her off.

They kept meeting each other, the frequency increased as the month wore on. They almost met daily. They spent all their free time together and Margot, well Margot was fucked. She had become that sapphic stereotype of crushing delusionally on a straight girl. Margot was on a collision course with heartbreak and she was hitting the gas instead of taking a break.

She learned other aspects of Devi. Her intense almost terrifying focus on anything she put her mind to really. Spending a whole week holed up in her home learning to code because of a comment Ben made? Perfectly normal for Devi.

She had even picked up the signs of Devi's mind shifting into gear, the subtle furrowing of the brow. The slight tilt of her head when she considered the problem she had to solve. It was the same woman just subtly different instead of jumping through her array of different interests and thoughts she stayed glued on one single thing. Margot felt very guilty for finding it incredibly hot and not just platonically admiring her/ being worried about her.

Devi was extremely excited about Princeton, It was all she talked about. She talked about all the classes she was going to take, the clubs she could join, and the cool people she couldn't wait to meet. Margot thought she had adequate self-esteem but she did feel insecure that time and distance would test the foundations of their fragile friendship.

This thought gave her courage, The courage to confess her feelings. If this friendship was not going to last. Might as well confess her feelings. She was helping Devi pack for Princeton. It was literally her last chance to ask her out.

Devi seemed happy, She was humming to herself while she packed. She didn't want to ruin the mood by dropping her puppy-love confession on her. They were packing up pictures when Margot saw a framed picture of Devi with her real best friends while showing off a pride flag.

"Last year's pride?" She asked, slightly nervous.

"Yes, Elionr and I went to support Fab." She answered

" I am queer," Margot whispered.

"Oh," Devi responded awkwardly placing the picture in the stack. This was not going well at all.

"Don't worry, I am not one of those girls who assume that every lesbian is secretly in love with me." She boasted.

Margot tried to hide her heart breaking into pieces but Devi noticed.

"Wait, Do you like me?" She asked

"Yes," Margot whispered.

Devi was freaking out, she turned away from her and was murmuring something to herself them she turned around and kissed her. It was an awkward, hesitant kiss that caught her by surprise.

Devi pulled from her for a second, Devi was smiling. " I like you too."

She then tilted her head and furrowed her brows. " That was a terrible first kiss, please let me fix that" She whispered.

Margot would always give Devi a second chance.
