Chapter 8: Hula Dancing
"Last time on Totally Epic: Hawaiian Style, we went to the beach and the teams made sand castles. Kevin decided to play dirty, and convinced Caden to sabotage his team's castle in order to impress Vivian. Of course Team Plumeria voted Caden off, but he didn't leave unhappy, when Vivian kissed him. What will they do next? Who'll leave next? And what will Kevin do now? Find out now, Totally Epic: Hawaiian Style." Monica announced.
The next morning, Vivian told Lucky and Johnny what Kevin had done.
"Oh my gosh." said Lucky.
"I can't believe it. It's worse than I thought." Johnny replied.
"I know. That Kevin's nothin' but trouble." Vivian told.
"I say we work together to get him eliminated." Lucky suggested.
"I'm game." agreed Vivian.
"Well we can figure out a plan during breakfast, let's go." told Johnny.
As everyone at breakfast in the mess hall, Monica came in.
"Attention, everyone." she called.
Everyone looked at her.
"There's now eight of you left, which means the teams are now officially merged."
Everyone chattered excitedly.
"So now we're merged. Awesome." said Mia.
"We're on our own now." replied Kevin.
"Which means now I don't have to play by any "team rules". And the girls left here better stay out of my way."
"This is awesome!" cheered Setsuna. "I've made it to the merge. Perhaps I can win this thing."
"It's an honor to make it to the merge." Johnny told.
"I didn't think I'd get to the merge. But it definitely feels good." said Lucky.
"So I'm in the final rounds. Cool." replied Kahlin.
"I knew I could make to the finals." Vivian informed.
"It's a shame that Caden's not here though."
"Being in the merge is really exciting." Edu said.
"It could be anyone's competition now."
"When you finish breakfast meet me down by the beach for today's challenge." Monica told.
Then she left.
"I wonder what we're gonna do now?" asked Setsuna.
"Hopefully it's something fun." said Edu.
"It's not gonna be fun." Kevin piped up.
Everyone looked at him.
"We're in the final rounds, which means we're all enemies now."
He then finished his breakfast, and then left the mess hall.
"Well he certainly a ball of sunshine." replied Mia sarcastically.
"Be wary around Kevin." warned Lucky.
"Yeah, he's a real jerk. Especially to girls." added Vivian.
Setsuna and Mia looked at each other concerned.
Once everyone was done, they went to the beach. They saw a makeshift stage set up, but they didn't see anyone around.
"Where's Monica?" asked Johnny.
"And Hailey?" added Mia.
"Or Charlotte?" wondered Edu.
Suddenly, Pepper came out from the curtains on stage, and squeaked.
"What the?" questioned Kevin.
From the stage Monica, Hailey, and Charlotte came on stage wearing hula outfits.
"All right everyone, this is today's challenge." Monica told.
"We're gonna have a fashion show?" Vivian questioned.
"Gross." muttered Kevin.
"No. You'll be hula dancing." Hailey corrected.
"This challenge will be judged by your outfit, and your performance. The performance that wows us the most will win, the one that doesn't will be automatically eliminated." informed Monica.
That surprised everyone.
"You have all day to prepare and you'll show us your stuff tonight right here on stage."
They got off the stage, and led them back to the set and to a trailer.
"In here are the costumes, and remember pick something vibrant and that'll make you stand out. And when you finish you can look up hula techniques with these pamphlets." Monica told.
Charlotte had them in her hands. Monica and Hailey left, while Charlotte lagged behind to pass them out.
"Congratulations on making it to the merge everyone." she told.
The other teens thanked her and smiled, while Kevin just nodded. And then she left them.
"Well let's get this started." declared Setsuna.
They went into the trailer, to pick out their costumes. Kevin just picked out a simple grass skirt, and left.
"It's bad enough I have to wear a skirt. But I have to dance too? What is this ballet lessons?" he complained.
The others picked out more elaborate costumes. Setsuna picked out a green tube top, a matching skirt, grass anklets, and a yellow flower lei. Lucky found a pink tube top, pink shorts, a grass skirt, and a pink lei, flower crown, and anklets.
Mia got a blue top and a grass skirt. Johnny picked out a grass skirt and some anklets. Kahlin's outfit was a grass skirt, and a blue lei. Vivian chose an outfit consisted of a brown top, grass skirt, a leaf crown, and a matching lei.
And Edu got a grass skirt and a leaf crown.
After everyone got their clothes, they got to work.
"Let's see, keep your knees bent, and gently sway your hips." read Setsuna.
She then started to copy the steps. As she did, she didn't notice that Edu was watching her.
"Gee, Setsuna looks pretty good when she's dancing." he said.
He slowly made his way up to her.
"Uh, Setsuna?" he asked.
Setsuna jumped a little, and turned around.
"Oh, Edu. You startled me."
"Sorry, didn't mean too."
"It's okay. What's up?"
Edu rubbed the back of his neck.
"I just wanted to say, it was fun being on the same team as you."
Setsuna smiled at him.
"It was fun for me too. But that doesn't mean we can't be friendly competitors." she told him.
"That's great to hear."
The two stood there quiet for a moment, and then Edu spoke.
"Well I better get back to the challenge, bye."
And Edu left.
"Okay, Edu is both cute and sweet. He's definitely a keeper." Sestuna told.
"Oh, and Edu." she called. Edu turned back and looked at her.
"I look forward to seeing your performance."
And she gave him a wink. Edu smiled, and left. The other members continued to practice their dancing. The others weren't having too much trouble, although Kevin was having some difficulties.
"Stupid dancing. It's a girl thing anyway." he grumbled.
After a little while, he decided to spy on the other contestants. Johnny obviously had the dance down. Lucky, Edu, Vivian, and Setsuna were getting the hang of it. Mia and Kahlin though were still trying to get the hang of it.
"Hmm." Kevin whispered.
"Maybe it's time to start pulling some more dirty tricks." Kevin thought.
"Why doesn't this look right?" asked Mia. She was getting a little frustrated. As she kept trying to do the steps, Kevin came up behind her.
"Having issues?" he asked.
Mia turned around, and was surprised to see him.
"Hey, you're Kevin right?"
"Yep."
"Well...what do you want?"
"Just checking out the competition. Having trouble?"
"No, I'm just not ready yet."
"Hey, I was just wondering."
Then he went off with a sly grin on his face. After that he went to Kahlin, and saw that he was also having some difficulties with the dance.
"I think I know how to eliminate the weakest links." he told himself.
That night, all the contestants were down at the beach on the stage. Hailey and Charlotte were sitting in front of it, and Monica was on stage. They all had a black marker and a small dry erase board.
"All right, it's now time to see what our contestants have got. First up we have Sestuna." she announced.
Hailey pressed a button on a remote that made applause. Monica got off the stage, and joined the two in the audience, while Setsuna came out on stage in her costume, ready to start dancing.
Monica gave Charlotte a nod, and she started the music. As Hawaiian music began playing, Setsuna danced. She looked very graceful, and did the steps as best she could. When she finished, the applause began again.
The three then wrote down a number on their board.
"Now for the judging. I give you a 9." Monica told.
Hailey gave her an 8, and Charlotte gave her a 9. Setstuna smiled at her results, and left the stage.
"Next we have Johnny."
Johnny then stepped onto the stage.
"I bet Johnny's gonna win this." Kahlin told the audience. "He's probably been hula dancing since he was a baby."
"I know the others expect me to win. But I'm going to play fair." Johnny informed.
When the music started, Johnny started dancing. But he purposely slipped up, and tripped. Once the music stopped, the three made their decisions. Monica gave him an 8, Hailey wrote down a 7, and Charlotte gave it a 6.
"Good effort, Johnny. And let's hear it for Vivian." Vivian appeared, and began her dance.
While her outfit was good, and so was her dancing, the steps weren't exactly right. She got a 7, 6, and an 8.
"Next up is Kahlin."
He danced his hula dance, and the three judged him. They gave him a 6, 7, and 5.
"Thank you Kahlin. Up next, Lucky."
Lucky danced as best as she could, and managed to score a 8, 9, and another 9.
"I knew I could do well in this challenge. I love performing." Lucky told.
"Let's see what you got Edu."
Edu danced his hula and got a 9, 8, and another 8.
"Come on out, Kevin."
Kevin danced his dance, but it's clear he didn't want to do it. Monica gave him a 5, Hailey gave him a 4, and Charlotte's number was 3.
"And last but not least, Mia."
Little did the three judges know, Kevin poured something onto the stage. Mia got on stage, and the music started. She started out good, but then she slipped up, and fell. She got up and tried to continue, but she kept slipping and falling.
Mia began to get upset, and started swearing in Spanish.
"I told you guys that I had to start pulling tricks." Kevin said to the camera.
He then held up a bottle of baby oil.
By the time the music ended, Mia had fallen and tripped several times, and was now really angry. And the 3, 2, and 1 she got didn't help, and she ended up shouted in Spanish. That night, everyone sat at the elimination alter.
"All right everyone, you did you best. But it's time to announce the winner." Monica announced.
Everyone waited and listened.
"The winner of the hula challenge is...Lucky. For her good dancing and outfit."
"Yes!" Lucky cheered happily.
Some of the other congratulated her, and the Monica continued.
"And the person going home is..."
Mia, Kevin, and Kahlin looked at each other.
"...Mia."
"Que?" Mia asked.
"Sorry, Mia. You gotta go now." Charlotte told her.
Mia got up grumbling in Spanish and left.
"And there's another episode of Totally Epic: Hawaiian Style. What'll happen now that we're in the merge, and who'll leave next? Find out next time on Totally Epic: Hawaiian Style." Monica announced.
